  1. Evening gang... Just checking in.... Had to move some stuff up to mom's house this afternoon. More kid toys and stuff my my daughter. Our house is almost 100% kid stuff free. More room for speakers and audio gear I had to go in the shop this afternoon to do a brake job. I will usually never go in on a Sunday and work. But the parts manager from the local parts store called last night with an emergency. His daughter was telling him her car is making a funny noise when she put her foot on the brake. He goes and checks it out and tells her it is unsafe to drive. So he called me up to see if I could help him or he would have to take it to "chain" stores today. Let me tell ya this guy sets up all the pricing for all the auto shops around town..... He treats me really good at my shop, he will meet or beat some of the prices I get at this other parts warehouse that's not open to the public. So yea I'll hook my man up for sure He met me at my house this morning and helped me move the stuff up to mom's house.... then me and him rolled to the shop..... left The BOSS with her mom so she could get stuff together.. Other than that.... just been playing with my new Carver 4.0t amp.... pumping the watts to some Chorus I's .... man that thing is a power house ....has really great sound... vry happy with it.. OK gang.... check in later... MKP :-)

  2. Hey folks ...back again after an extended absence. Had some medical stuff (kidneys) to take care of and may have some more. BUT ...no excuses. Been negligent in staying in touch. Thank you again - so very much - to Tarheel (Chuck) and MKP (Mark) for getting in touch and expressing concern. I owe ya. Feeling pretty chipper these days and even cranking up the 'ol B-3 again. Good to be back!! Chuck

  3. Good Sunday evening everyone. Thanks so much for your very nice comments on the Diamond writeup!, we just got word that things will be starting in MY state and in a venue somewhere in Boston. OR, Hartford CT. The date is July 2. I will keep you all informed on it just for your own info. MPK, sounds like more of your good natured way of keeping important people pleased with your work and offerings .. Much car talk happening lately..........here is one for you all.........What does logic say if you put a 1996 BMW 540i and the same year Taurus SHO on a slalom course, which would come out the winner? hmmmmmm..... I leave you with that to 'chew' on..... More tomorrow Good night my friends ................Gary

  6. Just read a story about him the other day, I was surprised to read he was only a star for 4 years, quite the reputation for only a few years, he was also a paratrooper for a short while, who would have thought. Born in Seattle, Washington, Hendrix began playing guitar at the age of 15. In 1961, he enlisted in the US Army and trained as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division; he was granted an honorable discharge the following year. Soon afterward, he moved to Clarksville, Tennessee, and began playing gigs on the chitlin' circuit, earning a place in the Isley Brothers' backing band and later with Little Richard, with whom he continued to work through mid-1965. He then played withCurtis Knight and the Squires before moving to England in late 1966 after being discovered by Linda Keith, who in turn interested bassist Chas Chandler of the Animals in becoming his first manager. Within months, Hendrix had earned three UK top ten hits with the Jimi Hendrix Experience: "Hey Joe", "Purple Haze", and "The Wind Cries Mary". He achieved fame in the US after his performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and in 1968 his third and final studio album,Electric Ladyland, reached number one in the US; it was Hendrix's most commercially successful release and his first and only number one album. The world's highest-paid performer, he headlined the Woodstock Festival in 1969 and the Isle of Wight Festival in 1970 before his accidental death from barbiturate-relatedasphyxia on September 18, 1970, at the age of 27.

  9. ... After I sold it, I purchased a 97 Miata with the intention of replacing the 4 banger with another 3.5 aluminum V-8. The Miata was so damn dependable, I never had the heart to do the engine swap. ... A Miata handles like it's on rails. I test drove a Mazdaspeed5. Those cars seem well balanced with the little actual experience I have had in them. Blown, I bet they destroy the competition. Dad had an MR2 a while back that I took care of for him. It reminded me of the Miata a lot, but with a behind the driver mid-engine rather than a front mid-engine like the Miata, you couldn't get the rear to disconnect in turns. For that, of all the cars I've owned, the 2002 BMW M3 wins with it's torquey straight six. I currently have an S2000 which is a front mid-engine car, and it has good power, but what I like about it is the handling. Such a well balanced car for autocross type racing. One of the fastest and best handling cars I ever seen was a POS looking highly modified Porsche 914. It was like a go cart with 500 HP on race slicks.

