  1. I was listening to the K-horns last night and have decided to pull them off the market. I must of had a case of temporary insanity. After we sell the Michigan house, we will be looking for a house in Florida big enough to accommodate them.

  3. Not only can UPS destroy a Nuclear Containment Vault, they also cannot seem to get the correct address when delivering packages to me! Three times now, they have delivered packages to a house one street over from where I live. The numbers on our houses are the same but the streets have completely different names. The first two times were inexpensive items. This time it was an $800 Yamaha integrated amplifier, gone! The incompetent driver did admit to dropping it off at the wrong house. He said he was going to go to the house and check but I haven't heard back from him, imagine that. I did go over there three times and no amplifier. I got to know the people that live there but, naturally, they are away on vacation. So now I have to wait at least 8 business days to resolve this. The next time I order anything, I will ask which shipping company. If it's UPS, they just lost a sale. I am partially to blame. I ordered the amp from Crutchfield who didn't offer a direct signature for delivery with free shipping. On an item that expensive, I should have insisted on it. Sorry for the rant, I'm just really pissed off!!!

  4. Made it to Rodney's Place in Bodcaw, AR yesterday evening around 7:30. Lonny (Kevin Harmon's) friend got in yesterday too! Seems he was recruited to help out with work week! Stayed up till about 2:30 am hanging out with the regulars! Dtel is still snoozing. Looks like even a work week at Rodney's Place involves some degree of partying. . Any of you that might want to ride out for the weekend let me know. Rodney asked me who else was coming??? LOL.

Suppose to get the Volvo back in for it's 2 week checkup to change oil again and correct any problems if any.with the new old motor. Guess I will do it next Tuesday as Mondays I sleep after work weekend. It is almost like hide and watch to see if it happens. Nancy may have her spies looking in on me. Oh well, I may go outside and crank the lawnmower.

  15. Mahler's Resurrection Symphony excerpt, played by the 80 horns of the Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps. The Cadets probably have the best hornline in Drum Corps International (DCI) competition this year. Play it LOUD, Klipsch speakers are made for drum corps. The sound will melt your face with the sound of pure, luscious, brass playing. There will be a 50 second warmup, then Mahler! +++ If you're interested, tune in about 1:27:30 to the end, to see how Leonard Bernstein and the London Symphony Orchestra treats this section.

  16. I want to start by saying I fully expect this to get EMOTIONAL , but no reason we can not stay civil Heres my 2 cents The only advantage I see speakers have is SOUND STAGE, and maybe Impact in that hit you in the chest sorta way (for me sound stage is a big advantage I love a 3D sound stage) IME... Headphones allow the listener to get more intimate with the material which opens up more Nuance, Detail, Clarity, Background, breath, Air, Seperation, pretty much every aspect of the material is more evident through Headphones; I am even getting to the point where I like the Impact on Headphones you may not feel it in your chest but you can certainly hear the sound of the notes better........................... There is the aspect of WAF & $$$ which cannot be overlooked, a superior headphone setup will easily fit on a desk and cost less than 1/4 what a decent floor standing system will cost So let the banter begin

  18. In a nutshell it is a media library, you store your library of music, video and photos with it, and it offers a lot more options to customize, it also has a lot more features than say WMP I mainly use it as my Music player, and It was much easier (after the learning curve) to get my 20,000 files in order and under 1 codec (flac) all tagged with the meta data If you are thinking about ripping a cd collection and want it all st up in a nice library mode with tons of options I highly recommend it with 1 caveat you need to at least be comfortable with a computer

  21. Folks who ordered kits (and it has been delivered to you) - did you get the "You'll Receive Your Try-On Kit Today!" email? I think at least one of you probably got it the day after the kit was delivered due to a system hiccup - the end result is you get an extra day out of it because that email is sent on what the system thinks is "day 0" - and day 0 is supposed to be the day it was delivered to you. :-) This is a brand new program that we are testing so I want to be sure we know what's working and what isn't before we take it offline and retool using what we've learned. Thanks again everyone!

