  2. i thought it would be fun to start a thread so we could talk about how much our kids are following in our footsteps down this very fun road of audio enjoyment! So let's post some pics of our kids and our speakers! my son is 3.5 years old and for the last year or so he has been able to turn on the tv, open cabinets, knows exactly which input button the blu ray player is on on the avr, turns on the inuke for the subs, and blu ray player on as well as open it. only thing he isn't allowed to do is touch the disc themselves. he loves listening to music no matter what its on right now, although as he gets older i'm sure he will respect a nicer sounding system. He is very good at not messing with my speakers, and when we have friends over with kids much older than him (6-10yr olds) he tells them to stay away from daddy's speakers.

  3. Im about 40 now and when I was 12 I will never forget my buddys mom bought him brand new jbl speakers from best buy...man was it killer. He had an older 70's high current receiver and them jbls blew pretty fast...It took us all a short amount of time to find used pa systems laying around that would rock the whole town. Music is life. Speakers make music. Klipsch make like easy

  5. Sincere congrats to you and Steven. I still remember our first "run in" when you censored my photos of the kid that was running with a fork, tripped, and it punctured his nose! At the time, you said the pictures reminded you too much of your own son, who I hope is still fork free... Chris

  6. Hi everyone! I admit it. I've missed my kids subjects cats-to-herd friends. I hope all is well -- I haven't been looking at the forums much lately. So busy! Being involved in a start up company is a crazy experience. There's so many little things to address that never would occur to me, so many twists and turns along the way...so revealing of the people involved. A character building exercise in the real world, I think. But so rewarding. I do miss my Klipsch cohorts (talking to you, Chex), and of course the excellent products and customers. There isn't a place like it on earth For those of you who said you'd keep in touch and haven't, shame on you! For those of you who I haven't gotten back to, shame on me! I haven't deleted any emails, I promise! Hope you all have a great labor day weekend. Steven is turning 10 on Sunday...if you can believe that. So spill. Tell me how you're doing.

  8. i found i preferred them with an amp over not having an amp. i run mine off a lower power avr but when you crank it you can tell it runs out of gas. when i had an amp they just kept on singing up to reference levels. and welcome!!

  11. Great topic! I am totally passing on the legacy. Both of my children now have Klipsch 5.1 systems in their homes and they both do appreciate good sound. Son 23, daughter 21. My first Klipsch system was Quintet II 5.1 system. When my son moved out those speakers got setup at his place. Recently we got him upgraded to KG 5.1 system (awesome KG 5.5s). Then the Quintet IIs went to my daughters place after she got married just a couple of months ago. LOL - she came to me shortly after they moved into their place and was complaining about the crappy sound coming from their TV. Klipsch to the rescue! So far, I have been good at buying klipsch speakers and not very good at letting them go.

  12. I have 2 teenage daughters that appreciate good sounds, but they don't pursue it much. They listen to their iPhone mostly. They do like their guitars though.

  14. Now were talking about some serious research before buying, grill, smoker, both ? If I were you I would go for a smoker, think about it like this, smoking takes a long time, while your waiting you can kill some time like this

  15. I think the answer here is that none of us know how many speakers we have. We have to stop and think about it and then, after we have the answer (which takes a bit of effort to figure out), all of the sudden, we remember a few more pairs hidden somewhere... We all need help!

  16. You going to Portland this month? You be about to miss out for this month. Maybe just a little coffee while it's cool. Couldn't get to sleep at all last night. I'm sure it hit me later and I'll be sleeping in the day. AGAIN My speaker buying is now dialed into one more set of EAW stacks this year, to be stored for the new house. I have one year and three months to procure our retirement abode, the search has already started. Nevada outback. Now that iv tuned in the Active system enough to pizz off neighbors, im satisfied, and can now move on to the little things in life like "Grills". When the wife and i come up that way we will be going to Bandon, to party.

  18. "but those differences are not always audible or significantly audible." One of the members here did a test with several others doing the listening. Most preferred the K77 (we are told). I think the K77 sounds like a cheese-grater, and feel there is a LOT of room for improvement. I loved it when they replaced the K77 in the newer Cornwalls, Heresy, etc.

  19. Are you liking your reference deal, and do you still think the RF-3's are an upgrade over the VF-35's? Yes. I am very happy with them. The center channel and surrounds are a more noticable upgrade than the RF-3's, but the RF-3's are still a step up. Overall, I think the RF-3's provide more definition and clarity than the VF-35's. I am also noticing a fuller front sound stage with the reference and the surrounds stand out more than they did before (in a good way). I enjoyed the VF-35's for almost 5 years, but I recently upgraded my receiver and really wanted to get into the reference line. I think this was a great first step to that end. Derrick is right, there is just something about the reference line. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase. Thanks for all the input, guys!

  27. I started a thread over on AVS but this is my main audio forum. I have had a Pioneer SC-1523-K sitting in a box for a few months untouched. I purchased it off Amazon so I hope I am not up the creek without a paddle.. I unplugged a Pioneer VSX-50 receiver that was working perfectly and plugged in the SC-1523. I got audio from BD and my HD cable box but no picture. The BD would flash off and on but would never stay on. I messed around with the video settings and got the 720P ans 4K video settings to work. I do not like the picture of the 720P setting and the 4K setting is very dull. The setup consists of: HDMI 1 from my LED TV to receiver out 1. Cable is plugged into CBL/SAT and into cable box BD is plugged into BD on the receiver and into the BD player. The cables are all matching $40 hi speed/3D HDMI cables. Any insight from the brilliant minds of this forum? The dull picture from the 4K video setting is making me crazy but at least i have a picture.. I am also worried about sending it back since I bought it from Amazon. This is my 4th high-end Pioneer receiver, no issues for any of the previous models. Please help!

  33. May I inquire as to why you'd want to use the surround speakers as mains and the mains as surrounds? Seems like you're just reversing what the setup should normally be.

  35. Agreed... However, I see the Cowboy' staying the same this year and the Texans making progress. It's not hard to make progress when you've lost the last 14 games in a row. They made progress when they sent Schaub to the raiders.

  36. Most likely the female end of the cable has become loose/worn causing a poor connection. Glad the unit has come to life. Be sure to give your electrical engineers a swift kick in the nuts for not locating the problem during inspection.

  39. There is a hand shake issue. Try HDMI OUT 2 or mover the HDMI out of the BD in the back of the avr to HDMI 3 or 4 and make sure the avr is on the new HDMI input.

  41. The serial should be stamped on the back, since they aren't readable from the labels. However, they are c.1977 (like my Belle), since they have the laser tags that were only used for a few years. Good luck. Keep us posted and upload some photos if you score them.
