  2. Evening gang Farm run, and day of recovery followed. Miller 200 W/Argon Tank .....Free Sprayed unit last night for critters. Today, pull cover and see if it's worth restoring. By the looks, less than a hundred hours tops. All factory wiring great shape, deviation would be the pic showing the three power wires to the switch. Other than those wires, well worth having a wire feed argon rig for maybe $300 in upgrades.

  4. I just looked at that main 3 phase contactor inside the machine. I see now that all 3 legs are bonded together and therefore acting as a heavy duty single phase switch. Of course 4 or 5 wires in use could indicate 3 phase either with only a ground or ground & neutral being 5 wire.

  5. Nice machine, I have a tiny dc Miller, just for stick's, it's good enough considering how much it gets used. Be back in a few days people, heading 3 hours West to hang out with friends. and some .

  6. Nice Mark.... I have always liked the Miller welding machines. I used a Miller TIG when I was in welding school. The Miller MIG also laid nicer beads that the Lincoln. I have a Lincoln MIG at the shop.... it gets the job done but I would love to upgrade to Miller.... I love playing with metal.... MKP :-)

  8. Have you checked the polarity of the woofers to make sure they are hooked up correctly? I've swapped the speaker wires inadvertently in my haste to hear new speakers or speaker modifications. It's easy enough to rule out.

  10. I'm right in the middle of a major home improvement project, doing it all myself. I did not want to sand, primer, and paint drywall over the top of my speakers so I moved them to the bedroom. I forgot how big and heavy these things are. They even look impressive from the backside.

  11. I found a very unloved pair of Quartets at one of the Goodwill's I frequent on Tuesday 11/29 for $20. They need a serious cleaning but all of the drivers and radiators work. They sounded much better than I expected. I am going to investigate the condition of the crossover as the highs sound a bit dull. According to the price tag they were put out on Sunday 11/27. I am sure the less than desirable purple stain and sheer weight of 52 pounds made a lot of people simply walk by them or give up once they attempted to move them. Getting them in my small sports car was definitely a challenge but worth it in the end. Despite the hideous color the cabinets are in pretty good shape with no major physical damage to the veneer. I have already been researching what it would take to restore the cabinets as well as the upgrades from Bob Crites. The serial numbers are non-sequential and are very far apart from each other. The tag indicates the original finish as BLK 19. I am fond of the natural walnut finish but since these are supposed to be black I will return them to their original color. I will also try to pull the cones of the rear radiators back out using a shop-vac and brush attachment. Hopefully with some patience it will return to its original form. A few questions. What is the best cleaner and type of wrag to get the mold off the woofer? I don't want to do any damage to it or leave a lot of lint behind. How much power do these really need to sound right? At the moment, just for testing I have a Yamaha 2ch RX-595 40wpc receiver hooked up to them but I feel its under powered for these. I have a larger Denon 2ch DRA-685 rated at 100wpc. Do I need more than that?

  13. This is post 5000. +++ Post 5k means something on the Klipsch forum, so I respectfully acknowledge that. +++ What does mean something to me is the 2,547 "Likes" I have been given. I appreciate each and every one. Thank you. +++ I have met some cool people in person thanks to this board. Number one has to be Mustang Guy. I have spent time at his Speaker Ranch, he helped me move some Klipschorns into my living room. That is more than an on-line friend, and even though I appreciate my Forum friends, it takes a real-life friend to help you do a road trip to find and move Khorns. Thanks, Craig. +++ I've got to give a shout out to the Forum Moderators. They are real people like the rest of us, and they do a heck of a job keeping us from poking each other in the cyber eye-balls with a cyber stick. Thanks Mods, for not giving me a Warning Point when I couldn't keep my political comments to myself. You showed saint-like restraint. +++ Thanks to all my Klipschite friends for hanging out with me. Remember I always post with a smile on my face. -Dave

  14. Same here. Mine is home made and I am sure that I'll have one leg that might be a few volts off and not exactly 120 degrees out of phase.

  15. Marks machine looks 3 phase? It can be done on household single phase but its some work to setup. I have a 3 phase lathe and 3 phase vertical bandsaw here running on single phase with a couple of rotary phase converters.

  24. The center channel is probably the most important speaker in a home theater setup. It's also a good idea to stay within the same family of speakers, a model up or down won't be as detrimental as using something extremely different in design. Speakers within a family are typically voiced similarly to one another, you may notice a difference in output and frequency response is all.

