  1. Guess I will finish off page 299 guys! Been busy feathering the nest. Picking out some interior paint for the hallway and dining room. Don't like to paint so will get estimates. Going a little bolder on the colors though. Still researching DACs and picking Joe's brain a little. Really should sell a couple pieces of equipment first. Anyone need a HK tubed receiver, HK tubed integrated ( Craig rebuilt), or tubed preamp, let me know. Oyster roast Saturday night Why can't they make a coffee machine that heats the coffee sufficiently? Cheers Gents

  2. i guess you all are sleeping already -- good for you, get some rest for the weekend ahead. Steve, say something coffee related… I had a cup of coffee before giving a presentation today at work. I was one of several speakers. I don’t do it often, so i don’t prepare (pretzel logic, huh?). Said a prayer and then started talking. Everyone were all business … except one person … I’ll let you guess who. So, they’re laughing, then crying, then writing home … afterwards, my boss says to me, “you’d better be careful or you’re going to do ALL of these … because you’re great." Then we stopped at Starbucks and i did NOT get a free coffee. Enjoy your sleep gentlemen…pour a cup for me in the morning--it’s my working Friday. Steve

  4. Good evening everyone.... I have been following the boat project with interest, and we NEED photos when it is completed!! The beans around here stay in the KitchenAid grinder jar, seem to be just fine there... The ground beans go into a sealed Mason jar which stays in the refridge for use on the weekends... Todd, we have the SAME coffee maker! Well, mine is a little earlier, the only difference is you have a toggle switch and ours has a momentary knob, which means here is some kind of FET logic switch in the thing?? My next door neighbor has yours exactly and it is the ONLY appliance on the kitchen counters..... She likes an uncluttered look.... Duder, you have a nice looking machine there.... Mr. Coffee has come a LONG way.... My dad STILL has one of the earlier white plastic models and still working perfectly ;0) Ok, that is all..... ....gw

  10. I almost did. Decided to pass on these MC30s offered to me. Had already talked to Craig about a rebuild and his estimate of the resale value would be triple my investment (and that is including his cost to rebuild) -- I was getting the deal of a lifetime. ($600 for the pair). Then i’d have to get a preamp too. BUT, i decided that i’d get more use and more enjoyment treating myself to another guitar. Tubes are pretty to look at; but, so are guitars. So, I’m adding a Taylor to the mix. Started hanging them on the wall; but, now have them on the wall, leaning against the wall, on a bench, leaning against the recliner, laying on the couch ...

  15. Morning Gang Final speakers are installed in the Boat. Total of eight Marine Grade (Chit) speakers, because there is no "Great" marine speaker made. Any speaker that calls itself "Marine Grade" must be complete plastic, and we all know, plastic is Chit. So knowing this i figured id try something different, double the number of speakers to late last night to crank it. It works, if my farm Bud cranks this thing and he aint comin home with any Fish. First cup going down, to be followed by the rest of the pot. :emotion-44: 60s+ to 70s projected, and im going to pizz off a neighbor, wonder who it will be this time ? 17. Alright, Michael, I will start the "hounding". :-) Jubs or K-horns ... which to keep for your 2 channel setup? Jubs can be had new or used again someday if you wanted. And the Jubs you describe, while I am sure are beauties in themselves, they just are not NIB 60th anniversary only 200 pair made serial #7s . . . Etc. I encourage to keep the anniversary K-horns for your premiere 2 channel setup . . . so that I can see/hear them when I come visit you at the House of Klipsch sometime in Indy on one of my visits back home! Those K-horns are beautiful and sonically exciting, in addition to being unique. But you know all that better than me . . . you own them! The only downside, the 60th Anny K-horns NIB are twice the market value of the Jubs. that extra 5K selling the K-horns instead of the Jubs would be tempting . . . but, you would always be saying, "hey, I almost put 60th anniversary K-horns here in my 2 channel setup, but I like these Jubs fine too." So, when you go into your 2 channel room a year from now, will you want to remember you had 60th anniversary K-horns that almost made it in there, or will you be so happy with the Jubs, that you will get the cash and remember them no more? Which pair is easier to forget? Just my 2 cents, Bro. Looking forward to see what you decide. Congrats on the TV score and sounds like you are putting together an awesome HT setup!

