  1. Good evening everyone here on CC&C..... First, I would like to say I have enjoyed all the auto photos and stories from Chuck and friends, great looking cars and 'mugs' I have many stories of my own I could share................but.......... Just a bit of a SAD note..........we are over in RTM and a bit in shock after my good friend Pezz from RI. announced a short while ago the passing of Keith Emerson of ELP ..... So, we all switched gears from our normal variety of music and are now paying tribute to this great man and musician and one I always looked up to as a keyboard player myself.... Sorry to be the messenger of this sad news.... I will check in later or tomorrow.... .......Gary

  4. Greetings all. It's been a while following a week of brutal illness, and a 10 day vacation with alternating sick kiddos, back in the saddle. Loving the car pics. This is my only real car pic. I was able to be a part of a Porsche driving tour in Germany a couple of years ago. This is my "angry album cover face, lean on the car pose". The 911 is a wonderful machine and I am grateful for the opportunity to drive it for a few days.

  5. It's remarkable, it's on rails. The windy mountain roads were by far the most fun. It has a g force display so you can see how hard your leaning into any corners (or getting pushed back on acceleration!). Paddle shifters (no clutch) and it was seamless shifting. There's a reason they charge what they do, it's a different machine. For now, I'm quite content to rent one like that, it leaves money for khorns - even with a nice Mac amp it's "cheap" compared to a performance car! Right?! (Working on my justification speech to my wife)

  8. Gary, that is sad news indeed, he was a musical genius. We have lost quite a few musicians lately, I guess we are all getting older.

  9. hi guys... i just got home from looking at these & thought id pass on some details for anyone interested, the pics are a little deceiving & dont show any real detail or specifics. these are AA x-overs, she said she thinks they were bought in 1989 by her brother but i think AA's are older than that arent they? cosmetics: lots of scratches in the veneer on the tops & the face of the bass bins. most corners have small chipped off pieces of the veneer. scratches about 1-2" long that broke clean through the veneer on the face of one bass bin, also the very bottom horizontal 2" piece of trim board is missing a 1-2" piece off the end. all in all they sounded ok at lower levels, but the cosmetics are very bad for anyone that cares about that... would make great garage/shop speakers though! i offered a little less than $1000 & they passed so seems pretty firm on the $1000 ballpark. let me know if anyone needs any other details. update: well the seller called me back yesterday to make a counter offer & we were able to work out a deal. they are home here now & i will post up some pics before i clean them up as best as i can & put them in their new home. as has been mentioned, i think they are worth the price because they seem to work ok, just wish they werent quite so beat up, thats why i initially passed, im kind of picky about the cosmetics since thats a big part of klipsch to me but i would have paid the asking price if they were a little prettier. just wanted to update this so anyone curious knows they are sold & the ladys phone doesnt ring off the hook!

  10. Back when I was refurbishing my LSs, I reused an old pair of AB xovers that I had left over from updating my Belles. (I sent you the beat to hell AL's that came in the La Scalas). They sounded fine good enough to me, but I have recently replaced the ABs with a pair of AAs that I had Bob recap. There is a distinct and noticeable improvement. I do not pick up any of the harshness that others have mentioned. I am not very good at "critical" listening, but usually pick up on things I don't like. Yours look great and with a little tweaking should sound great as well.

  11. I suspect most of the 66,67s with 396 ended up in ditches or around telephone poles. I got to drive the '66 pontiac 2+2 with the 421/4 speed? I was 16 and my dad wouldn't agree for me to have it after he drove it!

  12. Chuck, My best friend in the 10th grade drove a maroon 1966 SS 396 Chevelle, 350 hp, 4 speed, 3.70:1 posi, no power steering. His father sent him and his older brother to the Chevy dealership to buy a car to replace a 61 VW their mother drove. In the small towns of Spring Lake and Grand Haven the local Chevy dealer knew their credit was good. Their mother never drove it. Steering it at low speeds was a quick source of Popeye arms. That car was fun to drive. The fun didn't last long. My friend totaled it in a low speed head-on collision with a neighbor in the shared driveway. It was actually a private drive shared by several of the homes on Spring Lake. His father didn't make that mistake again. The Chevelle was replaced by an Impala with a mouse motor and slush box. The fun was over. I later took the same 61 Beetle and put in a 65 Corvair engine with a Carter AFB, cam and headers. It would pass anything but a gas station. Unfortunately, like all heart transplants in those days, it was constantly being rejected.

  13. Steve the 55 has a 427 ci engine. The 66 badged as a 396 actually has a 454 ci engine. I was frustrated by not getting to put my foot in the throttle a bit..

