  4. I've been drinking coffee longer than many of you are alive. After trying all kinds of brewing methods, many different bean types; I'm now committed to the following: An adjustable Burr grinder, and stainless steel french press, and a Organic french roast. The coffee I buy on eBay for $25.00 for 3 lbs. The french press holds about 30 ounces of brew and ddI drink it all in one sitting and its the only coffee I drink all day. Knowing that gets me up in the morning with a smile on my face.

  5. First of all let me say I am bored to tears so please forgive all these recent threads. Just trying to pass the time. Well as you may have gathered from my other two recent threads regarding PD and Sleep Apnea, the wheels continue to fall off the wagon so to speak. Lol! I've been dealing with a work related ankle injury on and off since October, 2015. Started as nothing more than a roll type ankle sprain or so it was thought. Went on so long that it started to alter the basic structure of my left foot/ankle. I tried to work through the pain for over a year(stubborn SOB that I am)and finally could no longer walk. I have been off work(I am a Certified Water Operator for the city we live in) since 12/29/16 going through the process one painful step at a time. Finally had my first of four scheduled surgeries to correct the issues/injuries on 06/23/17. They are scheduled two weeks apart with the next one being this coming Friday and the last one on 08/11/17. Anyway, thought you Medical type Cats might be interested in what is being done. You will have to look these up(except the first one) as I did if you are interested in the exact procedure. Interesting stuff. However It's all Latin to me.... Stage 1: Medial displacement Calcaneal Osteotomy with probable percutaneous tendo-Achilles lengthening versus Gastrocnemius lengthening. This is the one that was performed on 06/23/17. The heel was broken/cut away from the foot and moved over toward the inside to help create an improved arch. Because of the added tension on the Achilles from displacing the heel it did in fact require lengthening during the procedure through three other smaller incisions. The Anesthesiologist could not get the Nerve Block to work so as you can imagine I was in one Helluva lot of post-op pain until about Tuesday. Had oral pain meds to help me through of course. Ever since I lost four fingers on my right hand to a Shotgun blast almost 50 years ago I have had a very high tolerance for pain as you might imagine. Well let me tell you this SOB hurt! Stage 2: 07/07/17. Opening wedge medial Cuneiform Osteotomy. Stage 3: 07/21/17. Evans Calcaneal Osteotomy. Stage 4: 08/11/17. Debridement and repair of the posterior Tibialis Tendon with Flexor Digitorum Longus augmentation. Reconstruction of the Spring Ligament. I am staring at roughly two months in a cast after the last one. A walking boot and PT after that. I am hoping for at least light duty at work by January. We will see but I am positive and confident in my Surgeon and the outcome. Oh yea, and thank God for my Knee Scooter! LOL!

  9. That's hard news to hear Steve. The folks at Hospice are wonderful, caring folks and will keep him comfortable over his last days. It really is a helpless feeling for family and friends to see the steady decline of a loved one. Hang in there my friend. And by the way I suspect you have more friends than you know.

  10. Sad news indeed Steve @BigStewMan. Elden's right, a "like" seems inappropriate as an indication of empathy. I used to tell myself I didn't want to know about early cancers. It was a rationalization when the side effects of the early chemo therapies seemed to me worse than the disease. Today, the treatments and outcomes are much better, as many here can attest. Prostate cancer is a bad one, but early detection is important. My younger brother is a prostate cancer survivor thanks to early detection and treatment. It's too easy to joke about the indignities of digital exams, colonoscopies, and the like, but they can save lives, but only if done. Too many men suffer from testosterone overload and believe they can arm wrestle heart disease, cancer, diabetes, etc., they can't. Healthy lifestyles and early detection and treatment can save lives and improve the quality of lives. I'm not suggesting your friend fit that category. Sometimes bad outcomes follow no matter what. I am trying to remind myself and others that what you don't know can kill you. Knowledge is power and leads to choices. You and your friend and his family are in my thoughts and prayers.

  13. you must learn the 8 cardinal rules Only Klipsch speakers and Klipsch 3-speaker master stereo system meet the 8 cardinal points of reperoduction: 1.Freedom from distrortion. Minimum distortion requires small amplitudes of air mass movements, even at peak transisnt power output. Bass diaphragm motion should not eceed 1/16 inch. Corner placement reduces distortion three fourths. 2.Optimium size of speaker. Large enough to reproduce the lowest audible bass tone at peak transient power output without distortion; not so large as to produce a separation of bass and treble events. Corner placement increases effective size of speaker 4 times. 3.Freedom from rattles. 4.Freedom from shadows. Obstructions between high frequency speaker and listeners can not be tolerated - treble wave-lengths do not turn corners. 5.Freedom from cavities. The space under a speaker box formed by mounting it on legs can destroy the bottom octave of response and deteriorate the next 2 octaves. 6.Adequate spacing for stereo. In a 14 x 17 foot room, for example, the 17-foot wall is apt to be best for the stereo speaker array. 7.Accurate spatial values. Ability to localize the virtual sound sources in their original spatial relationships requires 3 widely spaced speakers, regardless of size or type, retention of this quality over a wide listening area requires toe-in of the flanking speakers. 8.Flanking speakers toed-in. Such toe-in is naturally provided by corner speakers. The effect is to reduce shift of the virtual sound source for different listener locations. This is the only way to achieve a wide area for listening.

