  1. Coming up for air. Worked all weekend on converting AK from vBulletin to XenForo. Still needs tweaking, the re-indexing the search database and helping a few members with login and permissions. It should all work out over the next couple weeks. Glad to see everyone still posting along and keeping the faith. Ya'll have a great day.

  3. Good evening friends........... Read through a couple days postings to catch up on the latest weather, storms, naps and adult beverages ... Anyway, I wanted to report my findings with the Dynaco amp. First off, took all tubes out, checked voltages at the sockets, everything checked out FINE! Brought home my solder station, re-soldered all points on the pre-stage PC board and all points concerning the upgraded bias circuits/components... Turned that amp on, still have one tube red plating ! Started swapping out KT-88s ... It was getting pretty confusing. Swapping out tubes and finding TWO OEM Gold Lion originals (1965) were red plating when paired together!! I took the two Russian Gold Lions (matched quad for the Mark III rebuilding back in 2009) from the left channel amp, plugged into the troublesome right amp and they performed perfectly, the bias voltage was stable etc. This told me that I SURELY had a bad tube NOT amp... Here is where it got strange. After much swapping and trying to keep track why only certain combinations would cause one tube to red plate, then swap out it's neighbor ONLY, and it would NOT red plate! Turns out, the tube that was NOT red plating was BAD and was causing any other tube to red plate when paired with it! This tube also DID NOT have the blue 'glow' on the glass bottle as the others did which seemed to point out more problems with it. SO, I found two OEM original to the amp that worked well together and set the bias and all held nicely. Put in a recording for testing and it all sounded wonderful So, I will run them for now and order up a matched PAIR of new Gold Lions again... Well, that is the update so far, but it is good to have stereo once again... OH, and I ordered room acoustic treatments which I hope will arrive this weekend, should really warm up the sound and hopefully take back some of standing waves in the room so the bass will be more even... Good night my friends......

  5. It was a mishap, not a blowout. No racing stripes were created at THAT particular time. True story. I'll never forget another time my brother and I were working on a small bathroom. We took an early supper and went to a local burger joint for burgers and beer then went back to work in the bathroom. Our GI tracts must be fairly similar as we began outgassing at the same time a fairly rapid and loud pace. We laughed so hard we had to stop working a couple times. Thank god for fart fans.

  10. Hello! Long time lurker. This topic has caused me to create an account and chime in. Firstly, I have much sorrow in my heart for the mass-shootings and deaths that have plagued our country for the last few years. It is clear that something has gone wrong. What is not clear is how we address this problem. I'd like to start off by pointing out first that the Right to self defense is not negotiable. Period. And in this country that Right is afforded to all able bodied Men of age. So any talk to eliminate or curtail that basic human right should be off the table. Seriously, who would argue against self defensive measures? When you are being assaulted what is the first reaction? Defense. Stop/mitigate/limit the damage. We aren't doing any of that. Instead we are bickering and arguing about guns. Which, as I just stated, is this nations chosen and well documented form of self-defense. So they aren't going away. If you want to be productive in this dilemma, provide a logical solution. All else is noise and frankly, a diversion that is keeping us from getting to the point where we can move forward with a solution to our problems. Help, or get out of the way so that we can start saving lives.

  14. In the giant scheme of things, with all of the horrible events going on domestically and internationally, this is just a very miniscule blip on the radar. I get that. I am a member of this forum, and this community, and have been for a number of years. Not nearly as long as some others of course. This place, and the people in it, are important to me, and I have made many friends here, and participated in many superb events through this community. And I certainly hope to continue this long into the future. However, I can not, and will not, tolerate the decidedly blatant offensive and rude statement that is a signature of one specific members every post. "Klipsch Forums, Full of Audiophools". This member has stated that it is intended to be offensive and incendiary, so it is "doing it's job" according to his post. It's an embarrassment, plain and simple. I respectfully ask that this signature be removed.

  15. Cars with fins, phones with dials, drive in movies. My mom took us to a drive in one vacation in eastern Suffolk county, LI. Cinerama. My great aunt (a wonderful person) took me to see Grand Prix in Cinerama in NYC. She left the theater saying she got seasick. This was a high tribute in my book. She also took me to see 2001 and that might have been Cinerama too. The music was very loud. WMcD

  17. "Free" air at all gas stations again would be nice. That way I could at least pretend that I'm sharing the road with cars that are actually as capable on the road as they are on paper. As for now, and certainly by the looks of it while I'm driving (woefully deformed sidewalls and shredded rubber lying all over the place), I have to assume almost everyone around me is driving on flat or nearly flat tires.

  20. Respectfully, your premise is incorrect in that you seem to think government gave us the right to defend ourselves and thus they can take it away. This isn't so. The Right is inherent in every Man to defend himself. Government can no more take it from you than they can demand you cut off your arm. The 2nd Amendment will never go away, as long as our current form of government exists. And that is the key: AS LONG AS OUR CURRENT FORM OF GOVERNMENT EXISTS. The 2nd amendment is part of the fabric of the nation - part of the building block. Remove the block and we are no longer the same nation. If they assume the authority to rob you of your ability to defend yourself then why couldn't they just assume ALL power over you. And really, by extension, wouldn't that be what they are doing? This is what I believe the founders were writing about. They were telling the government that they do not have ultimate authority over us. The assumption is that in order to eliminate the 2nd amendment is would require another amendment. Think that's going to happen? Not likely. But I would argue even then, how can it be that an entity CREATED BY MAN (government) can then have the ultimate authority over man and tell them YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DEFEND YOURSELF? It cannot. It fly's in the face of the very basic maxims of law. Can you contract away your Rights? Hmm. Therein lies a very interesting rabbit hole. Give up/let them take that right, and you might as well invite a dictatorship that controls every facet of your life. In my humble opinion.

