  2. Merry Christmas to all. I'm Jewish and don't mind a Merry Christmas from folks- I understand the intent and appreciate it. I always use the term myself with all but those I know for sure are Jews. Enjoy your wonderful Holiday.

  3. Mine also, I avoid him unless something hurts. I do go see a dentist three hours from home at least once a month, but he's a forum member and in no way any dentist work is done, my kind of dentist.

  4. I just noticed this feature ... apparently, I won December 13th. Guess it’s too late to celebrate now. Thank You all that elevated me to this distinguished level of service. As always my pledge to you is that if you don’t expect anything from me, you won’t be let down.

  6. Thanks for the Holiday wishes folks! I like wishing everyone a great Holiday season. For so many of us, this forum is a part of our lives and we get a lot of personal enjoyment from being on this forum. It's kinda like family. We learn from each other, talk shop like guys at the neighborhood hang out, fuss sometimes, laugh and share personal stories. Just knowing someone cares is all that is needed to make Holidays brighter. I celebrate Xmas but, use the term Holiday to respect all the diverse backgrounds of our members.

  7. Well in Ca we have our share of flaky dental providers. Iv always had fairly good ins, and it seems most play the "Max it OUT" game. Im now on Dentist #5 in seven years, and this being the same office as flake #4, ill see how things go for a bit. My teeth are by no means a "Mess" never have been, but when you azz is in the chair, who the hell else do we listen to?

  9. I enjoy coffee daily and espresso on rare occasions. Tea ,on the other hand, has an unpleasant association to being ill as a child. That was the only time my mother served me tea. Of course, she didn't serve me coffee either, when I was a child.

  21. Clicking on that link, https://www.cdc.gov/listeria/outbreaks/ice-cream-03-15/map.html if you look to the right, I'd just like to point out that we evaded this outbreak of listeria, which is great considering out geographical proximity to the activity! Here in far pacific southwest, it's -2 and calm. Merry Christmas to all ice cream consumers and abstainers! And just to goad the Texans that care, here's a quick reminder that if you cut Alaska in half, Texas would be the third largest state. The coffee pot is stirred, moving right along... http://www.alaska.org/how-big-is-alaska

  27. Hey there Miner and friends, sorry to learn that news about your dentist! You are far from alone... I left mine a couple years ago because I felt my technician and the dentist (my good neighbor and partner with 3 other associates at his office) were in kahoots..(meaning, making stuff up!, I could even hear them whispering behind me while I lay in the chair!) They started this thing, wanting to drill one of my eye teeth because there was a 'little something'... HUH? . He says he wants to do a 'llittle' fix on it... I make the appointment for a few days later, and yeah, he drills it, puts in the fancy resin filling at my request, sends me on my way with this damn BURR I never had before. I was upset enough to go into my sanding dept. at our shop, grab some 600 grit and finish the job!!!! Ah, much better..... It gets worse..... with pulling a molar that they filled TWICE on TWO different visits!, but did not catch the rot BELOW the gumline with their xrays!! Need I say, the resin fillings are very pricey, so, $500 worth in the yanked molar PLUS the added $165 to extract it?!? Rediculas, and a waste, and since I don't have insurance....ouch! A few cleanings later............he starts up after my tech was done with a cleaning, playing with the eyetooth yet AGAIN!! Wants me to come back and do another 'little fix'.... a SECOND TIME?! I make the appointment alright... I said to myself, NEVER coming back here....nice as they are, . too much money going down the drain without much improvement in the mouth... My search continues, but I feel they are all in on it.... I looked into Aspen Dental...........figured I may try dentures and be done with flesh and bone... I get the free xrays, doc tells me nothing I already don't know. Front desk gal wants to take impressions right then and there!! I say WOAHA!, I need to think about this. Darn mid-grade dentures will run me $9100 !!! They want me to finance through them at the rate of 21% !!!!!! What the......... ! They called me, sent emails which I ignored and then I decided to write them and ask to have an itemized bill showing where all that money is going. That was only a few months ago, I NEVER heard back..... interesting....not surprised however... Sorry, just had to share.. Ok, off the soap box Enjoy your evening my friends... .....................g

