  1. Thanks for the shots from your day trip today George. My den? 11' 3" wide over there, 23' deep to the kitchen window on the other side. Not ideal, might go catecornered to the dinette section? Will not know until I experiment... Think the mirrors were glued with liquid nails, it is that brown color. & the other direction Finally closed today!! HO HO HO!! Early and Best Christmas since I was a kid! So I'm at home for the first time since June 2021!!

  2. first speaker is ready. Unfortunately its hard here (the Netherlands) to acquire the correct Klipsch capacitors. I'm in contact with @JEM Performance about the price for shipping a kit over here. Meanwhile for testing purposes i tried some other caps, Monacor MKT. 1+1 uF and 3+1 uF. Since the Aerovox seem to be done, at least changing should do no harm to my opinion. after prepping the speakers, i got to the veneering of it. Because i've build a birch plinth for my modified Lenco L75, i thought it would be nice looking to also have the speakers in the same veneer. The front panel is painted matte black, same with the back panel, and the cabinet is treated with 5 layers of Rustin Danish oil. I also made risers, panted the same black as the front and back panel. About the sound, to me it sounds that the speaker now is more alive, highs get a little crispier and the bass is fuller. Not sure if this is due to the risers or the other capacitors, but at least there is a noticable difference. Next up, the other speaker 😀

  4. Thank you Bruce, got some new appliances coming in before the end of the year. Going to remove that grayish colored floor in the combo kitchen, dinette, foyer, hallway room before the new stuff gets here. Try to match the golden oak color in the den!

  13. Hey all new to the community and Home Theater. Current setup is Onkyo AVR, front speakers Klipsch RP-500m, RP-500C, Rear surround RP-402s, and Sub SW121. I’m thinking of buying either the RP-600mii or floor standing RP-5000fii to replace the 500m bookshelf’s, (leaning toward the floor speakers) I was curious if the 500m would be better for the rear surrounds over the current 402s. Really don’t have room logistics for side speakers too. Going to upgrade center in a couple weeks too. . Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  16. I don't know about the sub out in the middle, but you should get superb imaging with nothing between your Forte's. I ran my LS like that and there was spooky real imaging.

  18. @JohnJ made a quick drawing , I would place the sofa at the backwall area ( blue line ) the F III´s into direction to the sofa and the sub in between ...that´s the way I should try first .

  19. @MicroMara I take that you didn't go swimming [though I have seen some tourists in a pool with the weather in the low 60's]. We watched while wearing our coats ... 60` is cold for us desert rats. @JohnJ your den, 12 ft X 12, is about the size of my doghouse. The bass, even with the R15M's, was strong. If you take the 23 foot and set up the room as 12 X 23 .exactly the opposite. You will have fun setting up the audio.

  23. Unless you're going to go with an Atmos setup, the wide dispersion 402s work really well as surrounds. And, I know we all have limitations based on our rooms but in a 5 speaker surround setup your surrounds are actually your side surrounds, a 7 speaker setup adds rear surrounds. For the most noticeable upgrade, I'd suggest upgrading your center and adding a second identical sub.

  24. About the only real "fix" is squaring up edges and re-veneering but then that makes it "un-original" and there are those who feel that's taboo. But they are your speakers to do with as you wish. It's not like they are under warranty anymore.

  26. Well I always thought the RC-7 had two sets of tapped holes - FRont and rer so you could tilt up or down. DAYUM only the rear... So no need for screw now a sI need to tilt up. But I figured it out . Little short rubber bumpers in rear - came from Cabinet drawers supply as it keeps them from slamming and less then 1/8" thick. Then my trial I stacked washers under the front with a furniture pad thingy - 1.5" tall roughly. WOrks fine - Ugly but works. So off I went to AMAZON to hunt down something to hold up the front and look like it was meant to be there. I found the below fancy door stop in the jungles of AMAZON. I will cut, sand, shave the thick rubber part to the angle I Want the speaker to be at based on height of this thing. Sticky tape it to furniture and then set speaker down on it to have it tilt up.

