  1. Met a new lady at a favorite watering hole down by the river. After one glass of wine she says "would you like to see my house"? So we did Cheers Gents

  3. It's been my experience that subwoofers perform better for the infrasonic portion of the aural spectrum, i.e., 40 Hz and below. Loudspeaker bass bins are much better above that frequency--categorically. I believe the tendency to run the crossover frequency higher is something that the cheap "home theater in a box" folks started with their tiny little loudspeakers, and before that, the movie theaters used because of the immense size of their venues and the problems that they used to have filling those room volumes with large amounts of low frequency acoustic energy below 80 Hz --this is a historic thing that movie theaters ran into, and THX took ownership of. Otherwise, I think that the movie theaters would've run that crossover frequency much lower Putting the subwoofer/bass bin crossover at 40-50 Hz significantly helps to keep modulation distortion down to manageable levels in home theaters. YMMV. Chris

  5. It doesn't sound like someone knows how to think outside the box. The idea of business is to do business and when they turn you away when there are cash registers running... Yeah - it answers some questions as to why they are perishing. They're paying someone to turn business away - why not pay that person to man a register and take sales of a non-iPhone nature?

  9. I know most of HT is RF, so I was looking through some old pics and thought you might want to see to pics of them being built ? I know very little about the Rf line, we have some RB-75's but that's all. All these are in Hope, so I guess it's RF-7's, you all would know better ?

  10. My 1402 has been relegated to the attic. It couldn't handle switching between stereo and Dolby 5.1 signals. If you were listening to a CD player in stereo then switched to TV, you'd have to turn the receiver off and back on before it would recognize the Dolby signal. POS...i get irritated just thinking about it. No offense meant, but are you sure that it wasn't just a defective amp? I've never heard of something like that happening before. It was probably just mine. Surely they can't all be that irritating.

  11. The actual device is the 'loss leader' for other revenue streams, commissions, rebates, kick backs, contracts, extended warranties, etc. Same with the ink jet printer where the actual printer is the 'loss leader' and recurring revenue is from the sale of ink. You can see it everywhere such as a grocery stores will sell you a head of lettuce below cost because more often than not, the purchase of a head of lettuce will lead to the sale of other items at a higher margin that may include tomatoes, cucumbers, salad dressing, cheese, etc.

  13. You got 56 channels? Man, you and I need to talk to figure out exactly "rural" means. Being in West Virginia, I am also "rural" and when I tested an over-the-air antennae, I got FOUR channels, TWO of which were PBS! +++ Have you thought about copy and pasting your original post to email and and sending it to Best Buy? I would be interested to know if they respond to you.

  14. Its not fair to compare the 4.2's to the RF-5's. That would be like the Denver Broncos playing the best high school team in the country. They are both great speakers but just not in the same league. The RF-5 will put music in your face with very fast, accurate bass, baby bottom smooth mids and crystal clear highs. The RF-5 is a stellar speaker. Had it nor been for the deal I got on my RF-7's, I would still own the RF-5's and I would still be happy.

  15. I'm thinking of the SR7007 or 7008 - or equivalent at the moment for the main two rooms, and NR1403's for the smaller two rooms. The last room will be the biggest change...I mean...seriously...anything would be a step up from an Aiwa shelf system.

  18. Yeah, compared to the dual EQ-max 10, the RC-64 ii wins according to my taste. But i dont know if i should upgrade my amp to XPR-5 to feed more power to the L/R/C and surs or use this money for upgrading to dual decent 15" subs and then turn up the crossover knob to 120hz to achieve the best result in the midbass range. The 2 most important channels/speakers in a HT are the center and the sub(LFE). You have the center covered. Upgrade the subs, no question. Get an amp down the road if you still feel the need.

  23. YES our first pilgrimage, I was just setting there minding my own business listening to the band and they stopped playing to make a drawing, the first drawing a while earlier was won by Daddy Dee, he won a pair of RF-7's, a few minuets later they stopped again and picked my name for the last drawing, I was hoping for a klipsch T shirt. I almost fell off my chair, when trey said I won a pair of Cornwall lll's and I could pick from Walnut, black of Cherry I think it was , they weren't made yet. They said I looked like I was having a heart attack, I don't know I was just in shock. It really took a little while to realize what really happened, you never expect to win something like that. We drove back up to Hope to get them, I didn't want them to ship, and we got to visit he plant again and meet some more people. When we went to the plant to talk to them about the wood I asked if it was possible that whoever worked on them would sign the back to give some credit for the work they do. They didn't want to do that to the speaker, so they took pic's of them being built and had everyone sign a certificate who worked on them and gave me a CD with the pic's of them being built. It was way more than I expected, it was just an idea as to show I appreciated the work they do. When I think about it or even see the speakers I think about the whole thing, I don't care what happens I will never get rid of them. Oh they sound great and look beautiful.

