bluesboy
JB, is this your list or somebody else's opinion?
BigStewMan
of course any list is subjective. in my opinion both steve howe and brian may should be ranked much higher, and eddie van halen at number 5 is way too high--jimi wouldn't be number one if i was making a list either. but, i do like seeing "lists" because when i don't recognize a name, it is fun to learn about this person. oldtimer
Oh yeah JB, there's no way you could pick just 200!
fenderbender
Ace Freely at 125 over Brian Setzer at 160!!!!! Wha-wha-whattttt....... Setzer could easily be in one of the top 50 guitarists of all time
jacksonbart
The list is not mine, I really like a few choices on the list, I also like a few chances the people took in a couple of the choices, of course there are a few where I would respond "WHA WHA WHAT!!!!" Daddy Dee
Does anyone who should be on the list but didn't make it come to mind?
BigStewMan
Does anyone who should be on the list but didn't make it come to mind? actually yes. how about stevie's brother Jimmy Vaughn of the fabulous thunderbirds.
filmboydoug
Oops. "Rock" guitarists. nevermind.
Islander
Tommy Bolin, but no Marc Bolan? And where's Tak Matsumoto? The ranking of the first 10 sort of makes sense, but after that the sequence seems pretty debatable...
gonzp
Neil Schon formally of the Santana band, over Santana? I don't think so......
oldbuckster
No Estabon !!! .................. First four dead on, Hendrix #1, then the Yardbirds .............. Did I not see MIKE BLOOMFIELD on that list ???
fenderbender
Larry "Ler" LaLonde ...Of Primus !!! Shall we start best bassists....Les Claypool Should be #1 ***edit*** Whoops....just saw him at 107 ...nevermind
fenderbender
Oh Yeah...what about ...Rick Derringer!!!!! Kirt hammet is in the top 50 and Rick doesn't get in...WTF
dgoreck
I agree with the first 4,but what got me was Tom Morello at 47 and Slash at 44?? Wow. Tom has such mastery over the guitar, that cover bands can't even come close to him. He's in a different league for making the guitar sing in unusual ways. Just my $0.02. Deang
I don't get any of these lists -- what criteria are they using? If using just mastery of the instrument, then that list is really whacked. How anyone can look down that list and end up with those four at the top is laughable!

Deang
Hadn't noticed that, that's sad. How does Hendrix end up at #1 when Hendrix said that Santana was the best? Look at where they have Steve Howe, Adrian Belew and Robert Fripp.
rplace
Not sure why people get so fired up about these things....if you don't like it make your own list. I dig looking them over and seeing where I agree and disagree. No way any other grouping will agree with yours. My observations about this list. Joe Satriani and Chuck Berry way too high. While I like them both don't think they fit in the top 20-ish. I really like the fact that Pete Townshend broke into the top 50...well not really @54. I don't think he gets the credit he disserves. I have heard people say he is nothing more then a good rhythm guitarist or would make a good #2 in a band. I disagree, I think he is a darn good ax man. Jerry Garcia one notch above Joe Perry, Yikes! I digs me some Jerry, but if we are talking rock guitars I think of Aerosmith/Joe pretty high on that list.
fini
I'd place Steve Morse a lot higher than #27. Top 10, IMHO.
