  1. Well I picked up a second SW 115 over the weekend. Thanks to those who gave feedback over the horn loaded subs and custom builds. My wheels will be turning for down the line as more time allows. I was able to get one of these discontinued models for a screaming deal brand new (no shipping!). I came hope and my two year old said "Daddy got a new speaker?!" When we brought it in it shifted to "Daddy brought me a new box!!" Love the raw excitement of a two year old. :-) (see home theater IS good for the whole family!) I have had only an hour to play with it so far. Right away I am so happy with the smoothed out and fuller bass. I walked around the room and the dead zones are full and I'm delighted by that. For kicks I played the airplane crash from Flight of the Phoenix at high but far from max volume. All I'll say is when I went upstairs my wife said she felt motion sick (she was sitting on the floor right above the theater room). :-) That's after all the sound isolation, detached double drywall via track etc.! (I realize bass is far more immune to sound transfer reduction than most frequencies). I know there are better subs out there and heritage is probably a step up from the 7ii's, but I am pleased as punch with this! Thanks again for all the input. I've said this from time to time but I read far more than I post on here and I constantly learn from you all.

  2. Happy Monday Non retirees! We got winter back - sort of. We got some snow but unfortunately we're playing around the freezing line and have to do the rain thing again for a couple of days. No bueno. Snow - no sweat, cold - no sweat, gale force winds - no fun, but no sweat, ice/freezing rain - you can have it. I'm stocked on coffee if we have to stay home so all is well! Oh! And I got a second sub over the weekend so this weather may turn out to be a good thing! (Always a silver lining)

  4. I've never cleaned my coffee pots or espresso machine. I've never run anything through them except R.O. filtered water either. They're clean as a pin. My wife has been using it in her steam iron for years and it still looks brand new. Morning all. Monday after a 3 day weekend is normally no fun. I did get all my attic work done this weekend so I don't have to be up there in the 100+ temperatures that we'll soon have. Coffee was good this morning but I couldn't consume it at my leisure like I've done for the last 3 mornings. As much as I gripe about coming to work, I'm very grateful to have a job. It could be a lot worse.

  5. Evening Gang ChuckAb3 seems to be done with the "Pass-a-round DAC" Dragonfly unit, he PM me as to the return to me, but it's my gift to forum members thinking if they need/want a DAC, get it, use it, and then pass it along. This is my copy to Chuck. Ok Chuck here is the Curse you have taken-on. I gave this(gift) to Forum members, now it's your turn to monitor who ever wants to play with a basic DAC. Hook up with them and mail it to them, like pass it on kind of thing. No hurry, and i dont mean for you to bird dog trying to get it out of your life. Just at your convenience pass it on to someone who will do the same. Sound fair? Mark P.S. you can advertise you have a pass-a-long DAC if you wish, maybe start a thread. Ill post a copy of this in the C&C forum just to give everyone the heads up. $10 bucks to ship USPS is what it cost me.

  6. I had been looking for a subwoofer locally for a while and nothing was really showing up, so I decided to just build my own. I decided to build two dual 12 in vented subs and sell one off to cover the cost of mine. I found a great deal on some brand new a stock drivers from Epik. They appeared to be leftover drivers form when they were still doing business. The drivers had great reviews, it was their amps that seemed to have issue. They have 22mm xmax one way and can handle roughly 600 rms each. They turn out fantastic and sound amazing, but still need more time to break in. No strange vibrations or resonance and no vent noise either. I used a 3/4in oak veneered plywood for the outside, stained black and coated in many coats of a satin polyurethane. They ended up matching my RF-5's quite nicely. MDF was used for the vents and the vents are flared both inside and out to reduce the risk of noise. I don't have a windows computer so thankfully "Mustang Guy" helped me out with what cu ft I'd need for the drivers and what vent size I would need. I took those numbers and designed the boxes form there. With the specs from the drivers, the program thought one dual 12 sub should put out about 118db at 21hz without reaching xmax. The boxes were glued and sealed with PL premium (messy stuff but works well), lined with an acoustic foam, and the subs were bolted in using t-nuts to keep them nice and snug. They were also allowed to sit for about a week while the glue and poly cured before the subs were installed. One box I built is more typical in design, roughly the size and shape of the JL Fathom F212. The other one I did as something more unique. It's a hexagonal box with two smaller vents off to the sides. It look more like an end table and from the back you'd think that's what it was until you saw the drivers. Its more pictures that the forum allows being linked to, so here's a finished photo, and the link to the photo bucket album. Photobucket Link

  7. So I have missed a few days helping dad out and all and we also had to move the motor home, I the wife and the boys are all happy new residents of North Carolina snow and ice on the ground in Md. and its like 60+ degrees here in NC today Still no luck finding the wallet, but applied to renew the license on line so if that works out it should be of little consequence.................turns out pretty much everything else is more or less not needed............ Cheers guys Joe

  8. I use my Rocky for both. It's just a turn of the dial to go from espresso grind to drip. Would you have to move it for each different use? It will give far better grounds than any portable grinder you could find.

  9. That's fair and thank you again, Mark. Any takers? Just send me a PM. Ill keep my eye open for anyone looking to try out a DAC for free, you monitor threads as well, someone will come along.

