  1. A LATE EASTER CHEER TO ALL!

  2. Greetings all, I figured I would give you a quick review of my Emotiva Fusion 8100. First a little history- I am a brand new Emotiva customer, but I have been watching them from a distance for a few months, reading all kinds of reviews, forum posts, etc. I currently have a hook-up to buy Denon and Marantz stuff through a dealer buddy of mine. I was giving some serious thought to the Marantz 7008 or the Denon 4520ci (the last of the Japan built receivers). Unfortunately I was turned off to the Denon mainly due to the reviews not being as favorable as the Marantz. Instead of getting a new receiver, I decided to go the cheap route and just add a new separate amp to my Yamaha RX-V2500. I had just purchased a pair of RF-7II’s to add to my RC-64II, swapping out a set of RF-82II’s. I thought I’d breathe a little fire into the front stage, so I ordered an XPA-3 Gen2 for my left, right, and center. I was super impressed with the sound of my XPA-3 using my RX-V2500 as a pre-amp for the fronts and an actual amp for my four surrounds. I was super happy, but wanted an HDMI receiver with Bluetooth. I was so impressed with the build quality of the XPA that a month later I decided to go ahead and get the Fusion with the cash from the sale of my RF-82’s. What I like: Packaged very well, and the build quality is awesome. It’s on par with the Japanese stuff and has a metal face. At 25 pounds it’s a tank for such a thin receiver. In fact with my Oppo BDP-83SE stacked with it, it’s still not as tall as my XPA-3. The sound is warm and detailed. My definition of “warm” is the speaker is extremely detailed, but the treble is not over-powering making it tiring to listen to. The lower bass frequencies aren’t lacking and there is a punch to the bass. That being said, don’t expect this right out of the box. When I first hooked it up it made my RF-7’s it sounded like they were right in my face. The treble was harsh and the bass was somewhat lacking. I left the Fusion on for about three days straight playing music. It now produces a warm sound and is awesome! I love the fact that the HDMI stays on the last video source when you switch to music. The Fusion’s Cirrus DAC’s seem to be on par with my BDP-83SE for 7.1. I have it hooked up both ways and in switching back and forth it sounds almost the same for movies in the mids and highs. There might be a little more detail using the Oppo’s DAC’s, but as far as bass, my subs sound so my better using the Fusion to do the processing through its DAC’s via HDMI. As for 2-channel CD listening there is still no comparison. The Oppo’s stacked DAC’s sound superior to me. The Bluetooth sounds pretty darn good even though I have an iPhone that doesn’t have Apt-X. I’m considering the apple TV route – I would be interested on any feedback anyone has on that. What I don’t like: The room correction only fully optimizes for 5.1. It will calculate the distance of your rear surrounds, the frequency cut-off, and sound level; however, it will not do any equalizing for the 6th and 7th channels. In addition you can’t even manually use the parametric EQ for the rear surrounds. You can however go crazy with the EQ of the other five channels, and it even gives you three bands for the sub. Was this the case with the UMC-200? Do I have a setting wrong I wonder? Maybe I just don't understand how to make that work yet. That being said, the auto EQ room correction to me sounds harsh and fatiguing in the treble anyways so I'm not using it. I wasn’t a fan of the auto EQ portion of YPAO either and I always just set it as Flat which is what I did with the Fusion. Don't expect it to get the cut-off for your sub right either. I manually set it to 80hz. There is a very slight hum in my front three speakers through the XPA-3 when the volume is completely down hooked to the Fusion. This was not the case with my Yamaha being used as a pre-amp. I may be a little picky though as the hum goes away when music is played even at the lowest volume setting and you literally almost have to put your ears up to the horns of the front speakers to hear any hum at all. Any buyer’s remorse? - I have absolutely no regrets on my decision; however, I have formed an opinion that my ten year old Yamaha RX-V2500 is still a legit performer so I will be keeping it! I now have it upstairs on my Forte’s for two channel listening. At first there was a definite difference in sound between the Fusion and the Yamaha. Now after the Fusion has been on for a few days straight that sound gap has closed. The Fusion/XPA-3/RF-7II combo sounds much more detailed and has just the right amount of very tight effortless bass. In fact there is so much bass that I don’t use my subs for music at all. The Forte/Yamaha combination is not quite as detailed, but it may be because these speakers are from 1986 and have never been capped. If you have any questions or want me to experiment further let me know. Maybe next year I will pull the trigger on Emotiva’s XMC-1, but for now I’m very pleased!

