  8. I don´t listen to Hip-Hop or Rap myself much (except old-school stuff like Grandmaster Flash or Sugar Hill Gang.), but this stuff is just hilarious. How times change, in the 80´s people were "shocked", today nobody gives a damn.

  10. Sucks here when that video is "unavailable" but good evening George. They look great sitting there doin their thang though. Prolly sound great too. @AndreG.ya hit me hard w/that Scorps lp. The ONE lp I want is their show w/the Berliner Philharmonic Orchestra. Only on cd around here, which I have but man what an amazing cd. I'd have to buy 3 copies so I could give my girls one. Was so much fun listening to that on vacay w/my girls and ex. She hated it but the girls loved it. Just cruising down the road singin "Rock Me Like a Hurricane" was classic! What an amazing show that would have been! Hope I get it on vinyl before I'm pushin up dandelions somewhere. lol

  12. I could not be happier with the new capacitor replacement kits from JEM. Listening to a pair side by side (one uncapped and the other with new caps) has a noticeable difference. The uncapped one sounded a bit “muddy”. Well worth the time, money and effort to recap them.

  13. Ah. Cool. A PDF on the website shows where one can do a 'leather look'. I have a wall in my living room that is painted red & black faux leather. This is the ticket. THANK YOU!

  14. I hate to interject in this thread (because the screw topic doesn't concern me, and I have nothing of much value to contribute), but I'm curious - specifically which screws are the issue? I assume it's any screws near/in the crossover, but does this include mounting screws? Cabinet assembly screws? Are all Klipsch crossovers after a certain year using SS fasteners (let's say AK3 and AK4 crossovers)? I will add that irrespective of actual measurements taken as outlined in this thread, if I were concerned about this issue, I would avoid metal of all types. Just from my own industrial experience, any substance that can conduct electricity does have some level of impact on magnetic fields. To what degree depends on the material, and how that translates into attenuating audio frequencies I defer to those that are experimenting and taking the measurements.

  15. Thanks for all of the great input. As a new guy here I never expected 5 pages of discussion and the tremendous amount of help that was provided by y'all. Many thanks for the tip on JEM; my first (of many to come) transactions with him was perfect. Now to the screw. This is (to my ears, at least, I hear nuances in music very well, more than most people I know) different with a stainless screw in place. I have to get some brass screws to further my investigation. As I stated before the output is crisper, brighter, but not 'trebly'. Hard to explain; but noticeable. Perhaps more 'presence' is the word I am groping for. Two of the 6 have been recapped and stainless screws are in place. Next in line for those 2 is some light sanding and a good exterior paint job that might match the original finish. Still looking for further advice on that avenue.

  18. Finally 99.6% completed. There are only two things I would change so not too bad. This was a hard learning experience and I will never build exactly like this again 8-) Here is the recap. Built this mono tube amplifier for the Klipsch Museum with the much help from Chris Hornbeck and Intact Audio. It was a found schematic from the Klipsch archives for the #1 Klipschorn from 1945/46. It is a push pull triode 5 watt amp with built in electronic crossover. It is made specifically for the first klipschorn. The first khorn bass horn featured a Jensen A12PM and the HF a prototype horn with a Western Electric 555… Amazing. This is a gift it to the #1 Khorn and Klipsch Museum for PWK's birthday in March so maybe next years birthday we will be able to listen to the #1 khorn as they did at a party to celebrate the end of WW2. Not sure how long this build took but it was worth it. BTW it is a 5wpc and it does go to 11 as did the orginal in 1945/46… Dave Slagle of Intact Audio studied PWK's electronic crossover design and donated all the transformers. The top plate and front plate are from Front Panel Express. Jim Hunter found the an early PWK signature and Matt Sommers made that into a logo. We still have some final adjustments and some testing to do but it is largely done. I love the old HAM chassis and buy them as I see them. A great way to wrap up a project. It is DIY so it ain't perfect. Hope @Chief bonehead approves 8-) Early in the testing process.

