  2. I was given non-working 42" Samsung flatscreen yesterday. I spent an hour this morning pulling the power supply board and replacing some bad caps. Works like a champ now. It had been professionally calibrated. The picture is awesome. I love freebies.

  10. Good morning once again..... Ceptor, we are still formulating a little trip today..... Looks like a lighthouse will be visited.... (0; Duder, thanks for the compliment, you paint a nice picture as well........many a snowmobile trip to Vermont and New Hamphire over the years fits your description ... Ok, just a couple of photos.........now, for what ever reason, the fall color is not in full here, while at home it is spectacular right now... Anyway, here is the sign out front with various fall colors..., and another of some large pumpkins , ....and for staying with the forum theme, a nice dark roast in the correct mug....., all for the moment, more later on. Enjoy your Saturday everyone.... .......Gary

  12. Good Saturday morning everyone from Maine..... A cool morning, but will head to the old farmhouse which is connected to the barn for a home made breakfast... Our hosts and owners are right in the kitchen themselves putting it all together for the guests... I'll get some photos with the iPad for you and send along before we head out for a little trip to the ocean, most likely to visit one of the many lighthouses in these Atlantic parts ... More after some coffee and such... ......Gary

  17. Morning gang, currently 42 with a high of 72 perfect fall like weather here. Chuck, glad everything came out ok with the colonoscopy. Gary, you all ways have a way to set some wonderful scenes. I would love to visit the New England, east coast someday during this time of the year. I don't mind snow from Thanksgiving through January 2nd, then it could go away. I have always thought it would be cozy on the country side in a cabin with a roaring fire and a nice stereo system. This morning would have been a great chilly morning to wrap up in the blankets and lay around in bed with some good tunes playing. But I have things to get done, so I must run, all take care.

  18. Good evening everyone....... We are back from a long day of travel further up north to pursue a lighthouse. Ended up at Pemaquid Point... Just found they have a webcam!, if I knew that, I could have had you all tune in and I would give you all a wave hello ... Anyway, got some great photos from down on the rocks, with gulls, smallish waves splashing about and an infinite view of the sea! Had my DSLR also, took many photos of the distant RAIN falling out over the ocean. Also, a wedding had taken place and the bride and groom, along with a small wedding party came out from a door at the bottom of the lighthouse! You can tour this thing right up inside where the working lamp is!, and I saw them all walking around the multi-faceted lens. Chris and I had been up there a few years ago... Last year, we stopped at another lighthouse complete with ELECTRONIC FOG HORNS. I took a movie of that, also the de-commissioned original air horns and compressor room with hearing protection warnings everywhere.....fun stuff OH, and there was a wedding going on there too! Guess it is popular along the coast to have weddings in lighthouses.... Ok, my iPad is charging right now, and I will try to get some photos from the sea coast etc. ...stand by... ......Gary PS. Great Luther on reviving the flat screen... My co-worker tossed out a fairly new 50" Vizio because it went black, no LED power, no nothing! They had a powersurge during a storm, so you can probably figure out what may have happened.. Bought a Samsung to replace it, no problems with it yet...

  19. Yesterday LOL - kidding of course. Going to try to have this project wrapped up by the end of next weekend. Very simply going to get everything working 1st. Remove all hardware and sand the cabinets down, replace both bottom trap doors. Repaint the mid horns. After everything is back together and fully functional, these will be an affordable entrance for someone who wants to delve into Vintage Heritage. How far they want to take them after that is there choice. An affordable La Scala for someone is my goal. Pass it along the best I can...

  20. I have a pair of AB x overs you can use to test out your new find. They are not highly sought after and are designed for Belles but would work just fine for what your after at this point. They were fully functional nine months ago when I upgraded. Let me know, I'll send em to ya.

  21. The RC 62 is a good center soudbar, lol. SuperDave you may be like me, I prefer 6 in. drivers for the center and don't really care for larger drivers. The 6 in. Klipsch diver is very well suited to the male and female voice. This is my guess why the RF 63 is so well recieved and liked. With a couple of 6 in. woofers, the speaker is not bass shy but, it is not bass heavy.

  22. Thanks for the help -- several years ago -- in refurbishing my original Fortes. They sound fabulous with the Crites mods (slightly modded by me.) Wandered around in audio speaker wasteland a bit. Probably bought and sold 20 different brands/models. Fell into the JBL blackhole -- you have to experience it to understand it. But, it's been fun. Been looking at the new Klipsch designs. They look super and apparently sound the same. Then I made the fatal error: Entered 'Klipsch speaker' as search on BadBay. I'm old and have an affection for old designs -- warts and all. So, I purchased these bad boys, as the price seemed hard to pass on: http://www.ebay.com/itm/391274033448?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT I guess the free shipping put me over the edge. Plus, one speaker in particular was telling me she wanted to live in Texas. Did I do well? Pay too much? It was an impulse buy for sure -- but, I have not had one 'second thought' about the purchase. (As sometimes happens -- maybe just to me.) Blast away, pards. Greg Should I have gone for the P-series? 'Bout the same money, I suppose.