  3. Buddy of mine found these at Savers (like Goodwill). He had just walked in store when Savers brought them out. $140 for the pair!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After thinking about it for a nanosecond he bought them complete with chicken wire installed in front of woofer from inside. Must have been in a bar or theater based on handles and bolt holes an chicken wire ala bar scene in Blues Brothers. I am redoing these for him using curly walnut aircraft veneer. I'll replace the 2 and 4uf caps on the B network with some Sonicraft caps (he didn't want to spend more). I haven't picked them up yet but he says one K-77 tweeter might not work. These had a 1/4" pa jack in back and it may be lose. Both woofers are K-33 (one square magnet and one round). The square magnet has a vented smaller dustcap than the other woofer. I'll test specs on woofers as part of redo. No grill frames so I'll build those. Plan on inserted solid walnut corner blocks and front trim. These have the old upholstery stuff on walls. Anyone think I should keep it? Other than being old it is relatively good shape. I may add some cross and front to back bracing as well.

  5. If he named them, he is the DADDY. Now, as the whether they are Heritage, or not is neither here, nor there; they are ALL Klipsch.

  7. Roger, what makes you think PWK didn't have any involvement with those loudspeaker. I know he gave the nod to the tractrix horns that Bruce Edgar brought to him. Those horns, or some very much like them, ended up in the Forte II and Chorus II (I was also told that Dr. Edgar wept when he was informed that they would be used). PWK also named those loudspeakers. I'm pretty sure that anything PK named, and had some involvement with -- are considered "Heritage". I sent mail to both Hunter and Delgado. We will have to be satisfied with whatever they decide to contribute. If it's just a "yes" or a "no", I'm afraid we're going to have to live with that.

  8. Google, "Klipsch Jim Hunter" One of the things that will come up is the four part video that Jim did on the museum, it's excellent. In one of those videos is a picture of PWK standing with some loudspeakers -- one which is clearly the Chorus. If you guys want, I can shoot Hunter an email and ask.

  10. Bummer Mark. I had takeout from a deli for lunch and Salmon with mojito Sauce from Trader Joe's for dinner. Had a good day as outlined in the thread "A Gift". Still doing the 8 O'clock/coconut cream/stevia routine. A bit of sun shine this morning Cheers Gents!

  11. I appreciate your opinion Reference but I'm not sure I follow your logic. If someone "upgraded" the engine in your car for free and as a result, let's say it ran slower or made noise, you still would say, "Oh that guy did a super job on my engine"? Seriously? Just because someone does a service or free, doesn't obligate a positive review. In my mind, a good job warrants a good review, a bad job warrants a bad review, Plain and simple. And for what it's worth, if I would have paid for the upgrade, how would that make my opinion then unbiased? My goal isn't to "win" anything with a review. If at the end of the day my review sounds biased to you, so be it. My feelings will not be offended. I don't know anyone that owns gear that isn't somewhat biased simply because it is their gear.

  12. I am not sure how the whole OBLIGATION issue has even entered into the equation... we're all understandably curious and excited about a 7ii enhancement. That is what is driving our interest.

  16. Hi All! After years of wanting and waiting, I recently purchased a pair of 2 piece LSI La Scala's that I am restoring. They're in pretty good shape but need a fresh coat of paint, crossover re-fresh, etc.. Here's my question. I know this particular model had an option of pocket handles installed from he factory. There is a handle on the top, midrange and tweeter section, but no handles on the bottom section. Could you get them with handles on the woofer section?? If so, I need to know the measurements on where to install the handles on the bottom section. I want to keep these as close to original spec as possible so I don't wanna just slap some handles on them. Any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! seanwmil

  20. Undertood and appreciated...I appreciate all facts from klipsch to a T as you do as well. The lost 3 as it may be stated may be of no actual descent although that is so difficult to understand, no platform for them to stand upon?... They have to be of the final heritage standards/possibilities. As far as it can be found the only label to put these 3 or 5 with the second series has to fall under a final PWK if not directly handled Pauls blessing and appreciation was developed to a point at this notion.

