  1. @dtel sorry to hear that your bride is sick. did she get bit by something or is it an illness? I hope she gets to a speedy and complete recovery. has she been wearing a fake beard? it could be a reaction to the glue.

  4. That's a great price for the 64II I say go for it since you'll probably upgrade the towers anyways. Especially if you hang out around here!

More desert bloom... this is Henry... one of the last vestiges of some plants I got from my Uncle Henry when he past away a few years ago... he's quite happy in the desert. he's probably several decades old already. Some indoor Bloominess... I am trying to grow Plumeria IN THE DESERT... I got a sprout on Monday and a full blown leaf by Saturday.

  7. In all fairness, I was a little scared. I was very sick and nothing we did seemed to help me get a lot better. Very thankful for all the help we had and to everyone for keeping me medicated as best as possible. Could not be prouder to be associated with such a great company and all of our forum members.

  8. Well, you might be somewhat disappointed in my response: all the things that I describe above are really aspects of loudspeaker performance in-room. If you want to make that performance worse, then add electronics that aren't transparent and linear in their operation. Trust me, loudspeaker performance dominates. Loudspeaker frequency response correction and room correction is clearly a function of electronics and software/firmware--or perhaps skill of someone that's done those corrections manually. Getting good quality electronics when dealing with high end loudspeakers exhibiting the characteristics that I describe above isn't as critical in terms of getting outstanding performance--if my experience with Jubs has taught me anything (and yes, I do put their performance at a level of "high end performance"...definitely). Sure, you can hear subtle differences in upstream electronics, but they're not deal breakers, especially if all of the electronics are competent pieces or better. Loudspeaker performance I've found dominates in a way that's difficult to believe unless you're there listening. What really is extremely critical however is the recorded music that you play. Really good loudspeakers reveal things about recordings that even the mixing and mastering guys probably didn't hear during production using their direct radiating studio monitors. The reason why I'm demastering all my CDs? ...You got it... That's been my experience thus far. Chris

  10. Could be, your right, but you were there and you know it's the truth. She looked like the had a zss whpping and felt like it. Since we got home she was trying to get a doctors appointment that wasn't 1.5-2 weeks away when she finally gave up last night and we went to the emergency room, we were there from 5pm to 11 pm, they gave her a shot, 2 breathing treatments and 4 prescriptions and a letter for an appointment for a pulmonary specialist. She is feeling a little better today, had the prescriptions filled and started taking them, so far it looks like she's going to live despite how she looked. I hope she don't read this

  14. Thought so. You have the original Aussie Mushroom label release. Good one! Strange thing is the link doesn't identify the red cover with laser etched vinyl. Mine clearly says SP-4822 and is red cover and laser etched.

  17. It is relaxing, I use a 15' long heavy duty headphone cord to an i pad or phone to the stereo out there to control the music and volume from the hammock, the wifi works great out there. My wife calls it my office, but it's better than an office, no work ever gets done out there. I have to say building that in the yard has been the best thing I have done in a long time, I never would have thought it would get used as much as it has.

  18. Many good points here and nothing really sounds like bad advice, but yes you have to be careful with blanket statements, it's so easy to think what works for one person is good for all. Between the room and the recording alone this can throw in so many variances it's not funny. I think the general blanket habits of different models is ok as long as it's clear it's just some peoples opinion. Like a khorn doesn't really work correctly not tight in a corner or have sealed backs, a Cornwall seems to have more bass than a LaScala or Heresy but the latter appears tighter, the Rf line does have a slightly different sound than heritage, not better or worse, just different. Things like this does really help people decide what they want, we just have to be sure it's not one person's opinion which is out of line with general thinking. I have received help and advice with many things over the years which led me in the right direction and saved me from wasting money. I will say one thing that bothers me more than anything is when someone buys set of, let's say forte's and gets them home and ask about how to clean them up. No problem, until you get the post..........well after you clean them up you might as well change out all the diaphragms to titanium and get a new updated crossovers, plus tape some weights to the passive radiator to tune it lower and brace the inside of the cabinet more since your wiping them off. REALLY is something wrong with you, the guy never even plugged them in yet and has no idea what they sound like never hearing a forte before, and your going to suggest these things. It's just crazy, I feel like choking people when things like this are said...but I have to control myself. I know they mean well but give them a chance to know what they even have before sending them down that road. Good thread, it's good that everyone cares, really good. I say this because many here have helped me with good advice many times which stopped me from making mistakes and wasting money which I have none to waste.

