mungkiman
That wasn't The Who, or a great show. Were they paid by the song? I couldn't watch, and I'm a fan.

askbob1
I think it was fun, but lacked in the music department and without the man on bass???? ^^Pino Palladino. If you ever get a chance to watch him play with John Mayer(John Mayer Trio), do so. He is a hell of a player. The drummer was kinda limp wristed to me though. It was kinda hard to watch Roger. He plays small riverboat casinos now. Great nostalgia, he just doesn't have the voice anymore which is a real shame because they have such iconic songs. I was just waiting for a viagra or cialis commercial to scroll across their stage![]

I agree completely. I turned it off rigth away. This sums it up:
oscarsear
Sorry but I too think that there comes a time to hang up the career and these guys are waaaaay passed that juncture. I recently saw 'The Boss' play on TV and felt the same way. It is nice if they are personally having fun but it really is not good entertainment for any venue. Clapton and McCartney seem to better manage their aging selves. But the old boys who try and dress and act like they are stylish and studly stage wonders..... uh uh. Audible Nectar
I thought The Who was OK. Not fabulous, but OK, and Pete made sure it would at least be acceptable. They did what they could with 12 minutes. If I had my way, I would have had them do "Won't Get Fooled Again" in full and been done with it. John Entwistle's sound was noticeably missing, which is signature to this band, IMO. It sure beats what used to pass as Super Bowl halftime - "Up With People". jacksonbart
Even in their advanced age (most of us get old, that is if we are lucky enough too), they are still very talented and I enjoyed the show, though I would agree, perform the entire song, do it justice. I could have done with out seeing Pete's jelly button however. The man is a Rock God, but damn can't he find a shirt with stronger buttons? John Mila
The Who played almost acceptably, but the people running the sound were atrocious! The acoustic guitar in the first song was barely audible. The bass and the keys were so far back in the mix most of the time, as to make it a lead guitar/singer show. The drum mix wasn't too bad, but because of the horrible job done on the board (at least with the mix that was transmitted to millions of people), The Who sounded like a garage band. I was very dissappointed. I did however LOVE that stage. WOW.
phatchef
Zack Starkie(Ringo Stars son) was the drummer and has been since before 9-11. You can watch them on "The concert for NYC". A realy good concert is The Who live at royal albert hall, really good show!
russ69
If I had my way, I would have had them do "Won't Get Fooled Again" in full and been done with it. John Entwistle's sound was noticeably missing, which is signature to this band, IMO. I was thinking the same thing but a long jam of "Eminence Front" but like you say without Entwistle that song would be a bust. Thanx, Russ P.S. I'm not really sure Entwistle played the original version but I assume so.
Islander
And no breasts popped out! Always a good thing.... Hmm, a comment from a boobaphobic. [] Perhaps you meant "no breasts popping out on prime-time TV is always a good thing". That would make more sense. Also, Pete should have tucked his shirt in a bit better. All the same, I enjoyed the show.
TheEvan
Not bad for old guys wayyyyy past their prime. In other words, it was half-baked, proven by the fact they were upstaged by the lights
sunburnwilly
Time for them to retire. I'm suprised CBS didn't display "WATCH CSI" on the stage graphics. jerol I would bet that the younger audience probably thought , hey , that's the CSI Band . bluesboy
That was awful. As far as I'm concerned The Who was over as a band when Keith Moon died. I'm just glad I didn't hear the line "hope I die before I get old". I was embarrassed for them.
fini
It sort of struck me as Roger and Pete performing in front of a Who cover band...And the commercials?? They sucked! Thank goodness it was an exciting game (and a 4th quarter win for me)!!
winchester21
Hate to say it- looked foward to it- big fan back in the day- still got my Live at Leeds LP from the 70s- but they were disgustingly horrible. I was in shock and embarrased for them. Roger sounded like a sick dog- Pete looked ridiculious- Ent looked lost and confused. Big disapointment. Maybe the worst SB act yet. Rather see the boobs. Commercials were stupid and not funny except for Motorola IMHO.
BigStewMan
Pete looked ridiculious- Ent looked lost and confused. Not sure what you mean here. By Ent did you mean Entwistle? I hope not because he's been dead for about six years. Not to say that they didn't dig him up and put the bass in his hands though. like most of the aged rockers, the voice is the first to go. saw joe walsh on tv the other day--not very good either. sunburnwilly
It was kinda neat to see Ringo Star's son on drums ; Keith Moon's godson . Guys been with the band for like 14 years . Not to mention Pete Townsend's son playing guitar as well .
neo33
The who? The music was fabulous. Masterfully planned for the timeframe. The visuals were awesome with the stage images, lasers and spots. Head and shoulders above the Stones.
