  4. I've found that the Diana Krall Love Scenes (DTS) and SInatra at the Sands (DVD-A) discs have essentially the same symptom. I had to really tune up the individual channel EQ for each loudspeaker, for each driver channel, and really scrub the overall 5.1 channel gains to get these two discs sounding good and not too reverberant. I now use these two discs as test discs whenever I make a change in the system to check for any irregularities that I may have introduced.

  6. Ok, so I don't drink coffee....and my cables are pedestrian Mogami.... For you coffee lovers, my wife has a girlfriend. The gal has more money than sense. When her mother passed, she received some inheritance. Of this money, she spent $250,000 on a fancier than fancy diamond ring (my wife helped her select the mounting and stone) I digress.... Anyways, she had a fancy coffee machine (Jura Impressa F9) that she was going to replace. Saying something like "I don't even know if it works". My wife saw it and said that SHE'D take it....after all, she's got a husband that can "fix anything" (very tongue in cheek) So it arrived. I found several aspects of this machine annoying. First: I was unable to simply go to the internet to get a schematic of it. Second: it uses Torx head screws. Fine, I have Torx drivers. Third: On the rear of it, the back panel is held on with four oval head screws. Not a slot, not a phillips but an essentially round (slightly ovaled) pin that sticks out. It requires a special screw driver. Fourth: They wanted something like $15/$20 for the special screw driver, they also wanted something like $40 for the manual My wife said this was an approximate $1,500 coffee maker and I should go ahead and get the screw driver and manual. I said I don't need the manual....taking it apart is easy. I'll know once I get it apart if I need the manual to figure out how to get it back together. I'll wait. As for that ornery oval head set of screws.... I've got a tight grip and some good pliers that will bite onto them and I'll let persistence prevail. Ok, so I get the machine apart. Seems it was leaking in several places. Cutting to the chase, the front of the machine has the output spouts. Behind them was a pile up of coffee "muck" preventing the liquid from simply passing through to the cup below. Cleaned that out, put it back together and it was still leaking. There is a pressure regulator in there, much like you might have on a propane tank though of course, much smaller. This was leaking. Ordered a new pressure regulator ($50) slapped it all together and it works like a charm. Didn't have to buy a service manual, didn't have to buy the special oval head wrench and the wife is absolutely nutty over her new coffee. Says she looks for excuses to make some every day. This thing holds the beans and water so with a touch of a button, will take it from the grinder to the cup. She would have never bought something as fancy as this. (nor would I for her) She is however, in coffee heaven right now.

  7. Hey folks... on a fast (for me) track today but wanted to check in. Outdoor carpeting project looks great. Should be good for many years. Flip flopping week for weather so painting projects are on hold for a few days. Mark..try some of that crab on the banana split. You might pioneer a new food trend! Later ..............

  8. I can see the expense of going to the better versions of Audyssey (Rudy has and has reported much better performance than the out-of-the-box version) if you change your setup configuration fairly often and don't have active crossovers. I also note that there are many folks that are seemingly hesitant to use REW and a calibrated microphone. However, my real satisfaction has been to deeply understand what is happening in-room acoustically by using REW. I feel that I wouldn't have achieved the setup performance that I have by having Audyssey do it for me, and certainly wouldn't have understood what I do now. (YMMV.) To drift back to the topic of this thread, I've found that many hard-to-listen-to multichannel discs do much better once you get the kinks out of your setup. I've also been amazed at how discerning our ears (my wife's and mine) have become once everything gets dialed in. That work getting everything set up has led to my excursions using Audacity to remaster most of my two-channel music. And yes...most two channel music needs to be "unmastered" from what those mastering bozos have done to it -- especially my classical discs and solo instruments--like solo piano or violin, etc. It's actually a crime to see and hear what they've done and why all the tinkering in the world with our setups won't make these tracks sound like real life - you wind up having to remaster--trust me. I'm up to about 4000 tracks remastered now, and have about 2-4 times that many left to do in my collection. I've learned a whole lot thus far. Interestingly, the tracks that I usually don't have to do anything to are from multichannel discs. That's a significant reason why I've preferred listening to them over two-channel tracks. The problem is--there aren't very many truly multichannel discs out there (that haven't been "upsampled" and synthetically divided into 5.1 from two channel recordings).

  10. You can use an extraction tool to get the dts files out, then use foobar2000 to convert them to flac. I think I used DVD decrypter in the past to extract the dts audio, but can't remember now.