  27. Morning. Coffee flowing ... Getting ready to roll out for another days adventure.... lol lol Ahhhh NO! You got that 100% right Carl...... I call the one used car guy "Sticky Turd" cuz he's like a piece of crapp ya can't wipe off he's relentless. They are brothers and they got the used car lot from there dad. Both of these guys have quite a bit of coin behind them. They come with that "entitlement" attitude.... What concerns me is, my/our landlord is not in the best of health and when he kicks the bucket these two will buy the place. If this happens I probably won't have my shop any more. They offered the landlord 800k for the place last year. The landlord won't sell it to them for a lump sum. The landlord want's to finance them for 15 years. But when you do the math they would end up paying close to 1.3 mill. My landlord got this place from his dad back in the 70's for 21K. He would get killed in taxes if he took the lump sum. I was hearing all about last year when he wouldn't sell.....again that "entitlement" was in the air.... They were pissed cuz they couldn't get what THEY wanted! I have been at my shop now for over 18 years. I know every shop in town that has done work for these two. Over the years all of the other shop owners ask me "how the he!! do you stand those guys?" The other shop owners have told me there war stories about these two... I have been in the auto business for over 30 years and I know all too well how salesmen are.... but these two are on another level... Enough of this... today is a new day.... and it's gonna be a good one A good day to all.. MKP :-)

  29. Evening gang... OMG what a day..... I am soooo backed up at the shop it's nuts...... I got a couple cars at the shop that won't even make it in the shop till next week. I've had this old 07 Ford Taurus at the shop for the last couple days. The rear wheel brake cylinders were starting to leak. I wanted to use Ford OEM wheel cylinders, they weren't a lot of money and I figured the original ones lasted all this time I would use the Ford ones. I put both of them on and had The BOSS jump in the car to help be bleed out the air.... When I thought we were done I see all this brake fluid dripping out of left side brake drum.... The NEW wheel cylinder had blown out .... Too use the word "PISSED" is a understatement , once I calmed down I got a wheel cylinder from the local parts store for 7 bucks..... The Chinese 7 dollar one didn't leak..... Also the used car guys have been pounding on me since I got back from our vacation Monday to get there stuff done... The one used car guy got a little "flip" with me this evening. They DO NOT care what my shop has going on. Today was not the day to poke a stick at me.... I took all there parts and keys back over to there office and told em to stick it up there A$$. There were a few other thing I informed him about that I can't say here. It's not like they have customers ready to buy these cars that need work..... and I understand if there is someone ready to but a car, I put it 1st on my list.... and it's not like there are 10-20 cars I gotta work on..... It's four cars that need some brake work and some other and I did one of the cars Monday...... and two of there cars are not even on the lot... there at the clean-up shop... The cherry on top was the water pipe that started leaking in the shop later in the day.... water leaking all in my bay..... what a mess... Anyway the day is over...... in the words of one of the best service managers I worked for ..... "This too shall pass" MKP :-)

  34. And just like here, everyone goes merrily about their business with the nagging little thought that whatever they do, the government knows about it, it's on camera, or in the paper trail, and it's getting worse, and many people think it's a great idea, because it makes us so much safer.

  37. Your hypothesis is true if one is indeed using his amp as some from of compressor. It's not true if the amp has the power to accurately reproduce the input, including transient peaks, which takes far more power than most realize. This applies to all amps by the way, tube or ss. I suspect that most of us who prefer SET do so because of performance at the other end of the envelope, way down low, where things such as the utter absence of crossover distortion and no requirements for nfb come into play. Dollars to donuts that any of our flea watt wonders are clipping the crap off transients, in spite of our use of high sensitivity speakers at what most of us would consider moderate listening levels.

  38. Hey gang, just checking in without a lot to say. It's starting to look a little more like winter in these parts after a warm fall. Ski resorts are opening a bit late as a result but should be at full speed by the holidays. Unlike a lot of the country, snow is a good thing out here. My re-tired Pathfinder is ready. Mark (MKP) ... nice push back on the brothers. Bullies usually back off when you don't take their b.s. Gonna spend time this weekend hauling boxes of Christmas stuff up from our lower level. We could decorate 2 houses with all the crap we've accumulated. Better Half unit loves all of it and it's my job to keep her happy. Cheers ya'll.

  45. It's a rainbow to Oz. Congratulations Dave. To have 5000 post in 2.5 years means...., let's see - That mean 2.5 x 365 and add a capitol 6 and divide that by C and multiply that by the square root of a round rock equals a bit...which is 12.5 of something.
