  1. Finally. Proud new owner of Cornwall IV's in American Walnut. I should have done this a long time ago. Purchased from local dealer, ListenUp. Though ListenUp is not a Certified Heritage Dealer, they sell the whole line and had them in stock. Some 30 years ago I purchased a pair of Forte II's from this dealer, from a salesman named Gary. Why I remember that, I don't know. So I called them up, on a Thursday, asked for Gary (he's still there, though higher up in the food chain, I'm sure!). "Can you have them at my house tomorrow, cuz I'm going out of town Saturday?" He told me that he had to get them from the warehouse in Denver (I'm in Colorado Springs). He guaranteed me he would get them to my house if he had to deliver them himself. Next day he shows up in he own car, a Nissan Cube or something like that. He laughed and said his car is apparently designed to perfectly fit a pair of Cornwalls. These things are truly glorious! My hopes/expectations were sky high. They have been met. This is the best sound I have ever had. Ever.

  5. @MicroMara I couldn’t keep you hanging to long Something in jazz funk Artist - The Chris Hinze Combination Title - Sister Slick Album ID - https://www.discogs.com/The-Chris-Hinze-Combination-Sister-Slick/release/7909687 More info Chris Hinze Combination was presented internationally 1971 in the Casino at Lake Geneva during the Montreux Jazz Festival. From then on Chris Hinze went on the road all over Europe. Mainly American musicians joined the Combination, like John Lee, Gary Brown, Charlie Mariano, James Batton, Kevin Eubanks and many others. As the setting changed through the years, 'Combination' turned out to be an extremely apropriate name, since Hinze is always searching for new influences, interacting with musicians from other cultures, changing members of the Chris Hinze Combination for new tours and albums.

  9. Pulled up some Floyd earlier for a post and that held me for a while but only in 720 so I could not crank it as much on the pc. Not sure but think it was upstate Mike that turned me on to these guys here a couple years ago... time to pull up the bookmark, and I put it on the new edge browser because it does sound better through that compared to my D:\Program Files\Chromium Primo! *Things are crazy for me on the pc right now, can't post the vid, just the linky. Can do this and I did turn the amp up to 1:00

  16. There were discussions several years ago, right after forum member Boxx passed away, about having a memorial section on the forum. I think we should do that. I guess it could be just a regular old thread that is pinned in a certain spot. I envision something like the past forum members name and avatar and people could post a message about that person. I think it was Dave @Mallette that came up with the idea of calling it "OFFLINE" obviously meaning that the person isn't posting anymore. we talk a lot of trash here, so why not devote a small section to remember some of our fallen brethren? I'd really like these folks remembered in a special way and I think this would not only be a nice gesture to our departed friends, but a blessing to their family and friends that could read some nice comments about their loved one. Ideas anyone?

  35. @Full Range you and I are both huge prog guys. YES being my favorite prog band, hands down by far; but I've always loved The Monkees since I was a little kid -- and still enjoy that music today. As an adult and a guitar player, I've discovered why ... while the first two albums were strictly session musicians, these were some of the best session musicians in the business. Many of the famed Wrecking Crew from the 60s played on Monkees albums ... the likes of Glen Campbell, Louie Shelton, Carol Kaye ... just top shelf musicians. TWO YEARS before The Monkees, Mike Nesmith had already written the song Different Drum that Linda Ronstadt made famous. Peter tork was jamming with Stephen Stills (who ironically tried out for the monkees himself and encouraged Peter to try out too). Simple pop music; but done very well and by some big players. Another guy on monkees albums, (the late) bassist Larry Taylor from the rock band Canned Heat. A lot more to the music than just some bubble gum pop.

  36. Good to hear your water is safe to drink. To my astonishment, my pool equipment survived. My neighbors on both sides were not so fortunate (photos below). When the power went off and the temp was 2F, I placed a Mr. Heater propane camping heater under the tarp covering my equipment, and then placed a 60 lb steel plate in front of the heater to absorb an reradiate the heat. When the plate was hot, I reduced the heater to just running the pilot flame. I really didn't think that would be enough considering the duration of the low temp, but I got lucky. 41. I've had Forte III's sustaining 110 db with only a 45 watt half sized Marantz receiver, playing bass boosted Eminem. So yeah they thump. But the Eminem songs I was playing was pretty low, most of his stuff is low 30 hz, Killshot for example is 27 hz. The problem is that passive radiators work like ports, and if we consider what ports do, well they stop doing much of anything once you get to an octave above the tuning frequency. I suspect that by the time you get to about 70 hz they're just not doing much. That's not to say that they don't produce bass or that they can't thump but rock music in particularly with the kick drums is all about the punchy 60-80 hz area and I'm just saying that I don't think the radiator is doing quite as much as people think it is once you get up that high. Even without a rear firing radiator you still ideally need a wall behind you for it to sound punchy though. It's not ideal either way.

  45. You hit the nail on the head @Dave1291. What a musical journey with the refurbished tube mono amps. These have never sounded so fantastic. Tested some new tubes and used ECC 88 from Siemens in Munich and 5814A from Philips USA; 829B Tetrode from RCA ,GEZ 34 rectifier from Siemens and 12BH7A from "EI" former Yugoslavia, I also still have to test here. Since I had to take a longer community break to listen to me with the new tubes. Since we had a lot of snow, it all fit together. Now the spring comes back, we had already 68 Fahrenheit in the last few days, we spend much time outside......

  46. Glad I didn't have a mouthful of water when I read that! I also think you're spot on with your thoughts. It's just how the majority of his works are. He, like almost all artists that have survived the test of time,, thought for himself, which in turn inspired him to do his thing. That's why his stuff has hung with many fans for decades. They're all like that though in many ways. Whatever resonates whether it be the lyrics, the composition or the instruments used. That heavy metal fan though? hahahahaha