  23. The scoop is these are very good speakers and the price is good too, assuming they are in decent shape. I use the KLF-30;s in my HT. The main diff between the 20's and 30's from what I can tell is that the 30's use 2 12" woofers and the 20's use 2 10" woofers. Some folks prefer the 20's.

  24. Ford Raptor Boy thinks his truck is ready for the Big Time right off the showroom floor. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the video..... watch Raptor Boy's suspension collapse, funny as hell. http://holyhorsepower.com/5-proven-methods-to-put-your-off-road-vehicle-to-the-test/?utm_source=OutB&utm_medium=Discov&utm_campaign=OutOffroad Good thing he had those bead-lock wheels and really cool looking lite weight bumpers, or it could have been worse.

  25. Hey guys, New member of the Klipsch community. I bought the RF-62 IIs in November and now have the RC-62 and RS-52s. I love the speakers so far. Unfortunately my Yamaha 5860 just died after having it for 11 years. I have read a lot of reviews on here and AVS but the more I read the more overwhelmed I get. I would appreciate any help. I am currently debating the Denon 3100W new or possibly a Marantz 5009 refurbished (I know the 3100W has the better EQ but lots of people seem to prefer the 5009). I am very hesitant to buy something refurbished. I see lots of recommendations to accessories4less. I just want something that is going to sound great and last me a long time. 90% movies/TV, 10% music. Thanks in advance!

  26. I never liked Audyssey MultiEQ XT. Audyssey XT32 is much better, but I still wasn't satisfied with it. The good thing is newer AVR's have an "Audyssey Flat" setting to bypass the HF roll off. I don't know if it bypasses the midrange compensation, but this is something the Pro kit allows you to disable. The Audyssey Pro kit + license works great for me, but adds a lot to the cost. There's also SubEQ HT on newer AVRs that independently adjust both subs, then calibrates them together. This works great for me too.

  28. Pull your mids and check them before ordering. I pulled apart my klf-30s and they already had phenolic diaphragms. I guess it may depend on when they were built during the production run.

  30. I think most people consider it dampening of the frame like the frame is making some kind of noise, where I think it's stopping the sound wave coming off the cone from hitting the hard surface of the spoke and bouncing back at the cone and either creating a second sound in the cone or mucking up the waves coming off the cone. much like when you yell into a canyon and it hits a hard surface and comes back to you as an echo.

  34. no fair making fun of dead people. It was probably the “Jackass” that kept us alive. Take the stuff from the bottom of a wine barrel and run through a still -- strongest stuff you’ll ever drink. We called it the Jackass and even the old folks did shots of it. Fun times.

  35. BTW, the correct nomenclature for those Cornwalls is Cornwall II Decorators....I know that sounds confusing but they were called Cornwall II, not verticals. AND...there is no definite date at which that layout ended because we built mates to singles in the same configuration YEARS after that layout was no longer the standard production. I outta know, I built dozens of them!!....but fir was no longer used, just birch...yours are fir.

  39. Blu-ray discs are by far the best medium for video and sound quality, still. Very recent BD's can be found at your local Value Pawn and Cash America for less than $7.00 and many less than $5.00. Even Target will often mark down semi recent titles to $5.00. Bill

  43. For WAF, I would build some nice grilles. Big black drivers tend to not be wife friendly. edit: Also, for the top side edges, I would use a 1/2" roundover bit and a router. The grille frame face would have the same 1/2" roundover.None of the back or bottoms would be rounded over. Like this sort of:

  48. going off of audio memory, its easy for me to say i loved my rc-64 until i heard a better center. then after that my rc-64 just seemed a little nasally to me. the kl-650 did not share that attribute at all. to me the kl-650 is a step up if you are a HT guy over music. i know metro prefers the 64 for multichannel music, and if i ever listened to that i probably would have as well. but to me a center is designed for voices. so kl-50 had my vote for home use UNTIL NOW..... this center is a monster in size and sound. it is clear as a whistle and to me easily the best center klipsch makes for home use. one day i will take it down stairs and find a way to try it out against a 904. also have a buddy wanting to take it to his house to try against his legacy silverscreen HD. which until i got this was the best center i have heard that isn't monstrous and hideous to look at. now when i go to his place i think they are about on par with each other but hard to tell until they are actually side by side.
