  1. Way more good than bad here. Fortunately, I have found that the mean ones are just passing through. If I took it all to heart, I would be a heartbroken man. In the balance, those who do good outweigh anything I have seen thrown at members here. Good fortune to you all.

  3. Looks like I'm going to have to get mine rebuilt Your Carver? MKP :-) Yep. I bought the amp and pre new in the early 80's so I really can't complain. The on off switch an the amp went out years ago. I wired around it to be always on and plugged it into the preamps switched outlet so when the pre turns on, that amp comes on. No problem there. The issue is when I turn everything on now, it won't power up for 15 or 20 seconds and then you hear this weird electronic swooshing noise. It'll play but sounds a little dull. I'll have all the caps replaced in both units. I went to the Carver site and looked for authorized repair centers (10 or so in the US) and as luck would have it, there's one 7 miles from my daughters house in Houston. Next time we go to see her I'll drop them off. No worries about shipping damage that way.

  9. Where ya at guys? Just a quick check-in. Have a post-op doc appointment in a bit. Huge Super Bowl party/reception/parade downtown yesterday. Checkout the Denver Post online. Wish I could have gone but just not ready yet. Supervised the kid putting a new floor in our laundry room. Slower than molasses and, yes, he charged by the hour. Will try to check back later. Happy Wednesday.

  10. Nothing wrong with buying a new set of Heresy speakers. My first Klipsch system was just that and always put a smile on my face! If you end up needing to beef up the low end you simply add a well chosen sub down the road. I say go for it Klipsch deserves the new customer...the current version Heresy is the best they ever produced..

  11. Tool Shed Audio, Not sure if Matthew got a chance to relay the comments I made to him via private messaging but since I have been posting around here again recently I figured I would chime in. I have to say the amplifier and preamplifier you built for Mathew are just gorgeous! Awesome work...I'd love to bend your ear on the process for the engraving your doing to your flat work wonderful stuff! I'd also commend you on how you handled that moron that kept doing is best to tear down your good work! Keep those bottle burning! Craig

  16. Hi Craig, Thank you for the kind words. Matthews did pass along your flattering comments. Obviously there are many paths to "sonic bliss" as evidenced by the P-P Mono's you build as well as the work Maynard has offered here on the forum. You know as well as I that it is easy to provide commentary (criticism) behind the relative safety of a keyboard. It is far more difficult to please a paying customer. So, nuff' said about ticks and leeches. I'm a "glass half-full" kind of guy. Regarding "bending my ear", shoot me an email: toolshedamps@gmail.com I'd be happy to give you a little insight into how I do what I do (etching). Cheers! TS Matt.

  17. This is a gamble, but I see potential in this front 3. Two of them are Oiled Oak less the oil and plus some dirt, and the other is birch raw. Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Klipsch-speakers-Three-vintage-three-way-Heresy-Klipsch-speakers-Model-H00-/131718664319?&_trksid=p2056016.l4276 It will be interesting to watch the bidding on these. Only 12 hours left and no bites yet... It's 9AM right now.

  19. ALS comes in a few varieties and it is one of the motor neuron diseases and in and of itself, it is not lethal like a cancer for example. Certainly a challenge but one of proper - if complex care. As long as the man is mechanically supported and otherwise sustained he will live......... he may live longer since he is not wearing out pathways through normal usage. I would draw a comparison to Christopher Reeves (AKA Superman). He suffered from traumatic quadriplegia but was in a similar boat. He had funds and access to the best care possible, but he made poor choices. Reeves died young because of improper care and poor care planning. Having dealt with innumerable such cases I am very impressed with Hawkings fortitude and his health team. Hopefully science will soon discover a cure for this ailment.

  20. I think you touched on something there. Maybe we have forgotten what it's like to be a whopping 24 years old. Cam is still very young. He and the Panthers had a hell of a year going 14-2. That was best in the NFL. Won the MVP. All that and 24 years old. He'll get better at press conferences. He might even get better at football.

