  1. I look forward to the day when I can be a worker bee. Thinking for, being responsible for and eating s**t every time someone under me messes up gets old. When I retire from my current job, I'm going to find a mindless job where I can go to work, do my thing, be responsible for only me and go home each night without a care in the world regarding my employer.

  3. Subaru's eat rear wheel bearings..... I think there was a bulletins on some models..... I've done so many I've lost count.....and I love em when they get seized in Enjoy that auto shop coffee Bruce MKP :-) In the great scheme of things, the Subaru has been great. I love the all wheel drive and handling. I've not been too happy with the local Subaru dealer, but that's another story. Bruce

  4. Nothing like arriving to the party late, but I couldn't help commenting on Dr. Who's suggestion that Paul may have been a tad too "quick on the draw" with his BS flashing. Chief Bonehead said PWK was in his 70's when he met him. Actually he was in his early 80's. This means that he had been exposed to BS for over 50 years at that point, and it wasn't just in the audio field. At General Electric (1927) he was exposed to "perpetual motion" in an advanced in-house engineering course. It was a joke, but clearly BS. In the 30's his geophysics experience in Houston was also punctuated with BS, as reflected in correspondence with both the #1 and #2 men in the history of geo-chemical oil prospecting. Can you imagine the BS he dealt with in the Army? Particularly for a guy in his late 30's? Then he enters the extremely fledgling audio field, one that necessarily combines science and art. What a mess just ripe for snake-oil!!! My point is that after 50+ years of constantly dealing with BS, I can understand if his trigger finger might have grown a bit quick. In my experience, if you approached him on a "considered level", he would always engage the subject and generally guide you into disproving your own "theory". But a cavalier, unsupported statement just might deserve a quick draw of the yellow button!

  5. AC came back on about 5 PM. Quickly dropped the temp to 88 in the house from 91. Slowly bringing it down. Right now, it is at 77. Got a good night's sleep. It is amazing what temperature sinks we have in a house. Hopefully it will stabilize at 73 today. Especially since the heat index is supposed to be 117 today!

  6. You got my attention! I love the 7 series Audi's. That RS7 is a rocket. I would be just as happy with an S7. Look at the BMW B7 Alpina too. Another beautiful German rocket. I had a 65 Mustang, and frankly I didn't like that much even though it was a K-code - HiPo 289 triple black 4 speed. The 65 is a tiny car compared to the 67 which is smaller than the 69. It didn't handle well, either. I like the 67-68 better than any of the 60's stangs. I would love to have a Boss 9 some day, but that will never happen as the prices are out of this world. Frankly I'd rather have a well built 67 resto-mod with full suspension, brakes and A/C. I have a 67 right now that would be a nice donor for such a project. Maybe I will do that if I don't just sell the car. Anybody interested? Some pics I just now took. Car is dusty as heck.

  8. Wouldn't it be great if there was one central location for all of the stories about PWK could be collected in one place and accessible to those who are interested in the man and his products? Collected both in a physical sense, and accessible online. Wouldn't it be great to have a section on this forum where you could "Ask the historian" any question you wanted about PWK and it would be answered by a combination of someone with personal knowledge of the man or events and reference to historical archives or interviews?

  9. As in two washerwomen doing the other's laundry... I am willing to be a worker (not necessarily a worker be) until I die, as long as it is being productive in some way. It's all good, and it is Friday. Bruce

  10. I need to be, but I can't find a job I'm willing to take... Wasn't directed at you Bruce. Just in general to all, HAPPY FRIDAY! But I do understand your plight. In someone's delusional reality we can all sell hamburgers and car parts to each other and create wealth.

