  3. Just checking in gang. Looks like a nice day in the 80's. Have to put a weather resistant finish on a raised planter I stained yesterday and cut grass. And that's as exciting as my world gets today. Happy Friday and cheers to all.

  4. I get more of those than you could imagine. Lady comes in with transmission issues. We sell her a valve body and send her on her way. 10,000 miles later transmission issue again. She says we didn't fix it right the first time. We check the vehicle, it's low on fluid due to a split in the cooler by the radiator. Fluid was all over the underside of the vehicle and it was fresh. We sell her a cooler and send her on her way. 10,000 miles later, transmission issues. The wheel speed sensor we tried to sell her last visit (and documented on her receipt) for an ABS light finally quit working all together. Trans doesn't know when to shift. She says we're bugging her car to break down every 10,000 miles. Vehicle has 150k miles. After we fix the speed sensor and give it back to her, she says we broke a pressure sensor in one of her tires. I explained to her that we didn't dismount her tire or even take the tire off the vehicle and it was on the opposite end of the car we were working on. I then said if she'd buy the sensor, we'd put it on and program it for her at no charge. She basically said we were POS's and left in a huff.

  5. Lol, Good morning! Replaced master switch on Nan's Volvo a year ago. Problem already! Those things like to corrode up in fairly short order, what with the rain that gets on them sometime from just getting in and out of car. Still have a couple of more things to get right on car but, it is really starting to melt here. Pop-Up T-storms more frequently say to me, just stay inside, lol! Chill! Time to run some more vinegar through Mr Coffee...

  7. TGIF - A week of high stress and mentally draining tasks to save customers and salesmen, who all waited too late to order product but had to have it like yesterday. I need a way-back machine. Anyway, just 8 hours to live through and then some pool time, then some drinks and crank up the stereo. My wife is out of town, so I'm a bachelor for two days. "lock & load, smoke'm if you got em" let's get ready to rumble...

  9. Beautiful Friday morning to all. It's a stunner in Southeast Michigan. Enjoying my first cup of Cadillac 100% Colombian from the Bunn A10. Starting to get the hang of that thing. Hard to see how it makes such a good cup so quickly. Seems like the grounds barely have a chance to get wet. How do it know? Which reminds me of Sancho's Friday punchline thread. Wonder how he is.

He is thinking 3 guys for 1 and 1/2 or two days Bathroom floor demo is suppose to restart Saturday. This guy that lays tile all day and does crossfit at night says he can break it up with a sledge hammer and haul it away for $1120 I was thinking $750-$800. 13. Greetings! Been lurking on the page for some time. Finally posting to share my Heresy restoration. Picked up a pair of 1978's for $200 but they were pretty rough but the sound! WOW!!! SO impressed by these I started doing homework on re-veneering them. Re-did them in red birch and used Watco Danish Oil Red Cherry to finish them. I wanted something little different so I ran the grain vertically in the front and front to back on the top. Bob Crites re-cap and risers (same veneer). The came out better than expected considering 1) I never did it before and 2) They were ROUGH. A couple corners were trashed. One tweeter had been replaced with a second generation. Not sure what I will eventually do about that. Anyway... I took a LOT of pics along the way. Photobucket link below. Be glad to answer any questions... I have a few to ask myself! LOL My goal is to pick up some La Scala's at some point. I'm in Alabama. If anyone hears of any, please let me know. Perhaps some trading could be involved as well. I have a few systems. 20. If you haven't guessed by now, I was the man with the instrument cases. The white van is used in my business. I was unpleasantly surprised that I was able to leave those two cases in a school without anyone questioning the contents. You could hide a lot of danger in those cases. Heck, you could put explosives inside the instruments, which argues for more than a cursory inspection by at least only opening the cases to verify that they contained instruments, which did not happen. As a parent of two sons who went through that school, should I report this to someone? I would hate to get the guard or woman in trouble, as they were very cordial, but USNRET is correct. I'm a stranger to those people. They don't know me from Adam. They should have verified the contents of those pressure cookers . . . I mean instrument cases.

  26. Indeed the Shure V15 III is a tremendous cartridge and was the high point in MM design (imo), if it sounds muffled and you are using the original stylus it might well be that the rubber mount has given up and died, the good news is you can find a replacement from a well known US seller for £15 that is so good I can't tell the difference between new and old.

  27. Since there doesn't seem to be a lot on the internet about the Klipsch KG 5.2, why not a thread? I'd mentioned in passing to a client that I prefer Klipsch speakers for home listening. He then said that he not only had a pair, but that they'd never been used. It turns out that he's moving, and he'd rather give them to someone than keep hanging onto them. In all fairness, I did mention prior that older Klipsch pairs are often worth a buck; he didn't know the model, but he knew they were about twenty years old. Needless to say, when he said he would give them to me, I said I'd have no problem hanging onto them. I spent some time excitedly going through the Klipsch catalog from twenty-ish years ago. Things were either looking pretty good or a bit rough; the early nineties could mean the KG, Epic, KLF, or Cornwalls, based on how big he said they were. The late nineties/early 2000s, on the other hand, could have meant the early Synergy towers. (Never heard them, but based on how my F-20s were, I don't think I'd like the early Synergy towers) As pictured, they're only set up like that to test them out. Everything works! If they've really never been used like he said, they'll be in need of some break-in. Even still, I'm surprised by how much bass they can make. I'd never liked how these looked in pictures, but they're actually quite visually pleasing in person. These have a visual growl that'll tell your friends, "Yes, they go loud." Why did wide tower speakers go out of style? You'll notice the top of the left speaker has been chewed up just a bit. It also has a scuffed corner now, due to an unloading error. How easily can cosmetic blemishes be repaired?

