  1. No Steve just the same Wheeling, W. Va. accent as before. She did bring back some Irish whisky and some French lingerie When she drives back later this month she is bring a amp for the electric guitars. I may switch over to electric to see if that will be easier. Hope your weekend is going well. Wish I was closer and you could tutor me on the guitar!

  4. Your right, I was thinking I was a good bit younger last time I had one and it was no fun then. I started laughing as I typed this, I remember when our first daughter was almost a year old my wife had her laying on the water bed. I was playing with her and jumped on the bed not thinking, back then it was full motion. the poor girl was launched in the air and off the bed onto the floor. My wife wanted to kill me and all I could say was sorry, I just didn't think before jumping, she was not hurt and didn't even cry but I was in trouble.

  5. A Les Paul and a Paul Reed. Don't know the model numbers. The spelling of whiskey is interesting. If there is an "e" in the country name such as Ireland or United States it is spelled with an "e" but if there is no "e" in the country name such as Canada, Japan, Scotland it is spelled whisky. There is quite a controversy about this subject and I double checked on google. Charlotte is about a four hour drive from Wilmington.

  6. Roger, I think your search bears more investigation. I think you judge speakers like I do, which is how accurate the speaker is relative to a known musical instrument. In this particular case, you are listening to woodwinds. I listen to piano to determine accuracy. I have a vintage set of Klipsch CF-4 Epic speakers. Piano sounded good on them, but I felt the pitch was about 1/3 octave too high. I did some minor mods with acoustical polyfil and the bass reproduction was spot on, with no loss of that "live" sound. A piano sounded like a piano should. After that, all the other instruments, voice, etc sounded great. FYI my ears are sensitive to horns and percussion, not so much as woodwinds like your ears are. What I hear some of the other forum members suggesting is that a vintage Klipsch speaker which can be had for the same money as a newer set might give you a better setup for a 2-channel music setup. The advantage of used gear is two-fold; you can get great sound for a fraction of new, and the vintage Klipsch gear really keeps its value. If you buy vintage Heresy's for $400, you will likely be able to sell them for $400. If you buy new anything for $400, you will be looking to resell for half that amount. You might consider buying vintage, listen in your own home for a while, and if they aren't for you, sell them at the same price. New will always be out there.

  7. Yes, had a waveless type of waterbed...king size and yes even in Florida a heater is a must. Them pies look good. Like a woman that know how to cook multiple pies. Only thing I can recall spraining was big toe sprained while walking on the waterbed. Now where was I ...pie

  8. A waterbed? Please, I'd have to get help just to get out of it.

  9. I doubt it will be exact but I think it will be close enough. If not, I'll angle them downwards a tad. Yeah, especially if I add a bass bin below it.

  11. It's funny looking back on my original build thread that is in my signature. When I first began, I knew ZERO about Home Theaters and how to even begin the process of designing one. It was an incredible journey watching the transformation from a blank "Media Room"..... into a Dedicated Home Theater....

  12. just stick to it. what does she have in the form of electric? I will warn you … electric is going to be easier with those lighter strings; BUT, like Klipsch speakers, they’re going to highlight mistakes once your “plugged in.” So don’t get discouraged. Trust me, it won’t be long till you’re bragging about how much progress you’ve made. One of my very good friends lives in Charlotte -- he’s always after me to come visit. How far is that from you? you noticed the whiskey?

  15. There is a bakery in a nearby town that sells this kind of pie for $5.99 a slice. Is is expensive to make if made right. She is using 3 cups of pecan halves, 1/.2 cup of choc chips, sugar cane syrup (use Steens of you have it), light corn syrup, 4 eggs, vanilla extract, you get the idea.

  18. I've had the distinct privilege of meeting over a dozen members of the Forum over the years and have been richer for meeting each and everyone of them. After hanging out here for over a decade, there are far too many I'd like to meet to possibly list them all, so I'm going with my primary group of expert technicians that have kept me from burning down my house and neighborhood any number of times. That would be Mike (MikeBSE2A3), Craig (Nosvalves) and Maynard (TubeFanatic). Oh and I'd really like to meet this hirsute Forum fellow. I'm pretty sure I could score a really large blunt off of him

  22. One thing to try when you build your platform for the La Scala's is to center the mid-range horn at ear level to determine height. However, the drawback to this is if you ever add K-402 horns on top of them, the height will be off.

  23. Indeed it is. We had to hit pause on the build for a few months due to Wake's neck surgery but he's slowly getting his strength back and seems as excited as I am to begin working on the construction of the new front wall. I love the impact the Dual RSW-15's have. I haven't done any scientific testing to see how it has effected the other seats but where I sit, there seems to always be a smile on my face. I can't wait to hear Wake's dual 18" IB Subs. Who knows, it might cause me to sell my RSW-15's. I'm a little bit excited. Wake is building this as if he was building it for himself so there is no doubt it will be done right and will far exceed what I have right now.

