  2. Blessings to Mr. boxx's family. No need to wish Mr. Box anything other than to have pleasant journey. It is he who is in a better place. It is us who need to deal with worldly issues, such as pain, and so forth. I lost my step dad, Bill Knapp, last July. It was he who introduced me to the world audiophilia. I've since inherited my step dad's audio equipment. At first, I felt a tremendous guilt, but then, I realized that no one would appreciate his rig more than me. I listen to it, and think of him every single day with great gratitude and pride. The way I see it, I'm borrowing Bill's equipment. I will take care and hold onto this rig until my own time comes. That's the deal. Hopefully, there will be someone who will one day feel the same way I do now. We're bound by memories, this equipment and the sweet love of music. My condolences, Joseph

LF and I walked the critter while discussing our guitar progress (or lack there of). We both are committed to the full year. The LF does a lot better job with tablescapes Gary so I'll take my camera to her house. Maybe come up with some photos. She has one of those Green Egg grills by the way. Nice party pics dtel......you are a great host. Cheers Gents

  10. THESE HAVE BEEN SOLD. THANKS FOR LOOKING. Fellow member JimJimbo helped me score a pair of KLF-30's and KLF-20's from the same seller in his neck of the woods a while back. The KLF-20's had terribly rough cabinets, complete with a crushed top corner. I took the opportunity to combine my love of DIY speaker building with my love of the KLF series. The cabinets are void free Baltic Birch and built with the exact same internal dimensions as the stock cabinets. The stock front and back panels were used & contrast nicely with the birch. Some additional bracing was done, but not much since the panels are so stiff compared to the stock MDF. Tried & True oil varnish gives them a warm tone. I hand selected the plywood at my supplier based on the vivid grain. Crites titanium tweeters. Dayton Audio 1% precision caps replaced the stock in the crossovers. One woofer had to be replaced due to a rubbing voice coil. The grill screens are probably 7/8 out of 10, but one is missing a peg. I will include spikes, but they are not mounted. There are other worthwhile modifications that can be done to the ports, but I'll leave that up to the next owner to experiment with. I'm not willing to ship these. I will consider an hour or so drive to help in meeting halfway. I live near Toledo, Ohio. $850 is my asking price.

  15. Shaun has made miraculous improvements overnight. I contribute this to all the prayers. In the last 24 hrs he has gone from using the walker as a necessity to walking unassisted. He was having trouble formulating sentences at times, but that appears resolved also. He feels great except a headache that wavers in severity. We still need prayers for his artery to heal without causing additional strokes. We are still in a critical period. If it can heal without causing additional strokes, he should be able to get back to most normal activities. Sports and any jarring activities are still out of the question, but that will be just fine.

  16. My friend is looking for amplifier recommendations for the Jubilee bass bins. He has been using a 2A3 for the horns, McIntosh for the bass bins and a pair of Behringer EP4000 for the BassMaxx sub horns. You could say he likes dynamic and concert level sound. He now wants to try a pair of solid state monoblocks for the bass bins and use the McIntosh just as a pre. I was thinking maybe Emotiva XPA-1, D-Sonic M3-1500M, Red Dragon M1000, or possibly an Adcom GFA-5802. What do you think would work with this rig?

  18. so the days of picking you up the next day are done? I fell down a few steps once while REALLY drunk--i was asleep by the time i hit the ground--so they left me there. If you were outside they should have at least pulled you inside, or propped you against a wall. When it got late I hung out by the fire, there was a couple ladies who were having a little to good of a time, it's a gravel floor out here and they need a little help balancing at times so I stayed close to the fire, I did catch one girl, it was kind of funny, another girl I was talking to at the time said " that was good", everyone started paying a little more attention after that, a fire is not the place to fall into. No there was a little to pick up but not much, nothing compared to party's when we were younger, back than it would take all day to clean up. The older crowds are much neater and much less of a chance of attracting police. They/we were pretty loud but if the police would have came by they would have walked up and seen a bunch of people between 50 and 60 and probably would have laughed. We have good neighbors and an occasional loud party wouldn't be a problem, now it were every weekend it may be different, but they would be invited which they would have but it was like a class reunion.

