  2. So my son and I purchased Need for Speed tonight. The wife was heading to bed so that meant the RSW-15 would have to go night night as well since she is such a light sleeper. I switched the LaScalas to Full Range since the sub was turned off. You probably know how I have shared how unimpressed I've been with the bass response from the LaScalas. Tonight, my faith in their low frequency performance has been renewed! We had it at a descent level and I kept finding myself smiling from ear to ear like a little kid on Christmas morn. As the cars raced by and panned from speaker to speaker, the LaScalas continued to impress me with clarity and for the first time, in low frequency. It was so lifelike and immersive that both my son and I kept commenting how sweet it sounded even without the sub. There were a few LFE drops that the LaScalas handled wonderfully smooth without distortion albeit not the slam I get from the RSW-15. When the Army Helicopter pulls up from the ridge in the "Hooking Up" scene, the sound of the rotors of the copter was truly stunning. The more I listen to the LaScalas, the more I confirm that they are a HUGE upgrade from my previous RF-83 / RC-64.

  4. If by "scratch" you are referring to money, I paid MUCH less for the LaScala Trio than I sold my RF-83 / RC-64 for. I totally agree. The Reference Series are still fantastic speakers. I think the RF-83 are just too laid back of a sound. I might have to bring the RF-7ii into the HT to see how they compare with the LaScalas. Just be careful....once you hear a good Heritage setup, you might find yourself joining the club. When I first purchased a pair of LaScala, I really had no intention of keeping them. I bought them to hear in my own home, share some photos and a review of how they compare to the RF-83's in the forum but within a few weeks of owning them, I purchased a third LaScala and sold the RF-83 / RC-64. I cannot believe how much more clarity and detail the LaScalas have over the RF-83 / RC-64.

  5. We come together to grieve when it's a famous person because their fame connects us, and it's a grief we can share in that commonality. It should not, and does not, take away the value of anyone who has battled similar demons.

  10. A few days late... but visited the Air Force museum in Dayton in June. On August 9, 1945, this plane dropped a nuclear bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. 35,000 killed and almost double that injured. Also, a pic of Urakami Cathedral in Nagasaki. This area of Japan contained at the time, perhaps the largest Christian population in Asia.

  11. How did this one escape without a comment? If I were a porn star, I could only make comedies. In real life, I'm a geocustodial engineer - my company cleans up stinky dirt and water after studying it to death.

  13. A run of sunny days in store so I hear. Got a date on Friday with little miss geneticist/clay slinger/welder. A tad shorter than I'm use to at 5'4" but I'll adjust. She said dinner was fine but wants to go Dutch. Told her I didn't know of any Dutch restaurants but I'll look into it. Jake walked, coffee finished, off to shower and the barber shop. The name of the shop is "Buzz's Barber Shop" really. I've known him since high school. Cheers Gents

  14. Some great observations in this thread. Of the crew here, I know of at least four who have clinical depression - including Colter and myself. I will say this - medication doesn't work well, and you simply end up anchoring yourself to a thing or two that you use to justify living. Be careful what you choose, When I was told I had Cancer, a part of me, and I mean a BIG part of me experienced a feeling of profound relief. I thought, "so then, this crushing fatigue will finally end". I love it when my Mom says, "...you have nothing to be depressed about, happiness is a choice." I've been trying for a decade to get her to go to WebMD and learn about what I'm dealing with. Colter and me can get on the phone and drive each other to tears with laughter over the ignorance of others about this. We suffer in different ways, but I know exactly what he's feeling. Bye Robin, we are sure going to miss you - but you knew that already, didn't you?

  16. Set ALL your speakers to FULL Range, with SW on. You may find out for movies that Bass is very much directional; that is will show up in all your speakers, to your pleasant surprise. This goes against convention wisdom; but, it is just an experiment.

