  2. Well, I decided that I'm going to purchase some klipsch belles for $1800....it's a 14 hour round trip, but from the pics and Skype session I had, the speakers are in great condition... The owner said he thinks they are from 1971...this will be my first pair of fully loaded horn speakers....I've only had Cornwall 3s, heresy 3s, and fortes, so I'm really excited! I think I'm going to upgrade the crossovers first because the speakers are so old....I have a Hsu vtf-15h subwoofer to pair with them....I really hope that the bass from the subwoofer is tight enough to keep up with the belles

  3. Mornin' guys. The subject of old Coke machines reminds me of the the cable show American Restoration. They do that sort of thing but very high dollar. Think they are based in Vegas. Definitely seems to be a market for that stuff. I always think about my grocery work days in my late teens filling the pop machines. Glass bottles no less. Colorado is doing its typical spring weather thing ... back to snow for a few days. Shirt sleeves yesterday. Oh well, we need the moisture. Later ............

  7. Mike, The first link kind of freaks me. In 1970 Bob Moers and wife VG-VeeGee(sp?) would travel to Fayetteville to party with my wife and I. We were still in school and they a bit older. At that time the UofA ranked Playboy's number one party school in the country. Fayettetnam as we called it was very different from Hope. smile My best friend and audio mentor Cedric introduced us to the Moers and we hit it off. That introduction provided my wife and I, a couple of poor college kids, some outrageous audio for the times. The day of Quad so we ran two Khorns flank, two LaS center and two LaS rear. Amps that were sent free to PWK for evaluation we had for a song. Sorry for the trip down memory lane. Perhaps I should have PM'd. But in the Klipsch logs that I have read I have never seen mention of a Cedric. Just wonder where Bob Moers landed. Perhaps Hunter might have some memory of Cedric. (Kinker-Neal transmission line speakers) I am told that Bill Brewly was close to suicide before finishing the Plex Khorn. tc Sure would have liked seeing you at Hope tc...... maybe next time. By the way you would have loved the KP-600 playing at Rodney's Place... :-)

  9. Built a bit of local credibility with that 'shine. When it was first brought out I was the first it was offered to. Joe said it was 170 proof. I said "Let me see that..." and proceeded to invert it and shake a bead on it. "No more than a 140..." says I. In fact, I don't think it was much past 100...though still quite a bit of raw kick. However, I didn't want to risk offense. Old Joe did look at me with a little more respect. Dave

  11. A little volunteer work for Rescue Connect this morning. Took two young Beagles to the vet for spay and neuter prior to adoption. LF went with me. Came home and made blueberry pancakes with bacon and more coffee.....yum! Cloudy and a bit cool today. Been having a Stoli martini with bleu cheese stuffed olives in the afternoon. Need more vodka. Maybe Carl will share his recipe. Cheers Gents

  13. Welcome to the forum, Mangofirst! This is a great community, and you'll love it here. We had a blast at Rodney's, and look forward to maintaining the relationship. Members got some really good South Arkansas hospitality, and since I'm from El Dorado, I was especially happy about that. See you next time, and look forward to your input here. SSH

  16. Yes, I was there both nights but I got there late both nights as well. The Harmons + Lonnie are a pretty nifty bunch of dudes. I truly enjoyed the company of (almost) everyone I met and may actually now have a bit of a Klipsch addiction...obsession...lets go with passion. Because when you're passionate about something you want to know everything you possibly can about it, right? I needs me a PWK biography. Guess the stories from the people around here will do for now. Talking to my students, I found out one of them's grandmother was allegedly his secretary. There's just so much history and "I've only just begun." Anyway, even though I'm an über n00b, when I figured out who Roy was I immediately told him I wanted to pick his brain. Course, I didn't really know what size pick to use. Kevin: Rodney has been telling that neighbor story all week! We definitely need a motto addendum for that one. Can't wait to show him the blog post mentioning it. BigStew: probably "Blue Bayou"

  18. isn’t it a shame that baldness always matches your height. Dang, i’ve been up too long--my day started at 2:48 this morning and it’s starting to show in my posts. If you read all my other posts, you’d tell me that i must be always tired. Welcome Brie -- What were you singing in your avatar?

  19. Very Pretty, and welcome again! Were you there both nights?? I saw you friended my buddy Kevin Harmons little brother Brandon on Facebook.... Brandon is a great guy and a lot of fun. I was the tall, very bald guy that brought my whole family. I will definitely make it a point to get to know you better here and the next time I make it to Rodnets. Roger

  21. I had No idea who owned the VRDs and should of asked, I just took it for granted that anyone who would tote such nice gear to Hope would be playing it sooner or later and that I would get in on it at that time I also did not know who's or what Pre Amp they hooked up, but there was obviously some sort of problem as it sounded terrible! Lets try to plan out better for next year, and use something other than what was being played??? Roger As much time as we spent BSing and the car ride to Mom's you woulda thunk

  24. Man I missed out! Friends, food, spirits, music, factory, and some of the most photographic scenery I've seen. I am kicking myself for not pulling an all-nighter and coming. Things kinda got normal again about Thursday afternoon since we have been dealing with my wife's dad passing suddenly. The weather was nice, I was looking at the google maps to see how to get there. I saw 14 hours/900 miles, and I chickened out.

