  1. Good morning all. Not much going on here. Mainly just checking in. I did attend our local audio society meeting on Saturday. It was the 5th anniversary of the club.

  2. Greetings! Been getting emails and messages from both forum members and people in real life checking on me. Seems that my self-imposed exile from society has been noticed. Figured I should force myself to break out of this melancholy and say something. I’m alive and secluded in an undisclosed location. Finally picked up a guitar on Saturday and again yesterday. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and that your New Year is off to a great start. May be back later … I’m getting tired of talking to myself. Regards, Steve

  7. I kind of agree. Me personally, if I'm going to spend 20 bucks on flowers to send to a woman, it's going to be for my wife, or my own grandmother who is also in the nursing home. Preferably at least somebody who I have met before, or at least knew existed before this thread. If that makes anybody sick then I'm sorry. If there is a real financial need for something, or if we start taking up collections for the University of Arkansas scholarship that Paul and Valerie started which Valerie apparently upped as recently as 3 years ago, or something else tangible and of substance, preferably of the tax deductible type, then I'll gladly donate. Ms. Valerie has contributed a substantial amount of money to Paul's alma mater, New Mexico State University and continues to fund various academic programs. This lady has probably donate more money that most of us combined to higher education. I apologize to any of you that may be offended by the manner in which this subject was brought to light. On my behalf there was no offense intended. I simply would like to make the 100 year old widow of PWK feel the genuine friendship and caring that I believe exists here. Those of us that HAVE had the pleasure of meeting her can attest to her feisty independence in the past. Without a doubt her independence has been compromised and some of us just believe this is a way to lift her spirits. By all means, if you don't feel lead to contribute, DON'T! It's not like you will be singled out, as the flowers and other gifts will be from the Klipsch Forum members as a whole! I'm am going to ask those of you that do not wish to donate, or have anything positive to comment to please refrain from commenting on this thread or any other thread relating to Ms. Valerie. I really don't care for the negativity and it's an insult to those of us that honestly care. Thank you for your understanding and your COOPERATION! Christy

  8. Happy Monday all. Trying to catch up on the last couple of pages. Pretty good weekend but uneventful in our neck of the woods, aside from watching the Broncos pull one out over a really good Steelers team. Chuck .... that looks like a beautiful place to build a 2d home with LF. Best of luck on that. Have a good week folks. Back soon...........

  9. Morning gang. I had my breakfast shake (not a coffee drinker, I like the smell, don't like the taste) Winter has a hold of us now. The temp is 0, windchill is -20. If it's cold where you are, stay safe and warm.

  12. Some things that I have done to my sound system, Thanks to everyone here who took time to help. New crossovers , horn gaskets, angled risers. Thanks to Bob Crites. Woofers turned 180 ,thanks to Moray James, Good wires ,a gasket between the horn and the motor board for the squaker and tweeter for damping, many and various avr tweaks . Speaker placement. Room treatments. I believe this is an ongoing adventure. Thanks To the many interesting individuals who have a plethora of knowledge and experience of/with audio equipment. I also learned how to spell Heresy (Hershey) lol. I hope this wasn't to curt, lol. Sent from my SCH-I435 using Tapatalk

  15. Of all things.... I have never ever concerned myself with my LaScalas being stolen, ever. 36 years, through college and several moves afterwards in some apartments where the word got out.... I figure if someone wants them bad enough and is man enough to grab them and take them he's probably a bad-azz that I'd rather not contend with unless I had a .45 in my hand.

  16. No I expected the Chorus speakers to blow away the KG4s. But initially when we played them we did not get a WOW these 90 pound speakers blow away the much smaller and easier to carry KG4s. So I was disappointed to the point of thinking i'm going to sell these things. To me if they are going to be a pain in the rear to move and back breakers they better perform. I am guessing the old midrange or tweeters might have been in bad shape. With the new tweeters and midrange along with port tuning gave them a much better sound. So If you get an old set of speakers you never know if they are performing as good as when they were new. This upgrade on the chorus made more of a difference than it did on my KG4s now they sound more like a $4,000 speaker. Hey BobK, To me, speaker weight has always been a selling factor along with a bigger, better sound. My Klipsch TSCMs weigh in at 250 pounds each, and I own seven of them. I sleep peacefully at night when I am on vacation with the realization that they are just to big and awkward for two guys to easily tote off! Roger

  26. Roger, thanks for posting this in the HT section as this is pretty much the only section I frequent and I rarely look at the "Recent Posts" on the home page. Just sent my donation. Not sure we have to try and guilt people into donating. Just by making the request known and letting people give from their hearts should be enough. Many of us I'm sure simply just did not know about it.

