  1. Continued: First cut on the veneer. Got my supervisor keeping a lookout from the garage. Contact cement rolled on, just waiting for it to dry. It was tricky to cut the access door before it was glued. I was trying to save the piece so the grain would match. I ended up using some boards and clamps on one side of the hole at a time to hold it roughly where I wanted it. I rolled it backwards and made some score marks with a knife to mark the exact corners, then switched to the other side. I took it off, used a straight edge to connect the marks on the corners, and it came out almost as cleanly as I wanted. The difficult side is done. The rest was a cake walk comparatively. Just enough of a gap to make it easy to install. Bracing installed for the door, and I painted the interior black. Edge banding installed and moved inside. I used two coats of Dark Walnut Danish oil from Watco. It doesn't quite match the Forte IIs, but it's close enough and I know the color will change slightly with age. Lastly, I wanted something a little nicer looking for the plate amp (Dayton 500w). I was a little less discerning with the finish of this, since it was going to stay mostly unseen. Like the F20, it's birch ply with walnut veneer. I added some black walnut on the front for aesthetics, and because I mis-measured the depth of the amp when installed. I took the amp out of the plastic case and there is an opening at the bottom and top to allow for some ventilation when I get around to cranking this thing up.

  2. In Seattle we have wet and dry. From November to May we probably see the sun 30 days in a typical year. From June through October, we have amazing weather and during summer the sun sun does not set until after 10. Little known fact: during the baseball season, Seattle gets less rain than any Major League baseball city outside of California and Arizona. It is than nice here. Of course, when it gets dark at 4:30 in December, I never remember how good the summer was.

  4. There is a pair of KP-301s about 15-20 minutes from me. I have zero need for them, but I still want them. Decent price. I've not reached out yet...but I'm getting the shakes. Gotta find a meeting - my sponsor stopped calling me back.

  5. This is on purpose. It drives away those who don't know how to turn off their blinker. On another note, I misplaced my sponsor's number and just made made a counteroffer on a pair of KP-201s. I hope it's rejected.

  7. Born and raised. Friends and family. The weather is good. I'll take sweltering heat any day over those nasty, wet, icy winters. We had a mere 3 days of nasty, cold and icy. That's plenty enough for me. I could not envision living anywhere where that kind of weather is the norm. Cost of living is very good, too.

  8. I do not see a question mark in there. But you are right. Here especially I ask questions without knowing the answer, and I break the rule at trial all the time. Besides, we may think we know the answer but quite often we don't. Wouldn't you agree?

  9. Next project in the chute is a walnut cabinet Heresy redo. Cabinets were nicked up and water spots so doing new veneer. Pics show where I cut off the front edges of the sides, top and bottom so the motorboard is flat. Sanded paint offer and installed neo magnets using epoxy. I will cover the front with CEB and then attach new front edges and veneer the tops and sides to overlap the front edges. New 1/4" masonite grill frames with magnets epoxied in. Will post as I proceed. Here's a pic of the CEB with some alcohol spritzed on it.

I'm working on project/gift for a fellow Boston junkie and need a donor jacket. Does not matter if 1st pressing or not, but can't be new enough to have a barcode on the back.

  18. No, it is nothing dramatic. We are moving for various reasons, primarily school district for the kids. Although it is nice having a large dedicated room for a stereo, it is not in the cards for the next house. I think a pair of Palladiums, would be a great back up plan. -Tom

  22. Buy some Klipsch speakers and tell us what you think. These how do X compare to Y threads are pointless. You and the rest of us need a data point to start from. For all you know, CF-4's sound like crap, or not. Bluntly, me

  23. With your specific problem I can't think of a better place than a Klipsch Pilgrammage for an intervention. Three days surrounded by Klipsch speakers, watching them being built, hearing the newest cinema line, concert Klipsch at Rodney's, yeah, that should break you of the habit.

