What Was Your Best Score Ever!

Ahh nothing like stalking wild gear in the woods. We're talking gear not deer.

How about it, what was your best score. $50 Khorns at a church potluck dinner, Fisher tube receiver from roadside trash, $25 Carver amp on Ebay. Gear only, not the Rembrandt you snagged for $3 bucks at a yard sale. Well, how about it!

Remember Lynn: Only audio-related scores. Your wife doesn't count (unless she screams at you...)

'88 Oak Khorns - $1250

'78 La Scala - $300

'86 Pro La Scala Top Section - $75

DBX BX-1 110 lb Reference Amplifier $5000 new - $120 (Needed fuses replaced) Cost me more to have it boxed and shipped from CA.

DBX 14/10 Computer Equalizer mint like new in box ($1300 new) - $175

These are just a few of the lucky finds, not as good as the Khorns for $50 but decent enough I think.

In order:

1. Sold walnut-oiled Cornwall 1s, with their B2 crossovers, after 15 years, for twice what I paid, $1K: bought walnut-oiled 89 Klipsch corner Khorns, with AK2 crossovers, for $1K

2. Friend gave me vintage solid-state harmon/kardon 330B receiver ($5)

3. Won the ill-fated precursor to Klipschs modern set of reference sub-woofer, the LF10, with its single active 10 driver, two passive ones and a 500-watt BASH amplifier, on uBid by joining low bid ($500)

4. Custom Bottlehead 2A3 tube Paramour monoblocks, factory-assembled, assembled for $550

5. Thirty-pound paving stone on top of rack of tennis balls for vibration isolation platform ($30) (see: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/tweaks/)

Now that was a score, Bill!

Not really a score, as I moved them to pay some bills on the house renovations, but...

1962 decorator Khorns, circa 1963 Cornwall, McIntosh MC40 mono amp - $200

1972 commercial VOTTs - $200

4 Mcintosh MC30s - $100 less $20 for Sal Army blue tag

All great deals, but still doesn't make up for sporadic contract work so far this year. Steady paychecks always are better than great deals6.gif