  27. I acknowledge this will sound sexist and/or cliched, but being found to be not PC won't deter me. After our morning coffee, I asked my bride of 32 years if she'd like to go out for breakfast. Her responses were, "I would have to get ready; where would we go; I'll make pancakes." I should have stopped at pancakes. But no, I wanted to spare her the effort to prepare breakfast and clean up afterward. I assured her she looked fine for public viewing. I reminded her of the dozens of suitable breakfast places within a ten minute radius. Why is it a man can throw on clothes and be out the door in seconds, whereas a woman needs preparations suitable for a mission to Mars? To compromise, being ever the epicurean, I offered to go to McD's for a couple of Big Breakfasts to go. Before you suggest it, me preparing breakfast was not an option. I was prepared to toil over a hot steering wheel, but not to prepare a meal and clean up. To go through the McD's drive through, one need barely get dressed. I was on my way to the Golden Arches within seconds. After placing my order, I got in line behind a woman in a BMW suv (apparently too large for her to handle) attempting to parallel park it next to the payment window. Eventually, she got close enough and then proceeded to strike the car's door against the building. Minutes passed, Dialogue was taking place between driver and cashier. The driver handed her phone to the cashier. The cashier could be seen entering data on the phone's screen. This went on for some time. Apparently the woman was trying to pay with bit coins, a "speed" pass or a similar form of "convenient" technology with which she was not yet fluent. By this time, a line had formed behind me. A driver in line was heard to suggest, "Perhaps it would be better to experiment inside, rather than in the drive through at a fast food restaurant." I've paraphrased the suggestion, as this is a family forum. The woman must have taken the hint, as then actual US currency appeared to be exchanged. She pulled forward. By now my order had been bagged for quite some time. I could have been home by now, but for the entertainment unfolding before me. The cashier apologized for the delay. I reminded her it wasn't her fault, gave her exact change and pulled away, only to come upon the BMW stopped smack in the way. The driver looked up and pulled out of the way. Nothing had prevented her from stopping elsewhere so as to not block traffic. Perhaps "fast food" restaurants with drive though lanes need to designate a cash only lane, as done on toll roads.

  28. Rental or to relocate. Boone is absolutely beautiful. I'm either coming to visit you there or renting the place, just sayin'! Smoky Mountains are definitely one of my happy places! A second home.. She has a new place and I have mine so she may sell or rent hers. You and dtel would be some of our first guest. I'll let you know when to start packing the car.

  30. Just want to thank so many of you, for the info you have provided on Jubilees and clones . I would name names, but I would be afraid I would leave someone out. YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!! I finally hooked up the Tad 4002's to the 402's. This is sonic BLISS, so smooth, open, airy, clear, detailed, and a lot more information being presented. I could go on and on. For my tastes, this is the best system I have heard.

Between the two appointments I don't know which ones worse, One I am scared of, dentist and the other I have never had. I hope those doctors don't get his appointments mixed up.

  36. Yes I can tell the chorus can handle more power than what I have. In general 100 watts is plenty for most speakers I have but most of them are smaller speakers where you don't get much more output with power. I can tell the chorus can eat more power if I had it. And these things will get loud and clear, they are a good combination of clarity and loudness. I have smaller monitors Kefs that are very accurate smooth but they do not have that visceral sound when played louder, the output sort of hits a wall on them. But those are only 88DB efficiency. They guy that sold them to me had them on a 300+ watt output old Carver amp. They did get louder but his amp had some serious hum issues so the outlaw with less power easily bested that amp. BobK, If you are pushing clean power, you can push a lot more power through them than what they are rated at, plus, a big amp with plenty of headroom will give you more Bass! Not only when playing loud, but at lower listening levels as well. A good BIG amp is the next best thing to running multi channel amps! Roger

  39. The exchange is terrible, below .70 on Friday. Thankfully this will eventually turn around. I consider Florida to be my future homeland. Have about a decade to go before I retire. Love Florida, in fact pretty much all the American south;oddly enough I find the folk down that way to have much in common with Canadians like myself who live in the far north. I do check out CAM from time to time, don't often see too many Klisch and those there tend to be pricy. Most generally won't ship, so you almost need to be in Ontario. The used prices I see on this forum for stuff in the States just makes by mouth drop. Great deals down there. I'm in Edmonton, and I feel your pain on the shipping and prices. Most of the good deals that can be found up here are in the Toronto area and they wont even ship this way at a decent rate.

  40. To me the Tad's were a easily better than original drivers, even my old ears easily heard a big difference. I only had a problem with the price, definitely not the sound. Glad you like them, it's not hard to do.

  41. The main issue with that type of evaluation is that is relies on memory as a basis for quality... it would be better to say that you a more than happy with what you are getting via that storage method. I tend to agree with you... with high quality playback gear, I am more than happy with the majority of music being reproduced, even mp3's. That being said, when critical listening multiple sources... I can definitely hear differences in qualities. Most of the time, thise differences are astoundingly vast, and other times it comes down to very minor differences that mainly reside in the granularity area and separation areas (layering) of what is being listened to.

  44. Top notch there Tarheel with LF. Now that I was up in area of the Smokeys and such, I really dig on the place, especially when I was there in the summertime, with the cool nights on a mountain versus damn humidity on wheels down here. Mark, I am almost positive your apple pie moonshine is closer to the real article. Last I tried it the top was swigged and I got a psychic high off of it. Thanks for the pics Gary, and the many others who contribute to the cause. Speaking of which, when in an ABC Liquor store up in the mountains, I could not begin to believe all the flavors of shine these days. My first recollection of shine adventure was with Alabama shine, which was very good and mellow enough with the recc. chaser, a beer. Awhile later I was turned on to what I think was N. Florida shine. Very good as well, and soon though, I was higher than a Georgia pine and quite liberated with my tongue, saying about whatever I wanted. About like what sodium pentathol must be like(truth serum). This evening, I plan to have another 6 pack of Stella, as I must be going through a phase with the stuff. I find it excellent, with no downside other than it tends to go quickly. Need to get a bottle of Schnapps in the house for such times, for a little topper off. Much more that I could say but for now, I will let it stand as is. Now after a couple or three, I may be back. Coffee still tasting good. You dudes AND gals make me feel like family, even if I do not post as much as in recent past. Cheers then... Oh BTW, wanted to stop in Gatlinburg for a shine sample or 2 but, the gals were with us and we went for lunch at some semi-famous restaurant higher up, the name of which escapes me. Looked for all the world like a semi-street party down the main road through Gatlinburg. So much to see and do. Maybe next time!