  26. I was going to suggest this, I bet Christy can get you their conference room next year, if y'all didn't have it this year. That is about the only place I have ever been able to get any critical listening done at one of those shindigs, other then the lab listening room with limited people. Those Naks are awesome, very smooth, those VRDs are obviously a different topology, and I think you would hear a distinct difference with music you were familar with. What pre were they using with the VRDs?

  30. It's kind of funny, (but not surprising I guess..) that considering everything we've all gone thorough in one way or the other as far as acoustics, toe-in, off the wall, on the wall, etc, etc, etc, that we would consider the conference room for critical listening....I'm not dissing you Roger at all, but I guess given everything else, that it would be about the only place we would even think about doing something like that...Maybe we could move around those lovely plastic flower wreaths to catch a few reflections....

  33. You can't listen to a speaker on the Internet. I would like people to be able to buy speakers the way they used to -- after a few hours of listening, perhaps with a few other customers (or potential customers) present. Everybody could bring their own music discs. Dealer expectation used to be about 50%, I was told by some dealers. One of the great things about Khorns is that they push into corners, and really don't take up as much space as demo speakers that have to well away from the walls, with wires going to them! Back when many stores stocked Khorns, their sound could be a standard to aspire to on the part of people who couldn't affford them. Customers would pick out a speaker that came as close as possible to the clarity and dynamics of the Khorn, then might come back over the years, "trading up" to better and better speakers as they could afford them, ending with purchase of a pair of Khorns. I was one of them. My dealer in those days made a point of having other top-of-the-line speakers (like B&W) to compare to Khorns in the same room. Nowadays, the dealer could "sell up" to the Jubs.

  35. Can't believe nobody has bitten on this. It's one of my favorites. "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart done, as I recall, about 1962. It was inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus (251–183 BC), specifically Pseudolus, Miles Gloriosus and Mostellaria. The musical tells the reasonably bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door. Zero Mostel is a HOOT in it. Personally, I am a big fan of Petronius and his Satyricon is a LOT more full of great sex of all varieties. Highly recommend the Fellini film of that work if reading isn't your thing. Dave have you ever listened to blink-182.....awesome.....

  36. At least with speakers as a whole and in our case Heritage in particular one can at least see the components and craftsmanship involved. Materials, skill sets etc. add up quickly in all manufacturing. A new pair of LSll or KHorns at retail seems dirt cheap when compared to the pricing of esoteric cables (wire). Thousands of $$$ for a three foot IC, tens of thousands for ten feet of speaker cable. In the sometimes absurd world of hifi prices - a new pair of KHorns for me please. I can Hear where my money went.

  40. If you find any cool items that could act as decorations or yard ornaments. Let me know I need something interesting down at the lakes out front of the camper. I am keeping a lot of "weird of no use items" and they will be going to Reno, just really a lot of junk furniture, desks, tarps (rotted), plumbing from the 50s/60s, i am hoping for an old coke machine i remember as a kid, still 60+feet @10' high in places to dig out, god knows what is under this stuff. i just do not wish to get bit by something.

  41. Afternoon gang In the diner for lunch, the cook turns out to be the owner, has invited me to bring the RV up here and just set up in back for the next week.....Hummm Im not hooked up to anything outside the hanger except 220V. Just went outside and looked, this guy has the FULL hook ups including fresh water/sewer/220, ill be dammed. Two mile walk to the airpark, been walking it everyday, most here have GolfCarts. im thinking about it. Cables by the Masses being found in this old hanger, most from 60s era, military, on my second 4yard dumpster. Looks like im going to have a Prop collection, some reason i like these old things, dad must have kept them for a reason. PakRat?

  44. Morning gang Took a walk 3am, noticed the lights on at the mom and pop cafe, banged on the back door and the cook was there prepping for the day, ask him if i could go back to mt RV and fetch my laptop, come back here and drink coffee and surf, he said No problem Been awile since i made coffee in a Bunn machine. They open at 6, however he is making my breakfast now wife is still sleeping. All that is left in Hanger #1 is my plane, fresh annual, fully fueled and ready for the Reno trip, maybe one more day loading the one of the trucks and he is leaving for Reno, two days projected to load second and be done with this airpark after 46 years! Sold the first hanger (big one) back in Dec with a 90 day move out clause, the owner seemed like a nice gent, by the end of Jan he had his lawyer contacting me to get the hell out! dam. hate being rushed. I have a feeling the guy feels a little fleeced/pizzed, appraised at 1.6 sold for 1.2, and im smiling. Im learning any day without Snake contact is a good day. wife is now packing the 44 w/snake shot. Looking forward to my first drink in a over a month,(next week) wife says it will be the good stuff

  47. The VRD's were early, and didn't get much love....except from Mike and I.... And yes, critical listening was sort of.....impossible to a degree with all of the other things going on, which might be a thought for a change for next year...if possible.