  22. I had this happen once when I ordered a bunch of Neo magnets, the ups driver dropped them at the house just down the street. When I recieved the email conformation that they had been delivered I went to my porch and nothing. I called UPS immediately and told them what's up and they called their driver out on the road, he said he delivered them to the white house with the white mailbox, I told them I have a gray house with a black mailbox. He went back to the house and guess what, they never saw the package, cops showed up 2 hours later and arrested the P.O.S. neighbors and UPS had to replace my order through the company I had ordered through.

  24. I still haven't figured out how/what to do with them but I did countersink the mount acres on both the top and bottom of the speaker since the screws were sticking out and I was afraid it would Mar something. I found it interesting that they came from the factory like this, they even have metal screw sleeves for the screws to sink into. I also had to vacuum out one of the dust caps and then decided to take a nakey picture.

  25. Dtel - You're right. Some products just stand out. It's almost like a sirens song - drawing you closer to ****** the cash outta your wallet. :D As an aside, I think it's awesome how you involved the fam. with the speaker auditioning process. etc - It's good to see a P-39f's owner. As for Harman International: Their methodology isn't much better. Sure, they level match, use a better switching interface, and hire employees who are trained to pick up on non-linear frequency behavior - but when you get right down to it - their conveyer belt is nothing more than a line of speakers that are connected to a singular component system. Now, if you're looking to design a fantastic all-around loudspeaker, then this is a great way to help you achieve that goal. But that testing methodology won't give you a true understanding of what the competition brings to the table. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure those Revel speakers sound way better than everything else on their conveyer belt. A fact that Harman proudly demonstrates every time somebody drops by for a listen. But... what do you think would happen if they took those Martin Logans, B&W's, and Maggies off of that conveyor belt and put them in a proper listening space? Heck... let's up the ante and find the best position for those speakers within a room and then connect them to equipment that best suits their character. Hmm. Methinks those Revels will no longer be a unanimous visitor favorite. Anyway, maybe I'm bias. I've put a lot of time into reviewing Hi-Fi gear, and one of the first things I've learned is that you should never purposefully disadvantage anything when comparing one product to another. I firmly believe that before you pass supreme judgement on a Hi-Fi component, you should get to know it's idiosyncrasies and then cater to it's needs to the best of your ability. Then, and only then, will you get a solid idea of what it, and other components like it, bring to the table.

  32. Back during the "Golden Age of Stereo" people were actually proud of their woofers pumping. Speaker grills were removed so that all could witness the woofer cones jumping in and out. I once saw a salesman actually using that as a selling point. I walked over and said, "Do you know that can damage the woofers?", then pushed the low cut filter. The motion stopped, and I walked away chuckling.

  36. A little while back I put these speakers up for sale but, I did not try hard to sell them. I just didn't have a space that I wanted to use them in. I have extra rooms but, they wouldn't get much use in another room. So, I put them back in with the HT setup. I hate having gear not being used. I love the Heritage sound and can't stand reading thread about some of the different Heritage speakers and have good pair sitting idel, lol. The transparency between the midrange and bass is just exceptional. These are perfect for the type of jazz that I prefer and extra wooferage would actually diminish the quality of the midrange. I also missed not seeing the Yaquin VK 2100 tube amp not lit up. It's funny how these small things add to the listening experience. This post is like Shakespears', Much Ado About Nothing, lol.

