If you must compare covid to the influenza then draw your comparison to the 1918-19 influenza pandemic that killed 50,000,000 people. Then, as now, the pathogen was new and humanity had - no/zero/nada - immunity. It spread as fast as it could and due to lack of knowledge it was given ample pathways to spread unchecked all over the planet. Not 1/2 million dead as we see with our annual flu events......  50 million dead. Some countries lost 20% of their population.

As bad as our annual flu season is it is relatively contained. There is always some residual herd immunity to slow its spread. Science can now predict where mutations are headed and proactively formulate vaccines. Those vaccines are made in advance in massive volumes and also impede the spread of the flu. When we do see excessive flu deaths it is because a new strain sneaks into the mix. Yes, absolutely the flu season delivers death en masse even when all goes well. That alone should impart a greater understanding and respect for how ugly these pathogens can be.

The world is trying to keep the lid on this pressure cooker. We have been given some very prudent guidelines on how we can greatly help this endeavor individually. Yessiree the actions being taken are having consequences that resonate through all sectors of living. But look at places that delayed such actions. Look at Italy. Look at Iran. The planet houses a whole lot more people than it did in 1918. If covid really runs amok or worse, mutates into an even uglier critter we will have mountains of dead.

If anything I believe the "manufactured crisis" falls squarely on the shoulders of China, who did not even tell the rest of the world there was a crisis for a month after they knew about it.
Other suspicious behavior is them throwing US reporters out of the country so that we do not know what is going on over there.
China and a number of other countries have never been our friend and only acted friendly so they could empty our pockets.
Please consider the following articles.

Tucker: Why would America's media take China's side amid coronavirus pandemic?

The article also claimed that China could impose pharmaceutical export controls which would plunge America into "the mighty sea of coronavirus."

The real, genuine demon here is China who intentionally squandered the opportunity to contain this virus that apparently came to us as a consequence of their medieval public health policies. That was way beyond irresponsible.

So, what of those people who have on hand oxygen tanks and oxygen making machines? No face masks

that covers nose and mouth

Completely useless? , thanks...

Um...... well those are systems that deliver low flow oxygen and they’re not designed to be ‘air’ tight unless expected to deliver 100% oxygen such as ‘non-rebreathing’ masks. They should not be confused with isolation masks.

I agree that it's the testing that is making the numbers jump. Those numbers wouldn't be jumping if the numbers weren't already high, but hidden too. That we know of, the first case got into the US on 1/20/2020. Those confirmations will keep going up for a bit longer, but because of everything being locked down, the numbers should slow down.

Agree 100%.  Chinese scientists who predicted what was about to happen with this virus were chastised by the government or disappeared altogether.

Absolutely beyond irresponsible. Different situations, but we could have been doing better, as well. I am not making a direct comparison between the US and China but we have dropped the ball some here, too.

Not confused on that. Are they even useless for common cold or flu?

Guess maybe they just help a little bit with breathing comfort...oh well

Those portable systems are for people with COPD.

Well I guess Italy, France, Germany, and Spain are irresponsible also.

And some still haven’t and/or refuse to. Florida beaches still wide open to “spring breakers” although practicing the CDC request to keep a “safe distance”. Pinnellas? County - same idiots where counting votes is a challenge. Wonder if there any better at counting the infected?Let us now count  - 1, 2 ,6 ,9 , 3 , 4 ,11 , 5 etc etc. And this a state with one of the oldest populations. Party on -