  31. The fully enclosed back does not mean that the Klipschorn is no longer a corner horn. The enclosed back eliminates the need for the cabinet to be tightly against the corner, allowing changes in toe-in. However, the speaker still needs to be close to a corner to achieve full bass response. Here's the quote from the current AK6 product page (https://www.klipsch.com/products/klipschorn). "The Klipschorn's low frequency horn has been redesigned and is now fully enclosed. This eliminates the need for the loudspeakers to be positioned snuggly in a corner." From the current product manual: "The Klipschorn (AK6) has a fully enclosed low frequency horn and no longer has to be flush to the corner in order to operate properly. The Klipschorn can now be toed in or out to obtain the best imaging. The corner still serves as an extension of the low frequency horn, improving low frequency performance. For best results, Klipsch highly recommends the Klipschorn be placed in the proximity of a corner."

  36. Well I got them all cleaned up using light soap and damp clothes. I went with a natural slightly tinted wax to seal and protect. We have used this over the last 20 years on a couple other wood furniture pieces we have. Yes the speakers sound awesome (running cds through it). Love em. I did some research and wanted to do some tube amps and decided on a new build from getdynaco so I got a st70 and soon to arrive pas-3 or M preamp. I also have a new turntable coming in on Monday. It will be interesting but something I’ve had on my mind for many year is to have vinyl (ones created from analog source) and tube amp with klipsch belles, klipschorn … but these LaScalas will fit the bill in this room. I do have other rooms I’ll need to look over if I do see a klipschorn near me at a fantastic price lol. The AA crossover sound great to me but I understand will need new caps for longevity. I wanted to get my new gear going and listening for a bit and then do the upgrade. So not too many changes at once. thanks again all, for the great information.

  37. I've been using Media Monkey and been happy. On my PC, Laptop and andriod phone. I paid the 60 bucks for life time gold and have 219 GB of music on it. I've ripped almost all of my CD's on it. Works well and can sync between devises.

  38. I've had my custom-2s for a good three months now, and I was being lazy, so I didn't re-adjust the flex wires everytime I used them. Imagine my surprise when I got a free sound quality upgrade the other day =P The problem is, the right bud seals well with both the medium and double flange, but the left bud is only adequate with both. My ear canals can be different widths and lengths right? So short of customs, I won't ever get a better fit =/ It's listenable, but sort of annoying the I can't squeeze out every bit of sound quality my custom-2s can offer . I've tried angling it upward, doesn't help the seal. Also, the left bud doesn't sit flush inside my ear. Any other suggestions? I'm currently trying to mix and match to see if I can have a different tip on each side.

  40. I've had my Custom-2s for just about as long as they were on the market, and I only just got the perfect seal. To say the fit is finicky would be an understatment, but these gels are by far the most comfortable I've had to date. I'll run you by a step by step process of how I fit my earphones everyday: 1) Peel back the flange on the tip and line up the raised lines, then straighten the memory wire. 2) Take the earbud and insert it into your ear. At this point the seal may or may not be good, we'll adjust accordingly in the next few steps. 3) Holding the earbud in place, pinch the memory wire at the top of your ear, where the ear meets your head. Ensure the memory wire is flush to your head and that you've pinched it in place so it doesn't budge. 4) If the fit is still not good at this point, push gently on the earbud to insert it further into the ear canal. You can also try pushing on the area near the silver connector between the memory wire and the earbud housing. Continue to push gently along the housing and other portions of the memory wire to ensure you have a good seal, adjust the memory wire once you have found a good fit. 5) Pinch the memory wire in the same area mentioned before, once you have a good fit, and mould the rest of the wire to the back of your ear. Hope that helps, because my Custom-2s sound better than they ever have since using this method and the large double flange. I couldn't stand using them initially, but since they do curve past the second bend in the ear canal, the seal is much better than the single mediums.