  17. I have to say it was the talk of complexity that kept me from trying active crossovers for a long time (and cost as well). I picked up an older Ashly unit a couple of months ago for a decent price and had it up and running within an hour or two. It is not complex, nor is it very expensive relative to decent passive crossovers (Crites). The improvement in sound with big horns is not subtle either. I wish I had had the guts to do it sooner, I have spent a lot of coin on passives over the last several years.

  19. The motor in the car in my avatar was a 3.5 liter Buick aluminum V-8 out of a 63 Skylark. With a Carter AFB, Crower cam and tube headers, it put over 200 hp through a T-5 and 3.90:1 lsd rear end. At 1,800 lbs, it was very quick. After I sold it, I purchased a 97 Miata with the intention of replacing the 4 banger with another 3.5 aluminum V-8. The Miata was so damn dependable, I never had the heart to do the engine swap. The low rpm torque of the V-8 was great at stoplights. Nonetheless, were I to do another such Lotus/Caterham type car, I would do a smaller higher revving 4 cyl variant.

  25. With the doorways on either side pretty much where the bass reflects, I am not surprised you are not getting the amount of sound on the low end that you expected. I would imagine the bass down that hallway is pretty impressive. The good news is that when you finish your basement, you will get to hear an upgrade without any costs (except for the new room itself). Great first assessment. I always like to hear about the "first impressions". What was the first song you played?

  26. Trying to wake up and get going this morning. Talking about engines: Judy's 2015 Mustang EcoBoost with the 4 cylinder engine with turbo is an amazing car. 320 HP at the wheels and as fast as she wants to go. I originally had got her a 2010 370Z Nismo with rear mounted turbo. That car was set up for the track. She hated the 4 point harness and the loudness of the exhaust, but boy did that thing go and handle! It had a little over 500 hp at the wheels and was blazingly fast in the power band. Got to get ready for the big water show in Hot Springs today thru Wednesday, so not much we be posted from this old guy. I always hate to leave the kids alone (dogs), but we have a great dogsitter. They can get in lots of trouble on their own, so we always worry what things will look like when we return. The shop is coming along great. I just can't decide how to lay out the music system. Currently have Epic CF-2 out there, but thinking of hanging the big Altec 9842d on the walls. May put two systems in since I have an office and tech room in part of the building. If so, the JBL 4411 will be in the office.

  28. I will leave the column speakers bare I think. As all my other speakers are naked. I love the copper and cherry combo. I set the room design/color to mirror the colors of the copper and cherry. I do not have an Atmos processor yet. I currently use a garbage pioneer $250 AVR that can't really even do room correction. It just sets distances, that's it! By the time I'm done and ready to hook it all up- I hope Atmos is a little more commonplace. Right now I'm thinking Marantz processor with Emotiva Amps. And an Oppo BDP.

  31. Forced medication saves the herds, while a few individuals are adversely-affected. That's the underlying rationale. Some people are good with that. Others are not. This is not much different than the concept of democracy (majority rules), coupled with something like the Bill of Rights. Some people think the herd is more important than the individual in these types of scenarios. Others think the individual is the most important. It is good to have strong advocates on both sides. For best results, somebody has to be involved and vigilant.

  34. I have personally heard a single point driver horn speaker set up. They were about six feet tall and the response went way below 65hz. I would have bought them if I had the means and space, because they sounded fantastic.