  24. Calling for 3-5 here tomorrow. Had to blow a couple inches out yesterday so here we go! Gotta love the electric start on this big Cub Cadet blower I bought a couple years ago. Figured I'd better go into my cover my rear mode when I bought it. Climate change? All I know is there isn't as much snow here as there as there used to be and my hands won't fit a snow shovel anymore. Filled every gas can I have when the prices were low so bring it! Always nice when you can flip that calendar over to the month of Feb and even better when ya flip it to March. No oranges here so ya just throw down all the vitamin C and D ya can. 😂

  26. Since I like Supertramp a lot, I still have to get this one. As Your quote says, the music is quite different from what they did in the later 70´ies and early 80´ies. Interesting!
    2 points
  27. Ha! Why not? Their first from 1970 then the lineup changes over the years? Supertramp were one of the first groups to be signed to the UK branch of A&M Records and their first album, Supertramp, was released on 14 August 1970. Stylistically, the album was fairly typical of progressive rock of the era. Despite receiving a good deal of critical praise, the album did not attract a large audience.[12] Basically a zilllion changes in the line up but Roger Hodgson survived as a co-founder along with Rick Davies. Many great albums left Hodgson has survived and is still working when he wants to. Great album if you ask me! Enjoy!

  31. Would a nylon bolt or screw suffice. Pretty certain that it would. Mentioned this in another thread. A control measurement with no bolt or screw. Then, measure away. Thanks!☕

  32. No smoothing. This is as dirty as it gets. This is the actual voltage across the K-77M. All of them start out around 18db per octave. The slope steepens up to the peak voltage point. I think this is due to the fact that this is an underdamped high pass filter??? Mike

  33. I may have been one of those that said Klipsch ran out of brass screws and intentionally used steel until stock restored. Could as well have been some newbie or careless veteran just grabbed the wrong box of screws from the supply room. S**t happens. No real harm done, I am sure owner was well satisfied listening with steel screw for decades without an issue. Just replace with brass if found in your network and be more happy with your speakers.

  34. So duct tape isn't the way to go? Are you sure you are from Texas? How the magnetic screws got in there in the first place it appears will be a mystery wrapped up in an enigma as it wasn't PWK's doing. This was before Chief Bonehead (BCB), and Mr. Hunter replied in the other thread he doesn't know how they got there (well in a funny round about way, he didn't deny that happened but didn't admit it either) and said "doubtful" there would be any documentation. @Ed Wolinski Mr. Ed, there is your answer on the screw. So now it is paint, etc.? Thanks for the topic, I learned a great deal along the way.

  35. Any screw that magnetic will not work. And no pwk did not design it that way. Use a non magnetic screw.

  36. The only difference between the two networks is that the Type E reverses polarity for the mid range driver.

  37. @Travis In Austin @Giarc60 The D Network is original , although it's extremely rare with these round capacitors , you can see this by the metal holders of the capacitors and no other holes in the wooden board to indicate that these were an Add-on the Driver combination is the Alnico round magnet K-77/EV T-35 tweeter , the K-55M Alnico Midrange driver -the Badge is the PWK Pie badge . the woofers can be - 2 types A)- the orange surround K-22 woofer /EV SP-12B or B- the Alnico K-22

  38. This confused me 🤔. Luckily, I found a 245uh and a 345uh inductor, so I ran tests across a K-77M. The blue plot is a 245uh inductor. The green plot (little hard to see) is the same 245uh inductor with a nail through the middle to bring it up to 345uh. The red plot is an actual 345uh inductor. Surprised me to find out that the 245uh plus nail isn't even close to the 345uh! Mike

  39. Just a point of correction: mH is milliHenry; 1/1,000 Henry. uH (more correctly µH) is microHenry; 1/1,000,000 (one millionth) Henry. 1 Henry is a really big inductor.

