  1. Hear you there Mark.................... Even the K'horns are a bit of a bear to move around single handedly, for which I use a hand truck! They have to sit on their SIDES on the truck which is risky and because they are two wide, and also, the top cabinet MUST come off to reduce the height around the hallway and door corners....what a pain, but mine are moved for the final time thank goodness! Ok Chuck, lucky for you..........NOW, my neighbors across the street to the EAST, whom I have NOT talked to in an age caught me just as Istarting to mow the lawn. (soon after, a storm came in and put a hault to all of that!!) Anyway, they had questions. First off, they commented on the MUSIC they have been hearing. (I wasn't aware it was reaching all they way over to THEIR home!!!) But, they love what they hear, mostly laid back jazz and good New Age stuff as you all know... So, the wife and mother in law wanted to check out the system. Up the deck we all went and they were amazed. So, now, they want a system for their very large, raised, tile on concrete patio which faces out toward the woods... Also, they want me to do landscape lighting for them as well... So, we will get together and draw up plans for the whole deal... Also have landscape lighting in the works for another neighbor to our north for uplighting 3 trees in the front garden. They are waiting for the electrician to lay in a permanent underground AC line and weather proof duplex into the garden for my use with the power supplies etc. Never ends... But there is NOT a single neighbor I don't get along with which is wonderful... Right now, writing you all, finishing up a 4th and final MUG of Melitta coffee , black with a hint of 'Sugar in the Raw'..... More later.... .........enjoy the day.... ........Gary

  4. What are you listening to mark, EAW ?? or MWM ?? or wifes K-Horns Been passively watching your sale of the EAW.s Big Ole Speakers are hard to sell I had a time with my Edgar Horn Titans and Seismic subs, ended up parting out the mid range cabinets and selling the top horns drivers and crossovers seperate EAWs at this time, in the last few days iv got those critters listed everywhere but the Bay. Really do not "Need" to sell them, it's just that here in this house "The Mancave" it's either EAWs or MCMs, there is NO room for both. The MCMs are out front in the wifes garage, and will stay there till these EAWs are out of the cave. Ya got to remember these critters are 500Lbs, EAWs as well as the MCMs, when i move speakers, iv got to get neighbor(s).

  5. Hope we get to try out the Klipsch headphones next! Afternoon all I have checked out the Klipsch line of headphones and earphones and I hate to say it but there QC is lacking at best, tons of stories about poor cables, failures etc... after short periods of ownership. Though there is a warranty who needs the headache. That said I would love to see Klipsch put the EFFORT into a nice pair of over ear phones. To me it just seems they are attempting to take advantage of the head fi fad while it lasts (I dont blame them after all they are historically Speaker based and they do offer some of the best speakers on the planet) I really liked the offer chad made of the loaners but alas in ear phones and me dont get along, after about 10 minutes my ear canals start itching and I have to remove the phones There were no overears in the offer that I saw

  6. Morning folks....oops it's after 12:00 here. In from the yard....mowing, edging, blowing, gutter cleaning. Shower felt very nice. There are some beautiful rosewood khorns 2 hours from here in excellent shape for $2500. Wish I had another music room. LF is doing yard work at her place and then off to the pool. Jake is "resting his eyes". I'm thinking about lunch. Have a great weekend retirees and cheese chasers alike! Cheers Ladies and Gents

  12. Snag anything cool at any shows? I don't have much. Got a drumstick from Sheryl Crow, a guitar pick from the Gin Blossoms, three guitar picks from Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies including one he actually used and the others those mass produced autographed ones, autographed CD from Revis when they just came out with their song on the Spiderman soundtrack, had my picture taken with Sheryl Crow, also with Aaron Lewis, almost got backstage with Digital Underground until they figured out I didn't have any weed on me.... So what have you collected?

  14. I think I'm going to have a new favorite performance after April 8, 2016. I managed to get tickets for David Gilmour in Chicago. Really excited to see this show because he is only doing four shows in North America. Anyone else here on the forum going?

