  4. 2 of the KP682 subs - these are like the cinema KPT 684's but have metal grilles, NL4 pro connectors, and handles/wheels so they easily tilt back for transport. The BIG boys! 4 KP362 three way trapezoidal tops. 15", 60 degree Tractrix horn and K792 tweeter (the one with biggest magnet and tractrix horn). Tight packed they create a approx 110 degree coverage. I've used these for a few years with a Crown K2 per sub and K2 split for the tops and can share my Driverack settings with you. They have a few chips and scrapes but are in good enough shape to be put into service today. The tops have been rewired so that a single 4 conductor cable goes from amp racks to subs, then jumpers from subs to tops. Subs are 1+/-, Tops are 2 +/- so if you are using Crown Xti amps you can split them between sub and top on an individual amp if you prefer (Crown internal crossover are designed for this type operation). NEVER overdriven! Although I've owned these for several years, they have gotten very light use, having been taken out only 3-4 times per season, usually small bar or outdoor fest gigs. Tops came from a church in CA where they were flown, obtained by Bill Hendrix, and the bottoms were acquired by myself and IndyKlipschFan from a band Green Bay WI. In Indianapolis, for immediate pickup. Guys, this is only about $350 per box - what a deal! Tour the House of Klipsch while you're here. Makes a great bar system (Jazz Kitchen has had this exact setup for years, it is featured on the Klipsch website). Remind me and I'll give you the flyware brackets for them - so you can safely install in a flown rigged position with absolute security! I've switched to a Danley system, using LAB subs recently acquired from a friend, and Yorkville U15 tops, a combination that I've used here in town with Jennie Devoe's soundman for a few years now. 5. Mornin gang: Looks like we have yet another fire bug in these parts, just up the road from me in Auburn, four fires started yesterday afternoon. A few homes already lost, as usual our local news sucks, will be calling in to fire command after 6am and get the skinny on these. May be going to work again, we shall see. First cup of the Major Dickinsons going down smooth, I see by the package of coffee, it's just like Blended Scotch, they tell you it's Blended but they dont tell what it's Blended with

Also have a yamaha RX-V475 receiver. Any suggestions, ideas greatly appreciated. Don't have a sub and don't think I want one, not a bass head. Love Pink Floyd . Sent from my SCH-I435 using Tapatalk

  11. I'm reading random AK threads and one of them triggered a long-standing annoyance.. Is anyone irked by people that refer to their audio (or any hobby) gear as an "addiction", "falling off the wagon", etc? people that hoard gear probably have underlying issues - I'm excluding them from this discussion. I'm talking about people that chuckle along and think it's fun to associate their hobby with the struggle of addiction. i'm probably just being hypersensitive, but as part of my DWI probation terms I had to participate in counseling which included group sessions with people battling all sorts of addictions. people trying to clean up from meth so they could get their kids back, or battling with alcohol and depression and a 3rd DWI as a consequence, or just trying to jump start life from heroin addiction.

  14. That brings back memories dtel. We were lucky enough to have a pool and dipped water out of the pool to fill the toilet tanks so they'd flush. We kept a pail in the bathroom. If you emptied the bucket, you fill it for the next person. Even though there was no running water or electricity, we still had a land line. When the generator ran, we had internet and could see what the progress was around us. Once neighbors found out we didn't evacuate we started getting calls to clean out freezers. We were told to keep whatever was still frozen and throw everything else away. I must have broken into over a half a dozen houses and never actually broke anything. We bbq'd every night as I had filled both propane tanks prior to the storm. For the first couple days we could rinse off in the pool but it wasn't long before it started turning green from no circulation and the tremendous amount of leaves that ended up there. Fun times.

  22. Don't forget to tip. I think that's illegal except in Vegas ? On a trip in Nevada we seen lots of pink trailer houses out in the middle of nowhere. Appeared to be business as usual. One of the pink trailers had a power line running to it. Also had a twin engine aircraft upside down between the house and the road. We figured some pilot was buzzing the place and did not see the power line. Laughed some more and speculated that the plane was left as advertizing. Anyone know a pilot that might have buzzed a ***** house or two? Just asking.

Misses the point of going Vegan. Just my two cents as a meat eater now almost three years in to a no meat no fish no dairy no fat/oil heart attack survivor. Best regards Moray James.

  24. Hi, and welcome. OK, so yes, you are saying that the "thinness" is from the speakers...that was already confirmed, sort of, by reference_head, and he suggested a sub, which you are already using. And yes, it is certainly possible that you are used to your JBL's. You've upgraded the crossovers to the A/4500, and gone to the CT-125 tweeter. Now you would like to know how to tame the slight brightness on some recordings and smooth out the speakers overall. And you are asking what to do with the K-55, which seems to be last on your list. Do I have all of that correct? I'm sure that there will be lots of other questions (You asked for it!! ) But I have to ask something seemingly very basic, but which a lot of people fail to consider....what is your listening environment? Do you have hardwood floors or carpet? Size of your room? Upholstered furniture? Any acoustic treatment at all? Ceiling height and composition? How far away are you sitting, and how far apart are the Scala's? Are they in a corner, against a wall, toed in, flat? All of these things have to be considered, in addition to your components. And, of course, your source material. Some of it may naturally be brighter, and/or not particularly well recorded, another consideration. So anyway, it's getting late and I'll give others a chance here. Good luck with your investigation, you've come to the right place. Try not to feel overwhelmed, most everybody just wants to help....

  28. You don't have to be a bass head to have a sub in your system. Why lop off the bottom octave or two? It's there, you might as well hear it. A good sub absolutely makes the movie experience. I'd do 3 Heresy's across the front with a quality sub.

