  10. Still needs some re-writing, but i hope it amuses. Expiration Date “Pumpernickel! What is she doing putting Pumpernickel in me”, said Bettie Bread Box. “It’s always something that smells. Garlic bread, sourdough bread, onion bagels, rye bread. Can’t she ever buy some donuts, or maybe some nice smelling cinnamon bread. Nooooo, of course not, and Mr. God, he’s even worse...” Tell me about it,” said Margaret Microwave, Bettie’s closest friend, they being only two feet from each other on the kitchen counter. “All I ever get used for is making coffee and popcorn. Oh sorry Mr. Coffee, didn’t realize Mrs. God had left you out on the counter. Now don’t go grumbling at me, it’s not personal you know. Oh Bettie, couldn’t they warm up some soup in me, maybe some vegetables or leftovers. The combination of coffee and popcorn makes me nauseous. I mean it wouldn’t be so bad if they washed me every now and then, but nooooooo...” And so it goes. Our two kitchen magpies are at it again. You’d think they run out of breath or something,, but they never do. Shouldn’t complain, living here inside the spice and canned good cabinet is mostly silence. Nobody has much to say when the door’s closed and we’re in darkness. Good thing that neither Mr. nor Mrs. God is a neatnik and cabinet doors are almost always flung open and left open for days at a time. Me? No I don’t say much. When you are a can of creamed corn with a long passed expiration date, you want to stay very quiet and very much in the background. You’re new here so let me tell you a thing or two. What’s your name by the way? Mike Mushroom? Well welcome Mike and be happy you got shoved in here in the back corner. Canned goods and spices in the front the of the cabinet have a distressing tendency to get pulled out, spun through Cary CanOpener, emptied, and their remains tossed into Thomas TrashCan. From there they get put out to THE CURB. THE CURB? Nobody really knows what it is, but nobody sent to THE CURB has ever come back. Now if you’re lucky, you could last back here for years. That is, unless, there’s A Purge. A Purge? Well, from time-to-time and nobody knows what kicks it off or when it’s coming, Mr. or Mrs. God will start opening drawers and tossing things into Thomas Trash Can, and get this: for no apparent reason! The only thing we do know for sure is that if you have an expired expiration date you are almost certain to end up on THE CURB. Now I will admit being back here in the corner is not even close to fun compared to being out in The Kitchen. But it does have its compensations. Why just check out the spice rack. Man those spices come in all shapes and sizes. I like the colorful caps they wear, and just smell them! They make me feel all funny inside. When the doors open I chat them up and we have a good time. Why a while ago Mr. God brought home two identical bottles of Hot Chili Powder. I used to call them Salsa and Verde, which they found very amusing. Sadly they disappeared into Johnny CrockPot in the Great Chili Pogrom of ’09. Oh hey, heads up. I think The Hungarian Paprika has her eye on you. Be careful, she’s a notorious flirt. Just then, Mrs. God walks into the kitchen, a determined look on her face. Looks like she wants to cook up something special. She slides open the appliance dock and pulls out Mo the Mixer and his favorite sidekicks, the eggbeaters Larry and Curley. A quick reach into The Fridg Erator and out comes the eggs. Now it almost impossible to keep their names straight and I get so sick of them yelling “Banzaiiiiiiiiiiii” right before she cracks them open. She also grbs Bertha Butter and, Mr. Marvelous Milk. Then, reaching into our cabinet she comes away with Sally Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips, Suzy Sugar, Flora Flower and Billy Baking Soda. Sliding open a drawer she reaches over the flatware, annoying little fellows who are always yelling “Take me! No take, me! No take me..., to grab Sammy Spatula and then from another cupboard, Mandy Measuring Cup. Pretty soon she’s got parts of my friends in Mo the Mixer, attaches Larry and Curley and turns him on. Now these beaters are the most hedonistic souls you’d ever want to see. As the mixture begins to thicken a bit, it creates a silky smooth surface that washes over their spines to their groans of total pleasure that suddenly turn to cries of pain as Mrs. God tosses in a cup of chocolate chips. A few minutes later as Mrs. God pours the now smooth mixture into Bob the Baking Pan, into the kitchen breezes a very excited Mr. God. “Honey, great news! The bank called and the loan’s finalized. We can mover into the new house next week. When you finish up that cake, let’s go shopping for new furniture. Oh and well we’re at it, I know how much you love to cook, so let’s toss out all this old kitchen stuff and get you all brand new everything!” Things get a bit hazy after this. The Purge was like nothing I had ever seen. I think I passed out half-way through. I don’t know how I survived, but when I awoke I was all alone, so alone in the dark, until, one day the door flew open and light streamed in. It was a new Mrs. God and another, older Mrs. God, called Mom God. Mrs. God said to Mom God, “Mom, thanks so much for helping me get the kitchen organized. I think the spices and cans and such will go fine in the cupboard you just opened”. Ah I thought, new friends to make. Things are looking up. But then she said, “We were in such a hurry to finish the packing we just everything into the boxes. In an day or two, I’ll go through the shelves and make sure that everything with an expired date gets put to THE CURB.” Uh oh.