  40. The shunt inductor on the AA tweeter circuit controls the amount of current passing through the driver. It's impedance increases with frequency. It's really acting like a high pass filter. As frequency decreases, more current will pass through the shunt inductor, and less current will pass through the driver. As frequency increases, less current will pass through the shunt inductor, and more current will pass through the driver. The larger the inductor, the sooner in frequency the current across the driver will peak. Yes...it's the T2A autoformer, which is a 21.2mh inductor across the squawker.

  41. Welcome to the Forum. I don't know the technical intricacies on the differences between the two X0s ("D" and "E") but I can tell you what they will need to answer your questions with precision. If you can photograph the labels with serial numbers, and the insides of each speakers showing the tweeter and squawker drivers this will help them to ensure that you have what is supposed to be in there for that year, etc. Then they will be able to tell you what you need to do to have them acoustically identical. JEM Electronics will probably be able to tell you what the differences are between the D and E are in terms of parts. @OO1Randy, can you tell from the crossovers and year what drivers should be in there? Once all of that is pinned down then the Historian and others can tell you what you might be able to do to get these identical, using Klipsch approved parts and drivers. Travis

  42. It was the 3rd party peddlers who started getting into the speaker business. Some even used Klipsch derived trademarked names for their speaker names. Last year the culture with regard to peddlers became divisive. Remember that word, divisive. It defeats the primary purpose f the Forum, a friendly place for enthusiasts to gather. I am a pretty simple guy, if a peddler is causing factions and divisions, remove the peddler from the equation. The audacity of Klipsch to consider the peddlers’ involvement, mention, discussions unwelcome on their Forum. It goes back over 20 years. It was just the way it was addressed has changed. (I’m a stickler about it and handle it proactively. I don’t wait for it to simmer or fester, I nip it. Occasionally I ask for clarification from Chad, Roy, others, but haven’t needed to for 4 or 5’years). I have been working on changing the name of Technical to remove “mods”’for 3 years, but Covid hit, etc. So blame me for that transition. When Roy got more active in moderation a couple of years ago he started to see the amount of utter bullshit being tossed. Around that coincided with a dealer complaining about the sound of a 3rd party cap supplier/speaker peddler’s kit changing the sound. That brought back authorized cap kits, and crossover rebuilds. Then the games, a race to post a link to JEM, Dean or a peddler. Like this is a place shill peddlers. I just started deleting the gratuitous peddler posts. Again, blame me. I have seen posts on here Re the changes that say it’s Voxx, it’s Corporate, it’s bean counters, it’s Roy. Nope, it’s one guy with a little knowledge of IP, r&d costs and how they need to be amortized for a company to survive, sticking to the primary goal of making this a warm friendly place for enthusiasts simply calling balls and strikes the best he can and passing major calls to Chad and Roy for feedback All that being said, I have always welcomed input. I get 10 to 20’ PMs a week regarding the Forum related to policy,’terms of service, etc. There are about 20 here who will reach out with suggestions, thoughts, impressions or questions on why this or why that. I respond to each and every one. Sometimes the response is they totally agree, sometimes they adamantly disagree, respectfully. Where it’s uncharted territory I always bring in a KGI person so it’s not just my point of view (which I known is heavily biased and so I account for that). Regardless of the outcome, invariably a myth or misconception that is floating in the Forum ether is corrected and/or a note of thanks for responding. The Forum has been in existence for so long there there is now Forum Folklore that has emerged. You will see one of those folktales corrected in my next post. It’s common and natural for the folklore to develop because 1) we all have cognitive bias, we see what our brains want to see and filter out the rest (this is hardwired into our brains for survival, all we can do is be aware of it and actively seek to minimize it). The other is 2) the historical point in which people enter the Forum (or how far back they can actively recall past events in the Forum. So yeah, when 3rd party peddlers started getting into the speaker building business it diverts, substantially, from the original primary purpose.