  15. So there i was...literally surrounded by about six gangbangers. This was about two hours ago. My brother & I ventured into the bowels of Los Angeles. We were wandering around trying to remember where we parked and ended up standing at this corner waiting to cross. I noticed the group that i was in the middle of had a well known gang name emblazoned on their ball caps. I just minded my own business and when the light turned green i started to cross...nearly bumped into one of the guys and he mumbled “sorry” as he crossed in front of me. We went our own separate ways and “nothing went down." Looked up an eatery that is supposed to be iconic to Los Angeles. It’s called The Apple Pan. Ok, what a disappointment. It was on this television show about the best hamburgers. It’s just down the road a bit from Fox Studio. The place is old fashioned...only a counter. The drinks come in those paper funnel cups that are placed in an aluminum holder. The burger sucked. For two of us it was $27.83 and neither of us thought it was anywhere near worth that price. Honestly, a good burger chain kicks the crap out of this place. Yet, they're still in business ... if anyone is interested ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Apple_Pan by the way, the gangbangers were NOWHERE near The Apple Pan. The Apple Pan area is totally safe.

  18. Not for me at least. I'm trying to learn restraint. Plus I have already decided at the beginning of the year I was going to build up my amplifier section before looking at speakers again. So I'm safely not a contender.

  19. I had 2 pairs of RF35's for years..... Leave jumpers in.... Biwire/Biamp is a complete waste time. I am not a expert in sound though..... Just a normal expert... Tell your friend to enjoy the 35's.... everyone I ever sold them to..... Loves them. G.E.M

  20. ^^^ he said it right. can and will you hear a difference if you bi-wire or bi-amp...Yes, is it the best "upgrade" you can do...No. i've done it, both with an AVR (Onkyo 805 to be specific) and a true amp (Emotiva LPA-1 & XPA-3). to me, as a picky critical listener i am, the only thing i actually heard was it was a touch "louder". keep this in mind, i'm the say guy who has all custom made cables (all of them) and can hear the differences between gold, silver, platinum, etc... the biggest issue with a bi-wire (worse choice) and bi-amp is the amount of money you will spend in speaker wire. to truly squeeze ever ounce of that minor "upgrade" you do need some "good" wire. i'm not talking $50 a foot wire either, just not pure junk. the Monoprice will work, but really the stuff you can get for $5 a foot will give you the most out of it. that's why i say it's not the best upgrade you can do. the amount of money you will spend in wire a lone, you can either buy a better receiver or amp. if you were to pair your Onkyo with an Emotiva amp for $300-$400, that "upgrade" would be significant. (i know, i've done it!). "wire and cables" should be the LAST upgrade you do. spend the most on speakers, speaker upgrades, like crossovers, then amps, then receivers. after all that is done, and your Sub makes your heart sing (those suckers can be $2K+), then worry about cabling. this is coming from a guy who is a major Cable Guy! (insert clips now...lol) heck, if you like i'll ship you out a BOX of custom made cables that you can play with. when you are done, ship them back. it's really a pain to do that though. lots of plugging and unplugging, takes ALL day! you have to really want to do that! lol!

  22. Fully horn loaded is always the best sounding type speaker for me. I'm surprised that you don't hear it the same. Each their own as they say. Slowly over the years my two main systems have evolved into fully loaded horns. They seem to always shine the best with VOCALS.

  28. Yep, I get that feeling also. Does everyone? Or should I ask doesn't everyone? What a piece of work is a man! How noble in reason. How infinite in faculty. In form and moving how express and admirable. In action, how like an angel. In apprehension, how like a god. - Shakespeare's Hamlet

  31. Yep...fusing the pipe properly is critical. Do it wrong and you got problems. The gas pipeline here is typically yellow but is sometimes orange. Sent from my SM-G920R4 using Tapatalk

  32. My 2013 Onkyo 717 AVR has exactly that same option, but you have it exactly right Colter according to the Onk manual. Pull off the straps separating the HF/LF. Go into the On Screen Display of the AVR in the setup and choose "Standard" or "Bi-amp." Then you are good to go. The next part I am about to tell you, you already know; it makes almost NO difference in the sound. I did a lot of critical listening both ways on my AVR with the CF-4's. I could maybe hear a little bit of clarity in the midrange, but only if I was being picky. In everyday listening in a blind test I'm very sure I could not tell you if it was in bi-amp mode or standard mode.

  35. Best bet is not to ask for a pair of vintage speakers in excellent condition and then propose that they be smashed up by shipping. Heresy is not a small cabinet, and once packed properly is pretty ungainly for the UPS gorillas. Those who truly love Klipsch speakers around here usually make whatever trip is necessary or await something to come available in their neck of the woods. Just some advice from an old-timer. Welcome to the madness.