  11. Hi Guys, I recently got into the world of klipsch with RF-42ii's and my parents were in the market for a surround sound system and I talked them into purchasing the RB51ii system with: RB51ii (fronts) RC52ii (center) RS42ii (surrounds) The only part that is remaining is the subwoofer. I haven't heard great things about the Klipsch SW110 - pros/cons? Also any other sub in the 500 dollar region that would be really good? I've heard a lot about the SVS Subs. Room is 400sqft and is a perfect square. It has marble flooring and a lot of hardwood/glass furniture. Also would the new klipsch reference subs be any good? KLIPSCH R10SW/R12SW? There are no reviews since I believe they are yet to be released? Thanks a ton guys

  15. Joe, well done! one bad azz unit you have there P.S. Congrats you just made the Homeland Security list for a possible terrorist threat, AS seen from google space, NSA may be knocking at your door LOL I wont be hard to catch as my back precludes running , However I do have a couple items that may deter them for awhile...............I just need to hire some strapping young buck to dig my bumker The smoker actually is very easy to build, I found a food grade (Honey) barrel and burnt ot then drilled a few hholes, then used my knock off weber for the fire basket..........all in about 90.00 I get joy out of cooking food when it comes out right, everyone here loved the chicken, I had beef on with it and decided to leave it on in hopes of making some jerky for those with teeth

  18. YES!!! Madisound, that's it. Thanks for that AVGUYTX. I remember my ex only used Parts Exp when all else failed (probably when he too forgot the name of Madisound). I'll have to make a note of that and Parts connection (a new one to me). Could Sound Better, thank you too for the band pass diagram. I'm eager to give that a try. Anybody here have an opinion on using 1/4" ABS plastic plate for crossover bases? My ex used that almost exclusively and only one of all he shared that with had reservations. The reservation was a concern over the plastic possibly developing static electricity and interrupting the crossover frequencies. That both does AND doesn't work in my limited experience. So, this week, I'm going to start some drawings and then order the parts. May not get to work on it for a couple more weekends but this could also be a good winter project too. Thanks again all S

  20. Hi. I bought a pair of RB-81s on ebay. My previous experience is with the Synergy range, and these have a brass plate which links the 2 sets of speaker posts. However, these RB-81s do not have this. Are they missing from the previous owner, or not used on the reference series? Thanks for your assistance

  21. Ok, great, I appreciate the quick response! I hadn't thought of using speaker wire, was thinking I'd have to get more brass plates somehow

  27. It always does. As far as purging the fridge, I have a son in law for that he will eat anything and everything, expiration dates he may not even know they exist. One thing I can say for sure is cleaning out a fridge and freezer after a few day of no elec after a storm will make you think completely different about food.

  30. Hi, sorry I took so long to get back to this. Got a little busy with summer stuff ( ) The price tag for the cross over and diaphragm upgrades is not too much of a surprise. These are stock speakers. we bought them new in 1989ish from Magnolia HIFi in the Seattle area. I wonder if they are even still around or if they got bought up by Best Buy or someone like that. I heard they did. Due to the age of the speakers, I think I will start by replacing the old capacitors with equal value Solen or Jentzen?!?!?. I think Mr. Ex liked Solen best so I'll likely go with those. Anybody have an opinion on how hard it will get if I attempt to do the same to the Marantz 2220B? For my comparison, I installed new capacitors in a 1948ish Philco floor model radio, a 1982 Furuno radar and a small B&K tube tester. They all worked when I was done and I had no parts left over. I'm pretty proud of that no parts left over thang! I also took about 2 years of evening electronics classes at a junior college. Anyway, I think I can find the Crossover capacitors on Parts Express or,,,,well it's going to have to be Parts Express cuz I can't remember the name of the other company that carries Solen brand Capacitors. Dammit!, they also have a good line of coils too. Well, maybe it'll come to me. Thanks so much for the nice comments and advice. Hope I don't become too much of a pest while doing this. And, if I need to start a new thread, lemme know, eh? Thanks again. S

And for guys that say oh it makes the soundstage so much bigger and more immersive. See my room for pics of my insanely oversized speakers. Trust me it don't get any bigger sounding for me in my room.

  35. That's cool I never knew that. Many were just cruising and some were being crazy, we went back the next day on Sunday and it had calmed down a little. At one point I was trying to get pictures kind of hiding behind the car, at any point one of the bikes could have come loose from the road, some were on the edge. This is one of the pic's after some of the crazy people had left, he was just playing. It's a great place to see all kinds of bikes and cars pass having fun.

  36. Couple weeks ago I finally tried some Redbreast Irish whiskey. Not much just an ounce, and I was buzzed all ready. It kind of burned, I think I will try it on the rocks next time. I picked up a bottle of Rogue dead guy whiskey, I haven't tried it yet so I think some old fashions are in order this weekend.

  45. K-horns dig deeper in frequency but La Scala has better midbass, they sound somewhat similar and some like one over the other. I prefer La Scala's with a good horn loaded subwoofer, you get better midbass & lower bass notes than the K-horn is capable of producing.
