So for the first few weeks they are going crazy trying to find the "Ping" and after three weeks they find their "Ping", now for the last few weeks they cannot find out where the "Pinging" is coming from, sounds like a Clusterfk to me. sure hope they do better if I ever get lost.

CL can be a complete setup also. I've only sold a few items, and I prefer to meet somewhere in public if it's a small item. I really don't want a lot of traffic at my home. This was posted by myself on another forum today and was subsequently deleted from that forum without comment. Apparently discussion of its moderator policies or behavior is too much to handle there. Note also that that unnamed forum is much different than this forum in terms membership makeup and focus. I posted this here only as a "caveat emptor" to those that might want to post there. While the technical discussions there can be outstanding, the behavior of some of the "local experts" there can be atrocious at times, and some very unfriendly postings that would be locked on this forum can sometimes be defended by moderators of that other unnamed forum. Enjoy! Communicating and motivating effectively to encourage enjoyment and curiosity by readers (and in the broader category of science and engineering in general) is both a gift and a discipline. However in practice I've found significant differences between the two practicing groups of scientists vs. engineers. I've found that engineers (a very large group within which I find myself practicing) tend to be less inclined to "suffer fools gladly" and to regard technical viewpoints different than their own as potentially valid. Typically, I've found that engineers viewpoints are developed over time usually by taking effort to integrate their beliefs into a useful body of knowledge for business application...but sometimes in related technical disciplines simultaneously clinging to memeplexes (especially hi-fi memeplexes). But I also find that the best science educators that I've worked with seem to be better at developing alternative models/theories, trading them off for the situation of interest, and communicating effectively--including energizing their readers/listeners to learn more. This is an important distinction, IMHO. In hi-fi audio circles, the ability to integrate and communicate all relevant science, engineering, and business disciplines simultaneously to achieve "good, affordable, effective, and fun" hi-fi sound is actually far more difficult than it looks. In terms of effectively communicating this knowledge, skills, and abilities, it also takes effort and a willingness to invest in their readers' understanding of the world and the state of the art. This is where I typically find a lack of attention to detail in communication by one of these two groups. Perhaps this is due to a lack of understanding of the way that others view technical topics, perhaps a lack of empathy in trying to understand them. By way of example, I'll take a couple of real life examples that haunt these threads: Nelson Pass and Tom Danley. Both of these individuals clearly are interested in their reader's understanding and interest in do it yourself projects, and I believe that it shows. The payoff is eventually great indeed, but the investment is also high. Now I'll turn my attention to the unnamed technocrat "lurker" population that pounce on threads like tigers and then push their own agendas to achieve their own goals, regardless of the effect that this approach has on their follow thread posters or readers. The results of this type of investment is also noted. This forum has both types of individuals, but unfortunately I find larger numbers of the second variety. In some instances, I see extreme lengths to which some of this second group will go to achieve whatever goals that they wish with indifference to their fellow posters' personal needs. That the resident moderating police force at times has allowed such behavior is of interest. Sometimes there has even been participation in ritualistic "neophyte sacrifices" by some moderators themselves. That moderators participate in thread discussions at all is itself a bit of a surprise when the norm is for moderators to refrain from commentary on reader comments. This is unfortunate in that the stated objective of the forum is to "learn, share knowledge, and enjoy interacting with others"...that encourages even neophytes. However, the real objective of this blog is not to cast blame or dredge up negative feelings, but to encourage those with knowledge base in these subject areas to invest further and more deeply in their fellow readers' needs. This includes the broadening not only their knowledge of circuit design and electro-magnetics (basic subjects of the discipline of electrical engineering) but also in classical and modern acoustics, psychoacoustics (in particular for forbearance in the general level of discipline uncertainties that have not yet been subjected to exhaustive formal scientific inquiry), and to possess a healthy respect of [avoiding a] rush to judgment in terms of "show me the data" proving subjective observation, in order for these same challengers to deny that unexplored psychoacoustic effects are likely. The domain of hi-fi audio isn't a closed engineering domain - but it also includes as a critical last step subjective listener evaluations...but within reason and balance to objective measurements. The various engineering disciplines have made their progress not only by scientific method, but also by heuristics and subjective observations borne out by repeatability of observations by others. To take an extreme position on either end of the "subjective-objective" scale is not a balanced systems approach to effective engineering - especially hi-fi. Chris

Thanks for the info. I appreciate everyones help and advice since I'm a rookie to this all. I'm also noticing that the speaker wire hook-up in the back of the Heresies have binding posts instead of spring terminals. I'm wondering how to properly connect the speaker wires to these. It also appears as though I'm missing a few screws in back. There currently is only one between both speakers. As long as ya don't loose ya nuts ya be alright. Most of us have at least a few screws loose if not totally gone.

