  1. I tried my best to purchase Matt's La Scalas but the distance made it tough (I'm in Montgomery, AL) and by the time I figured out my pony express they were gone. But alas... the wife and I were headed to Atlanta for dinner and a show this past weekend and on a whim I thought... I should check the Atlanta Criagslist! LOL Found a nice original pair from a gentlemen in Marietta (see my post in alerts for his Chorus he has for sale). I'm not sure of the year yet... if they are like the Heresy date code, I think these are 1980 or 1981. They are all original with a couple of dings and scratches but darn nice for their age. Left our hotel Sunday morning in downtown Atlanta and went and picked them up. It's a 3 hour drive home with a good chance of rain so moving blankets and a tarp were in order. Made it home just in time to beat the rain. I plan to rebuild the crossovers but they sure sound great as is!! I loved my Heresies but the La Scala? WOW. Very nice. I'm a happy guy! I'm driving these with an M-504 Onkyo Integra right now. not sure which system will eventually be "the one" but for now this will work. My room is almost 700 sq ft as it used to be the garage so I have plenty of room to open them up. I have a pair of Cerwin Vega CL-215's running in the rear of the room as well. The La Scalas are so sensitive, you can barely here the CV's! LOL This is a good thing in my book as they just add a little bottom end to the room with their dual 15's.

At dinner today I toasted my bride to another 34, which means I've got to make it to 101. I get headaches standing on my head. Oops, misread that it was your father. That was a rough time over there. 16. Yes, sort of. At medium grind, 1 scoop/6 oz cup is too weak. We'll try fine grind. The coffe recommends medium grind for drip. Perhaps the Bunn velocity brew is not "drip."

  20. COFFEE Dialing in the burr mill whole bean thing is proving more challenging than anticipated. The birthday pot of 8 O'Clock Colombian came out weak at 6 scoops for 4 cups. Take 2 was better at 8 scoops for 5 cups. I'm talking cups of coffee as Bunn defines them, not a "cup" as in a 16 oz cup. It's clear the fresh ground is not as strong scoop for scoop as the pre-ground. We're using the medium grind setting on the burr mill grinder. Intuitively, I would expect the fresh ground to be stronger, but the opposite seems to be the case.

  24. Important new information (help if you can please): Changed prices of Zener diode. I found that there are two Zeners, and they are 10 watt chassis mount type. The part number for them is Microsemi Corporation 1N3998A, and they are readily available but are expensive. They are $30.71 each, and you need two so $61.42 per network or $122.84 per pair of networks. I would like to know what Klipsch uses now days for tweeter protection. Surely there is an alternative which isn't so expensive like a polyswitch in the KP-201 I have. Can you help:: ?? Is a crossover person here who could elaborate on a good tweeter protection that doesn't cost more than a pair of used networks would. Turning your AL crossover into an AA or AL-3 crossover or performing the "wdecho mod" on your AL. (This what wdecho has done with his AL's and he is very pleased with the results.) Lot's of folks are stuck with the "Notch Filter Happy" AL they don't like. Rather than throw money at it with new caps etcetera, perhaps you might consider modifying it to be an AA, an AL-3 or perform wdecho's mod on it? That's what this thread is about. Perhaps it would be more to your liking to simply snag a pair of used AA or AL-3 networks or buy some new improved ones or even build your own AA's. The important thing is that the decision is yours. Prices are as of July 2016 at Bob Crites' and Parts Express. Here they are. From cheapest to most expensive: wdecho's Modded AL (cost per pair of networks $19.00 plus shipping) NEW! ADD $122.84 if you need Zener diodes: [this is the AA but leaves the T2A transformer (-6db) and the 125mH on the tweeter] 1) woofer - remove the 2.5mH and 30uF 2) squawker - change the 8uF to a 13uF $8 each ($5-9 at PE for 12uF's) 3) squawker - remove the 2.7mH 4) squawker - remove the 2.5mH 5) squawker - remove the 8uF 6) squawker - remove the 8 Ohm 7) tweeter - remove 0.5 mH 8) tweeter - remove 125uH 9) tweeter - remove 2uF 10) tweeter - add two Zener diodes (if your crossover doesn't have one) $61.42 per pair for a network! 25. These are 1975 ("N") not 1977 H's. I have a pair of "R" which are 1977 waiting to redo and I got my wires crossed. Sorry. 1975 model with consecutive serial numbers (I'll recheck serial numbers tonight and repost). I sanded down the walnut veneer, cut out all corners to apply 3/4" solid hormigo lumber, applied marbled aircraft grade wood backed etimoe veneer on tops, bottoms, sides and fronts. Installed neo magnets under from veneer, built new 1/2" grill, recapped E2 xover with Solen caps, installed new 14 gauge not fancy wire inside, ran horizontal side to side internal braced repainted the backs and speaker recesses black, built new slanted risers (2" to .75") using same veneer, applied 6 coats of Minwax wipe on poly satin and installed new banana plug terminals over location of old Klipsch screw down terminals. Bumped the top back veneer on one spot and had to splice in veneer to match. Hard to see from 3 feet away but gotta divulge that glitch. See pics. AHHHAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! (Yeah, I know I should have been more careful!) Will post better pics of risers. I glued on thin foam rubber on tops of risers to keep speaker from sliding. I drilled screw holes in the riser for those that want to permanently attach to speaker. K-24 woofers, K-55v mids and K-77 round magnet tweeters. All work great. $700.00 plus actual shipping charges. I'm in Little Rock if anyone wants to see them. I will take more pics after work and post more photos.

  26. Every time I hooked up an avr to by belles, they never sounded good. I tried my old harman kardon, my father's integra, and his onkyo, all sounded bad. It wasn't until I hooked up the old Sony did they sing. I'm going to try hooking up my harman kardon as a preamp to my Sony to see how that sounds, which will give me the sub out. Thanks for your suggestions. If this works out well, maybe I'll pick up that Yamaha or something from accessories 4 less.

The wife made dinner but I stayed in front of the speakers until bed time... can't wait to get home and listen some more. My first listen? 32. A small tourist hotel was all abuzz about an afternoon wedding where the groom was 95 and the bride was 23. The groom looked pretty feeble and the feeling was that the wedding night might kill him, because his bride was a healthy, vivacious young woman. But lo and behold, the next morning, the bride came down the main staircase slowly, step by step, hanging onto the banister for dear life. She finally managed to get to the counter of the little shop in the hotel. The clerk looked really concerned, "Whatever happened to you, honey? You look like you've been wrestling an alligator!" The bride groaned, hung on to the counter and managed to speak, "Ohhh! He told me he'd been saving up for 75 years, and I thought he meant his money!"

  46. With an 88db sensitivity, they would not be anywhere near as loud as the 101db RF-7's using the same amount of power. That might have been the problem with your old speakers which were low sensitivity as well with their 89db sensitivity. For every 3db gain, the power is doubled. So for an RF-7, at 1 watt of power, the 2000 would require 16 watts. For 2 watts on the RF-7, the 2000 would require 32 watts. For 4 watts of power, the 2000 would require 64 watts. For 8 watts of power on the RF-7, the 2000 would require 128 watts. At about 10 watts on the RF-7, you have reached the limit of how loud the 2000 could play IF you had a 200 watt signal, which your system isn't even capable of.