  24. While we certainly sit amazed at your audio IQ and respect your opinion on myriad topics; perhaps your co-workers view you differently. "Go ask Michael, then do the opposite." At this point, I'd mess with their head and convince them that the sound from a clock radio is just as good--draw curves on a piece of paper and toss out a bunch a numbers...because you & I know that 86.7% of statistics are made up on the spot.

  27. I realize I'm late to this party, but this is the coolest vocal composition I've run through my system this year so far! The global voice. Streaming compression be damned, I was transported..I shed a tear. I lit the candles and cranked the volume up until I could feel it in the couch. Sheer, soul-stirring fuel for the system right here. It started with this, which had me completely smitten: Then opened door number two, which flooded the entire wing of the house with angelic presence: Three followed. Steeped in harmonies: Finally, the fourth installment. A pop piece with electronic accompaniment and a simply staggering amount of participation. I was hooked through to end of the credits: Some background on the project:

  28. I currently had a THX Ultra 7.2 speaker set up and am thinking upgrading my AVR for Dolby Atmos. What speakers would suggest add? Thanks

  29. The issue is that the employee at the door has no discretion, He was told the only thing that was to sell were iphones. When we had small hardware, electronics, food, etc., stores, employees could use their brains and exercise their judgment. In big stores, as with an assembly line, you do what you have been told...no more, no less.

  30. Cell phones are extremely high demand items; cell phones fall into the planned obsolescence category with an extremely large, bordering on gargantuan, secondary market for used phones and 'unlocked' phones; and extended warranties for the most part go straight to the bottom line as income for a company with very little offsetting expenses.

  31. I want to understand why it is that all of these electronics stores felt the need to jump on the phone bandwagon in the first place - I mean...come on, the carriers carry all of the phones anyway - why would you stick your nose in that business? RadioShack was a nightmare to work for when I did. The emphasis was on selling phones and service plans (why you should CHARGE someone to have a standard warranty, I'll never know). Feh...good riddance if they disappear.

  32. Not surprised really. look at Radio Shack, it's not to old stores with all the cool things that can be used to build stuff or repair things, it's a cell phone sales store first, and a few cheaply made accessories at best, and they wonder why there about to go under.

  35. Who wouldn't? The faster something goes the faster it resonates. Define how to tell the difference in sound of a 30Hz sine wave being played through a "fast" sub versus the sound you hear of the same 30Hz sine wave being played through a "slow" sub.

  37. HaHa that story sounds so familiar. I've lost all common sense with audio a lont time ago as well....problem is, im not done...

  38. It depends on the sub. Some subs play well up to 200-300 Hz. I guess the bigger question is wether the OP is wondering if the Veldyne sub can keep up with his mains. Mustang guy said best: when you keep turning up the volume of the system, the sub volume should go up with the speakers. If it can't you have your answer.

  39. The close up pic I had was them setting on a metal rack waiting to be installed, they tested each one and matched sets to go in the speakers, they were different looking compared to any other driver I seen in the plant. I thought I put a pic of that here once before, I can't find it in the hard drive it seems to have disappeared, hope I didn't remove my copy when I posted it ? I even went looking here to get the pic back, but I have no idea how long ago it was and got tired of searching.

  41. I think speakers of note like Klipsch over subs in that range. My take on a sub is sub duty in the low say 20 hz to maybe 60, 80 tops...

  42. Total waste. I saw it for the first time last week. Up close it is unreal and blows HD away, but when ya get back 10ft there is not much a diff compared to 1080P. Plus there is no content Wait a few ears.

  43. The specifications for the Fisher 500c appear to be 30W/channel into 8 ohms. The Jub is about 1-2 dB more efficient than the Khorn--driven by bass bin efficiency. Try it - I don't believe that you'll be disappointed, in fact you might be delighted by the fact that the input impedance is a bit more controlled than Khorns, so if you use the 8 ohm taps, you should have relatively flatter FR than a Khorn. Chris Thanks for the input. I'm going to give it a shot. I'll give some feedback later.... Boxx

  46. The worst part is the adhesive, which is everywhere, including around the holes for the leads, which btw, are too small for the leads of the Mills resistors. So, some drilling had to be performed. Dull bits and low speed rotation will pull the foil right off the board. I've been bypassing just about everything these days. I thought it was complete nonsense until I bypassed the critical series caps in my RB-61 monitors. The Dayton caps are rebranded Bennic metallized polypropylenes. The bypass caps are Dayton film and foils. I cut open one of the stock capacitors, and I'm pretty sure they're polyesters (Mylar). Apparently Klipsch has no interest in putting me out of business!