Where's the sweaty worn out smiley face? Keep the beans in a glass jar with a cork top. They don't have time to go bad. We've been knocking back 12 cups a day between wifey and me. My biggest challenge is getting and keeping the coffee HOT! Despite 3 temp settings, this pot doesn't brew it hot enough. Zapping it in the microwave way too much.

  21. A few months back I remodeled my "above garage room". New flooring, paint, acoustical panels, can lights, etc. Since then something sounded a little bit mono and kind of thin, but I had made so many changes in my room in a short period I let it go. Well , last night I pulled both of my mains out and sure enough, I had the main speaker input wire out of phase on the left side. How in the world do I go red/negative and black/positive? Maybe because the lighting is so bad up there even though I added 4 can lights? Anyway, I was elated and had a little celebration all by myself right then. I swapped the wires, sat down and immediately the left+right speakers meshed so much better. I popped in in DVDA and ran about 10 watts through them even though the baby was asleep at the other end of the house, yeah I was that happy. I haven't had in phase stereo in months, but the weekend is going to start out much better knowing what I was missing was replenished with the easy swap of two wires.

  30. My 56 lbs package had a safe round trip, but it probably wouldn't hurt to add a little padding to your shipping box. When they had my AVR at the repair facility, I received an e-mail stating that my unit was repaired but had another problem that could be fixed for $$, or they could give me a small trade-in credit towards a new purchase. I replied no thank you, I will live with the problem, just send it back to me. A few days later, I received an e-mail stating they decided to fix the other issue for no charge, and the unit was shipping out that day.

  31. The thread sure has stamina. It seems that I only get to log on a couple times a week and visit and ten pages or more have gone by between visits. One of the books that I’m currently reading is titled, “Watchers” and is a 1987 suspense novel written by Dean Koontz. I don’t usually dream; however, for some reason after reading several chapters of the book, that night I was dreaming that the book was really about Tarheel, Jake and Lady Friend. The story began with Tarheel, a former Delta Force operative, feeling that his life had grown pointless and when out at the beach one day near his home he encounters two genetically engineered creatures that have escaped from a top-secret government lab. One creature turned out to be a golden retriever (although I know that Jake is a mix Shepard/golden retriever) with extraordinarily enhanced intelligence that he befriended and named Jake. The other creature was unknown but appeared to be trying to kill the dog. Later, Tarheel and Jake meet Lady Friend and together they form a nice happy family. It wasn’t long and Tarheel, Lady Friend and Jake found themselves on the run not only from the other creature, but also from federal agents, determined to track down the lab escapees, and a professional assassin, hired to kill various targets to cover up the conspiracy of the two genetically engineered creatures. I need to read a few more chapters; however, good luck in the adventures Tarheel.

  33. Whenever someone post about dvda, I think of something else. Anyways those little things are the ones that make you scratch your head. Your mad that you didn't catch it sooner, but happy its something so simple. I thought my left speaker output went out on my receiver. I was telling my buddy about it at work, he reminds me of the little ones at home who are learning to walk and grabbing everything in sight. Especially knobs, soon as I was home I checked the balance knob and sure enough it was turned to the opposite side. What do you know something simple, woo hoo.

  34. It's starting to sound like the best plan of action for this KP600 system is for me to finish the build out. I do have three Crown MT1200 amps here and numerous other ones, as well as a Rane stereo three-way crossover, that should be able to be configured to a mono 4 or 5 way system. If I can get another one of those and sell one other amp I could build up a complete turn key system for somebody. That way not only could I breathe life back into these behemoths, but hear and tweak them properly, and the buyer could hear them in action. There have been so many questions about them that it just doesn't sound feasible to sell them in current condition. I have a 1700 ft2 facility here, with the purpose being to tinker with speakers - this is the ideal project I have the space, tools, and know-how. Time to get busy.