  26. I agree but not because of the weather. OK that was mean. But yeah you get about 50 and we get about 40. But you get hurricanes and that really is cheating. Should not count. I had no idea you got that much. And the humidity, plus it is in Texas, and plus it is Houston. Why does anyone live there?
    2 points
  27. We tend to get that amount per year. I really like our balance between rain/clouds/sun. I think Houston is like a tropical paradise but without the paradise.

  30. I need a sponsor. I just “won” a second pair of Heresy this month on eBay. This afternoon I met the young middle school band director at the duplex I’m rehabbing so she could see and hear the first Heresys won this month. I guess her mother never warned her against meeting strange men in empty buildings. Naturally, she was impressed. “They’re much better than the computer speakers that ‘crackle’ when turned up,” she said. I assured her we could put together a system for less than $1,000. I’ll let my son have first choice between the first pair and this pair. I showed her my older son’s faux-pro Heresy as an example of what the school’s will look like. Dave @wvu80 do you monitor eBay sales to populate your spreadsheet with data? Contact me if you need numbers on my two recent Heresy purchases on eBay.

  34. I don't believe that he did that as a stunt. The speedo was blurred bc he was speeding, look at the car he passes just before the wobble. Tank slappers happen for a few reasons and unless the bike has a steering dampener, then the rider probably won't have time to correct it. Yes, he went under the truck. There are several videos of people getting squished because they crashed under a truck. This guy got very lucky that day. A youtube of tank slappers.

  41. I agree with this. Bob was a great guy to deal with when I was contemplating buying a new tube amp. He answered questions on weekends and late at night and was always most helpful. I bought and built the ST-70 using 6550 tubes and wired mine for using the 4 and 8 ohm taps. It's not given me a hint of trouble and I have only bought a couple of different rectifier tubes to have around; one being the Ruby GZ34 and the other the Genelic Gold Lion that's currently in. I've got a Genelic in the center position and a pair of RCA clear tops on the sides. It's a great sounding amp and dead quiet on my Klipsch inspired Belle clones.

  42. You're welcome. Sadly i havent found any replacements for them yet... i should have just kept them but felt i needed to "upgrade" to k-horns & used the sale of teh epics to go towards them. Dont get me wrong, the k-horns are great speakers & ive lusted after them since i was a teenager, but in my small basement with higer power solid state "mid-fi" gear they dont sound as good as they could/should. but hopefully someday soon i will have a better location for them & better gear. Chorus2's are excellent speakers but i dont think they are better than the cf-4... 2 12" woofers move a lot more air than a single 15" woofer, & the epics are tuned to go lower & its really noticeable at higher volumes. the epics are a hard act to follow, especially considering all the points i mentioned above. all in all they are one of the best speakers klipsch made & in some ways better than any speakers they made. IMO

  43. Are they bi-amp speakers? In other words, two sets of binding posts on the back? Maybe make sure the connections on the jumpers are tight if you are only plugging one set of wires to them. If not, maybe the crossover or the tweeter.

  47. Hello gang! Just thought I would let you know, that I have high resolultion scans of the PAS-2 and Mark III manuals on order and they should be here any day. I think this will come in handy, and will be a nice addition to this vintage trio. Speaking of which. Craig, there has been NO talk about updating/replacing components in the PAS-2 ! I assume that the selenium rectifier should at least go.. Are there caps in there that should be replaced also? Appreciate the help. Thank-you ! ...Gary

  48. Ok Bruce. I will look up some kind of paint to use, probably a black satin/semi-gloss perhaps? Ok on your new front end board for the ST-70.... Keep us posted. Still cleaning up the MK-III bottom case covers now, coming out pretty nicely. Its the veritcal surfaces that really took a hit with discoloring I'm afraid. I put clear tape over the date stamps however, so, as seen in the photos, they WILL be preserved [].. Take care..............more to come! .......Gary

  49. The Dynaco Mark III is a completely different beast! what works or is needed on the ST-70 will not work or is not necessary on the Mark III. This is the case with both your examples... Not trying to be rude just trying stop possible mistakes before the happen. Craig