  28. Good early evening everyone...... We are in beautiful Ogunquit Maine, staying at our favorite place.... One of 5 suites in a converted horse barn ... Just stopped into town at our usual wine and cheese shop, brought back a fine local blueberry wine which is excellent! Three exotic cheeses also came back and enjoying one which is excellent with this fruit forward juice ... Ceptor, that is an interesting story about your visit to Vermont. I actually have on a couple occasions took off on my iron horse to take fall photos! Very nice times.. HA, our motorcycle riders club is having their annual pig roast tomorrow!, it is the first time in 6 years that I have not been able to go, as our Maine trip was already planned a year ago, but we DID make our dill, olive oil potato salad which is requested for both major events we put on... MPK, great on your visit to Bar Harbor, we have many pipe organ accounts in ME. Usually, two of us take off and stay up here for a full work week to get as many organs tuned as possible... I believe I am up next to go, as we switch off with different co-workers.. Luther, I hope you had a nice M.A.D. of your own spinning vinyl with friends Ok, we have dinner reservations for tonight and tomorrow night, doing a package deal with our Inn keepers which they offer... I will check in with some photos from this AMAZING - motorized haunted display they do each year across the street, it is different each year, and was running when we arrived, and all gets illuminated after dark... More in a bit... .......Gary

  29. The wife's grandparents lived in a retirement community there, it was a nice place had some good fried chicken while I was there, along with some Salt BBQ. I someday hope to plan a weekend trip just for that. I guess I could plan another week long trip for all sorts of fun things in Texas.

  41. Let me add again to all that has been said. If you lived in the US and you had access to the many many many outboard amps available on the used market for IMO, very little $$$, then I would definitely say go that route and try out a preamp/amp combo. Since you are not afforded that luxury the way most of us are, then a flagship AVR would be the place to start. Add an amp later if you choose. Bill

  42. If you don't mind Nismo, can you explain what you have? I cut and pasted from your signature quote, the 5.2.2 setup: So you've got RF-7's, and surrounds. Four upward firing Atmos modules which you describe as Front and Rear heights. I get the front two RP-140SA are on the towers, how are the back two mounted, on stands? I think I get it now that I've typed it out, but technically the front height is another kind of speaker setup, (as in height or wides). Is the description of the front heights now an obsolete term, or is there another term for Atmos front heights? I had the same terminology confusion when Scrappydue mentioned "ceiling" speakers. He was using that term to describe the Atmos sound bouncing off the ceiling, which is different from ceiling speakers mounted in the ceiling. I just want to make sure I'm using the right terminology. I have 5.2.4 with a pair of RP-140SA's on top of my RF-7's. And a pair of RP-140SA's on top of my RS-7's. My RS-7's are on stands with corner placement. They are on an angle, so the 140's can be placed on them accordingly. If my RS-7's were mounted flush to either the back or side wall... I could not place the 140's on them. ================ Good question with the "front height or rear height" designation in my signature. I chose that description to indicate the 140SA's were were sending audio to the "height plane" above. Plus, when making the physical speaker connection to the AVR... you connect the speaker to either the "Height 1" or "Height 2" terminal. I can see where the descriptive terminology can get confusing. The generic term for the RP-140SA would be an up-firing speaker, whether integrated within a tower or an separate add-on module. With an Atmos configuration, Klipsch calls the RP-140SA (add-on modules): Elevation Speakers. Denon designates them: Front Dolby, Rear Dolby or Surround Dolby (depending on placement). Marantz calls them: Front Dolby Enabled, Rear Dolby Enabled, or Surround Dolby Enabled (depending on placement). Onkyo calls them: Dolby Enabled Speaker (Front, Back or Surround). Dolby calls them either up-firing speakers or DAES (Dolby Atmos Enabled Speakers). ================ I might change my signature reference, so that the up-firing RP-140SA's are not confused with a traditional (vertical wall mount) height.

  43. Same here. The ends were dyed red like they were lit and when you pulled one out of the pack a whole row came out. You just broke one off of the row. I also liked the banana flavored cigar gum as well. Neither of them led to my smoking nor did a smoking father and brothers. me neither...but, that beef jerky bong may have been an influence.