  16. Hi there, I have a pair of Chorus I and I also notice that the mids are more prominent. From what I've been told this is a design feature. As for the "scratchy-ness", I've experienced this too on poor source material such as low quality digital music or audio from Netflix (w/o a dac). As I understand it, the Chorus I is highly sensitive to source material and for better or worse will bring out the details. I have the titanium tweeter diaphragms, will be having my xo refurbished by Bob soon. Another issue I thought of was you having titanium midrange diaphragms too. Did you get a band pass modification to your xo too? Bob can shed some of the more technical details surrounding that better than I could.

  30. I have bad Sleep Apnea...REALLY BAD! I have a love/hate relationship with my CPAP set-up. I love that it works solving my issues with Sleep Apnea....I hate that I have to wear it. I opted for the longer hose the last time I ordered supplies and that makes things somewhat better. I have always fallen asleep with SOMETHING ON...TV, radio, whatever...I have been that way since before I ever started school...and am still that way. I normally just put in a DVD or BlueRay movie and watch it for a few minutes before I drift off to sleep...but I hate the mask on my face while I am trying to watch something for the few minutes I remain awake after laying down before drifting off to sleep, because I cannot get good stereo vision with the mask on and my head tilted to the side. It is what it is...seems there is no real way to eliminate some kind of issue when you NEED to have a hose hooked up to your face while sleeping. I have lost over 60 lbs over the past year and a half (was weighing about 265 when I started)...lost about 55 first and let that loss stabilize for about 8 months, now am on the loss program again and heading towards my goal of 165-175 max weight. I was healthiest at that weight and want to get back to it...but then again, I was working out in the martial arts and average of 4 days a week, 3-4 hours each day, in those days, too. I can still do that, but joints and such don't like it. So once I get to around 185-190, I will combine a LEASSER martial arts workout with swimming and speed-walking (MOSTLY swimming, though, since it is the LEAST unfavorable towards my knee and hip issues!). I will most likely start to gain weight at that time (FOR a time!), but that would just be muscle mass replacing body fat causing that increase...until that, too, stabilizes then the weight will drop again. I understand how working-out affects the body, so I expect that to happen. My current job situation is the thing that keeps me from doing what I really need to be doing for the work-outs and such...but that will soon be solved...since I will soon be in "total" retirement and not tied to anybody's schedule but the one I create for myself...which I fully intend to be a VERY FLEXIBLE schedule...LOL! I recently found out that I am able to take a short nap without the CPAP involved, and not wake up myself with my own snoring, anymore...not sure if that is a permanent thing, tied to the weight loss, or is a side-effect of using the CPAP every night since 2011-12 time frame...but it would be nice if it was permanent.

  32. The so-called "vertical" Cornwall was ORIGINALLY called the Cornwall II, when, for a time, it was the only one in production. After they brought back out "horizontal" version for standard production, and relegated the "vertical" version to special-order-only, the "II" was dropped from the Cornwall moniker. The original Cornwalls carrying the "II" designation were called that for marketing purposes during the short time the "verticals" were the standard production item. Early "verticals" had the arrows stenciled onto the back panel of the speaker, whereas, once the "vertical" became the standard production item for a short time, they actually had a stapled-on placard with the arrows on it. That was in the late 1960's for two or three years or so into the early 1970's. Then back to the "Horizontals" for standard production. All of this was driven by following the sales of Cornwalls...IOW, as the Cornwall speaker began to be sold in PAIRS more than as singles, things changed. From the inception of the Cornwall speaker until the late 1960's the vast majority of Cornwalls were sold as singles...either to supplement a SINGLE K-horn, OR to be used as a center-channel speaker between a pair of K-horns. As time went on, it became obvious that people were more often buying them in pairs as main speakers...so things changed. The same kind of thing happened for the Heresy, but it began MUCH earlier...which cause the Heresy to undergo numerous changes to make it a better MAIN speaker and led to it being marketed as an entry-level Klipsch main speaker item. The Heresy H700 model was the earliest long-term culmination of this process, and had continued to evolve a bit more into just the "Heresy" by the time I had arrived at K&A. As for the Cornwall....you simply CANNOT empirically state EXACT years of manufacture for SPECIFIC types of Cornwalls, since I actually built about 6 or 7 different types while working there (with three of them being the Standard Production ones over that time period), even though some of them had been out of STANDARD production for a number of years. If a customer ordered a match to a previously-built Cornwall back when I was there (76-83), they got it. We would just go over to the EXTREMELY DUSTY stack of router templates leaning against the wall, pull the correct one out, tighten it up and rout out a motor-board to match what the customer already had previously bought...even if they had bought it YEARS before. Most of the time, we were able to match components to the previously-purchased Cornwall, too...but those remaining NOS components pretty-much got used up while I was there and it became increasingly difficult to do it anymore....so most orders like that actually started to end up with the customer sending the old one in for an "upgrade" while the new one was being built with the "upgrade components" already in it by the time I left K&A in 1983. It was really the only viable solution by that time. As for what was written in the literature and/or on the Warranty Card(s) which were shipped with the speaker (normally stapled to the rear of the speaker, then later put into the "baggie" when each speaker was packed for shipping): Final Assembly was most likely told to exhaust the supplies of the previous items before using the new current items, generally for one of two reasons: the new items had not yet arrived, and/or the "powers that were" wanted use up what was already there in order to cut costs. This doesn't help out with the confusion over the Cornwall changes over the years and tends to add to it.

