  4. Back from daughters house, Forte's and sub installed with receiver and BR player. Got everything balanced and set, this took a while. It amazing the huge differences a room can make, it was kind of shocking. The Phase on that sub here was set at 0, over there it's 180, also where I put the gain on the sub here did little over there, here it was at about 10 am at least noon to 1pm over there. The room is bigger here but shaped completely different, here is on a slab with a raised wood floor over there. But it worked out and some girls were dancing, and most of the raised floor in the house was vibrating pretty good, alot in that room, they are happy and I got some space in the laundry room back. 👍

  5. Don't make his head get any bigger, next thing he will be putting sparkly things on his one shaking glove like Michael Jackson and moon walking as he make a martini. 😎 Now try and get that picture out of your head.

  18. Brilliance is Treble, presence is lower end. On older speakers they both should be set "flat" which is in the middle of the dial, so in this case set them both to #5. This will keep from causing damage to the old components still inside those speakers....such as woofer surrounds, tweeter diaphragms, and such.

  20. Our good Ohio mailman rings the doorbell sometimes, that's nice with the house to myself for a couple of days. Starting off with the studio tracks, if the puck doesn't drop too early on me I'll get to the one I've been looking forward to.

  24. This guy is science/medicine based. He is pretty good at separating the wheat from the chaff. This video is just one example, he tells you if Sports Drinks are beneficial and how much you should drink before and during exercise. In this particular video, only six minutes long, he also mentions who authored a study that says that sports drinks can be beneficial in certain circumstances.

  26. One of the biggest draws to a tube amp is the ability to customize the sound to the end users taste by cap upgrades, tube changes or perhaps power supply swaps within a circuit s design. Of course this isn't the most cost effective way to make a change in sound, but it does change the sound. I don't love the fact that I choose to buy a consumable (tubes) to try and capture a sound, but finding a great combination of tubes is very satisfying... and the trouble is, the exact same tube made at roughly the same period by the same manufacturer can sound different. I think we've broached the subject of whether or not we are listening to music or if we are in fact listening to equipment... I think it's a bit of both for me personally. I am so impressed with the performance of certain systems that it's almost impossible to not be a bit of an "equipment listener". If folks listen to some proponents, it's more important to save money (lowest common denominator) and be satisfied with an acceptable level of performance than it is to seek the depth of the "rabbit hole".

  27. --- I think Shu hit the nail on the head - for many listeners "difference" and " improvement" are interchangeable moving pieces in the evolution of a system. With nearly every change made comes a difference - an improvement? sometimes yes, sometime no. And if you spend enough you can be " fooled" to thinking the difference is an improvement. The better the rig becomes the more difficult true improvements come which = more expensive.

  29. SOMEtimes I just go with my gut and listen to HIM! I found that out LONG ago... Today was truly one of those days: Almost 12k graduating from THEE OSU, yup 5 rows abreast coming in from both sides at the South end of the Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio... Marissa where are you??? "Just coming in the South end tunnel Dad" But WHERE? WHICH SIDE??? No reply... The ranks were breaking up and spreading out all over the North end of the stadium finding their seats. Then a couple minutes later I look down the steps and BOOM! She was as suprised as I was! CONGRATULATIONS TO MY BUCKEYE! You GO BUCKS girl!!! DONE & EARNED! (Don't ask about the future... Last time I did she said she was flying to LA to talk about a job. I DO know she spent a couple days at Coachella! HAHAHA!!!)

  30. +1 on that post. I’m not opposed to their use on tweeters. I use fixed L-pads for those who request them (though I prefer Al’s autoformer based tweeter attenuator). I also still build a network that uses the swamping resistor on the autoformer, which allows for on the fly midrange adjustment - a useful feature for those who are using different horns and drivers. For stock configurations, I prefer the unadulterated Type AA. This just seemed like an interesting discussion to participate in. If I’d know it was going to get nasty - I would have drank more Boubon.

  32. You dropped a dumb bell on a binding post and then get mad at the binding post for breaking? That's the same logic my wife uses on me, she's the dumb bell and I'm the binding post! 🤮 (new smileys!) 🎃🎯🔚 (if you can't get to a new paragraph after using one of the new smileys, use the space bar instead of the arrow keys. Glitches already. ⛔) Anyway, I am also doing a DIY project with the Speakons. The one @DizRotus posted is the original Neutrik brand speakon. Highly recommended. 👍 The Neutrik is higher quality than the knock-offs IMO for just a couple dollars more. You make your own cables which uses a Pozidrive screw as the speakons are screw-in types, not solder connections. They are as easy to build and use as banana plugs only more secure. Use the banana (or bare wire) on one end and a speakon for the other. Easy-peasy. The cables are really easy to make but make sure you have a Pozidrive bit or screwdriver, PZ0 in this case. They are hard to find locally, don't use a Phillips head (4 slot) instead of the PZ0 (8-slot).
