  1. Well it went well and everyone had fun, it ended up being about 50 people which was fine. People were in the bar area, the yard, in front the house and inside the house, music was playing inside and in the bar. Around midnight the power went out by the bar, the music stopped and the lights went out but is was still bright with all the tiki torches and fire and it didn't slow down anything. I thought a breaker tripped with all the crock pots and everything fired up so I went inside to flip the breaker and it was DARK ! I lit some candles inside so people could find the bathroom. I went back out and told everyone the power was out in the whole neighborhood and they cheered they could have cared less. A little later fire trucks passed on the street and everyone slowed down seeing all the people and fires then kept going. One truck stopped later in front the house for a while so I walked out to ask what happened and he said it was a house fire but everyone was OK. Around 1 am the power came back on and there was another cheer when the lights and music came back on. Around 2 about it thinned down to about 25 people with a few leaving off and on, the last 8-10 left around 3 or so I think. Ever notice as a party goes on they want the music louder and louder, it started out kind of like background music and worked it's way up as people requested, it was fun even considering I knew no one except my wife and daughter. Everyone said we really need to make it a regular thing which we will. There were so many cars they were everywhere, there were even a bunch on the front grass and down the street. I know the rules pic's or it's made up.......

I seemed to have moved up to three cups a day recently. Jake walked in the rain. Warm rain....but rain. Cheers Gents

  5. Your music would be better served with no equalizer at all. I know I am going to be crucified for suggesting such a thing in this forum, but I stand by it. Focus more on ancillaries such as good equipment, speaker/listener position and room treatment. This will reap dividends in good sound that is free of electronic artifacts that more processing adds. 9. Shaun has made miraculous improvements overnight. I contribute this to all the prayers. In the last 24 hrs he has gone from using the walker as a necessity to walking unassisted. He was having trouble formulating sentences at times, but that appears resolved also. He feels great except a headache that wavers in severity. We still need prayers for his artery to heal without causing additional strokes. We are still in a critical period. If it can heal without causing additional strokes, he should be able to get back to most normal activities. Sports and any jarring activities are still out of the question, but that will be just fine.

  10. Belated greetings guys. My sometimes music playing buddy is in the hospital for MRI after several falls and now we gotta run to the in-laws. Not the ideal Sunday but at least I/we can help out. Saw the beard Duder. Pretty good. I have a goatee and really need it since I have more hair on my face (and ears and nose) than on my head these days. Cheers to all.

  15. Bought a Hario Skerton manual coffee grinder yesterday from a new local business, along with his freshly roasted Papua New Guinea. Very much like the grinder, even though it does take a couple of minutes to grind it properly, but not thrilled with the PNG. Somewhat high in acid, and not as dark as I like....oh well, I'll finish the bag then back to my Honduran. He told me he would be on the lookout for the Monsoon Malabar.

  16. Tarheel sure loves his grits. About the only place around here that serves them up. Is Cracker Barrel. This morning it was just the wife and I as the kids are off at grandma's. So we treated ourselves to Duncan Doughnuts. I had a sausage egg and cheese crescent. It was good, I am going to try their new dark roast coffee, as I didn't really care for their original.

  19. This is a PSA and I know that many will have read my concerns before. If you haven’t then I hope this resonates with you. We’ve recently lost Boxx and as of today, looks like Wake Junkie was given a scare with a second chance. I think we all know intellectually that nobody is guaranteed ‘tomorrow’. Hopefully, this will kick-start everyone into some reviews of your affairs and get things in order. Do you have a checking or savings account that is in your name alone? Do you have a brokerage account (non-IRA) that is in your name alone? Do you have any of the above that are in joint name with a parent or spouse? Do you have beneficiaries on ALL your accounts, INCLUDING your 401K? In all the above examples (and for sake of keeping this post short, I’ll not (yet) get into any details…..if the thread withers away, it withers away. If it creates another round of discussion then I’ll carry on as I’ve done in the past (or you can maybe search and read my old comments) EVERYONE should go to your bank and put a “POD” (Pay on death) designation on EVERY account at your bank. “Oh, but Richard, I have a WILL that takes care of that” Bunk. You are living with false confidence. (though technically, the statement is correct) The Will simply says who gets it and that’s all. The Will (for lack of better word) actually DICTATES that your things go through probate prior to your children getting them. If you put a POD on your checking account, it will bypass probate and go MUCH quicker and much easier to your loved one(s). Brokerage account(s)…. Put a “TOD” or Transfer on Death designation on them. Again, a TOD (like POD) supersedes your will and allows the asset to totally bypass the probate process. Oh, but I have my 40 year old daughter as my joint owner. BAD BAD BAD idea. Why? Suppose she’s involved in a car accident or something in life (divorce?) where she gets sued. All of “her” assets (1/2 of your account) can be attacked….. do you want to have YOUR account involved in HER situation? NO. The way around it is make her POD/TOD beneficiary, give her power of attorney and be done with it. You are now totally protected from her creating an issue. I doubt that Boxx had any remote fear of anything being an immediate threat to him. I doubt Wake Junkie expected his stroke. Fortunately for Wake Junkie, he’ll read this and his light bulb will go off as to the wisdom of this thread. Everyone understands and jumps to do these things once they've been awakened. I'm just trying to wake you up prior to a more serious event waking you up (or perhaps, not waking you as in the case of Boxx) Everyone (and I mean 100% everyone) needs to do something like this. If you love your family, why would you choose to do something that will make their life that much more complicated when, at the stroke of a pen, you can simplify it for them? (NOT having a TOD/POD on your accounts is every bit as much of a choice as having them) I challenge everyone to contact your broker, contact your banker…..ask about a TOD or POD and get the forms. Just remember, POD is done at the bank and TOD is done at the brokerage firm. I challenge anyone who actually DOES this to report back to the thread!!! The gauntlet has been dropped. Guys, (gals?) show your family that you love them enough to take care of some of the little details.