  29. Well, there might have been some sense in that....could be that low price means low quality, and by repricing it higher the seller could have appealed to a different group. Something similar happened to me quite some time ago when I was selling my first house....had it priced at a certain level, and no lookers and no offers for 3 months. Raised the price by $25K, and it sold in a week. Could have been coincidence, but then, maybe not.

  32. as of September 30, there are 7,492 total cases in Africa, 3,439 resulting in death - and that's an environment with extremely inefficient containment protocols. How do you extrapolate that to Hitler era genocide? FFS man. Very easy. In Africa, they travel much more by foot and villages are far apart. In America, you may know, we travel by air in these sealed aluminum cans that if you sneeze in the people around you in a 15 foot diameter are likely to inhale what you just ejected through tiny droplets of moisture. There are literally thousands of these flights everyday. Add to that an incubation period of up to 21 days and someone who got sneezed on after this guy developed symptoms boards a plane and fly's to New York...develops symptoms and sneezes on 15 people. Do the math for Gods sake. It isn't rocket science. AND...Ebola presents like the flu. Guess what season we are coming in to? FLU SEASON. So there may be more falst positives and there may be more people who don't go to the hospital because "all they think they have is the flu." Our very efficient system of 'protocols' could likely be overwhelmed dealing with all of the reports of 'flu like symptoms.' Heck, ONE guy walked into a Dallas hospital and told them he had just come from Africa and they sent him home! And this is the system of protocols you are relying on? You tell me if New Yorkers develop 15,000 cases of flu over the next few months if they are going to isolate each and every one of them? Really? Test each of them for Ebola? Now take into account Los Angelos and the other major metro cities....Jesus. Do you know how many hospitals are equipped to fully isolate an Ebola victim much less a hundred presenting symptoms? Do you think for one minute they aren't just going to send some of them home and 'hope' they only have the flu? Additionally, The initial outbreak happened when? August 29. So in just over a month in an area where air travel is rare and people are farther apart it went from one person to more than 7000! AND some sources estimate that by the end of the year it will be up towards 100,000 infections (I don't have the site handy). Remember....that's where they don't have big cities and the don't travel by air as much as we do. I'm happy to debate you on the merits and the facts. But from you all I've seen from you so far is accusations of paranoia and an "oh geeze." If you've got more, Please bring it to the table! And this just in...I know it's not from one of your 'reputable' new sources, but what the hey...I'm just paranoid: http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-10-08/2nd-dallas-patient-shows-ebola-symptoms-cbs-reports Fair enough, I'll disengage from the discussion.

  40. again, it's been about 6 months since we last talked about it and I only see more HAM infrastructure being erected. don't know if he's spent more time researching or if his facts have changed. i'm wondering if amortization is relative to your installation size. residential installations would be limited to specific roof sections and would likely not produce much power each day. out here we can dedicate whole sections of field to panel farms - more cost to build, but also more sun absorption per day.

  41. I do some work for our local transit agency and we installed a Solar System on top of some light-rail platforms to be more sustainable. I had to contact the power company and they came out and installed a net meter on the service and we installed the latest and greatest panels on the top of each platform. We then worked with a consultant that installed the system and a monitoring display at each platform and showed the power being saved at that moment in time and what was saved over a given duration. I am not anti-solar but I learned a few things along the way... Also to note our project was funded by Blue Sky funding so we did not pay for any of the infrastructure, it was a grant. We did not order the solar panels until the week prior to install - the reason is that the technology changes so fast that by the time we ordered them and had them made the panels would already begin to go obsolete and be outdated with newer ones being made cheaper and better. Over cast days and dirt significantly reduce the effectiveness of the panels, so much so that we have added a task to the maintenance workers of pressure washing the platform canopies weekly. In fact from November to January we have so few sunny days, offset by inversion, made worse by the 12 hour daylight that our canopies are nearly ineffective during those periods. Add a skiff of snow or grit and that's all she wrote. We opened the light-rail line in April of 2013. We do capture enough to run the led lighting and the passenger information signs for 24 hours, and get real close to a zero balance in the summer months. Our canopies are just not large enough for any really great savings. So as far as installing this on your home, think big, and think of a way to try and keep them clean. I think it's a great step in the right direction, but from my experience not sure much was gained from our exercise except as a marketing tool. If you have the right mindset of never receiving a return on the investment, more of a doing my part... it can be successful. If you have some questions I can try and help, but I only managed the project.

  42. my father in law is working through this now. I believe he's setting it up simply to feed back into the grid for utility discounts and NOT storing it on-site to run the house. I know there are reasons (both regulatory and technical design) behind that decision but we haven't had enough time to really sit down and talk about that subject lately - so I'm not much help to you right now. i think he said the infrastructure would be amortized over 5-7 years. my brother in law uses solar panels to run his aquaponics operation, but that's small scale and not tied into the house.

I own both Albums, in Vinyl... I own both Albums on CD... I also Own Close to the Edge on Half Speed Master Vinyl and SACD... in addition I own The Yes Album on SACD. ALL OF THOSE FORMATS are no where near what Blu ray audio uncompressed has delivered... Pure Nirvana. The presence, the presentation, the separation are all light years ahead of any of those older formats. both those releases are stunning.

  45. If those are polyesters, they should come out. The 60th Anniversary Klipschorn sure sounded better without them (compared to stock Klipschorn). Coils are optional -- I would have an air core in the high pass. I would probably change out the penny junk wirewounds too. If they're too hot, you can adjust the value of the single resistor. There you go Chief, all fixed.