  15. A ton of stuff, some from shows, some from representing them. Dixie Chicks signed a gave me a guitar for helping one of them out, some picks, a lot of stuff from Bob Weir who I have know many years. Van Morrison played in small clubs all over the Bay Area and I got some stuff from him. Saw Jethro Tull with Garymd and I got him Martin's set list to commemorate a great night. Better than anything tangible, I have the memories which I wouldn't trade for anything, Travis

  16. Guitar pick from Rick Nielson, he had a way of flicking them across the stage, pretty amazing. Drum stick from Edwin McCains drummer. I did party with Van Halen before they were famous. I was 15 and their first album just came out. My buddy owned a record store. They were promoting their album, my buddy had a keg in his storeroom.

  22. He told me i can say no without hurting his feelings and offered to help pay the airfare. He already owns a house there, so i won’t have any lodging expense either. He just asked me to “think about it.” Which i said i would consider it … if it sounds like a time of year that my lungs won’t be mad at me--I’m up for an adventure. Plus, he said his house is 300 yards from the local hospital. Thank you for the voice of reason though--i need to hear that as i’m impulsive; but, also fearful. Which i guess means I often do what i shouldn’t and let fear/concerns keep me from doing some things that i probably should be doing. It’s not easy being me.

  30. While I have never heard the Lascala II I have owned the original Lascala and Klipschorns. The difference in reproduction is in the low end, as Chris said. I suppose the Lascala II is a little more capable in this regard with a thicker MDF? But nothing in the price range can touch the Klipschorns in the lower end when properly placed, IMO. That horn woofer is just sublime with its accuracy and tightness.

  31. You really don't need a Mac tube amp to have clarity...but using something like a better quality class D amp (like a B&O ICEPower amplifier) would increase the clarity of presentation over typical class A/AB amplifiers. One of the easiest ways to increase clarity of presentation is to treat the room with absorption pads/panels near the midrange horns or either the Khorn or the La Scala II (if placed near a corner or wall). Also, placing some thicker absorption material across the top of the cabinet top hats will also help to control early reflections from the collapsing polar midrange horns found in both designs. Also note that Khorns don't require corners: PWK used false corners with his Khorns in his home.

  32. Funny--I saw them in ’81 as well. Yeah, I’ve met Brian a few times--he’s a cool dude. He helped me get a guitar that i was having trouble getting. Met his guitar tech last summer too--another cool guy.

  33. I was hoping you would be taking me, right? I'll pay parking and beers! not sure what you guys pay for beer in Chicago--but that offer in Los Angeles…I’d be the one making out on the deal….last time i was at the Hollywood Bowl, beers were $12 Right! I will bring the flasks. I haven't been to a show at a large venue in years. Most recently The House of Blues for Robin Trower and Led Zep2 a LZ tribute band. Beers there were like 5 or 7 bucks for a 24 ounce can.

  36. Please DO NOT sand them with a sander....go to Home Depot/ Lowe's/ Menard's/ Walmart....which ever is the best for you ....buy 15 minute chemical stripper....Paint scapper( the one I got the blade came down from the handle on a slight angle( Walmart $5.00) got some kind of blue stripping pads with the plastic handle (Walmart $4.00) a couple more blue replacement stripper pads (Guess where...the W store again).. Oh yea rubber gloves...not the doctor kind ...the science class kind...the W store again...cant remember how much?? The stripper pads ...say they will strip all sorts of S... but they will not harm the wood...saw them ...said WTF....worked great. I put the gloves on my hands ...the stripper on the wood and went to cut the lawn...came back 20 minutes later...scraped the black lacquer off...came off kind of spottie...put some more stripper on .....fired the lawnmower back up...came back 15 minutes later again went over that side again this time using the blue stripper pads in a circular motion....you know what's next...bada bing bada bang...no more black lacquer...one side done... I did this over and over again....till I was done cutting the lawn.....What is it they say about the definition of insanity???...My wife thinks I am When all done ....next take lacquer thinner and a S... load of paper towels and wipe them off....Ah ...nothing like the smell of lacquer thinner on a hot day cutting the lawn...don't forget the cold beverage of your choice...after having SO much fun I washed them down a damp towel.. Waited 2 days went over them again with 0000 steel wool and some more lacquer thinner....good stuff...the paper towel and the OLD damp towel thing again... Then sanded by hand 220 then 400.... could have been worse...could have just been watching TV.... The worse part for me of course the W store