  22. Which partially explains the crappy quality of recordings these days, if you are referring to studio engineers. If you are talking about FOH engineers and touring sound providers, then speaker system comparisons are perfectly valid because the PA is the original sound that one hears at a large concert. If you are talking about hifi magazine reviewers, I can't consider any of these to be any more than professional shills and literary prostitutes who should be ignored.

I turned on the 5.1 sound system and VuDu Rouge one, could not make it more than 30MIn If that is the "New" Star Wars set up, it sucks. I will let the wife know we have it for 24hrs, maybe she will watch it. Dtel take care of yourself.

  27. @Lipoly Your gear is all timbre matched - the Best Buy line goes with the Best Buy line. No questions there. The RC line is a cut above your speakers. The Reference line you're referring to there is not the same as the "Reference" line you bought at Best Buy (those are glorified Icons that are identical in everything but color). Line matches with line, the closer you can match the drivers the better. The ideal setup is the same speaker in all speaker positions, i.e. 7 R-28F's, or 5 RP-280F's, etc. At the minimum usually LCR (the front three) being identical is what is pretty much standard, but the problem is most people don't have the room for that. If you're satisfied with what you have, go with it. It's all matched. @stevoc921 - The RC-64 will outperform your Best Buy gear. You may have to tone it down and trim up your mains if you go that route. The speaker that was designed for your setup is the R-25C. I've seen people using the 250C and the 4x0C speakers, but I'm not sure how a critical ear would hear them. I hated it when I had the RC-52 mixed in with my RF-3's. Should you go with the RC-64 - be prepared to upgrade your R-28F's as well to something more appropriate such as the RF-62 or RP-260F (82 and 280F respectively as well).

  37. Chris made some great points. The Anthem HT could not play loud enough without distorting. This was apparent at -15 to -10 MV. The sub woofer sound was not crisp and sharp. It was a dull thud and not setup correctly. I am sure that the speakers were not playing frequencies due to uneven coverage of the spectrum. I know that it was not the amps and speaker as the major culprit. The rooms were not setup very well. It just goes to show you can't just throw a system in a room an expect good sound.

  42. Some thoughts on "high end loudspeakers" in terms of what is typically wanted out of them--if their performance is important (plagiarizing a bit from another source in the process): What Do We Want In (High End) Loudspeakers? 1) High Efficiency: they need to turn electrical energy into acoustic energy--not heat. Direct radiating woofers must have a large diaphragm area in order to turn electrical energy into acoustic energy efficiently. 2) Accuracy: they need to respond as accurately as possible to the electrical signal driving it over the acoustic coverage area of the speaker, not just at a “sweet spot". The loudspeakers cannot claim accuracy if: they are uncompensated and generating uneven loudness at different frequencies when we're listening within the coverage area, i.e., if they can only have accurate response at a single listening point within the coverage area. they produce audible distortion (harmonic, modulation, impulse, compression, uneven coverage, imaging [phase matching], etc.). Direct radiating drivers cannot produce acoustic energy without also producing all those types of distortion due to their moving mass effects, non-ideal diaphragm suspensions, and changing magnetic force with higher diaphragm movements. they cannot produce the full range of loudness of the music--i.e., "concert volume"--without audibly distorting. This is especially true for "high end" loudspeakers for the customer expects this capability. PA and cinema loudspeakers have been horn loaded for many years because they do not distort like direct radiating loudspeakers. Most consumer loudspeaker manufacturers have yet to recognize this customer need, including "high end" manufacturers. 3) Directionality: we want to send sound to ears, not to the walls and ceilings. Intelligibility will be high if they control directionality at all frequencies equally. Loudspeakers that control high frequency directionality but not low frequency donʼt satisfy this condition. Frequency response will vary over the coverage areas and directivity will not be constant. Direct radiating drivers emit constantly changing directionality with frequency, which is a function of the size of their vibrating diaphragms to the wavelengths of sound they are producing. 4) Clean multi-instrument playback: we want loudspeakers that can simultaneously play all the music voices/instruments in the recording without adding audible distortion at higher instrument/vocal frequencies (i.e., sideband distortion peaks--otherwise called FM and AM distortion, or modulation distortion for short) that make the sound opaque and wooly sounding at up to concert volume playback levels. This is especially true for "high end" loudspeakers. 5) No disruptions in phase, coverage areas, loudness or frequency response throughout crossover interference bands. Chris