What a lazy day which was well needed. Dog is sleeping on my lap, I have 2 slabs of ribs in the smoker and listening to good tunes. Maybe a nap here or there.

  24. I have tried to make minor adjustments but, it is so hard with all the things that Auddysee, MCACC and other correction systems do to the system. Usually after a few days I change everything back. I just go with what MCACC gives which is a flat frequency respones. I find that it gives me the best sound. One thing I don't understand, Auddysee users undo so many things and yet, this is the bigdog autocorrection system. Manual EQ may works best in simple 2 ch systems not using DSP.

  27. I will admit I want to use this as a resource to go to so I can look for new Acoustic Music. It has quickly become one of my favorite genre to listen to My definition of Acoustic does not mean a recording need be 100% Acoustic rather be predominately Acoustic. I am currently listening to Rodrigo-Y-Gabriela, Stairway to Heaven on the MHDT and I must say it is glorious right up there with the best vinyl playback I have heard, This dac and acoustic are made for each other. So please post some of your favorite acoustic music here, I will start off with a few of my favorites Steve Earl, Transcendental Blues, Over Yonder Rodrigo-Y-Gabriela, self titled album, C.U.B.A. Area 51 Eric Clapton, Unplugged (Deluxe version from HD Tracks is amazing) White Stripes, Get Behind Me Satan, As Ugly as I Seem Ray Lamontagne, Gossip in the Grain, Trouble, Till the Sun Turns Black, all Excellent IMHO Damien Rice, Anything Sulfjan Stevens, Michigan, Illinoise Bon Iver, For Emma Forever Ago Bruce Springsteen, Basically anything he did Acoustic I will add more as I think of them

  29. I took a few lessons when I was 33...remember saying to myself, "I ought to be pretty good by the time I'm 40". I'm now 51 and still suck, but I am still trying and when my guitar is in my hands I drink less. I'm giving it a better run this year. You have to attempt to play songs you like and not just boring exercises, all though important. Keep it going! Maybe Stew will help us stay motivated.

  31. The chart posted above can be totally misleading as a tube which sounds "warm" in one piece of equipment, may sound entirely different in another. Much depends on the tube's operating parameters. It's frustrating when someone calls me to say that they bought, say, a 12AX7 which was supposed to sound a certain way and they found it to be the opposite. A person really needs to draw his own conclusions by putting the tubes in question into their own equipment and simply listening. Also, due to normal production tolerances, supposedly identical tubes may not sound the same. There's also the issue of microphonics which can be evaluated by doing no more than gently tapping the tubes with the eraser end of a pencil and listening for any amplified sound of the elements vibrating in the speakers. I dont know of any other way to logically test for that (and I know that some tube vendors specifically state that tubes may not be returned for microphonics). Maynard

  32. Very nice grinder Gary! tnr.....no more guitar lessons since the first two. Doing some from YouTube but it's really slow going. Thanks for asking though. I will give it a year. We've got some serious coffee drinkers here. Guess we should mention cables since audio came up. Anybody like their cables? If you tie them in a knot does it slow the music tempo?

On the secondary side, your black wires equal the blue secondaries in the illustration your blue wires equal the green in the illustration. Again, I'd test this outside of the amp. I like this illustration because it includes the fuse. Mike

  39. Jim, I'll take the counterpoint and ask why you want to bother using an equalizer in the 2 channel system. The best sound is always obtained by having the fewest powered electronic devices in the signal path as they add all kinds of artifacts no matter how good their quality. Better results are often obtained by simply making minor adjustments in speaker placement such as distance to the rear wall (especially true for your RF-25s), and toe-in relative to your listening position. Even adding or removing innocent items like books from nearby book cases can have a noticeable effect depending on the listening level. I have often demonstrated how electronics affects sound by replacing preamps, as one example, with a passive line stage. Even non-audiophiles were able to hear a distinct difference. Maynard Looks like Shakey and I were simultaneously thinking the same thing!

  41. Since nobody has sprung for them here I'll mention my experience with like speakers. Forum member Speakerfritz wanted a pair of Industrial split la scalas w aluminum trim that were on Craigslist near me. The photos looked very nice. He just couldn't work out shipping for a reasonable price. Anyway, the seller was asking $1,000 for those and they stayed for sale for quite a while. I have Belles so wasn't interested myself. Seems there is a wide range a seller might get for these speakers. As a general rule when talking Klipsch speakers, pristine examples in fine wood veneers sell for much more than industrial black finished speakers.