  37. No souveniers from shows for me. No wait…I do have a, not sure what to call it, it’s not a poster; but, it’s larger than a photo…anyway it is of YES’ latest album cover. The band all autographed it (very special now that Chris Squire has left us). Back in my married day, after seeing The Guess Who, my wife wanted me to go ask one of the guys for a guitar pick--i didn’t know any of them…so i said, “they’ll give one to you because you’re a chick.” So she walks over and asked -- and was given one. I have four boxes of 3D stereo cards of photos taken during Queen shows. If you are old enough and remember Viewmasters from the 60s--that’s like a stereo card. Brian May has tons of 3D photos -- he always had a camera with him while touring. He may be selling them now, i’m not sure. Anyway, he was nice enough to autograph four boxes of them for me…i would snap a photo and post it; but, they’re stored up in the closet with a ton of junk in the way.

  38. You think you might be old when; ‘You think it is cool when you wake up and realize that all parts are still in working order, then give a hearty "thank you" and act just like you did the day before.’ ‘You remember your neighbors when they were old, wrinkled, burned out, tired, arthritic.....but not you, well you get the point.’ ‘Fairly soon, the government will want to send you a check each month for doing nothing, how cool is that?’ ‘You are old; however, you remind yourself that the Queen of England has been on the throne longer than you are old.’ You know you are old when you start asking yourself; 'What are my chances that I would break my hip if I fell?' 'Is it normal that I'm making more trips to the bathroom than I used to?' 'My sex drive is the same as it was 20 years ago, isn't it? 'I keep misplacing my keys, should I be worried?' 'What is the best way to control my weight? Dr. Oz? Anybody?' 'Should I be concerned that I'm having problems concentrating?'

  41. one of my co-workers farted today … even though it wasn’t a secret, I don’t know why i told you guys that. Maybe laughing at farts keeps me young. Oh yeah, i also like to see people trip. NOW before you vote to ban me…i don’t want them to get hurt and once i find out they are ok, i laugh. Ever see the clip of President Ford falling down the steps when exiting Air Force One…that was funny! The best part was when he was at the podium afterwards…he claimed his wife pushed him. for the record, i fell down some steps at work last week and YES i laughed at myself.

  42. Worded exactly like the THX sales pitch from the early 80's. Now the question is 30 years later, how many people believe that it's still relevant material? I have (4) ceiling speakers for the use of a Atmos track and it does sound cool. You are gonna see most speaker vendors offer "modules" to be placed on top of others and you will hear the paid experts rave about how much better the modules are than a ceiling mounted speaker, for one reason, much easier to add modules than try and fish wiring in a existing built-out home. The masses will go with the modules. And the FR stuff is just marketing. IMO

  44. regarding the Karlson tube waveguide, a good start is to make one the size of Transylvania Power Company's "The Tube" - 1 inch diameter, ~5.3" long, a 0.125" starting gap at its throat and a half-ellipse pattern - they are normally tilted up or down from horizontal as theres a mix of two directivites - - I'm not sure what Faerber accomplishes with a long tube other than the ability to keep time and have the tube protrude through a round midhorn's wall. It would take a few tubes and measuring to find out. Paper could be used a proof of concept. a wider baffle at the compression driver could offset some loss on the low end due to small dimensions invovled

  45. The "hate our freedoms" doesn't work for me. I see many Christians that are native citizens that hate our freedoms just as much. Just look at FB posts. Most are not out killing people, but they wouldn't mind if someone started killing gays or anyone else that doesn't agree with their take on religion. We have become a country of extremes. I used to drive by Elohim City a lot. Radical Christians with armed guards at the road. Remember OKC? It is not just Muslims we need to be concerned with. Besides, we have very little freedom left in this country. A "War on ___" is the mantra of the politicians. This policy of using government force to bend the population to the will of whatever party is in power is radicalizing our own population. I am just glad I am old enough that I won't have to live in what we are leaving to our children and grandchildren.

Found out he was from the class of 72 at the same school, a year ahead of me and the wife. Did not recognize him, but we knew a lot of the same people, so he had to be for real. Man he looked old, I went home and looked at myself in the mirror, am I that old looking and cant even see it? drible drible drible