  12. New Crites B Crossovers and C120 Tweets installed last night. Both woofers rotated 90 degrees- from the leads at 9:00 to the leads at 12:00 (not sure if that was how they were mounted from the factory or if the previous owner turned them- if so, he turned both of them.) I ran a CW left and forte II right briefly to compare the two (not ideal with different sensitivities, but good enough for a short test.) Thoughts and observations . . . 1. CWs bottom is simply more full and detailed- fortes seem to hit all the bottom peaks but lack the detail or presence in between the peaks. 2. fortes showed better mid projection and detail- but not by a huge difference- but audible at matching power. 3. CWs with the 120 upgrade sound magical up high. My fortes with stock diaphragms held their own, but just weren't as crisp or detailed. Titanium for the fortes is next. Beyond the two channel test, I moved my fortes to the side positions in my 7.1 and did some quick leveling (previously kg3.2s) and WOW- two channel into 7 channel stereo sounded amazing! Of course that brought in the rest of my speakers to the fight - (2)KG2.2s Center - (1) HSU ULS-15 Sub - (2) Boston Acoustic In-walls Rear. I'm contemplating swapping in my now unused KG3.2s for Centers. I could then get the wall mount brackets and hang my 2.2s as rears. I kicked around moving the fortes to the center position, but I just don't have room. Other plans, ideas, questions for another thread in another forum, I digress . . . Regardless, simply replacing the 3.2s with the fortes at the side (and the new/old CWs up front) upgraded the detail and range several fold. Quantum of Solace is on my list for this weekend. I tested with a lot of material, but if you get a chance . . . spin up "One Caress" by Depeche Mode off of Songs of Faith and Devotion- great track for testing, lots of range and detail across the mix. Thanks to everyone for their help. I was pretty bummed my purchase of the CWs was going to require additional work and investment, but it's been totally worth it. For reference- total price speakers/upgrades- $1000. Could have saved about $150 if I'd have just done new caps instead of an entirely new board from Bob.

  13. I did a factory tour of Range Rovers last summer in Solihull, UK, and we popped in to the Jaguar XE facility. It was mid-afternoon, and there wasn't a soul to be found in the building and all of the machines and robots were stopped even though all the lights were brightly on. I expected there was some missing "just in time" part that had stopped production. What I found out was that they were having 'Tea Time'. LOL The tour guide said "we Brits take our tea time seriously". The actual truth is that they mandate breaks in Solihull and not even mechanics are allowed to work through them. The idea is that the productivity is increased, folks don't get burned out, less injuries, and better employee retention. Great idea tea time, isn't it?

  17. So what happened with this? I have a lot of HVAC equipment installed and would love to know what "internal filter" was replaced and how that tied into her needing Freon. What kind of warranty came with the equipment in the first place? I think she should not only find the maint. agreement, but the paperwork on the original equipment and check the original warranty, get the itemized bill including the specific part with the part number of the internal filter and specifically how much Freon they claimed to add/replace. This doesn't sound right at all.

Should be good for a while, probably trade it off before too much longer. It's got 190k on it, so it's gettin' up there. Auoto shop coffee isn't bad, either. Bruce

  22. A few of my favorites that I'd like to own. 1950 Cadillac Hearse I'd chop, drop, and do the interior in a burgundy velvet with a burgundy carpet with jet black paint, and flames. The one with the flames was actually for sale near me many years ago and was owned by a rock band. We were about $5000.00 apart in pricing at the time. 1949/1950 Merc chopped and dropped.

  25. Carl is right imo. The key to this will be the terms of the agreement LF actually has in place, not the fact that the guy tried to sell her another agreement or what he implied. Best of luck with this, Chuck. Reading this again, it's a good thing she paid with Visa. You have leverage.

  29. You seem pretty sure about that, as you were regarding death penalty not being a deterrent. Do you base that on your experience, or "general knowledge" within your profession, or do you have specific knowledge based on research? (no citations needed or asked for) Not challenging or implying anything my friend, just curious in a general way. Putting death penalty aside for a moment, quicker trials isn't going to affect crime rates one way or the other. Neither does minimum mandatory sentences. They do not make an impact on crime rates. They do impact incarceration rates obviously. We mandatory sentencing in the federal system from '87 until 2005 when the Booker decision found them to be unconstitutional amd a violation of the 6th Amendment, which is the topic of this thread. Since Booker, federal sentencing guidelines are advisory only.

  35. Great. Now more of my money is going to leave... We happen to have an extra Technivorm and don't need it... if you have speakers to trade I'm all ears. I wear the scarlet shipping letter of living in Alaska. Trades are not the deals they could be...

  46. Frzn -- It looks like you have some large items inside the horn in your center La Scala. Have you tried comparing the sound differences between an empty horn and with those items inside it? I'd be concerned that those items are affecting the sound -- by being inside the horn, they are changing the horn by reducing the cross-sectional area at the horn's exit.

  47. These would make a great project for a 2 way lascala, there are lots of great horn/driver combos that would fit the bill. Good luck with the sale.