  41. That's the problem with something so small, it's very difficult to measure when exactly we are damaging our ears. If in doubt, always err on the side of caution. I don't remember exactly where I read it, but IIRC there is a volume threshold that you need to reach in order to have the highs and lows accurately reproduced. You should trust your ears I guess, but keep in mind that hearing loss is usually progresive and you may just be turning up the volume to compensate for hearing loss that has already happened. Maybe you should just make an appointment with an audiologist to see if your hearing is still in good shape. The reason your Image sounds as if it is at the same volume as the sony canalphones is partially because it's much closer to your eardrum, and the overall sound quality is likely better as well. Because it is closer to your eardrum, you should be more careful about damaging your hearing. The image probably does not distort as easily, so you may actually be playing your music even louder than you realize since most people use distortion as a cue to turn the volume down.

  42. There's no precise way I know of to measure the SPL levels of IEMs, so all I can offer are some general guidelines. First of all, don't use pain as a signal to let you know when to turn down the volume. More often then not, damage could have already occured by that point. Keeping the volume adjuster on your mp3 player at half the maximum setting is a start, but is in no way a safe bet since SPL changes with different headphones and different songs. The only way to be sure is to keep volumes as low as you possibly can. Train your ears to appreciate the music at a lower volume. What I do is listen to a song I know I want louder first (at a moderate level), then gradually lower the volume during the time that I listen for while at the same time moving towards "softer sounding" genres of music. By the time I'm done listening for the day, I barely notice that the volume is considerably lower than I started with. After some time, you won't need to do this gradual volume adjustment because you'll have found the lowest bearable volume you can listen to and still enjoy the music. Don't take this to mean that the first song I listen to makes my ears bleed, I do keep the volume below the threshold that damages your ears immediately. Strangely enough though, I seem to pick up ambient noise cues better than human voice these days (time to visit the audiologist maybe?).

  43. I haven't used my custom 2s in weather much colder than -5, but it seems to do just fine when I take it out. I'm guessing the problem with the shure wires is cracking, and last time I checked, cloth can't crack It does fray a little near the headphone jack, but it doesn't seem to be anything but a cosmetic problem at the moment. If it does end up becoming an issue, the warrenty is good for 2 years =D On a sound quality note, I'm sure you'll be very pleased with the upgrade compared to the e2cs. I've had a long listen to the e2cs several times, and the custom 2s have a better soundstage and fuller bass, among other things.

  44. @foxlinked: When I first got my custom-2s, I faced many of the same issues as the few early adopters and yourself did (besides seal issues). The earphones seemed to be overly bright and dry for my own tastes, however, I'm currently 100% pleased with my purchase. In fact, I'd be comfortable enough to say that these are my favourire IEMs of all the ones I've owned. Curious as to how I improved my SQ to suit my needs? It was very simple and not at all costly, and its name is the Sansa Clip. The level of detail, warmth, extension of bass and numerous other sonic improvements is totally worth the $45 (on sale at Bestbuy.com =P) I highly recommend switching DAPs, and I really don't how you could lose, just return it if you don't like it but few people do, and I doubt you will. I had some hiss in between tracks and with certain songs with my iriver clix2 (which is most likely on its way out in favour of the Clip =P), and I'm happy to say that there is zero hiss with the clip. I actually couldn't stand listening to my clix2 without EQ, and even still it sounded a touch artificial with my EQ settings. The way I see it, it saves you the time and money needed to ship back your custom-2s. All you need to do is stop by bestbuy for a quick purchase.

  45. My sister is having some fit issues with her custom 1s, and its one of the weirdest things i've seen happen with PMs. I helped her insert them, with the smallest tips, and its seemed as if it went into her ear fine. After a few minutes, the earphones work their way out of her ear and just sit in front of her ear canal. Does she need smaller tips? And how can I get them? On a side note, I'm loving my Custom 2s =) I've been switching between three different DAPs, and the differences in sound quality while using the Custom 2s are pretty surprising to me.

  46. Smells fishy to me...what exactly do selling headphones and sinks have in common with each other? Plus, the "buy it now" price is below the discount price that even early adopters were offered for the image. If it seems too good to be true, it usually is. I'll spend a little extra and keep my 2 year warranty, thank you very much =D
