Just a small HELLO from me , things ´re in good progress with the new apartment, think I need two more weeks to get the main works finished, than I´ll have more time for you ...I´m wondering while I read here ..is there anything that I missed ? Can it be that @JohnJ is visiting @Dave1291 in Duckberg ? And do they both spending a crazy good time together ? Or am I wrong ?4 points

@KROCK I love your 1210 GAE 😍 Miles' LP too ! I am trying to replace my TEAC and I want to buy an SL-1210G: I am waiting for commercial proposals from the sellers 😉4 points

Well, you guys do know I've called @Dave1291 the DJ for a while now. This record collection is out of control !!! Found a lot of winners in here, played a few today... last two were "Blues For Allah" and "Frampton's Camel" Both of those are favorites of mine.. the Dead's since the eighties, that Frampton since I got it a couple years ago! https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=2R1spEzVd4w&list=OLAK5uy_lmVVjQHweqvEsjSIP3xcYu18yyRcKUF9g4 points

Also Made in Japan. I'd wait & get the G, My vacation check financed the GAE. Then when I retired Mike bought me the EMT.......😄3 points

Yes ! thanks @KROCK, I saw the new GR2, but I think I prefer the big G, GAE hasn't been sold for a long time, you're lucky to have such a nice one 😜3 points

Yea, that's crazy for sure. Think I'll leave this one sealed and just play the original not the 25th. Lemme know how the "3 bonus tracks" sound. Prolly have them all on some other lp's of her's w/Derek on them. Typical, I spend the big bucks then they drop the same thing. lol It's intentional, they want everyone broke. lol3 points

Picked up some groceries yesterday so he owed me a lil chump change. He'd have never found them w/o the new lil flashlight he had to buy for me @ the hardware store on the way home to get even. Of course it's a good one! 😂😂😂💪2 points

In my opinion the Mad Hatter usually pulls good stuff out of his hat. This time it´s my first VDGG. Some parts are not easy for me to listen to, 12 tone disharmonics... didn´t like it at school, this is rather demanding in some parts. Something new to me: https://www.discogs.com/release/7642717-Van-Der-Graaf-Generator-World-Record2 points

.it takes a lot more skill + attention to detail to make a perfect pair of raw birch speakers , since the finish must be flawless , the speakers are literally a work of art1 point
-
It’s funny, even though he was talking me out of it I was still close to actually still saying “nope I still want the raw birch” lol… but then I kind of wimped out and went with the sure thing 😊1 point
-
yes , and I like raw birch cause birch wood grain varies , and each pair of speakers is unique ,1 point

Nice!!!! Eventually, I may end up on the same path. Hearing them at an outside venue (Klipsch Pilgrimage) , I've put them high on my wish list. One thing I can't remember was whether or not they were playing on their own or teamed up with a big ole horned sub. Maybe Roy can remember for me!?!? @Chief bonehead Thanks JJ1 point

I've been jammin' with the M1.5t since it was restored/modded and it sounds like a completely different amplifier! I was snooping around YouTube for reviews and found one by Scott Lowell entitled "Should you buy, refurbish or upgrade vintage Carver audio products?" He discusses in some detail the nature of the process and it's effect on Carver's transfer function t modification. Bob tweaked various components in his amplifiers to null other highly respected amps. In the case of the 1.5, he nulled a Mark Levinson ML2. The restoration/mod uses components that are 40 years ahead of the original. Bob's t mod is gone. It is literally a different amplifier and in my opinion a vastly improved one. The clarity, detail, and impact have increased dramatically. I've used this amplifier exclusively since '85 and have a strong sense of before and after. I had a friend (a strong friend) bring over his Mark Levinson 27.5 100 WPC dual mono amp for a face off. We agreed it was a draw (because he's my friend). Privately, I think the beast whooped'em. Granted, the 1.5 is supposed to be 520 watts now. But our listening levels didn't put a dent in either one of them. He also recommends two Carver repair centers. I used Nelion Audio and can highly recommend them. Usually, the most you can hope for is a successful repair. In this case, I got way more than I had anticipated! I think I’m set on a Marantz 2230 now. Someone on another forum said it’s nice and warm sounding. 30 watts is enough for the Cornwalls I think.1 point

Those are great sounding horns! I have a set I got years ago. The 1inch adapters are a nice extra! Good luck with your sale!1 point

Just a short one. I stayed in El Paso 2000/ 2001 for training at the German (Air Defense) Rocket School (RakSLW). In December 2000 my sister came over to visit, and together we drove from Texas to San Francisco. We passed through New Mexico, Nevada and California. Las Vegas was dull somehow, never liked that place much, have been there twice. But our last stop, before getting to SF, was in a little town in northern CA, called Bishop. We always say that we want to visit there again some day. Stayed in SF for three days, the usual things, Alcatraz, China Town, Goden Gate and Fisherman´s Warf. SF was nice, back then, don´t know about today. We drove highway 101 on the way back, that was great! Just passed through L.A. and then back on I 10 to El Paso. All in all great trip. Death Valley is really that - DEAD, never been to place that really is quiet, so much so you hear your blood rushing through your ears...1 point

Dang @AndreG....Everly Brothers a collectors just for the music/nostalgia. In like era to the Four Seasons... BTW, is there a story about the El Paso to San Francisco... thanks.1 point

As was stated above by DE, speaker impedance is not an issue for SETs. If you use an opt tap corresponding to the lowest impedance of the speaker, distortion will decrease as the impedance rises. I believe Edcor’s bandwidth ratings are at 1 watt whereas Hammond’s are at full rated power. If used well below that, the Hammonds are capable of amazing bandwidth.
