  3. Toolshed amps, that is. As promised, I just wanted to give an update on my system. I purchased a pair of black Heresy 3's back in November to pair with an old Marantz 2270 in a 11'x11' mancave. That combo sounded pretty good but a bit harsh up top. After reading this forum, I realized that tubes were the way to smooth that treble out. I noticed that a forum member, Toolshed Amps, was held in high regard. After an e-mail (or 20) I commissioned Matt to build me a SET amp and preamp. Well, the end result is stunning! Custom zebrawood and wenge exterior, polished metal top/front plates with a custom transformer-cover art that I asked for. The volume knobs even go to 11! I'm not a technical guy but all I know is that I just don't want to turn this rig off! Soundwise, that harsh upper treble is tamed and the bass is TIGHT. The glorious midrange is silky smooth and overall the soundstage is 3D...wall to wall. I couldn't be happier. I will try to attach a few pics. Thanks to all for the guidance and allowing me to brag a bit.

  4. My brother had the chemically induced stress test yesterday, had to because of a bad ankle. He said it was a tremendous warm feeling that covered his body almost instantly. He felt like he wasn't in control. The results were excellent. I did the treadmill test a few weeks ago. it was fun actually.....till the end

  12. I think Texas is relatively liberal regarding gun laws. Open carry is an option. You have to realize that Mike is a shady character in need of extreme vetting. As for Indiana, well, as the main arms supplier to Chicago, I imagine the laws their are even more liberal.

  19. Sitting here in an underground garage with a dead battery. No warning, nada, nothing. Grrrr. Battery WANTS to turn over but it's kaput. Original 2009 battery in my Lexus. You'd think there would have been some sort of warning. Stopped to get some groceries and came back out pfthhh. AAA to the rescue. I could be in worse places so I'm grateful that I'm dry and have coffee, food and my health

  20. In KS we are very liberal, open carry is legal no permit, license required. Even though I thought TX laws would be as liberal if not more I still thought best to contact TX Hiway Patrol before heading there for a motorcycle ride. Telling the officer my intent he welcomed us with open arms, loaded firearm tucked away in luggage. I asked about loaded piece in my coat on my person where he said "well if your pulled over and it's found on your person, I'm afraid your going to have a bad day". It takes a license to carry in TX apparently.

  22. Does Texas require you to apply for a new permit, or renew the one you already have? Is there a permit expiration date, or can you get a lifetime permit? I thought Texas had a pretty simple permit process? Here in Indiana, they're currently considering legislation for someone to carry a gun for 60 days without a permit just by obtaining a protective order against someone.

  23. I have the RP 280f's. As an earlier post suggested, if you have tone controls on your amp, no shame in using them. I keep treble just left of center, about 11 o'clock so to speak. My listening room is smallish, 12 X 15, and I have hard wood floors with an area rug. Windows are not treated with any drapes. Even in that "bright" of a room, that little bit of adjustment worked wonders. My two cents.

  25. Good Friday morning gang Appears rain is moving on. Impending disaster from the Cheap Dam up north. They have opted to open the spillway so it eats out the rest of the face of the Dam. Local entertainment at it's best. Farm run for Donuts and restore power to the house well head. Burrito breakfast on the way there, been needing that for some time. I'll take the camera today, play Drama photog when the sun comes up.

  26. First you have to understand WHAT their telling you they're cooking. I have a French/Creole talking friend at work who happens to be the coolest guy ever. Understand him? Only every third word. But man can he BBQ!! He gets that company grill fired up sometimes and let's it rip. Co-workers on their days off come into work to eat. Yeah, it's that good.

  33. Yes. It goes something like this: OMG, we have too much water, we will have to raise rates to get enough money to "take care of it". Meanwhile their retirees collect $8 -10K a month for doing nothing(not that they did much of anything when they were working). I've met and talked to some of them, they're proud that they are bankrupting our children and grandchildren. I always tell them your gravy train is going to go off the tracks. End rant.

  34. Good Mid-morning gang Starting to rain a tad, should be our last storm, four day dry spell coming up. Weather Tv drama playing out daily, i think they spend all night looking for area creeks. Dam's are full, rivers are high, just like the last 100 years. And we have been informed water rates WILL still increase as planned. Oroville Dam spillway has given up, got a huge hole in it half way down, unusable. This comes from typical Calif "Lowbidder" contracts, then official's still want their palms polished......normal. Back in my prospecting days i had a claim north of there, ran into a few gents that stated their driveway had thicker concrete, guess they were right

  36. Agreed. But such is history. I advise all to ignore third party reporting of science. Research and read only primary source materials before forming any opinions. "Climate change deniers" has the same ring today as "heretic" did in the 16th century. To question climate change is, indeed, insane. Questioning human impact on it is not insane. It's skeptical. Skepticism in the service of truth is a good thing. Dave

  37. John Allbright is correct, the LaScala was never really originally designed as a "consumer HOME" item. It was for stage use. But it was many years after it was put into production that a so-called "INDUSTRIAL" model was available...the same thing goes for the Klipschorn...which could be RIGGED for industrial use, and the TSCM was actually designed for industrial use. But consumers liked the LaScala and wanted them, so they were sold to them. Lots of LaScalas that were not originally rigged with the Heavy Duty Industrial woofer were made with handles, if the customer wanted them. It only took a few minutes to rout-out the holes for mounting them, and the handles were ready to mount. Some customers asked for them after purchase, too! The metal trim for the so-called INDUSTRIAL line didn't start until the late 1970's as a FACTORY option (sometime around 1977-79, I think!)...the same goes for the industrial black textured finish and the fiberglass finish...they became factory options at that same time. People had been using handles of different kinds on LaScalas prior to the introduction of the "Klipsch" labeled ones, which came out at the same time as the industrial finishes came out....all in the late 1970's. The metal corner trim was a steel casting, and I can remember when the prototypes for those corners showed up and were sent back for further changes...we weren't really equipped to be a machine shop, and the original prototypes involved too much finishing, so the company made that happen elsewhere...so that we just had to mount the final product...and cut the aluminum edge trim to fit (snugly) between the steel corner fixtures. As for the "Klipsch" industrial handles, they were mounted to the upper sides of the LaScala bass bin, simply because that made the speakers easier to maneuver around in that position, but it also caused the handle body to enter into the bass horn soundpathway...so some folks just ordered the handles and mounted them HIGHER on each side of the HF section of the cabinet...so that the intrusion into the bass bin didn't happen. While I was there they only had ONE size "Klipsch" handle.

  38. Replace the penny junk resistors with Mills non-inductive resistors. Any epoxy coated oval capacitors should be replaced as well. I've been doing this for people since 2004 -- it works.

  39. There is such a broad line of models and offerings form Klipsch now a days and for a long time now actually. Being a blue collar worker myself I can say that the brand new Palladium and Heritage speakers are pretty out of my budget so don't think they were designed with people like me in mind but I'm perfectly happy to buy used. Now if you're going to walk into best buy and grab a middle of the road product off of their shelf and then complain about the quality all I can say is you get what you pay for. Also, there is ways to tone down response as mentioned above that don't include toilet paper and L-pads so give them a try or maybe try a different speaker model or different audio equipment / source. Basically there's a lot of things that can cause a bad experience and the speakers themselves are just one piece of the puzzle.

  41. I'll respond to the the OP's complaint. If you don't like the high frequency response of whatever Klipsch speaker bothers you, you don't need to mod the speaker to tame it. Just use an equalizer. There's no shame in that.
