  5. I’ve never heard anyone say that Heresy IIs aren’t well-regarded. 🤷 When I bought a pair of IIIs I still had my IIs. Sent the IIIs back and kept the IIs which I preferred much more.

  12. Something made me listen to some Floyd last night... then I gravitated elsewhere. To an LP that a friend turned us onto about five years ago! Now it isn't just the first snappy tune, take it like Pink Floyd and listen to the whole thing in sequence... voila you've been somewhere without leaving home!! This guy sang on the above: NICE!! Then back with Nick and his guys:

  13. Hello, this is my first post here and I appreciate any constructive feedback. I have the WAF pretty much covered because I promised to sell my early 1984~ish 48" tall x 18" wide Infinity RSIII-B's as well as a PAP 15" Trio OB DIY project - and a few other mid 1980's reasonably sized speakers. Promise is to have speakers which can be closer to the wall, rather than the 3' out from the front wall. I went over sizes and find the Cornwall just a little too wide and they are probably too much for room size. Almost everything in my system is DIY, the exception being a Fisher SA-300 EL-34 from the year 1960 which is currently having parts ordered for a rebuild. At 35w it's nearly double in power from anything else I have. I would like to try an American made Heritage series speaker and can be talked out of it. Amps will continue to evolve, but have the option to buffer low power SET tube amps with DIY Pass F4 monoblocks. Listening area has an 8' ceiling, no room treatments other than a plethora of large dog beds and couches, floor is wood on concrete slab with 50% coverage area rug between speakers which will be on the wood floor. It's the living room of a 1450 square foot house. Listening position will be 15' from the front wall. Back wall is 25' behind the listening position, have high back chairs going over ear height. Speakers probably placed 9' apart on center and not have ideal placement, there is just no way to do it with the shape - and therefore horns come to mind. Shying away from the Heresy because I would need to build a really good sub, which would be quite expensive. Easily $1200 DIY for a 12" sub and amp. I'm not committed to new from factory, and probably can't afford it unless it is Heresy. What to look for in used, do we assume they have all been modded? I'm not sure of the story behind Chorus, but see some big fans here. Listening tastes vary, but there will always every now and then ya gotta get the Led out and let Hendrix do his thing. Joni and Ella need to sing. Those recordings that Miles did in a hurry to get out of his contract, they are the up there at the utmost of importance. Coltrane. Rush. Bartok. The Blues, including some that are only in mono. Thanks, and hope I didn't go too long. Did it because some people frequently say "need to know more".

  14. This Modwright SWL 9.0 Anniversary Edition is an amazing tube preamp w/ optional adjustable phono stage installed + remote. Original owner, I used this exclusively paired with a Pass Labs X150 amp (11 kΩ input impedance) since day one and performance was stellar. Sound quality and build are top notch. Features- 4 sets of RCA inputs, one of which doubles as Home Theater Bypass 2 sets of RCA Main Outputs 1 set of RCA Tape Outputs Hybrid headphone amp: 1.5 Watts (25 ohm to 600 ohm load) Tube Complement: 5687 x2 (or equivalents 7044/6900/7119) MM/HOMC phono stage ($350 add-on) Technical Specs- Gain: 11dB Input Impedance: 30K Output Impedance: 800 ohms Frequency Response: 20Hz to 100Khz Max Output Signal: 20V Distortion: .03% THD Noise: -110dB Dimensions: 17W x 12D x 4.5H Weight: 28.5 lbs (35 lbs shipped) Easily a 9/10, but due to a technicality, it will have to be marked a 7/10 (USAM scale). Reason: The word 'Power', above the power button, has some slight imperfections (see photo). I purchased the unit brand new and it arrived this way. It's barely noticeable. CONUS shipping only. Will be double boxed for shipping. (37 lbs. packed, 23"x19"x12") Local pick-up in Las Vegas, 89147 is always welcome! Asking $2250 $1500 + shipping and any fees (cash, PayPal, Zelle) Lowest price you'll find, anywhere!

  17. I’m right in that same line of thinking. Thanks for helping to confirm. Guess I’ll see how motivated the seller is before making the drive to demo.

  18. That’s on the top end in my opinion. They’d need to be 95+% mint and even then that’s a bit more than I’d pay. $600 is more realistic.

  21. You should actually go there and listen again. They've changed the space and improved both the acoustics and the speaker setup. Whether bigger is always better, I doubt. But the Jubilee does sound noticeably better than the AL5.

  23. All I know is, everyone noticed significant differences between the low and high level sound presentation in a number of songs listened to over a 2-3 week period. We all liked the high level connection better, YMMV.

  24. We had a busy evening at home, but this was on the news: It happened around 2:30pm in the 2700 block of Vermont Avenue near Notre Dame High School. Police say they arrived at the scene to find one person with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The unidentified victim was taken to a local hospital. Police say several places, including Notre Dame High and CHI Memorial, were placed on lockdown to allow officers to make sure the area was safe. ----- Our offices/campus is about four blocks from where the shooting took place. We ere on lockdown, and they finally just let people leave, but locking the doors behind them as they left. Wife and I stayed about another 45 minutes and then went home. Tons of traffic like nothing was going on. They haven't found the shooter as of curent news.

  29. Hi Travis, Hmmm....The most difficult was the ADC B-100. However, I haven't heard one since the CES show of 1981! It's overly complicated, but at the time I think it sounded better than the Paragon 12A. According to my current recollections, the Peach II is my "best work. " It is novel, well-built, sounds great, and is pretty reliable, especially after the low-voltage bridge mods. OTOH, the BBX was the most fun - had the killer phono stage and especially the early versions had a look that I really loved. This month is the 20th "birthday" of the BlueBerry. The original prototype chassis shown here.

  35. Water should be either deionized or distilled. A friend of mine uses distilled water and Simple Green surfactant solution. It's alcohol based. Chemical smell. The u/s cleaners that sweep the frequency clean better than those that sit at a single frequency. With the surfactant and swept frequency embedded particles can usually be extracted.

  36. The CII network looks like it was built by playschool. It is shoddily pieced together and hot glued on a board stuck to the back of the cabinet. It will be a bit more difficult to replace the caps and coils. There is no internal dampening inside the cabinet either. I would get some acoustic foam panels and spray glue from Parts Express and attach them to the three non opposing sides of the cabinet while you are working on the network. Pull the woofer to get access.

  38. For your air leaks ,#1 Take one of your grills off,Now your grills are held on with pegs that go into rubber grommets in several locations,#2 Pull one rubber plug out with your fingers, most are just loose,#3 Place one hand to the rear, and push in and out on the passive rad,Place your big face in front of the little hole you see where you removed the grommet,BINGO-- see the air that you lost,Really the cabinet is not sealed properly because the air will just escape around the rubber plugs when you play the fortes.Klipsch should off thought about this for the passive to work better,The purpose of a passive is to have a good sealed box,Now this is a good fix so you really hear the low end from the passive ,remove the front 12" driver.get some silcone (clear) (or the yellow construction glue for the inside only),For each hole put a good amount on the end of your finger,go into the cabinet and cover each hole, make sure you look in the hole on the outside to make sure you did,Now, the plug will not go all the way to the end on the inside when you insert it,now for each plug put a little silicone around each one and push them in.take your time and you will do a nice job so you dont have silcone squeezing out,Let dry for 24 and you will have a properly sealed cabinet, that is if your seals are ok behind the tweeters and drivers. Now your passive will truly work better with the front woofer. After this is done you can hear a noticable difference in low end performance.