  37. You can build the cabinet from salvaged materials and you can find a used set of K402 and you can buy used woofers over time and end up with a pair of these for a lot less than new. You can builds the cabinets so the woofers are four in a row single height that will make your 45" height restriction. Peavey FH1 or SP1 can be had for very cheap if you look. https://www.google.com/search?q=peavey+sp1&biw=1266&bih=850&tbm=isch&imgil=MxwRmSyy71bgYM%253A%253BdWzk5nU3M-PWXM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fen.audiofanzine.com%25252Ffull-range-pa-speaker-cabinet%25252Fpeavey%25252FSP1%25252Fmedias%25252Fpictures%25252Fa.play%25252Cm.205379.html&source=iu&pf=m&fir=MxwRmSyy71bgYM%253A%252CdWzk5nU3M-PWXM%252C_&dpr=1&usg=__T7fzyCatHrZYr30Fz4SPQtUL8ZI%3D&ved=0CCoQyjc&ei=CHSfVbWdE4LN-AGEqLCIBQ#imgrc=MxwRmSyy71bgYM%3A&usg=__T7fzyCatHrZYr30Fz4SPQtUL8ZI%3D https://www.google.com/search?q=peavey+fh1&biw=1266&bih=850&tbm=isch&imgil=YoRkjZJpbF35PM%253A%253B0YHEi8uEzaASLM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fen.audiofanzine.com%25252Fsubwoofer%25252Fpeavey%25252Ffh1%25252Fmedias%25252Fpictures%25252Fa.play%25252Cm.87547.html&source=iu&pf=m&fir=YoRkjZJpbF35PM%253A%252C0YHEi8uEzaASLM%252C_&usg=__8pWmSY4PEotXYNzFNGRXVZr9tEw%3D&ved=0CCgQyjc&ei=fnSfVYX-Lcns-AHzi7WYBQ#imgrc=YoRkjZJpbF35PM%3A&usg=__8pWmSY4PEotXYNzFNGRXVZr9tEw%3D

  38. gee why do they need a catapult on an aircraft carrier? if all they really need is a conveyor belt? So wind tunnels only really need a conveyor belt not wind. Since when do spinning wheels provide lift? ok so you are flying in space in your coupe de ville at the speed of light and you turn the headlights on, do you see them?

  39. it sounds like you habe a plan so why not buy a beater set of LaScala and knock up a riser mod with vents and see what you think. Of the three speakers LaScala Belle and FH1 the FH1 is the largest and it edges out the other two with none of their problems You can port any of them if that is what you want to do. The riser mod should get you usable bass into the upper 30 Hz range. The throat size of the LaScala is perfect if you make it larger or smaller you will diminish the performance. These speakers are limited by their length and mouth size that's it. If you want lower extension then you need a longer horn and a larger mouth. You cannot compare an A7 with a LaScala. If you want more then something like one of the Beck designs or the University horns ought to get you where you want to go. As I suggested before look into the Azure style horns there are a number of them available. I can't tell what it is that you want but you can look and listen and eliminate what you don't like or want and that will help you to figure out what you do want. What you seem to be asking for won't come cheap and it won't come tiny. You will have to fill in the blanks for yourself. How about a pair of these? 40. I agree with your assessment, spot on. We do see a lot of Klipsch and LS in the SLC area, so there are other LS's that are available for that local market. A thousand dollars would be the top for a pristine set with no issues and the capacitors upgraded/updated. After about 20 years the caps are in need of replacement as the sound will degrade and there is a chance of them leaking. A sale of $600 is fair to both and they will sell quickly at that price. If you hold out for the right buyer $800 is not out of the question but it may take some time to move them. At $1000 I think you will hanging on to them for quite a while.

  44. That's true, it wasn't perfect, I would guess the Khorn was in the corner because it needs a particular position to even slightly sound as designed with the other less so. I have heard the palladiums before, more to the sides but away from the back and side walls a little and there was not much of a difference at all in sound from the position in that pic. The Rf-7's had the worst position in that pic, (imo) and to be honest of those three speakers I have the least listening time with the RF-7's than either of the others over the years. Your right not the best comparison for judging them if you were looking to buy, but they also know everyone there could get a very good feel for each individual design and differences just by considering the group. Just being there kind of puts everyone in the "not normal, or average" group for comparing speakers, I say not normal because most everyone there has many years chasing what they think sounds best to them. And sometime just not normal period. Even considering the different placements it was a good comparison, much closer to optimal sound for each than you would ever think looking at the pic. Not perfect but easily a fair test. It was just a press of a button to switch speakers instantly at the same volume which helps a lot. I noticed you have RF-7 ll's nice choice, you would have really been proud of how the RF7's sounded compared to the others. Considering prices of all three, and room requirements for the Khorn to be optimal, adding fairly easy room placement of the 7's at about one third cost of the Palladium's, they did very well. I mean you do have to consider everything when buying and trying to make it work in your room. One last thing, that room for whatever reason does sound good, don't know if it's the shape or the ceiling or just being full of sound absorbing people but to me it does sound good.
