  2. @Invidiosulus looks like a good time. Couple bands came into town last night and played. The largest place in Duckburg was doing a 300, 200 and 100 cash payout to the best dressed. They had a great band coming in too. They had the kitchen open all night so who knows what happened. Cops prolly had a feeding frenzy after though. City cops don't do much unless someone is obviously trashed so now it's left up to the Troopers who take no prisoners. They flip, follow and pull ya over for a sobriety test just for giggles. Being a District HQ's it's cake for them. Ya pass walkin the line then they load ya up and take ya out to their new 6 mil facility, hit ya w/the pee test send it off and see ya in court a couple weeks later for the hangin. Welcome to Ohio "The heart of it all." Crazy!

  4. 001, I appreciate what you are saying, but for me woodworking it is a soothing pastime I enjoy doing in the garage while listening to tunes. I am not so much looking for a killer deal as I am to just make something with my hands. Essentially, I will be building a pair of Crite's Cornwall I's with all Crite's parts. HPower, I am in San Antonio, TX. I have been in contact with Michael and he should be able to help me out. Thank you!

  6. FedEx delivered my Halloween treat yesterday. I took advantage of a @Paducah Home Theater blowout deal on some KI-102-SMA-II to use as six Atmos speakers in my Jubilee 5.0 system. Unfortunately, I've hit a bit of a snag. The only painted ones in the blowout stock were the black ones with the 70V transformer for use in distributed audio systems. However, it turns out that this model speaker does not have dual speaker wire connections to be able to simply not use the transformer. So, I'm going to have to do some minor surgery on these to disconnect the transformer and connect the crossover directly to the input cup. I'm hoping it will be fairly easy as the solder connections on the input cup are big enough for even my terrible globby soldering. 😁 If I can't do it properly, the boys in Paducah offered to have me send the speakers to them for modification. The other option is to find a 70V amp with at least six discrete channels. However, that's looking like a more expensive and complicated option than the conventional multichannel amp I was considering. One other thing I need for this system change to the system is to replace my 7.1 processor with an Atmos/DTS-X one. Since the funds need to build back up for that, this Atmos upgrade to the system may take a few months to complete. One interesting thing I noticed about these speakers is that the tweeter phase plug looks like a scaled down version of the custom wide dispersion phase plug on the Heritage Jubilee.

  7. Geeze @Dave1291 do they not know Halloween immediately proceeds All Saints Day? I know some folks can't get to their grandparents house on Christmas morning and have done it Christmas Eve or later for the kids so I guess this is the same deal. But darn it. I didn't get two or three Halloweens when I was a kid. We were resourceful with king size pillowcases and covering literally probably a three square mile area from dark until midnight ! Did have a cavity twice back then!

  9. Read 'em and weep. Michigan had a bye week so nothing to report. lol I DID talk to a close friend of Shemmy Schembechler yesterday afternoon. Shemmy joined Harb's staff last summer then just bailed for no reason before the season started. Shem's a great guy just like his Dad was and I wondered about it alll when I heard it. Do the math is all I'm gonna say. He also said Harb's 60, wants a Natty and will be going back into the NFL somewhere as a head coach post season. 10. Mid-week here in Duckburg they're talking mid-20's? What evah. Guess today the munchkins are gonna be out beggin for candy from 2-4PM. Glad the oldest told me about it 5 minutes ago. lol Guess I'm hiding out again this year. To think I almost replaced the doorbell when I painted a couple years ago. It just goes clunk when it rings. 😂 Gotta have a crypto-clearance to get into this place. Don''t want the kids to get worms from that year old candy they sell at high dollar this time of the year. 😂 The best one ever was when the preggo woman stopped w/her litter and asked me for candy one year. She was getting candy for the baby is what she told me. Zero clue where she was from.

  11. At home I'm using La Scala 1 and today I also was able to listen to new KHorns. But unfortunately I will write nothing about how Jubilee sounds. That would not be fair and I'll give reasons for that. 1. AVS exhibit is organized in 3 different locations. That one where Jubilees where located (Radisson hotel) is known for massacring bass performance and have really intensive background noise from other rooms. 2. Tube amplifiers used for top part where humming a lot. 3. People running presentation where using bass and treble level knobs like mad men. From what I understood Jubilees where borrowed for this presentation so I assume that guys where not especially skillful on setting them properly. So to sum up I can only say I saw them and they look great but If I heard them is disputable. On the other hand KHorns in other location sounded great despite the electronics was I would say basic and room as you see was not really prepared for listening. On bright side I know what dealer will have them in Poland and maybe I'll be able to listen them in near future in more controlled environment.