  32. Good Friday Afternoon gang Friday, had to check. Bloody Mary time, wet, Cold windy rain, good for the snow pack. 140% of the norm. No Drought today, my back yard is mush, and of course the Heavyazz Dodge is sitting back there. Front end of the Dodge has got to weigh in at 2 tons, when i steer, i leave ruts 8" deep, of course the Dually's roll right over them and slip/slide all over the place. this is NO Snow truck. Shopping the Bay and China deals, looks like everything gold plated is a steal. PayPal saw to it i was refunded my $4 bones for that new fangled stereo last week. Not afraid to make China deals with PayPal on my side, only the second time in 10+years. Man-o-man we got some wind, hearing noise all around the cave, time for a looksee outside.

  34. Great attitude, I would guess/hope most people have no other intent when they say it. Everyone have a great Christmas, Hanukkah or whatever you celebrate. Be safe and relax, I say relax because it's sometimes a little harder this time of the year.

  36. Just need to finish the feedback connections, run the wiring for the cathodes and test points, connect the binding posts, the RCA jacks/wiring, then B+ to the OPTs. Scrounge up some tubes, and see if the voltage/current matches up with Gillespie's schematic...heh

  37. That is a large room for HT. No less than two 15 in. subs, even if one has to be added later. The larger towers will also make a difference with the largest center channel. Budget may be tight but, having to replace some of the speakers down the road will end up costing you more in the long run. Many of us tried to get buy without having to spend as much and had to upgrade anyway. Getting it right the first time will add to your enjoying the system. Welcome to the forum and ask all the questions that cross your mind.

  38. Definitely get the 15, two if possible, or at least plan on adding a second one later. A single 12 in a room that big isn't going to dig very deep. Some of those items like the subs are on promotion this month so keep that in mind. If you were on a strict budget maybe consider ditching the two surrounds in the rear for awhile and spending more on the larger speakers, better ceiling speakers, and/or 4 channel atmos, especially considering some of those items are on promotion while the surrounds are not. You can wire up the rear surrounds for now and easily finish it out later. Same with the ceiling speakers, you can add those later. Way easier and cheaper to simply add stuff later as money and time allows than to upgrade existing stuff.

  40. Of course best to all here. A few years ago Christmas was particularly stressful and I was grumpy. Then I recalled the the words of the sage of the Midwest, that being Ann Landers (Chicago Sun-Times IIRC). Someone had written to her complaining of apparently petty annoyances in another context. Ann responded, "I suggest you count yer blessings and quityerbitchen." It was almost language the paper would not print. It always puts things in perspective and is a fine story. Happy New Year too. 41. My dentist retired and sold his practice to a chatterbox who loves to spend my money. Some months ago I broke a crown on a molar. It's not visible and it causes me no pain, but stringy food now gets caught. He was ready to charge me $900 to repair it. I declined. While recently in China I broke a crown on a molar on the other side. That prompted me to do something I'd considered doing for a long time. I made an appointment at the University Detroit Mercy Dental School. The costs are generally a third the cost of a regular dentist. The appointments take longer because it's a teaching facility. So far I'm very impressed. I have had the most thorough dental examination in my life, including the most comprehensive x-rays ever taken. The equipment and procedures are state of the art. The professors oversee the diagnoses of the dental students. So far, the lower cost is a bonus. The care is better than I ever got from my old dentist.

  42. I did at one time (around 2004 or 2005) have an agreement with Klipsch to resell their parts similar to what Simply Speakers is doing. That went good for awhile but someone high up at Klipsch objected because he found out I was selling parts on the internet. So, they cancelled the deal they had with me. That bothered me at first, but probably was a good thing for me. That caused me to start developing my own parts to use as replacement parts for Klipsch speakers.
