A belated welcome back! We need to plug in the room height to get the cubic feet. 12x14 only gives us 168 square feet. If you have a standard 8 foot ceiling, your room would be 1344 cubic feet. At 94w/1m/1w in a 1344 cu. ft. room of average liveness, and your kg 3.5s, you would need (very approximately) 15 watts to produce the Dolby/THX reference level of 105 dB peaks above 80 Hz. Dolby/THX cinema standards expect you to have a separate, powered, subwoofer to do the heavy lifting below 80 Hz, and produce peaks up to 115 dB (below 80 Hz). If you get a 52 watt vintage Marantz, instead of the 20 watt one, and if the 52 watt rating is "for real," as they used to say back when that amp was made, you would get nearer to 109 dB peaks. Paul Klipsch estimated that you need 115 dB very brief peaks "at your ears to produce the blood stirring levels of a symphony orchestra." IMO, your speakers might have a very hard time going there, at least safely. Most people would be happy with the 109 dB peaks you probably can get, but since you want to use your system as a "back up band," while you play electric guitar, and you used the word "loud" three times in your post ... Guitar amps (and their speakers) permit horrendous distortion, which the players use artistically (one hopes), and they use special heavy duty speakers that can take it. So your guitar audio doesn't have to obey the rules that your 2 channel listening audio must heed. For instance, the JBL D130 and D130A were pretty hardy, but a D130F was specially made to take guitar assault. The Greatfull Dead used these, plus some pretty delicate tweeters, but used a few more than usual: Approximate Cost $275,000 Acceptable Sound Quality At 1/4 Mile and you could hear it more than a mile away depending on wind. (11) Separate Sound Channels (89) 300-Watt Solid State Amplifiers (3) 350-Watt Vacuum Tube Amplifiers Total Watts = 26,400 (RMS) Total Weight = 75 Tons (586) JBL Loudspeakers (54) Electrovoice Tweeters4 points

I spent a total of 10 hours with him in his museum, his house, his lab, the plant, his Mercedes, and we had lunch and dinner at 2 different establishments, including his local Rotary Club for lunch. A fine gentleman who treated me like his long lost grandson (he was the same age as my grandma). For dinner, he drove my wife and I out of town to the Pioneer Kitchen, where the lady opened up her place just for us and our wives (4 of us in the entire place) and had some home made vittles! Yeah, it was very special for a lifetime memory. I learned a lot that day, including the fact that he found it hard to believe that his company had grown so large, which was only 20 Million/year at the time. Oh, and one more thing............at the pioneer kitchen, I made a really good portrait of him with a porch corner in the background. One of the best in my career as a photographer, if I do say so myself.3 points

Not "great photography," just a phone picture of my completed stereo rig. Lens on the right is a fixed 35mm. On the left, an 18-55 zoom. Learned to calibrate them by framing objects with straight lines that are just at infinite focus range. Then, I fine tune the zoom to the fixed lens framing. I set to manual focus to ensure neither lens moves from infinite. After that, I can shoot as many different pix as I want as long as they are infinite focus. Next sunny day (nice out, but overcast) I am going downtown on a stereo expedition. This is fun! And, yes, Iain (Seti) has a stereo camera. Turns out he dropped by yesterday to pick up a hard drive of PWK's recordings for the KMAH. Short, but good visit! What's more strange is that he has an identical Keystone to mine. It was the first time either of us was aware of any more Keystones. Strange... Dave3 points

Cilantro? No, but they do have a lovely raw wood smell. I was planning on staining them, but they do complement our furnishings and decor quite nicely so I may just seal them with shellac after a light sand. The book matched raw ash veneer is quite stunning really. I've ordered some speaker cloth swatches so in the meantime I'll crack on with making the tilted risers and the grille frames. By the way, the grille frames from the 1.5s are a tad small and the cutouts don't quite match those of the III. I have some 6mm marine 5ply left over from a boatbuilding project which will be perfect for the frames. At this point, I'm thinking that a magnet fixing will be nice. Ronco still has a few of these left. Personally, I think they are bargains if you a little handy and can make the grill covers and risers.3 points

Picked up a pair of Klipsch Epic CF-3 v1 today. Issues with the bass on one, but got a great deal. Now I need to do a little investigation into the crossovers determined it was a woofer shorted out. Plus, they were only 10 minutes from my house.2 points

Yes, AlNiCo will demagnetize from high power (strong field strength from the voice coil), shock (dropping, bumping too hard) or old age. Some labs can test them. Measuring output vs. voltage can tell. And loss of high frequencies is an indication. Great Plains Audio can magnetize /remagnetize some drivers, perhaps K-77, too.2 points

I'll see if I can spot the can of poly when they apply it. The installer said to keep the door open today to let the fumes out but I got paranoid after seeing the neighbors cats mulling around. I shut the door and will deal with the fumes later. I figured that was better than paw prints in it.2 points

The jumpers would be where the terminal is. It'd be tied red-to-red, black-to-black. Are you referring to a setting on your amp? Klipsch don't have adjustable impedance.2 points

The Forte III has a sensitivity of 99 dB at 2.83 volts at 1 Meter (39.37 inches away), "In an average listening room" (the footnote on the spec sheet). If you play music very loudly. and you have "an average listening room" (not huge, i.e. 4,000 cu. ft., or less), neither too live nor too dead, and you sit about 10 to 15 feet away, and the speakers are near a wall (see instructions that came with the speaker) or other source of boundary gain, you should be fine. Out in such a room, at such a listening position, 100 watts would produce about 110 dB, which is louder than a sane person would ever want to go for more than an instant. I've gone there for a very occasional peak for just an instant (just a touch of a needle swing) with the loudest Mahler or Beethoven climax. As far as "instantaneous peaks" (well named), a matter of milliseconds, Klipsch says the Forte is good to 400 watts. Don't push it, though. Most speaker "blow outs" occur because somebody plugs or unplugs a cable between a preamp and amp, or source (phono, tape, CDplayer, etc.) and preamp or receiver, with the power on. I always unplug everything concerned before messing with those RCA style plugs. Other sources of trouble are test tones that are pumped in at too high a level (primarily into a tweeter or midrange), electronic music, parties in which the wrong person grabs the volume control, especially when in Altered State, etc., or loaning your equipment out for a "Dance at the Gym." You have an incredibly high quality system there!2 points