  24. I have a slightly different take on this thread. I retired from band directing about a year and a half ago. Spent 30 years teaching fantastic kids and loved (almost) every minute of it! But, one of the hazards of the job is that you become a very critical listener, and it's not something that you can just leave at the office. No matter what music I was listening to, part of my brain was busy hearing the flaws, problems, and how I would make corrections. Without realizing it, I had stopped enjoying music for music's sake and was always thinking technically. About six months into retirement I caught myself listening to a song and just flat out thinking how beautiful it was, warts and all. That put a smile on my face that lasted the rest of the day! Every since then, I've been "enjoying" music more than I have in decades, because for the most part, music is an art, not a science. On the other hand, now I want better speakers!

  25. I would be a good candidate for one of those. When I bought my Onkyo 717 a couple of years ago for use with the TV my wife freaked out over how complicated it was, having to press one button for the TV and (gasp) another button for the AVR, same remote. To this day, if we watch a movie she just hands the remote over to me and I have to load the disc and press all the buttons. It's actually far more traumatic and complicated than that to my wife, but I'll stop here. Let's just say it took her years to adjust to the new two-button arrangement, and she's still not happy about it yet.

  26. Well I am listening? What is the solution? Welcome to the forum! Thank You! I was hoping you would tell me. Well, as I said, we are being assaulted, so let's devise a defense to at least mitigate the damage. I think we could all agree that schools seem to be the favorite target right now. So let's devise a defense to keep our children safe, shall we? I propose immediate defensive measures to include additional police resources. Yes, defend the schools with armed guards. Permanently? Perhaps no. But at least until we can get our footing and identify what our issues are so that we can eventually work towards a workable solution. How do we fund this effort? Well our government spends billions on needless crap every year. I'm sure we can rummage up a few billion to finance this program. Some might see armed guards at our schools as a drastic action. I would like to point out that we guard our courthouses with armed guards and metal detectors. We guard our state legislative buildings with armed guards. We guard our airports. Heck, I've even seen police officers sitting in their cars at road construction sites. Now tell me, are our children any less valuable than these people? My child certainly is not. It's a start. It's not necessarily the final result. And frankly, it's better than what we are doing now.

  28. I hope the hell it is not the input transformer, way back when i had a tube go bad (Short) it then shorted the transformer that then went high voltage, determind this by checking the output voltage from the other channel with leads disconnected.

  29. Afternoon all.....no effect from the storm here....just busy busy weekend Friday was Homecoming Game and daughter as (reluctantly) on Homecoming Court....so went to the Parade and Game....we got the much needed divisional win. Saturday was spent starting to clean out the new digs......man....75 years of collecting stuff.....lots of trips to the dump ahead. took over 1000 pounds of stuff this weekend. Ever heard the phrase "Don't know sh*t from Shinola".....well apparently Shinola was Shoe Polish......they went out of business in the late 50's.....found like four bottles of the stuff in a kitchen drawer. Pulling up some of the carpeting....floors are toast...and too many gaps to use as permanent flooring. Dad came by and we assessed the situation. He called his buddy at the sawmill and he told us that he'd cut us a deal since dad uses him so much.....1x6x8 heart pine rough cut for $1/board....well then run those through dad's planer and sander before install.....dad thinks we can do it all in a weekend. Kitchen cabinets are actually in great shape...just need to be cleaned, sanded and painted....new countertops are needed.....deciding between butcherblock or concrete Have a buddy going by one day this week to bushhog the field and till my wife up a 20x30 plot for her garden.....she's itching to go ahead and plant mustards, collards, kale and swiss char Have a few out buildings that need to be torn down and either burned or hauled to dump. Gonna be a hard few weeks....hope to be in by Thanksgiving......once real demo starts I'll start posting pics of progress.

  38. Hi El Guapo. Welcome to the forums! I've owned two pair of RF-5's over the years. They are great speakers, just not as large sounding or as much bass as the RF-7's. You will want to find a matching RC-7 center channel as it is an incredible and very capable center. Are they worth $600? Absolutely. Are they at the very top end of the market? Probably so. Can you find them for much less? Absolutely. Here is a pair for $350 - Link Another for $600 - Link RF-5 and RC-7 for $500 - Link They will have no problem filling a 15' x 20' room with great sound. Newer = More Expensive. With a $600/pair budget, you won't be able to come close to the perfomance of the RF-5.

  41. Dave, please verify the link for donations. Let me know if we need a Paypal account. I would be happy to accept the donations if necessary. Thank you for posting this for me. Everyone referred to Rodney's mother as Ninny. She was in fact a remarkable, loving, wonderful woman. She and several friends of hers prepared all the wonderful desserts for our forum gathering this past April. She had been ill for quite some time, but her death was rather untimely. We would genuinely appreciate any all donations as soon as we can figure out the Paypal account information. Rodney has received approval and proper permits to establish a cemetery on his 610 acre farm. Elden and I had made a sign for the entrance way to the cemetery and presented it to Rodney and his mother on one of our previous visits. She will be buried on the family farm. Again, we appreciate all donations, will get appropriate Paypal info posted and as always, your funds will be used in a manner suited for the occasion. Thank you all. Christy

This is why we get in trouble with our better halves, we let our eyes dominate our thoughts for the first 6 months and then our ears are ringing for the next 30 years By the way, I did not say that and will deny, deny, deny. In today's political climate, surely I can get away with that? Problem is you wrote it on the internet, and we know everything that is written on the Internet happened.