  24. LOVE PRS…(the Paul Reed Smith)…VERY comfortable guitar. i was thinking about the spelling of whisky as i wrote that and wasn’t sure when an “e” was used and when it wasn’t. guess that’s why i just say booze--actually when i was still drinking, i was a tequila man. But, like whisky and whiskey and beer.

  27. This is what Earl looks like. Earl Hall IMG_4084.JPG I met Earl when he made a trip to West Virginia to pick up some gear. In a garage with 50 pairs of speakers he was able to pick out the two best sets, do some impromptu critical listening. He managed to pick out the flaws and then ultimately choose the best set of speakers in the place, no easy task under the circumstances. He is thoughtful, makes decisions almost instantly, and makes the right ones. In same environment, it took me weeks to figure what all those speakers were. I posted a Pic of Rumsfeild out of the ut most respect of Earl, Sec of defense is one position i respect more than the president. Earl and i have had some great dealings in the past, and i really had NO idea what he looked like, just take in good Jest earl Hell. I wouldn't even want to meet Earl

  30. Still sleeping on a waterbed...35+ years and counting. Tried a regular bed about 20 years ago and it was like sleeping on a concrete driveway. The type we have had since is the near motionless one. Two black labs are up on it every night. They are really digging the warmth seeing as we keep the T-stat at 59 degrees on the furnace. Rarely goes on with the wood stoves going. Haven't had propane delivered in years. Been putting slippers on the foot corners of the waterbed to keep the hounds off during the day. Didn't stop Blaze the other day so I had to add a couple magazines. They are on it as i type this because they know if they get down I will put stuff on it to keep them off. Blockheads!

  32. You just brought back yet another memory from years past, McGreggor boat company, (First real job) $1.65 per hour, and i had money, pocket change, but you could live on it. Bet that office water bed was handy, young guy, surfing and hanging out on the beach, your dad set you up and may not have even realized. Id stay at the shop a few times a week, tired of sleeping bags, so i got the water bed, set that puppy right on the slab (did not know these beds were to have heaters), still remember the first morning waking up, as well as a couple friends were on the bed, we all had backaches due to the fact the Bed sucked out our body heat throughout the night , from that point on, three sleeping bags on top of that puppy!

  34. Hello; Looking for some input on a pair of Heresy II Signature Edition WO with cane grills. They have been upgraded with new Crites crossovers and new Crites Titanium Tweeter diaphragms. They also have slanted risers. I will be auditioning these tomorrow. The seller will also include the original non-slanted riser bases and hard dome diaphragms if I wanted to return to them to original stock. I'm just wondering if $700 is a fair price. Thanks in advance for any input.

  35. I'm thinking it's time to replace the factory Panasonic speakers in the motorhome. In a small speaker, is there anything better (no bigger) than the Klipsch Quintet? The Quintet is physically about an inch larger than the current speakers and I can't fit anything any larger than them.

  38. It looks like it was in late October/early Nov. that we spoke about these. I thought you had a deal around $1100 with him. It is a tough time to sell right now, so he might take less (at least less than asking price). They look to be in great shape.

  39. Good taste in audio and footwear Duder and Thaddeus … you’ve got two of the big three … well done my friends. Whilst those are my favorite shoes of all time -- i went a bit more retro this time … black leather PF Flyers (not sure of your age; but, they look identical to your high top Chuck Taylors). I’m sure a few guys around here will remember running faster, and jumping higher in their PF Flyers.

  40. We made an adjustment to the top cabinets and made three wider cabinets instead of 5 smaller cabinets. They will mainly be for storing audio boxes and things that I rarely need access to. Wake also added some side columns to the rendering since we have columns at our front entry, as well as in my wife's office in our bedroom.

  42. That's always good, but really, looking at your 2 Ch list of equipment it shouldn't be a suprise, really nice equipment you have put together. One question, just for fun have you ever tried the Cornwalls with the Scott and Thorens TT ? Just wondering, it's a cool combination. Thanks for the compliment on my gear.As far as your question, no I haven't but is something I have wanted to do. Just never got around to it.

  43. I've met many at past Pilgrimages, especially one several yeas ago at Hope, and had a modest number at my place on concert occasions like Thebes, Garymd, and DWILawyer once. I always enjoy meeting them, would like to add Boxx, Oldtimer, Tromprof, Jeff, and numerous others to the list. Gary's is a jazz, vinyl, and tube Mecca, also in MD.

Robin: Sorry, Dingbat. The Youthcave is irresistible. Batman: Youthmaaaaaaaaan, you're not getting away with this!!! STAY TUNED NEXT WEEK, SAME BAT TIME, SAME BAT CHANNEL (Okay, I'm stopping now.