  21. This used to be my favorite place to hang out on the net. But recently it seems to be full of "new comers" that want advice and then don't take it or they all of the sudden know more than everyone else on here and then dickheads like etc who send responses like this when all I did was tell Him how long mine took to sell at a certain price point. Sick of people being jerks for no damn reason on this forum. Here was the response: I would never post them for that. It's an internet direct product that sells for $3600 for two ultras. I'm not going to lose a $1000 on something I purchased less than a year ago. Also, you do realize SVS changed the design of the amp and raised prices? A single PB13-ultra is $1999 right now. There are other used units, but they don't have 4 years of warranty and do not have the nicer amp. Besides to price it right off the bat at $1300 would be a bone head move. Maybe if they haven't sold in a year I'd do that. The truth is prices are always determined by supply and demand (in a free market), they will eventually sell for more than $1300 as there are no other newer ultras for sale right now and I'm not going to price them for that. These are awesome subs at $2950 for the pair. Anyone looking in my area with the cash would buy them. Just have to wait for someone who is looking. Thanks for your unwanted advice though.

  23. Many people are sensitive about garage sale items. My advise to everyone is not to give advice unless solicited. Good intentions sometimes are not seen as such.

  24. That doesn't make the forum a bad place....we have to realize that not everyone is going to agree with the opinions that we share. I have talked with MANY of my friends that say they are always broke. I share with them how to get out of debt and what do they do? They go buy a new car. Am I offended? Nope. It's their life, it's their decision. It doesn't hinder me from wanting to offer the same advice to someone else who asks.

  25. Honestly Scrappy, I'm not sure why you are upset with the guy's response. He wasn't rude, didn't use vulgarity. Of course he is going to try and get as much for them as he possibly can so that he doesn't lose out on too much money. Please refrain from name calling. It surely doesn't make the forum a better place.

  27. Once upon a time I worked for an owner that thought it would be a great idea to offer his customers a low priced import and there was this new company called Yugo that would fit the bill. I could fill pages with stories about these cars but your comment made me think of several customers that would pull up on the service drive, honk their horns and stare at us till we waited on them. They would have broken interior door handles and window cranks and couldn't get out. They were made of the cheapest plastic I've ever seen.

  35. http://marantzhallo-fi.blogspot.com/2016/02/harman-kardon-430-dual-power-receiver.html Notorious for being an excellent match with Klipsch speakers...often described as 'tube-like' sound. Very clean, fully functional, fully restored vintage receiver. Bought this a few years ago for $200.00. Recent restoration was $400.00. Asking price is $600.00 plus shipping. Pics coming right up. Thanks, -Scott

  40. I've found out the hard way that "Unsoliticed Advice Is Rarely Welcomed". Here is my unsolicited advice.....if you have a problem with ETC's response, discuss it with him via PM. No need to air your frustration with him and begin name calling here. It won't accomplish anything. Just wanting to keep things civil.

  41. To many good people have left this forum over non-issues. Let's all get some tougher skin and let some things slide. Everyone's input is valuable and respected. New or old member, dose not matter, we can learn from everybody. Sometimes the dumbest question brings the most discussion and knowledge.

  42. I like sherbourn, but not on the same level as Parasound to my ears. If hdmi is not required you have many great choices. I had a BK ref50, nice , I have seen them as low as $250 for good condition. The NAD mentioned would be very nice. For $500 you could find many great choices but....I would reconsider the hdmi thing, are you sure it's not needed? Its gives lots of options......

  44. Yep, these have been my thoughts too. That's why I waited, that and to make sure my wiring is where it needs to be. There is concrete/block on the other side of the studs so they are still within a 1' of a corner and have great solid bass. Like unreal horn loaded solid bass. These bins are so cool, nothing like the belle. Don't laugh but I was looking at decommissioned parachutes on ebay, thought that might make a cool fabric stapled to the studs. I think it sounds terrific, I almost don't want to sheet-rock then just cover it again with absorbing material. I hate the window, a mistake by my builder who didn't think I would mind. I do have a 120" motorized screen on the way and I would like to build one of those multi-unity horns to set on the ground for a center. I love these things, they really are a whole different level, 5.1 movies and concerts must be phenomenal.