  21. The CRUX of my argument is that Paul never designed those speakers. If not a PWK design, then what makes them heritage???? Roger

  22. I am also 2 channel on tubes for music. No .1 as well. I absolutely love my 2 channel system. I also have some new mods and gear ready to ad as well as other amps to test. I do not want to touch anything. Its ultra fine. I do not see changing possibly ever. Free, up for grabs gear would not move me. I love what i have and no other has anything identical to it as im sure all everybody has as well.. 2 CHANNEL AND TUBES FOR ME!!!!!! I will say i watch tv or movies in 11.2....music is in 2 channel period

  26. I just don't see what would be wrong with youth being honest about what he likes and don't like about the upgrade ? Would it be better if he just said nothing and let other members pay for a x over upgrade and take their chances - good or bad ? This is how most people make decisions by other peoples reviews .

  27. Speaking of "duhs", your comments indicate that you either have not looked at the curve or simply don't understand what it means. Which is it? It seems pretty obvious to those who have made favorable comments.

  28. I don't remember that question. When I replaced the original K-33 with the 15C in a Cornwall , I noticed better bass definition less boom. In my Lascala's the change was minimal. My initial impression was a smoother presentation, but hard to tell when swapping a new driver in for a 30 year old one. Dave Yes, that would be the higher BL at work. Stronger motor.

  29. Just curious why I would want to do that and mess up their beautiful finish? The would be placed behind a false wall so they wouldn't need to match the black color scheme.Budman has become a Klipsch Heritage Goth . . . He is trying to proselytize. ;-)

  31. Jim Hunter is the official Klipsch Historian. I don't think he would sit still for any BS related to matters involving PK's loudspeakers or anything else for that matter. It's hard to imagine a situation involving fact gathering for the website and the guy who knows everything about everything not being consulted.

  32. Sung in the choir two straight services this morning, including repeating all 6 stanzas of "I am the resurrection..." TWICE for communion as we had a record attendance. Totally worn out and happy coming home to a beautiful sunny day. Then the PAW did a KILLER leg o lamb roast with mint sauce. Settled in afterwards for an hour of Percy Grainger with the marvelous little Jolida driving the Frazier Elevens...which will be picked up by new owner Mark Zenial Saturday. Fine day! Dave

  33. Your decision. I have heard nothing but good about the Denon (in fact I own one). I also have heard that Audyssey is better than the competition in calibrating for your room. I can't personally confirm it as I have no first hand knowledge of it. All I can say is I have owned 3 Denons, 1 Pioneer Elite and 1 Yamaha AVR and I like all of them at the time I owned them and didn't find them lacking.

  37. That's pretty close together to get proper sound stage width and scale, unless the primary listening position is near-field, which is probably not advisable for those speakers anyway. Getting them spaced wider, in closer proximity to the corners, will bring the bass up. While you're at it, don't be afraid to play with toe-in, perhaps to a more extreme degree than you have previously. Your speaker's directivity in the upper registers can be used to your advantage to sidestep early first reflections. Reducing that high freq reflected sound will help shift the tonal balance to the warmer side at the listening position. You may find it to result in better imaging/sound stage, too. Have a look at THIS for some ideas on how to get a stable image over a large area. Howdy, and try to keep working at what you have, until you are expended. First hit the THIS that *Ski Bum has posted for you to read, and move the speakers to as far apart as space permits. Then do the first toe-in towards you the listener X number of feet away from speaker. Then toe-in a bit further, while listening to same material/source. That null thing must be occuring somewhere, IMLO. Takes time so relax and reflect while reading these frontline posters. A process of elimination is in order, one at a time.

Better not, we like you posting here and not sure if your heart could take it ? Interesting topic. Iv always wondered if i were the only one. My system lies dormant too so often. I love music and have cds iv never heard yet. i wondered how many of us around here actually listen to our gear lol I honestly have more gear than i know what to do with(im down to what keeps me content even giving some of of my favorite gear to friends) and have music always just a button push away. My wife listens to hers all the time. I guess its just a bunch of great people on this forum and for myself just having my gear ready keeps me content