  11. Glad you mentioned the pot cleaning Mark. Last week I ran white vinegar through the Mr. Coffee and ended up repeating it for most of the day. Still getting build up out several hours later. I guess the filter had been catching most of this before. Yuck! Well I may now have the record for the quickest sale in the Garage forum. Listed my HK A500 integrated amp.....walked Jake to the end of my road, came back and it was sold. I chatted later with forum member Zim. and he seems like a great guy. It was gone through by Craig so I sell it with confidence. Painter coming again this morning at 9:00. Foyer in disarray. Cloudy and moderate today but Wednesday is suppose to hit 75! Ready for spring. Back to dieting....gained 1.2 last two days. You working stiffs.....go out there and make us proud! Fellow retirees....carry on! Cheers Gents

  14. Glad my post can spark such an in depth discussion Only had some listen time with the Scalas today, so no A/B testing, but from what I heard, I like very much. What I noticed right off the bat, HUGE sound stage, and I can listen to the scalas at almost any level without listening fatigue. The detail these guys can produce is amazing! Even at lower listening levels I feel I can still get a very enjoyable experience where with my other speakers it seems I must turn them up a bit higher to do the same thing. So horn loaded bass you say? I love it! So clean, so crisp. I know others have express a disappointment with the lack of lower extension, but dang to me it rocks. With that said, some music I listen to just doesn't have its full effect without some lower extension, so I'm pleased to report that my RSW-15 blends very well with the scalas. Even my wife came in and sat down to listen, and then proceeded to play some of her favorite music

  25. Good afternoon gents..... Lunch time here in the east... Jim, if you want a bur grinder, it will be a bit larger then the blade type (I think that is what you want), they will also, have an output shute to dump the coffee..... (into a container) Mark, I use that same Krupps for spices, well, er, once you do that, probably not good for coffee.... As you all know, we have the KA bur which does a fantastic job and keeps the beans fresh in its own jar... ;0) Back to work here too ....... Have a good one my friends. ........Gary

  29. You mean, like the laundry stuff? Whoa. I use straight white vinegar, and it works great. I run it about halfway through, shut off, let it sit for 15-30 mins, finish the cycle, then do it again, and rinse several times. Like a charm.

  30. Gentlemen, I need a new small electric burr grinder, not too expensive, for my dark roast Chemex pour over brew. I use my wife's Gaggia for espresso, but it's far too big and bulky. Any recommendations?

  41. It's a couple of hours from where I live. When we met I was in Morgantown helping a guy, and Washington PA is 30 minutes from Morgantown. The countdown is 40 minutes at $1600 as I write this. It looks like there are three guys in a bidding war. It will interesting to see if someone swoops in at the last minute. If I had won that 1/2 billion dollar lottery a couple of weeks ago I'd have been all over those Belles.

  42. I'm getting to this thread late in the game, but the sentiment is the same. My prayers and best wishes to you and your family Wake! It's great to hear you are on the mend after such a life altering event. Ps139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. On a lighter note, Youth you did an awesome job capturing Wakes HT and the hospitality of his family. I thought I was going to be perfectly happy with the addition of two more PB 12/2. Your description of Wakes 18s make me wonder what I am missing now. Have a safe trip back

  43. With all of the work we did over the last few days, wake allowed me to use the shower in their master bath that he remodeled. This is not your typical shower. This is one sweet setup! Not only does it look beautiful, and the multiple shower heads feel extremely relaxing, it's got several cool factors. Before jumping into the shower, I loaded up Spotify and connected to his network. Wake installed a dedicated receiver for the bathroom that allows you to connect your phone to the system via Blutooth. Most bathroom sound systems have in ceiling speakers but Shaun's is the first that I have ever seen that had a Klipsch in ceiling PLUS a 10" subwoofer installed in the ceiling! Now it's typical for me to sing in the shower but this was the first time that I have ever danced in the shower. Having clear highs PLUS bass thumping in the shower is pretty stinking amazing. And if that wasn't enough coolness, wake installed a 37" LED TV mounted behind glass to protect from water exposure. Oh yeah......the TV is connected to the Xbox too so Shaun's wife can enjoy playing Shadows of Mordor in the jacuzzi. Now that is a pimped out bathroom!

  44. Yep. I also made the stands more acoustically inert with 150 lbs of lead shot. The feet on the P17b's base unscrew. You just make a transition plate, then go to the hardware and find the proper screw length to go through your transition plate. Then you screw your transition plate to whatever stand, then screw through the transition plate into where the feet were mounted on the P17b. The lead shot matters to me, may or may not to you. I know when I clapped my hands near the metal stands before, I could hear a slight ping. With the lead, they are very inert and very stable.

  46. "I'll give you a hun'ert bucks for the pair, but you've got to bring them to my house and plug them in." +++ First of all, don't let strangers on the internet cause you any grief. Life's too short for that. Second of all, why not share some of your stories here, with your friends? It's Monday, we could all use a laugh, and it will help to keep bumping your ad. That's a great price for your subs, they will go soon enough, but they might sit long enough for you to get a couple more CL stupid buyer stories to post here.