  36. Correct, spec'd at only 2 channels driven. Not the 7009 here but the 7008. Marantz SR7008 A/V Receiver Test Bench 2 channels continuously driven, 8 ohms (watts @ 0.1% / 1.0% THD): 122.5 / 148.02 channels continuously driven, 4 ohms (watts at 0.1% / 1.0% THD): 195.4 / 216.8 5 channels continuously driven, 8 ohms (watts at 0.1% / 1.0% THD): 101.2 / 111.5 7 channels continuously driven, 8 ohms (watts at 0.1% / 1.0% THD): 68.8 / 82.2 We must assume that since the 7009 is spec'd the same as the 7008 that they would bench very near the same. Bill I have a cliff-notes version of the below at the end. Something to consider, and probably the biggest differentiator between receivers and seperate amplifiers is the abilty to deliver power to different types of loads. Let's take the 200Wx2 into 4 ohms as an example. A resistive load, which is what that bench result you are referencing is absolute cake for an amplifier. Not all 4 ohms, however, are created equal. A 4 ohm resistor has an impedance phase angle of 0deg which is as ideal as it gets. In the bass region, a loudspeaker will tend to creep towards a capacitive load (neg phase angle), and swing from capacitive to inductive (positive) quickly. This is very important because an amplifier HATES driving a capacitance in particular, and second to that is a wildly varying load. You can't drop power across a pure reactance, so if the load of the speaker is more reactive than a resistor (and all loudspeakers are), then that amplifier is going to be to some degree limited in its ability to supply large amounts of current without strain. Were it to do so with reckless abandon, it could either shut down or go into thermal protect. To put it another way, the receiver would have to work harder to deliver what you're asking it to do, so instead...it just doesn't. It dials back the output so that the output is as clean as possible, but not at the power level on the box. The reason is because that impedance phase angle tells you how much power the amplifier is going to have to dissipate, and as far as your amplifier is concerned, a 45deg angle is the absolute worst situation possible. This is where you have maximum resistive and maximum reactive load at the same time. With a 4ohm load at 45deg, your amplifier is dissipating 2x the power than were it a resistor of the same 4ohm impedance. Angles greater (magnitude is implied) than 45deg imply that you're driving more reactance than resistance. In other words, you're turning more power into heat than delivering it to the speaker. These large angles don't occur frequently and when they do, not often in current hungry frequency bands. You take that same 200W into 4 at 0.1% THD from a proper monoblock (frankly most monoblock manufacturers would be ashamed if their 200W amps could only do so at 0.1% THD) or otherwise solidly constructed and designed amplifier, and that 200W into 4 is going to be available when you need it. These strong amplifiers are made to withstand impedance behavior that a receiver is not. So when you hear that dynamic slam from the monoblock setup in the demo room and you can't get that at home, your receiver simply isn't capable of supplying enough current in a short enough time period. More importantly, it's not designed to nor should it be. The receiver knows that were it to have the output devices and power supply of an equivalent 7 or heck 9 channel 150W/ch separate power amp, then it would have the price to reflect that. The receiver then is no longer a cost effective piece of equipment. Long story short: even if you think you have the same power, that's not the entire story. The speaker connected to the receiver is going to determine just how effective it is at transmitting clean power at high levels. Klipsch speakers in particular are very receiver friendly, but that does not mean that your RF7s and RC64 wouldn't enjoy a bespoke amp.

  39. 1% vs. 2% THD for a subwoofer is a meaningless difference. Especially when talking about kilowatt amplifiers, it means that difference shrinks even more. When you get into the 10% region, the conversation truly begins. Those numbers mean nothing without knowing the xmax of the drivers and drones. You need to calculate volume, not area. EDIT, someone just needs to get one of each and drag race them! I can confirm that the Palladium 12" has greater linear excursion than the RSW 15 driver. This is not to say that it is "superior" due to the significant cone area difference. However, the P312 does not disappoint on any front. It produces a hilarious amount of output for its size. When you run two of them (which we do in one of our listening rooms), it becomes extra exciting Thanks for chiming in here. The latest story being spread by the self proclaimed experts is that the Palladiums have most of the cost in the finish. Pretty soon the rumors will be that the Palladiums are below the RF series but just have a pretty finish. I can also confirm that this is a load of garbage. If people knew the complexity, features and thus the price of the woofers alone (which were all 100% custom designed by our chief acoustic engineer), they wouldn't think that for a second. I'm not talking about the sub either. I'm talking on all Palladium woofers be it 7, 8 or 9". On the 312 for instance, the front baffle which looks normal is in fact 3 (yes, 3) layers of heat formed MDF. That silver trim ring which insets the driver so the surround is flush with the front is primarily there to hide that fact. There is nothing cheap or corner cut about anything in Palladium.