  20. Hey there ! I recognize many of your from the Fine Food and Music forum! I will say this about coffee.... We have a lovely KitchenAid BUR grinder (40ies style)(yeah, don't HEAT up your beans with a wizzing 'blade' grinder!) and usually our coffee comes from Whole Foods where they roast it IN HOUSE, under the brand name 'Allegro' ... We go for Italian or French roast, OR, a 'double' roast for the max in strong flavour! Have a very good Cuisinart coffee machine... Just my two cents .............Gary

  22. Cool thread... I enjoyed reading what others do for a living. Not that I would have ever been able to guess what anybody on here did for a living, but there were several that I thought, "I wouldn't have pegged (insert name here) as a/an (insert career here)!" I'm the Vice-President/Sales of a 150 man Aerospace Manufacturing small business that specializes in machining exotic metals (Inconel, Titanium, etc.) Most of our components go on aircraft engines and landing gear. Wifey stays home with a 2.5 year old girl and a 1.5 year old boy. And I don't know how she does it.

  23. Haven't posted in awhile....... So after many years of dreaming about having a finished basement I was able to buy a house and finish the basement and set my stereo up in a nice family friendly environment. We were able to enjoy it for two years until the whole basement flooded yesterday. I lost two RSW15's, two RF7's, two RF3's and possibly a B&K Reference 200.5 amp. I know it's just stuff and doesn't mean a whole lot but I spent years (and gobs of money) building that system and had plans on keeping it for ever. -Sad Guy in Royal Oak.

  24. I can understand this I plan to have the theater and the next house mostly done when having the house built so I can just go in put my speakers in place and hit the on button. My theater had a ton of it done by me and although it came out nearly perfect (im meticulous with paint and details and wiring) It took me nearly 6 months of working every sat and a few nights in the evening after work to get it finished. I’d like to have a builder do the work next time for me or in your case a contractor etc. That being said when it comes time to handling the projector/speaker/amps etc I don’t like people touching them and I’ll be putting those in myself

  25. Actually got these sometime last week for the bar, our daughter gave me the cast iron sign and my wife wanted it hung up over my hammock by the bar. On the other side of the bar I hung the second sign, it's metal and from the store at the end of the Tail of the Dragon in NC and into Tenn. The dragon is a road 11 miles long with 318 curves and is famous for cars and bikes racing up and down through the curves. We spent the day there on a pull off just watching everyone race up and down, it's a nice place to just sit back and watch all the different kinds of bikes and cars take the curves.

  35. I believe that! lol Honestly right now, the room my personal HT is in is way too small for the setup I have. Still living at home until I'm out of school - the setup is complete as far as 5.1 goes, I'm looking at get the missing pieces, but can only imagine what it'll be like when I move it to a living room setting. I've bought just about everything as far as audio goes, but most of that I've gifted to the mother for putting up with my shenanigans as a kid. lol I have - however - warned her of my intent to get ahold of some LaScalla's for the living room if I ever get some extra cash. So somewhere in my head I know I'm going to at least own a pair eventually.

  38. Mr.Crites I have a pair of Heresy ii's with rebuilt crossovers. I used some M caps, Jupiter wax caps and some Auricaps along with North Creek air core inductors for the tweeters, and some iron core inductors for the woofers. Both the tweeters & mid's have new Titanium diaphragms. They sound great to me however I'm curious about your recommendation to "adjust" the mid crossover for the Ti diaphragm. Thanks.

  40. Co-worker of mine was about 250 lbs or so (he was down to that from 370)…he's driving the work truck. Window down and arm resting on the door. He's holding a cheeseburger in his left hand as he drives. He hits a pothole and the truck bounces like crazy, bouncing him up off the seat, he drops the cheeseburger out the window. there is cop close behind and he gets a ticket for littering. He goes into court and says, "your honor…take a look at me…do i look like a guy that would throw away a perfectly good cheeseburger?" The judge laughs but finds him guilty citing that the cop was an eyewitness. He didn't text the story or anything…i just wanted to tell you.

She has a year and a half to go to retirement, great time to score the "Other Home", got a ranch out toward Fallon that i can pick up for dam near nothing, however that maybe a bit farther out from Reno than im willing to go, the wife and i agree, something close to a minimega town is nice. We have a place on the Oregon coast we rent out, we just cannot live there year round, too dam wet.

She gets a free shopping day today, well deserved by now, at least she did not ask me to make room in the driveway. Me, well i get to figure out this new Garmin unit.