Matrix is correct. lol, i can't believe some actualy haven't seen the movie yet. the first of the Matrix trilogy is the best, imo. The Matrix made famous with its introduction to the 360 angle shot of Trinity in the opening sequence and the bullet time revolutionized new shooting techniques in the film industry. Created with hi-def sound, RF or Heritage speaker surrounds are just the perfect speakers to drive all the sound effects. If you haven't seen it yet, you're still in the matrix..lol.

Not with the present false wall. I have 23" from the very back wall to the edge of the screen. I could move the screen forward a few inches if needed as it is held against the wall with bungee cord for easy removal. I don't think they would sound good the height of the screen as the horn and mid horn would be way above ear level. Maybe if I flipped them upside down? You could angle them down aiming toward the MLP... I think that they would sound fine then Moving the screen a few inches wouldn't be hard I think and would not detrack from the look I think. I would move the screen about a foot to account for the speakers being angled downward. You would have to dummy the speakers in position to figure out exactly how far to move it... Unless you are good at Descriptive Geometry.

I moved the LaScalas behind the doors on the side wall to see how they sound. Definitely very little toe in (if any). I remember measuring a LONG time ago and knew the LaScala was the absolute largest heritage speaker that would fit behind the false wall. They squeezed in there with 1/2" to spare on all sides. After closing the doors, I tested out a scene from Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon and then a few songs in 2ch and honestly, it didn't sound good at all. It sounded much better when I moved from my center chair to the side wall in front of a speaker. I'm guessing the sound is hitting the door on the way out and causing some bad reflections and the inside of each door is preventing the horn to have a wide dispersion as it could be if it was out in the open. As you can see below, the "opening" in the doors are not the entire width of the doors. The guy that built the false wall made that section wide to support the weight of the door. Good for structure, but bad for acoustics. It limits how much I can toe in any speakers and anytime I put speakers behind the doors, it alters the sound. Honestly, I've always felt that the sound has suffered when I place my speakers behind the doors of the false wall. That's why I have been keeping the RF-83's out in front of the doors for some time now. Plus it is nice to be able to look at their beautiful cherry finish.

I like your plan Joe, however that means I need to buy the van here, and that was what I was trying to avoid, h-ll iv got two full size pickups, but they are open in the back so a van sounds like the way to go.

Larry thanks for the input. I don't know if it is skating across the grooves it just sounded heavy thru the grooves on a particular record. The music was not affected as in you could hear it transfer to the speakers. It was more of a heavy tone arm/ cartridge dragging thru the grooves. And one record was noticeable while others weren't. I played at low volumes as there were napping kids today and in between tracks I didn't notice anything until a particular record played. We may be talking the same thing here but as with most sound or noise, it can be hard to describe without hearing it for oneself.

I passed on the speaker. I did send an email to Klipsch, but haven't heard back yet.

Its so frustrating these days being about 40 and how twisted the listening to music has become. I understand the dead spot many years ago and appreciate filling that with a center. I also hold dearly audio blurays and sacd truly it is a great standard to show the appeal of true surround sound music. Money is the factor i find that has saturated the world with music in surround sound. To actually walk in to a store so very few and so very far away with any 2 channel setups for demo then buy are basically obsolete. I do watch my movies in surround. Music on the other hand under all circumstances should be in 2 channel. Its so simple. And manufacturers that cater to the 2 channel truth music movement as i see it reserve such a premium to obtain the gear to enjoy 2 channel if you can find it at all. Its all on the internet by order and take a chance and send it back if its not what you want. And even at that point with a 2 or 3 way 2 channel system a subwoofer makes music happen in ways that need to be done. There are still not 2.1/2.2 preamps made to provide the clarity other than to use lfe which is a loss in so many cases of valuable tones of bass. I do not understand why surround sound has completely wrapped music into a non possibility of 2.1 or there about due to the surround sound movement. Its terrible

I have macrotech 1200 on the shelf, will have to use it to blow some dust out of these LSI's over Labor Day weekend. Got a QSC 1400 that'd prob do nicely for the mid/hi's when I BIAMP these bad boys. That should get the neighbor's attention. I can finally get him back for using his leaf blower every Sunday last fall! Michael