  12. You are correct. Corrected now. Should have said V-fet transistors which are static induction transistors much like the SIT transistors made only for Nelson Pass before the company closed. Originally made by Sony if memory is correct way back in the 70's. SIT transistors have curves in the data sheet much like a triode tube. Most all other transistors have curves like a pentode. My understanding is they are still being made but only available to the military because they are extremely fast. Used for radar and I expect other uses as well.

  19. We thought of a few ways to make these even quieter so we are going to do further tweaks to these and then put them back up for sale. These were completely gutted and rebuilt. My friend Chris Hornbeck guided me through this one as it drove me crazy. Have been tweaking this over the last 4 months after the major rebuild. Deviations from stock are we added adjustable bias, added bias test point/pots, improved potted choke, snubbers, zobels on outputs, high graded medical power cords, and removed 12AU7 gain stage but otherwise stuck to schematic. Oh addded bottom plates and fet. They are composed of the following tubes 2 x Chatam 5AR4, 2, x EH KT90, 2 X Sylvania 6SN7GTB, and 2 X GE 0D3. The caps are orange drop, solen, nichon, JJ and Hayseed. I dig the light show the 0D3 puts off. These amps are overkill galore for klipsch. I can throw in extra quad of EH6550 but I prefer KT90. I have been listening to these carefully for the past two days on Belles with a Mark Levinson LNP2 preamp and a digital streaming source. They sound good but have way too much power I run gain at 1/4 on the amps. These just have too much power for Klipsch IMO. I'd love to run these on some modern electrostatics. I think they were better suited to some B&W's I also tested them on. Anyway... Ain't shipping these but could take to subfest in Hope in November. They are available for demo in Downtown Little Rock, AR. $850

  23. I'll have to look up those soundtracks! Had to go back where I'm from and let me tell you it's hot down here 83 right now where I am and I had gotten used to the nice cooler weather up in Virginia. I did get to change out my CDs for a little while. Have business to take care of tomorrow here so might change some of the ones I've played already. Punch Brothers phosphorescence has been playing since lunch (it's dinner time now) and these are on one side of my CD holder. I've got an extreme variety in here , between this half-filled side and the other side, can you tell what they are besides the first one?

  25. Heresy speakers are not designed for bass but rather for vocals , clarity and detail -the bass level is too high or you are using a low wattage amplifier which is distorting heavily , the solution is to lower the bass control or get a more powerful amplifier .

  26. You might be clipping your amplifier. +6dB bass boost requires 4 TIMES the power! Get a sub.

  27. These JBL horns are considered very good, but they aren't in the same category and the Klipsch K402. These have a 1.5 inch throat, limiting drivers, however, they would perhaps be fine with a variety of 1.4 inch throat drivers. A spacer with a slight, very slight taper could provide a match-up between the 1.4-1.5 difference. They are also not very expensive. https://reconingspeakers.com/products-page/jbl-365359-001-2384-hornwaveguide-3732/

  36. First quote that comes to my mind Terry Pratchett - The Colour of Magic “That’s what’s so stupid about the whole magic thing, you know. You spend twenty years learning the spell that makes nude virgins appear in your bedroom, and then you’re so poisoned by quicksilver fumes and half-blind from reading old grimoires that you can’t remember what comes next.”

  39. The Chorus is here http://assets.klipsch.com/product-specsheets/Chorus-brochure.pdf The Forte II is here http://assets.klipsch.com/product-specsheets/forte-II-brochure.pdf They didn't list the individual speakers but a google said the Forte's K-25-K is 4 ohm by itself. I'm surprised the Chorus suffered as it did and all I can do is repair it, I have the two Crites Crossovers on the way and I know they'll be good. I'll have to listen to each speaker pair & decide which one to keep. I can as mentioned, use the NAD with them elsewhere in the house but it has far more output than the MC275 and I don't care to boatanchor the Chorus again. https://www.stereophile.com/content/nad-218-thx-power-amplifier-specifications To that end, maybe I should experiment with Ti mids on the Chorus and add on whatever circuitry needs to be to the new crossovers to work best with them. Sure would be nice to be able to A > B phenolic vs Ti with the Crites crossovers. Perhaps my better bet would be to look into modern 3-way speakers with the MC ( I do have a pair of SVS PB16-Ultra Subwoofers to handle the lows) and use the smaller Forte as rear speakers with the NAD driving them for surround for theater & sell the Chorus on Craigslist this summer. Lotsa decisions... The input has been very helpful.
    1 point
  40. I can appreciate that. The MC275 has 4, 8 & 16 ohm output options, I'd think that the amp would be designed to deal with any of the combinations it was connected to. I think... even if the amp were connected at its 8 ohm terminals & the speakers were at 4 ohms, it would be even easier on the amp. Just conjecture, I don't know. It seems though if there are connections on the amp for 4 ohms, it would be designed to handle whatever swings come its way from the speakers. I remember how much fuller the sound when I had Advents hooked up in parallel, I liked the way the Chorus and Forte sounded together for the same reason. That said, I suppose I could use one of the pairs elsewhere in the house, I have a NAD SS amp that hasn't been used since I picked it up, can't recall the model, weighs maybe 70 pounds with its huge toroidal transformer, can't think where it'd fit in. That, or I'd have to Craigslist one of the pairs, all four on the floor take up a lot of space. So much I don't know the answers to.

