That's right Ear, NO subwoofer, but I plan on getting one in one of these days. I'm thinking a 15" Titanic would suit me, or maybe some Digital Designs woofer, I'm not sure yet...

DigitaDesigns drivers are mainly for SPL competitions, there is where they shine.Max SPL at a given frequency, the world SPL record was set with one DD 15" driver, over 180dB!

For HT or audio in a home the Dayton Titanic III 15" is a better choice.

ThoughtI'd throw up a few pics of my little theater built on the cheap. :) I started with a set of Quintet III's and a HK 5.1 amp, decided to upgrade rather quickly. Here's what I have for equipment as of today, most likely to change in the next month or so again knowing me.:)

Thanks guys, it was a quick and fairly cheap build the only way I could get the wife to agree. :)

Arky, yeah the treasdmill gets used almost every day. Not by me mind you by my wife.

Jacksonbart, which side? The one by the equipment rack is a airbrushing of Superman I did and framed. The other wall is one I did of the Justice Leauge Iabout 2 yers ago, it's 4'X8'

Hi Clinton. Very nice setup man. What did you use to cover the front of the speakers with? Did you make a frame and velcro it to the frame? It looks great.

Thanks Youthman,I built a frame out of 1" square cedar and stretched GOM cloth over it. It's stapled on the rear and then velco on the cover, the main frame is covered with dense black carpet which works great as the other part of the velco.

Very cool Clinton. I've debated whether to try and hide my speakers or to let them be out in the open. Not sure yet. We close on the house on the 30th.

Youthman, I wouldlove to leave my speakers "naked" but it would destract from the film experience so I have it all blacked out. There will be a door infront of my equipment cabinet soon, in matching fabric/framing.

Great to here about the house, nothing like owning your own house. I bought my first one (townhouse) three years ago, sold it about 3 months ago and bought the house I have my theater in now. Your going to love doing whatever your wife lets you do to the new place. :)

ClintonH: I absolutely LOVE what you accomplished here! Your scrim idea is a work of art! It is very reminicent of a similar technique used in IndyKlipschFan's all-LaScala theater. You are using the same philosophy I used in designing our own HT; to have no distractions to pull your eyes away from the screen. When the grill cloths are in place in my theater (which they always are) and the lights are dimmed, my front speaker array is invisible too. The flat black walls near the front of our room and the flat black ceiling all prevent your eyes from becoming distracted from the screen and the black actually improves the contrast ratio of the screen. Nice theater and a great job, Clinton! Thanks for sharing! -Glenn

Yeah, I feel the same way. I just struggle hiding mine since they are so georgeous. I want them to be a centerpiece. LOL. Who knows what I'll do when we finally move in and begin working on the HT.

Clinton, you have me thinking... I am building my theater right now, however, after testing the speakers up front, I think it's just too busy up front with all my speakers. I was thinking of building a false wall like you have, with the only exception of running an SmX AT screen to put the center behind (I may sell the RC-62 and get another RF-62). I was planning a 100" screen, however, I may up it to 110".

Here's the clutter I'll have now when the basement is done... I would like a clean look, but I also hate hiding these nice looking speakers.

Looks like that's going to turn out great, but is there any reason you can't just leave the grills on the speakers and not bother with a false wall? Yeah, sure, and RF-62 would be in the viewing area if used as a center channel, but if you just kept the RC...They'll be completely black and, in my thinking, difficult to notice in a dark theater with a movie going...just a thought.

The grilles were just taken off for the picture, however, I'm wanting to limit the clutter (black or not). With and AT (acoustically transparent) screen, and RF-62 for the center would be perfect as it would be a perfect tonal match for the other two speakers.

Here's a pic with the grilles on... Still cluttered IMHO.

Here's a quick sketch of what I was thinking... Posted Image
