  1. Mike, I watched that show when i was a kid. I think there were regional announcers ... in Los Angeles, it was the legendary Chick Hearn.

  3. This band from the 70s shares the same name with a different more famous classical / rock / jazz band that formed later by classical guitarist John Williams This three piece band from Detroit only released 2 albums However the drummer left shortly after the first album and was replaced The bass / vocalist later went on to form the famous band The Knack The album I am spinning is the debut album and is very listenable, presented in a pop / rock genre but not mushy Artist - Sky Title - Don’t Hold Back US pressing - Released 1970 Cat # LSP4457

  5. I worked for JackCook [managed the Showboat in LV] for a while. He'd see me coming up from the pit "Bill, Street shoes, house balls and I'll give you 25 pins" "You're on. Keep the 25. I don't wanna hear it when/if I beat you" that man could throw one ball and make the right adjustment. I learned a lot from him. And had fun doing it. I didn't start bowling until I was almost 40. Not where I had an idea ...

  6. at Lihue I carried 185 and was competitive. the house shots, now day, is toooooooooo easy. Send it toward the gutter with a little stuff.. We call it HelenKeller. Not "area", a whole time zone. takes the fun out of the game. I'm not good enough to play with the big boys and local/house bowling is boring. We play with house balls [the old black rubber ones], to make it fun... and still pop 200's "Working" at the lanes was a lot of fun. I miss it.

  8. Thanks Rockhound. Already have them sanded clean, front trim cut off, magnets installed in motorboard and new grill frames (with magnets) ready. Going to veneer with rosewood including the fronts. Should look nice. I'll post redo progress on new thread. Ken

  10. That was an amazing shot to win it all. I jumped out of my chair and scared my poor dogs half to death. What a game! I'm happy for ND and sad for MSU at the same time. The Bulldogs came up short 2 years in a row (their win over UConn last year was just as jaw-dropping as this year's Final Four).

  13. Sorry about your wishy washy Marantz. Possible cold sodder cracked, loose connection of some sort maybe. Not anything that is necessarily an integrated amp problem. If you really like the amp, check on Marantz site to see where nearest authorized repair center is and give them a call. Often times you take or send it in and they will provide a detailed estimate of repair cost. Usually a non refundable diagnostic fee(+/- $75.00) will be assessed and applied to overall cost if you decide to let them do the work. If not, they keep the fee and send you back the amp. Do you have someone local that could take a look? Bill

  17. ...seen here is the VERY heavy card stock and polished inner sleeve. It really is as heavy as the album outer cover! The high polish on the surface is seen here with the reflection of the Hall's spotlighting... The vinyl itself showing some center label detail... All that dust and specs get removed BEFORE play, trust me

  22. not on the shot we laid out in HI. Not brickyard ... but, if you threw a bad ball, you were justly "rewarded". High average in the house was 200. We didn't play the 10 - 10 wallyball. You would call it a juicy sport shot.

  23. maybe on occasion ... i realized that i was mediocre when i noticed after 87 games my average was 213 and I the third best ON MY TEAM and the worst male on the team. Five bowler teams, had to have at least two females per team. Anchor man was in the 230s, other guy was either 222 or 227. on occasion, we all got hot and put up some good scores.

  24. I had an Ebonite wolf ball [I think a timberwolf]. My money ball. It was the right color, too. Green. BST you would have loved HI. You could make decent just bowling league pots. A person could walk out after a league night $1000+ Watched some of the Kareem/BruceLee vid. Mr Lee could use Kareem's jewels for a speed bag. A "low blow" was shoulder height for Lee

  26. they work very well. ironically, it was my ball, a Hammer, that rolled off a 4ft high shelf and landed on my big toe. I bowled that night ... after 1/2 bottle of schnapps. I gained a nickname at Lihue that night --- MushToe no. Steel toed boots are not typically worn. Sneakers are standard fare.

  28. Major Matt Mason. I had a pretty big collection. I also had a nice version of The Robot from Lost in Space. I went straight from that into models. I still have a model of the SR-71 that I never got around to building.

  31. At this moment I'm listening to LaScalas' through the XA and Wyred STP SE preamp, a passive/active design. At low levels for LS it runs in passive but has much more drive than a traditional or even a buffered passive. Has as much if not more capacitance than most power amps and uses a resistor relay volume control. This combination is quite sublime yet has the drive and full top to bottom balance at low levels. A great combo for LS.

  32. They're not unbeatable though. You live by the 3, you die by the 3. If they're as hot tonight as they were Saturday then it won't be close. If those bombs don't go in, then Michigan has a very real chance. Michigan is great with offensive execution, but they can't be trading 2's for 3's.

  34. (said a bit tongue in cheek) Build a Jubilee bass bin, set the Heresy on top and biamp them. When you want a larger speaker, you'll already have the bass bins built! (pardon the dust)

  40. Hardware cloth, I'm amazed how many people at the box stores and even hardware stores do not know what that is.

  41. The tech arrived and we diagnosed the problem. The 90 year-old metal heat registers are at the stripper in Romulus near DTW airport to remove decades of lead paint. BTW, the other kind of strippers are also near the airport. Apparently, NIMBY applies to both kinds. IMO, unwarranted concern the cats would crawl into the uncovered ducts and fall to their doom, prompted the human occupants to block the ducts, which prevented heat from entering the apartment, while tripping an overload switch, which prevented the burner from igniting. I’ll put hardware cloth over the openings until the registers are back. While I think even cats are smart enough to not crawl into the furnace, the guards will prevent the smell of burning cats from permeating the dwelling, just in case.

  42. If anyone is seriously considering these, just buy the center too. You will regret not getting it, even if you just plan on two channel because that can change. I started 2 channel and now have Palladium surround. The center is awesome for movies and TV. No disappointment. If Klipsch had marketed these under a different name (like Toyota / Lexus) this line would have sold like crazy. The Audio-snobs just don't like "Best Buy Brands" although I can say that I prefer these to the B&W 800 series.
