  4. @dirtmudd By golly Mr. Mudd that's thinking out of the box for sure! I like it! It wouldn't sound right using just a land line and the Princess bedroom extension. By golly you could be on to something! Thanks! πŸ’ͺ 🧑

  7. Woot, today's the day. Not much on the plate so turnin up the gas. One to unzip and who knows what else. Might even put a few away but that sounds like work. Looking at 6 stacks leaning with each being about a 18" long. Depressing. I've been eyeing a piece of shelving board about 8 feel long I've saved in the garage. It's from my original concrete block shelving circa 1962. Too late to use that and I'm not gonna take a chance but... There IS the front hallway if I move a bunch of gear and give my oldest a nice oak panel door cabinet she's been craving. I've had that board since the beginning of it all... πŸ˜‚

  10. OK George & Paul, y'all know me well enough to know I did not take your comments as a sleight! With how well it worked for me after I got rid of that ort elliptical needle & cart I was just surprised. Did not notice it at all the last time that floating platter record player was talked about here! Love the almost @Full Range level radical aesthetics. It's George Jetson all the way!!

  12. For me it was LaScalas at Friday night dance parties back in the mid/late '70s. (remember disco?) Invited to a friend of a friends house and there they were. Once I heard them I said/thought what the heck are those?, gotta have me a pair. Saved up some pennies and in '77 bought a pair and like @Coytee I still have them. Still have the original receipt $602 a piece, raw birch(back when they used or could obtain the good shit) with full front grill cloth. Sweet.

  16. I'm guessing you don't like Dire Straits? I'm not sure how level matched these are, but the Heresy IVs sound very balanced. The LS sound a little weak in the bass, but I could tweak the to where I could be happy. Cornwalls still sound boomy to me, that could be the room, setup. The Forte IVs sound great, and the Heritage Jubilees massive, but very balanced.. Still, I'm listening on headphones, so who knows. I happen to like DS, but might have picked a different song.

  17. It pains me to get rid of this subwoofer as I absolutely love it, but I live in an apartment now and it rarely gets used. This sub has major kick, and if used I would probably be evicted lol. I am now moving to a smaller apartment and cannot justify the space or the sound, so unfortunately will be letting this beast go.

  19. Old man. (you!?!?!!!!) I first heard LaScalas in 1978 at Carlin Audio in Fairfield Ohio. Scott (if I recall his name correctly) played Lucky Man / ELP. I swear, it sounded like they were IN the speaker playing......I was hooked. Went back couple weeks/months later and bought a pair (1979 production) Still have them. When the Underground Jubilee's arrived somewhere around 2007? (now that, I can't remember for the life of me, I'd have to do some searching to find when) I put Pink Floyd, Pulse on and had at it.

  21. I've know of Klipsch for decades and even owned a cheap pair of SF-2 tower speakers just to try them out. However, y first experience with the Heritage series happened for me recently... New to me Heresy 2's and the first thing I played was Cannoball Adderley's Something Else on vinyl via my tube amp and tube preamp. It was eye opening. it felt like I was listening in the club while the band was playing. Great dispersion and soundstage, articulate highs... overall a very pleasing experience. I like to listen to music on the media that it was originally recorded / released on (50's, 60's, 70's - Vinyl, 80's, early 90's CD, etc) and this set up is what I think it must have been like "back in the day" when this was first released.

  25. Here's something you don't see, a %THD v. power plot for a pair of MC30s. The output tubes are new make, matched pairs from JJ (6L6GC), rectifier is also new make JJ 5U4GB. The small signal tubes (preamp 12AX7, phase inverter 12AU7, voltage amp 12BH7 and driver tube 12AX7) are all vintage. The amp pair is shown. Load is 8 Ohm non-inductive power resistor. Plot shows that both amps produce about 30W RMS with <0.4% THD.

  27. Ever had a Bosch? We don't use ours often..it's just the wife and I. But when we have guests or a dinner party it is nice to have. Quiet and does a great job. Heats the water so hot it does NOT have an electrical drying element. Of course we rinse and remove large food remnants before placing in the machine.

  33. Felt awful the last couple weeks. New Rx that makes you grow green antennae and get purple polka-dots Love the original version I grew up with, but I've heard it a thousand times. Liked this variant from that eight hour Crossroads Festival on tv years ago! Open it up in another tab ... the whole show is great!

  34. Great Brand, but there is an issue. Please take one of your plates and wine glasses and put them in the dish washer. Why, European dishes and glasses are smaller than US and it can be an issue for everyday use

  39. Not saying they are dead, but if they are they had a good run of about 53 years. Considering how specialized their market place is, that's PDG. In 1970, pretty much all young men were interested in audio gear. I'm from that era and I got my first "real stereo system" in 1969 - and so did all of my friends. I'm just spewing, but I would guess that today, a young man with $1500 will spend it on a telephone to carry around in his pocket before he would buy a piece of high end audio gear. "Tiny, plastic, portable, digital, cheap, and offshore" - - all the qualities that ARC amplifiers don't possess! I hope they make it. It is a great company with a great tradition of excellence. In 1974 when Bruce and I designed our first preamp at Paragon, the ARC SP3a was the "gold standard" for most who were in the know. Very intimidating.

  40. I looked online for a photo of the mid monos and there are a couple of photos over on audioasylum. Just a quick glance between photos does show the build quality difference! From my earlier question: There is a small source signal that runs through the preamp when both the gain and volume are turned all the way down. I sent an e-mail and this is expected.

  41. The SP2 is a prettty old preamp. I read allot on Audio Research since January and just purchased a used SP-14 preamp for $ 1050 including shipping and extra tubes. The asking price seemed a a little steep for the two components. Some ARC components have excellent reviews and others are less favorable. SP-9 is reviewed poorly but the SP-9 MK III is reviewed quite well. I know very little about ARC power amps. My intention is to first use the SP-14 with my Scott 208 power amp and Chorus IIs. Eventually I will compare the ARC SP-14 to the updated CJ PV10B with my VRD and Belles. I like all the vintage Scott integrateds but to get the bass weight and depth of soundstage potential out of your K Horns you would need to make a larger investment in separates or a highly regarded integrated.

  42. Has anyone heard the Quicksilver line of amps on Klipsch? What did you think? I might be able to get a pair of mid monos, but would also consider the horn or set monos. Thanks!

  43. I'm thinking about getting a 7-channel amp for a basement home theater and was wondering if any of you had recommendations? I've started looking at Outlaw Audio 7700, B&K 200.7 and maybe an Emotiva 5-channel with one of my two channels powering maybe the rears? Right now the plan is cornwall fronts, academy, forte rears with an SW-15 sub. I'm probably 50/50 music/movies and will (someday) do some sort of JBL-based cornscala mains.

  45. I think I paid $2250 for a used setup. They definitely keep up with a pair of La Scalas, so if you can swing it - I would recommend them.

  46. The forte ii's are definitely better for music (I have kg5.5s). If your budget is tight - kg4.2s might be better paired with a sub for movies.

  47. I've heard both speakers in the past, but it's been a long time. I remember the kg3.2's lacking in bass. The klf-20's are a 3-way speakers with a tweeter, midrange horn and two 10" drivers. The kg3.2's have a tweeter and an 8" driver with a 10" passive. I have a pair of kg5.5's which give much better bass than the 3.2's, but given the choice between them and the klf'20s - I'd pick the klf's.