When you run two of them (which we do in one of our listening rooms), it becomes extra exciting great idea horrible idea. seaton subs are monsters and would spank both subs you have. they are one of the best commercially available subs for music i have ever heard. Now I get that the Seaton subs is a great idea, but a DD-18 a horrible idea? Come on Scrappy, there is nothing "horrible" about a DD-18. It is a wonderfully accurate and musical sub. It's just not the monster HT sub that the Seaton is best known for. Bill The Velodyne DD-18 and DD-18+ are both phenomenal products. They are very highly respected around here for their performance. You will be hard pressed to find a lower distortion subwoofer on the commercial market with its sonic output capabilities. Data Bass, while informative, does not tell the entire story. I'll let everyone in on a fun fact: us engineers need our competitors to make high quality products that at least match and frankly can hopefully exceed what we're doing at the moment. When you ask "how are they doing that?" and can then apply your own design approach and supersede their performance, that's when you get the best products. This competition is what drives engineering forward. Once you're the leader, and if no one else is close, progress can stagnate. When there is a competitor making something you can truly respect, it pushes you further to leap frog them and give your customers the new greatest product on the market. This is especially important in headphones with the likes of Sennheiser, AKG and Grado. Not a single person in this office would say their performance-oriented products are anything but superb. For loudspeakers, we likewise have brands and engineering principles that we respect. One becomes deluded quite easily otherwise, and the customer ends up losing out.

Good for you for saying no thanks, and a small "good" to them for finally doing the right thing. I bet they've done that before to other people. It wouldn't even surprise me if they bill the customer and then turn around and bill Onkyo for the warranty work.

  45. Just a few shots to get you started. Notice that the KP682 differ from the cinema line KP684 in several important respects. 1. They have nice wheels and handles so they create their own dolly for carting them around. 2. They have real input panels with dual banana and NL4 connectors for professional connections, the 684 only has a cheap barrier strip for terminated wired. 3. I have added delrin 'slides' to the rears for assisting in one person lifts in to trucks, pulling them up carpeted stairs etc. 4. They have heavy duty metal grilles for speaker protection. other shots are of the Rosewood KSB2.1 and a grill-off image of the black CW III.

  46. TRANSPORTATION - We all know this is one of the keys to obtaining good quality Klipsch loudspeakers without trusting our vintage gear to the gorilla service. Here are the opportunities for the Pony Express: Items can be picked up in Indianapolis IN at about any time. My schedule is pretty flexible so with notice I can meet you about any time here at the House of Klipsch. Drool bibs provided. Sometime in the next month, I will travel with truck/trailer to Columbia MO, where I will meet up with Bill Hendrix. He will be traveling from Witchita KS and frequently travels to Dallas TX. So you could pick up at either of those locations or along the way, providing you can work within our time table. Alternately there is an opportunity to fetch the items in Hope Arkansas, as a transport will be going from Indy to Hope just before the planned Employee Appreciation Day. Road trips to New Orleans in March and FL in early May would also be opportunities for personal delivery of smaller (fits in back seat of Accord) items. Please arrange payment and travel well in advance so all arrangements can be made and suitable sized transport vehicles provided. All gear will be gently transported by Klipsch lovers. http://mapq.st/1yQUimo Linky to map

  47. That was an excellent video on the Glock. I have a G17 (9mm), and now I can't wait to get it out and see if I was doing it that way. I am a decent shot with it, but am excited to see if it helps things. Ya'll were talkin about varmint guns in that other thread. I was gonna reply, but since I'm typing I want to throw my favorite varmint gun in the ring. Sadly I sold it to a guy that just HAD to have it. It was a a Ruger M77 6mm Rem with a varmint barrel. That thing was deadly out to 300 yards. I bought it because it had the lowest drop on the ballistic chart at the time. It was a light ballistic, and shot flatter than either the 220 swift of the 22-250. I forget the grain, but I think it was 55 grains. Super big casing behind a wee-little bullet. By now, I'm sure the 6mm has been passed up. As I understand it's about the same as a WSSM 243 casing. just looked it up. The 55 grain could be loaded up to fire at 4086 fps.
