Perfect Sense, Part I" The monkey sat on a pile of stones And he stared at the broken bone in his hand And the strains Viennese quartet Rang out across the land The monkey looked up at the stars And he thought to himself Memory is a stranger History is for fools And he cleaned his hands In a pool of holy writing Turned his back on the garden And set out for the nearest town Hold on hold on soldier When you add it all up The tears and marrowbone There's an ounce of gold And an ounce of pride in each ledger And the Germans killed the Jews And the Jews killed the Arabs And Arabs killed the hostages And that is the news And is it any wonder That the monkey's confused He said Mama Mama The President's a fool Why do I have to keep reading These technical manuals And the joint chiefs of staff And the brokers on Wall Street said Don't make us laugh You're smart kid Time is linear Memory's a stranger History's for fools Man is a tool in the hands Of the great God Almighty4 points

Wellllllll, look at George go! Looks great and prolly sounds just as sweet as it looks! Cranked out a late breakfast here now it's time for @JohnJ to serenade me. 😂 Hadn't heard this one in YEARS! From 1982 and soooo very minty! It's a cookin! Pulled the old lemme see that jacket number on him just to check it out. 😂 Now he tells me I've got two copies over there. 😂 😂 💪 "Why do you need one?" Nope ,I've got the half-speed master. 😂 Been a minute for sure. Now he's got another one that's pretty minty too he says. Like he's messin with me now. hahahaha Well that one didn't work. Jerry Garcia's first solo lp from 1972. Nice try though. Whew, thought he'd get me the second time. Can't have that happening. 😂4 points

Listening Room is finished , those speakers driving me crazy ,again & again & again 😁 hard to beat if driven with the Dynaco PAS4 Tube Pre and the Cayin Mono Tubes. The Micro Seiki DQX 1000 TT is connected as well , last sunday a friend of mine was here and we listened to vinyl only. Used the Shelter 501 III MC , we had tears in our eyes and endlessly listening pleasure . The room acoustic is outstanding , the new apartment is a brand new experience. All other rooms are in work as well . The view through the windows is fantastique , I can see miles into the depth from the landscape ..WOW4 points

Sorry, if there’s one of these already, I didn’t find one sorting through the search function. With the growing popularity of these speakers I thought it overdue for an owners thread …..please post your pictures, thoughts, ideas, and anything else. Do most of you run just them on the floor, or do you use any kind of custom stands? Have any of you added feet? If so, I’d love to see some pictures.2 points

A few days ago I replaced the original tweeters (K-77M drivers and standard lenses) in my 1986 La Scalas with SMAHL v2 lenses and DE-120 drivers from @Dave A The improvement made by the new tweeters is nothing short of astounding! My La Scalas are as original except: I reinforced the cabinets by laminating 3/8" baltic birch to the sides, top, and bottom to reduce resonance (and to address some cosmetic damage) I replaced the original AL networks with new AA networks from Crites To be frank, having wanted La Scalas for more than 40 years before finally getting a pair (in July), I was a bit underwhelmed by them. Sure, the music was clean and free of distortion, and they could play louder than I could stand, but some music (e.g., Springsteen, U2, Prince) just didn't sound as good as I'd hoped. Changing the tweeters has fixed that. I am absolutely delighted! I used REW to take some measurements before and after changing the tweeters. Because I was focused on the tweeters, I measured a range from 4500Hz to 20kHz. The room conditions, equipment, and all parameters were kept the same. I took three measurements before and after changing the tweeters. I "burned in" the new tweeters for about 8 hours before measuring them. This chart shows the average of the measurements, with 1/12 smoothing: Here are my old tweeters: And here are the new SMAHLv2/DE-120 tweeters: I had planned to paint the SMAHL v2 lenses black, but they look so good I may just leave them as they are. Others might not be keen on such a change, but I couldn't be happier. YMMV, but I wanted to share my experience on the forum. I'm grateful to members of the forum ( especially @ClaudeJ1) for making me aware of the SMAHL and to @Dave A for an excellent product.1 point

Hello! I have question on what would be a fair asking price on a pair of ALK Engineering ES5800 crossovers. Going to list them on EBay. I bought them about three years ago with ES500 crossovers when ALK was still making them. I am still using the ES 500 crossovers, but have no need for the ES5800s. ALK still has a price listed at $565.00 for a pair, but you can't order them. I was thinking around a starting price of $350.00. They are unique, but not readily available. Thanks for any input.1 point

Agreed. You'll miss the low end if you go the Heresy route and will wind up accompanying it with a subwoofer. Yes; if that's acceptable to you then get the Heresies. Otherwise, another vote for Quartets, or go for Fortes. I don't think Choruses will play lower than your kg4s.1 point

Sun's out here in Duckburg so ready for the warm-up. Then I think it's allll gonna be down hill for a week. Maybe a bit of Indian summer but who knows about that. You don't even wanna talk bourbon in Ohio. State controls it all now and dole out very few decent bottles of anything. Buddies kid won some bourbon drawing at Christmas time last year. Every high dollar bottle you could dream of was in that big basket. Kids about 35 so he and his buddies got totally trashed and it was gone in no time. Typical kid. You just don't see anything good in any quantity at all for sale. The pipe dream. Sad.1 point

An opening is a perfect absorber at that location (no reflective surface). Consider a larger rug that comes closer to your La Scalas. Colorful rugs used as artful wall coverings at reflection points from the tweeter and squawker may be useful. You might consider building panels from a 1" wood strips with A/C duct board in the center and wrapped with an attractive woven fabric. They would resemble cubicle walls. Place them at reflection points. If your SO will accept it, add insulated drapes to the windows and perhaps 2x as much as the windows need so they'll bunch up thickly. That is what I've done to the windows behind my La Scalas. You probably won't need to do all of the above. You can find your reflection points with a small flashlight placed against the front of the tweeter or squawker and angled like the sides of each horn. I like a super dead room for Home Theater but a more reflective room for music with the wall behind the speakers reasonably non-reflective.1 point

No one's posted for a couple years, but here's my two cents. I bought a 1.5 in '85 and it recently conked out. It was a beast driving Polk Audio SDA 1s and later the big SRSs. I had three concerns - a slight hum through the speakers, a speaker thump at turn off, and NO power switch! I sent it to Nelion Audio, MI for reconditioning and the MKII upgrade which included a power switch. It's better than ever! Detail and texture that I haven't heard before, just spectacular. There's more power, but that was never really an issue. Added new binding posts, an IEC socket, AND a power switch! No hum, no thump, it's a ghost. Serving in the military practically requires owning a great stereo. In my 24 years USAF, I bet I heard close to 100 hi-end systems. Carver owners were almost always happy campers. Bob's a genius and not only misunderstood, but pretty much incomprehensible to us regular types. There's mentioned in a previous post of a technician who couldn't understand what was happening inside and said it's too complicated. No kidding! Specs are all well and fine, but who cares when it sounds magnificent?1 point