  33. Well, that's just not true. Regardless of what your cardboard box says, if you have a pair from the 60's, it's a Cornwall I. Here's the real history of the Cornwall. Oct 1959: The Cornwall is introduced as the world's second commercially produced center speaker. A speaker with higher output capability than the Heresy was needed when used in three speaker arrays between Klipschorn’s. Component designations: Woofer EV 15WK, Midrange K-1000 Horn and University SAHF Driver, Tweeter K-77 Late 1959: Transition to the K-33-J Woofer (Jensen) 1959 - 1961: Sporadic transition to the K-55-V mid-range driver (Atlas) Jan 1963: The K-1000 diffraction type midrange horn was replaced with the exponential K-600 horn with a lower (600 Hz) cutoff. Sept 1967: Transition to the K-33-M. The records are not clear as to the origin of this driver but it is believed to be an Eminence driver with an Alnico magnet. Jan 1968: Transition to The K-33-P Woofer (CTS Paducah KY) 1974: The horizontal version of the Cornwall is discontinued 1974: K-56 mid-range driver (Electrovoice 1828) is used for a short period as a temporary replacement as the supply of K-55-V drivers was interrupted. 1975: Transition to The K-33-B Woofer (CTS Brownsville TX) 1975-1979: K-33-E and the K-33-B were used interchangeably. 1979: The Eminence K-33-E woofer is used exclusively June 1981: The updated B2 network, with steeper crossover slopes is phased in with no changes to the K-33-E, K-55-V and K-77-M drivers. Oct 1981 - March 1983: The transition between four different iterations of the midrange driver from revolving sources occurs during this period. The original K-55-V was changed to a K-51-V (10/19/81) This marked the first time in the Cornwall's history that it used a driver set that differed from that of the Klipschorn. The K-51-V was then changed to the K-55-G (essentially a ceramic magnet version of the Atlas Alnico K-55-V). The K-55-G was then changed to the Hepner built K-52-H and finally the Klipsch built K-52-K. Mar 1983: The B-3 network and the K-52 midrange driver starts to be used in this model. Component designations were: Woofer Eminence K-33-E, Midrange K-57-K (K-600 Aluminum horn and K-52-K driver with the threaded snout), Tweeter K-77-M and B-3 network. Jan 1986: The Cornwall II is introduced featuring front mounted drivers to reduce baffle induced diffraction effects. Component designations were: Woofer Eminence K-34-E (K-33-E with a dressy pad ring), Midrange K-57-K (K-601 plastic horn and K-52-K driver), Tweeter K-79-K (K-75-K horn and K-79 driver) and CW II network. 1990: The Cornwall II is discontinued Mar 2006: The Cornwall III is introduced marking the end of the Cornwall's 15 year absence from the market. This version utilizes the Klipschorn woofer, the horn and driver set from the Heresy III (featuring Titanium diaphragms and a Tractrix® tweeter horn) and bi-wire inputs. Component designations are: Woofer K-33-E, Midrange K-53-Ti (K-701 horn and K-53-Ti driver), Tweeter K-107-Ti (K-79-T horn and K-100-Ti driver). 2008+: There have been a number of newer models produced, and Klipsch has transitioned the crossovers to a more modern design. For information on the recent changes, please go to the website (Klipsch.com) for product information.

  35. I use the Whisp by Repironics. I like it better than the Dreamwear you linked to because I don't like those masks with a nasal canal style. It sounds like a tornado in my head. The Whisp has a Velcro strap at the top like you mentioned. I don't use it that way because I like the flexibility of having the air blown to the side I choose. It is also flat on the side so you can turn your head and it is perfectly comfortable. It also seals better than my previous mask and is very lightweight.