  30. Thanks Bill. It has been a fun project to restore it and get it working again. I have recently re-finished the plinth and am working on the cables. The tone arm is so old I dont think they make the needle plugs for it anymore for the phono cables so I am taking apart the plug and going to re-solder some copper instrument cables and RCA interconnects on the other side. I will definitely post some photos once it is done.

  42. I'm afraid if I hear Khorns I'll start planning the sale of my LSIIs for another upgrade. Hey I was just curious I know you said you upgraded to the La Scala II's because they are aesthetically nicer but in terms of sound quality how do they compare to the originals, any difference? Aaron, not sure if you saw my reply saying I was waiting to connect the LSIIs until I sold the LSIs. But you know, if you bought these La Scalas I would be able to do the comparison that much quicker....

  43. Just to interject here, cherry is not dark. Just sayin' Given enough time cherry is dark. It starts almost a reddish blond but will darken with age with just a clear finish. When people think cherry they often think of the color of antique cherry furniture which is dark. You are right that new cherry is not dark at all.

  45. Why this trend that anytime someone buys Klipsch Heritage speakers all the equipment (and stock parts or stock designs) are all "wrong"? They may not always be "wrong", but they are usually not "optimal" (meaning you aren't getting everything you can out of them). To borrow an explanation from another forum member whose name I cannot remember - horn speakers are "audio signal MAGNIFIERS". If there are distortions, fogginess, edge rasps, etc in your signal, these things WILL be audible in your speakers. I got a real lesson getting to watch the proper use of an oscilloscope on a power amplifer, by observing square waves of that amp on a scope at various frequencies. What we thought was an OK amp at 20 hz, 1000 hz, and even 10,000 hz became NOT OK at 20,000 hz.....a "ripple" across the top of the square wave. Which came home to roost in the form of very irritating high frequencies through the speaker. These Klipsch are PICKY. Some speakers might not matter so much what caps you use in your amps, crossovers, and so forth.....but with Klipsch, THEY DO. Same with sources or ANYTHING that touches the audio signal on it's way to the speaker. Some spots matter more than others, but if it touches the signal it will effect sonics in some way. Klipsch ARE good speakers in stock form. But PWK had beancounters too. He was a MASTER at getting the best out of modestly priced parts and good basic physics and engineering. The capacitors he used in old Heritage were basically a "military surplus" capacitor.....what are referred to as "motor run" PIO type caps, very similar to the Motorola caps that Bob Crites used for replacements until recently. They were adequate for the job, but in the 1950's and 1960's we didn't have access to the quality of capacitors that we have access to today - audio has come a LONG way in many areas since then. But even if PWK had access to V-Caps, he wouldn't have used them because they would increase the cost of the speaker that much more (and the parts cost usually gets translated to three dollars extra for every one dollar in added parts cost in the audio biz).....and in the 50's and 60's we did not have the high resolution formats and upstream components we have today. The goal of my audio pursuits has been, by and large, to REMOVE ANY added "fog, distortions, mud" and other unwanteds from the signal. I used to think (over the first two years of my posting here) that those basic capped networks were good enough and that those stock and pedestrian/common replacement caps in my McIntosh amplifers and preamp were good enough......hell, I thought most solid state was good enough. Until I heard other systems, and got to wondering......and traveling to other member's homes to hear their systems. And noticing that their gear wasn't all that different than what I had - until I looked INSIDE to see what parts that signal was getting pumped through. Then I began to wonder what was possible with my own gear. Where many, many people would upgrade their gear like I had, and move on to something else, I began to investigate just how much difference those internal parts were making: Took a pair of McIntosh MC-30 power amplifiers through four different capacitor setups/levels. Took a McIntosh MX-110 through three. Took my Belle Klipsch through FIVE. All with the invaluable help of people on this forum. Through this process, I discovered that my gears were a helluva lot better than I thought they could ever be. When the sum total of all of the upgrades were applied, it was a HUGE step-up in class of gear and performance. It was the SAME GEAR, but with high quality parts used in the audio path. It is hard to believe it is even the same system. If my wife can hear the improvements, I must be doing something right. I have a method of testing upgrades here - put them in and see if she notices. If she notices the improvements, it's an upgrade[] She's become a believer, too.....oh, and I've got another local friend whom I've addicted to Klipsch, caps and tubes, hehehehehe.....it's like a disease[] How far the individual hobbyist wants to take thier system is up to them. But when I think of all of the bad press/reviews that Heritage got over the years, I think of how those people were never taught how to make the most of them. Mr. "Bauhaus1" doesn't have that problem, because he found this forum. While there is no "textbook" answer as to what works best for him, with more input, experimentation, and participation here might find better answers for him. There is more than the "stock" solution. Those who choose and are satisfied with the stock solution aren't "faulty" or "unqualified" or anything of the sort - but we should not exclude what many of us consider to be better solutions. Whether or not that is "better solutions for the $$$" is another debate entirely. I am not trying to "sell" the original poster, just informing him that there are MANY options here. So I do encourage the original poster to stick around, and no matter what he chooses, it is my guess that he could sell off any later-to-be-discovered solutions back to the forum. If you bought new basic inexpensive network solutions, or bought a high priced set, you could probably recoup the majority of anything invested if you wanted to sell it off to someone on the forum, as there is a buyer at just about every performance level and taste here. It took me six years to get to where I am (and that was just on this forum) to get where I am with my systems today. I would also offer the same extended hand as Carl - feel free to PM or email. It would also help us all to know what of your tastes/room/gear/listening habits, which might steer you on a more well defined course. Finding the right answers for yourself is all part of the fun! We DO debate here, but we usually don't bite[]