  35. I wonder what people think of back loaded cabinets with single full range drivers. That seems pretty simple and pretty brilliant to me. Other than lack of bass below about 65Hz, I don't really see any disadvantages. Adding a sub would make one a 2 way capable of 20Hz to 20Khz. What are the considerations of this kind of setup, and forgoing the networks all together except the sub passes. Here's a little article on the back loaded project. http://diyaudioprojects.com/Speakers/Fostex-FE206En-Back-Loaded-Horn-Speakers/

  39. JTR just posted this new sub, the Cap 4000 ULF. Basically a double Cap 1400 in the same box tuned to 10 Hz. An HS filter can be used to set the tune to 10 Hz and aggressive DSP to bring the level back up. The Speakerpower amp is perfect for something like this. Jeff is bringing this sub to our GTG next month. I waitto see how this compares to the Stone Hammer sub. The Stone Hammer is an SI HT 18,...........20 cu ft. vented box. Four subs total in an array behind the AT screen. These subs had my pants legs flapping 20 ft. from the movie screen.

  40. Most likely a Chevy small block crate motor. Northstar engines were very popular for a while, also. Fiero tranny. Google V-8 Archie for some details. I did a front wheel drive engine into an MGB. Pretty easy except that the water pump had to be electric and remote mounted. S-10 bell housing and clutch mated to a T-5 tranny. The standard MGB rear end was plenty strong enough, but the gearing needed to be reduced to make 1st gear usable. You can put any motor in anything if you have the time, money and patience. 3.1, 3.8, 4.3 small block will fit easily, bigger motors will fit but throw too much weight over the rear wheels. Fiero's used Chevette parts for front brakes among other things if i recall, go juice is nice but you want to be able to stop as well. Maybe better than 4 wheel drums with no power assist but not by far, don't cheap out and do it half assed because those Fiero body structures were no stronger than old beer cans. GM had sorted out all the problems on the suspension in the '88 model, but this is an '86. The suspension is the first priority over the engine type. It has to handle power, or it is not worth it. I thought of keeping the original engine and going with a turbo, that option is still not out, but a little harder to do than the V-8 swap. The 60 degree engines are easier to fit! My choice would be the 3.8, it probably has more performance parts as it was used in the Buick Grand National with a standard turbo, its lighter weight than the V-8 so it will still corner well without huge modifications. I have been out of racing for some time but i recall some minor engine tweaks the much heavier Buick could easily run 10 second quarter miles.

We do have a waiting list to join CC&C There's guys and girls out there with empty coffee mugs staring at their computer screen just drooling to join us Heck....we even have the occasional toaster give away We are also thinking about awarding one CC&C member the title "poster of the week". That title.....sort of bland...may be changed if we come up with something better. Maybe Grand Poobah or from Cheers "Big Shooter". You guys think about a name. Maybe Carl can get Chad to pitch in some demo Palladiums for the person selected. Heading out with LF to sign closing documents on the house and then the work begins...... Cheers Ladies and Gents

  46. Evening gang.... MKP is still in da house Just taking care of all the crapp that needs to be taken care of.... I also have not heard from BigStewMan or Joe, sent them pm's some time ago and I hope all is well with those guys. I did hear from Mark last week and I think your right Chuck I don't think he will be back. I unfortunately did not Know Zako.... But my he RIP.... I've been meaning to give Chuck a call..... but it's back to stuffing that 10lbs of shitt into a 5lb bag.... there's just never enough time to do it all.... I've been waiting for the audio shop to call me about my gear that's still there... I picked up my Pioneer Elite CD player a few weeks back and that's all good. When I picked up my Pioneer I dropped of a Carver TFM-55 that's broke and I also gave them two Sony ES Cd players for parts. They still have my Sony ES 801...... The ES 801 was "OK"ed to be fixed a few weeks back..... then they called and said the one part is no longer available I've had these two "back-up" players just for a situation just like this... I hope it works out. I got a feeling that this is going to dig in my pocket..... Well the Pilot is running great.... The BOSS loves it and when she's happy I'm happy... I picked up the grandkids in it this morning... when they saw it they said it looks like my BIG CRV.... My CRV is silver and the Pilot is silver. OK gang wishing all a good night..... MKP :-)