  41. A follow-up. I'm not sure what killed them but the tweeters are indeed fried. I removed them and looked carefully and both of the coils were fried. Not the whole coil was fried, just the lower edge, the edge closest to the titanium dome/board,. I could have re-wound them with magnet wire, I think I have some of that same diameter but I just re-ordered a replacement pair as this way there will be no issues. Bob sent them immediately & they should be here tomorrow. What concerns me though is why they fried. The 75W per channel from the MC275 doesn't exceed their specs and both of them suffered the same damage. If it were a transient of some kind from the power line it would have surely damaged the C2500 or the MC275. If nothing else, I had the Forte connected in parallel with the Chorus and those tweeters are also titanium replacements and they are both working perfectly. One tweeter on the Chorus I failing I can picture, but for two of them to fail and the Forte pair equally attached & unscathed doesn't make sense to me. Odd.

  42. Max, I have no AVR, the TV has only an optical or HDMI out. I have the optical going to the C2500 and have HDMI connected to the computer and through a soundbar. The SVS subs are self powered and they connect to a pair of outputs on the C2500. I have no way to measure THD, all that good test equipment is long gone, unfortunately. Not enough room along life's pathway and I had to thin much I wasn't using. I could put the amp at a very low output and connect to it, I suppose at this point it won't matter. Alexander, Yes, been a ham since 79, & nice to meet you, my main interest is DX, contests and CW. I've been under the impression each of these speakers were 8 ohms & with two wired in parallel, the net impedance would be 4 ohms. If they are not 8 ohms, then being in parallel is a bad mistake on my part. To come up with 2.67 ohms you must be looking at different information than 8 ohms. CECA, yes. I thought they were out in the garage but nobody goes there except for me and they were not where I remember them to be so I must have thrown them out. I restore old motorcycles and always keep old parts, it's a habit... Surprised these are gone, they must have been pitched during a cleanup last year
    1 point
  43. Yes, I've had it like this for a couple of years. The MC275 allows you to select the ohmage of the speakers you're using, you can have any number attached, you just have to plan for the ohmage (in my case, two in parallel) and you're good to go. On their sides? No, that would require more space than I have available. I might could fit them sideways but it isn't a requirement to me to have the best possible configuration; when you get to my age, that's something for younger ears and a degree of perfection I've never had. As this is, when I'm jamming to music, the sound is at my ear level instead of coming from below, that means a lot to me (Been a musician for 62 years now). Multiple subs sounds interesting, I might go there but not right away, I'll have to see if one satisfies me, if not, I'll get another. Not that I'm wealthy but at this point in life, I can do things I couldn't do before. Here's a photo, ignore the clutter on the right, I'm adjusting what is in the rooms, it'll be cleared out in a couple of days.

  44. Was tightening down the lug after rebuilding the diaphragms & caps on a Forte II & while tightening it down, the lug snapped right at the narrow/thin points where the wire goes through. I'm making do for now but its not elegant... Anyone have a spare red lug for these they want to sell or maybe a pointer to where I can find one easily? The kind that has a hole for speaker wire in it but also takes the banana plug as well? I'm sure I can make something that'll work great from the hardware store but that just won't "be right"... Parts, comments, suggestions? Thanks
    1 point
  45. Thanks to a lot of good replies to questions I've been asking I made the decision to buy a pair of both Chorus 1 and Forte II. It was obvious both had their fan base with some suggesting the Chorus II but others going with the Chorus I. Once receiving the Chorus I ordered Bob Crites Ti tweeter & phenolic mids and his capacitor upgrade. I really came to like those speakers and with the upgrades, the clarity was wonderful where I was clearly hearing articulation I normally hear as muddy & undistinguishable. With that I saw a pair of Forte II for sale at a fair price nearby and picked them up and ordered the upgrades for these. These speakers are definitely different than the Chorus but sounded beautiful side by side. If there is "break in" time then the Forte will need more time on them to do so but I decided to put the Forte on top of the Chorus knowing that would definitely alter the sound to anywhere in the room. I have to say I really love the sound of the Chorus bottom & Forte top, I'm going to leave them just like this, the clarity, dept of natural sounding bass and the separation is just fantastic. I couldn't be happier. Well I can always be happier...