  20. There are 2 on here that I know of that make and sell amps. One specializes in near sound listening and smaller amps, and the other is mixed. I haven't purchased from either of them, but they have been extremely helpful with information and time. Justin (ampsandsound.com) has helped me with several things without asking for a dime and I have read that many on here are extremely happy with his amps. I am actually speaking to him on a purchase as I need a higher powered amp. The other is Maynard (tubefanatic) who does the near sound listening. He also has been very helpful with information. he does more of the 3-4 watt amps. Both have been recommended by other forum members and if you can, should give them a shout. I'm sure there are several others on here that do the same, I just haven't met them yet. I do know Justin has a few that are under $1,000.00. Hope this helps give another avenue to finding someone.

  21. LF is sounding better and better. The green eggs are really a smoker also, and from what I have read a good one, especially if you live where it's cold, they are well insulated and hold temps very well even in freezing weather.

  24. That's why they're supposed to follow the conductor, no? No. A conductor time wise is to get things started and help change tempo. Most of the arm waving is for the audience. A good orchestra counts together. When I was a student at New England Conservatory I attended a fantastic BSO performance of the Rite of Spring conducted by some young guy whose name I don't remember. After the show I was talking to my teacher and made the comment that since the performance was so good the conductor must have been excellent as well. The response was an emphatic" NO. We just ignored him and followed the tympani. We all know the tune."

  26. I personally can't fathom not having discs. What if hard drive fails and you lose them all? Only way I would ever do something like that would be based on a server something elsewhere where their are backups upon backups. For now I'll just stick to building custom shelves for next to nothing that hold as many as I buy.

  27. Depends on how they're being stored. If you open the bag and store them in the grinder, I'd be sure to use them up in a week. They're certainly usable after that but not as fresh tasting (to me).

  28. I suspect that we are primarily looking at a quarter-sawn veneer or maybe rift-sawn as opposed to the more-familiar flat-sawn veneer that we see on speakers. While the grain structure is what makes the quarter-sawn cut more desirable for many people for zebra wood projects, a flat-sawn cut would give more of the traditional look that we typically see. Unless a special order, we typically see more flat-sawn veneer on speakers because the flat-sawn method of cutting the log is the cheapest to do and has the least amount of waste. Sometimes I read the debates on the woodworkers forums and the acoustic guitar forums for arguments about the best method to cut the wood for a particular piece of furniture or best method to cut the wood for a part of a guitar and a lot about grain orientation. The pictures below show how the grain structue of a wood board changes for the different types of cuts.

  32. Hope you stay with it. For me, the key was learning the scales and chords that go with them. That's really all you'd need to play well enough to have fun. I've been at it a long time but I'm still learning all the time. Tell Jake that Baxter sez 'yo.

  34. Thank you again for your compliments (everyone) on the KitchenAid bur machine... (OT, you need one of these !) It is a take off on their original design back in the day... Hear you on the KA mixers. As many know me from the Fine Food and Music forum, there are basically two kitchens in one here. So, yes, two KA stand mixers at two stations. One is a 'tilt back' in cobalt blue, and the other is the 6 quart 'professional' in white with side crank and all steel gears. So noisy on high speed, you don't have conversations when it is running ! .....gw PS. Todd, vegetarian here, but I will say I appreciate your efforts to get a foodie photo. we need MORE over in FF&M

  36. I took a few lessons when I was 33...remember saying to myself, "I ought to be pretty good by the time I'm 40". I'm now 51 and still suck, but I am still trying and when my guitar is in my hands I drink less. I'm giving it a better run this year. You have to attempt to play songs you like and not just boring exercises, all though important. Keep it going! Maybe Stew will help us stay motivated.

  38. Very nice grinder Gary! tnr.....no more guitar lessons since the first two. Doing some from YouTube but it's really slow going. Thanks for asking though. I will give it a year. We've got some serious coffee drinkers here. Guess we should mention cables since audio came up. Anybody like their cables? If you tie them in a knot does it slow the music tempo?

  39. Dtel, looks like a great time. I now know where to go for a good party, maybe I ought to get a bus and drive it down there picking up Klipsch members on the way. What a lazy day which was well needed. Dog is sleeping on my lap, I have 2 slabs of ribs in the smoker and listening to good tunes. Maybe a nap here or there.

  41. Belated greetings guys. My sometimes music playing buddy is in the hospital for MRI after several falls and now we gotta run to the in-laws. Not the ideal Sunday but at least I/we can help out. Saw the beard Duder. Pretty good. I have a goatee and really need it since I have more hair on my face (and ears and nose) than on my head these days. Cheers to all.

I seemed to have moved up to three cups a day recently. Jake walked in the rain. Warm rain....but rain. Cheers Gents
