  1. Raining again....grass will be a foot high before the rainy spell stops. Cooking dinner for a school chum who has been diagnosed with lung cancer. His wife too! He's a year younger than me and a good guy. We played Little League baseball together. Neither he nor his wife are smokers. Bought a 2 pack of chuck roast and a key lime pie from Costco. Cutting up onions, carrots, leaving the new potatoes whole. Flour, salt and pepper and brown it off on all sides. Into the oven for three hours with the vegetables added after two hours. Dinner rolls and that's it. It's enough for several meals and since they are both sick it will come in handy. Feeling sad.....

  2. i think the wise move is getting all the identification possible on person(s) and vehicle and turning it over to the law. some punk with neck tattoos came at me and got in my face recently. I calmly told him to get the f*k away from me. Just then my brother exits Starbucks and grabs me by the arm and leads me away. I hate to admit this; but, I’m not in my 20s anymore--i know a few things that others don’t in regards to self-defense; but, that doesn’t change the fact that i’m in my mid-50s. With two seriously herniated discs in my neck, in which I can barely turn my head, one punch to my face would probably be enough to put me down. The pain would radiate down my arm and i probably wouldn’t be able to raise it. UNLESS adrenaline took over--who knows. i think my brother did the right thing by taking me out of harm’s way.

  3. To push my Cornwall II's. A very early MX110, and a MC250(restored by Audio Classics). I'd say I'm all set for summer.

  4. Absurd question of the day winner. I could see Carl's hurricane checklist, Vodka, ice chest full of ice for the shaker, food and just for tradition the standard "bread and milk", for some reason the first thing they run out of at the stores ? It would be good to be his neighbor, as long as you like music !

  5. Just checked 119, way more people have them than just the people in this thread, still can't believe you did that, never know what to expect from you. I bet your wife has seen some stuff over the years.

Will be removing all aerosols from the Dodge today. Current Drama is rolling power outages, this state su cks. Iv NO problem firing up the Honda Gensets and plugging in the 5th wheel AC. Camping next to the house works just fine for the wife and i, we are prepared.

  9. concur. maintaining situational awareness and correctly gauging it -- i intervene. Most definitely if someone is being attacked.

  10. I agree 50.1% OTOH, if I gauge the situation in my favor then holding the perp until LE arrives then the perp is caught. If using stolen vehicle, yadda yadda then perp goes off to do other bad things. Now if I were to come across bad guy having interaction with elderly lady rather than a car tire I would of course draw and command.

  11. The Fastrac horn is a good investment. They are well designed, well built, great sounding units.

  13. LF over this afternoon and we were playing a bunch of CDs amazed at the new speakers. If they come out with the RF380s at a reasonable price this fall she will be getting my 280F's and I'll move up a notch. Then I will be done

  15. Roughing it in style, well with a whole house generator you're not roughing it at all. Reminds me of when we broke down once in Kevins bus, were on the side of the road waiting on the huge tow truck, in the AC with a drink eating fried chicken, and of course sat TV. I told him I have never been stuck on the side of the road quite like this before, we were not really stuck, he was towing his truck.

  16. I was really enjoying this thread but it has been quiet for many days now so I thought I would start some fun with my non-FORD forum friends - not looking to create enemies though. So attached is my Hemi-killer that I built from my mom's car about 17 years ago. I use to drag race it at the track to annoy my Chevy friends with muscle cars. Nothing like coming out of the end of the track ahead of your buddies. P.S. I have learned to not be to uppity as you don't know what the next guy is running. .

  17. Not necessary. We have an icemaker in the freezer and a whole house generator. We'll get by.

  23. Seems the eye will hit barely east of us. We should be good as we'll be on the clean side. There's a steady breeze out of the north here this morning. I took in everything in the yard and patio that I thought might take flight this morning. Rain shouldn't be an issue because even if a good band hits us, the drainage improvements made over the years around our house should handle it. At this point I have no worries over this storm (subject to change without notice).

  24. Tornado warning alert woke us at 4:44 am this morning. Apparently, a water spout was detected just off shore heading towards Destin. We were ready to hit the nearest stair well, but it seems that it made shore just west of here near Fort Walton Beach. Winds are still 40 mph here with heavy rains coming down and sometimes sideways. Good luck to all of you in the direct path of this storm, which looks like will be the Texas / Lousiana border (Carl).

  30. I asked myself what I would have done if my arrival was +/- a few minutes. I had parked next to her. I carry. Would I have intervened if I stepped out of my truck when this was happening right in front of me? Probably. Over a tire?

  31. Not the ending I expected, but a good one. And why would someone knife the tire of an elderly women. You wouldn't think she had enemies. But that doesn't take into account all the f'd up people roaming the streets these days.

  32. So I am in a TMobile store today asking about my girl's dead iPhone (won't charge after screen and battery replacement) when I notice a commotion. Seems someone pulled up by a car in the parking lot, jumped out and knifed a tire on a new car sitting there then drove away. Owner comes out of the next door store and a TMob customer tells her what happened and gave her the license plate number he caught. I am walking by now and ask her if she wanted me to put the spare on. She says thanks and that her 80 some odd year old husband at home couldn't do it. About the time I had found the wheel lock key and broken the lugs another gent arrives and tell me to let him do it as I was in my white work shirt and he was already dirty. Short work of it and we are off while the elderly lady awaits the arrival of Johnny Law.

  34. OK. So I'm the one who set this guy up. I'm sure I will get some smart a$$ comments but this big setup was for not sitting very far away and being at a seated position right in front. I made a custom center with twin eminence 15's, 6.5" BC driver and a horn tweeter. Eminence 3 way crossover. The size of the center is to match and be between the two KPT 684's laying down. He loved this center channel and put all the electronics on top of the speakers. Sitting 8 feet away in a recliner was an absolute destroyer. The Xii's and the K402 are not for sale....so don't ask.

  37. The vast majority, in fact almost all center speakers, are designed for your situation. While it may be ideal to have matching L-C-Rs all at ear level height, that is ideal and in no way the only good sounding setup. Most people have a center that sits just below their screen no matter what height that is, and they point them upwards a bit so the tweeter is pointing at ear height at the listening positions. On the floor is definitely not ideal for a typical center speaker (horizontal M-T-M designs). Many people put them on stands. They can also go above the TV and with good results, it all depends upon the room and setup (how high the tv is and such). But even on the floor I think you'll like it better than no center. Whichever puts the center closer to ear height (above or below) is where it should be put. You can experiment and try both. In a setup where almost all you will do is watch movies and shows, I can't stress enough how important I think it is, but I am one person with one opinion no more valuable than any of the others.

  41. In complete agreement with wdecho. Call A, despite its inherent inefficiency and heat is, to me, the best of the best. I must qualify that it just happens to be my personal preference. If you can just enjoy the sound you have, if you do enjoy it, might it be worth perhaps allowing the numbers to be what they are? But by all means, experiment with the many options available. Maybe you will find something that satisfies all priorities. I have a single-ended OTL amplifier that runs blisteringly hot -- quite literally, yet is entirely within proper working voltage and current parameters as far as its component parts are concerned -- and designed by a highly regarded audio EE, whose work I have followed since before he even developed his kit offerings. I have many amplifiers, both which I've built and not, and this hot-tempered little thing, sonically, is an absolute gem. edit: "Call A" (second sentence)??? Not sure what that is erik; I think you probably meant to write "Class A"

  43. Closing the barn doors after the cows are gone. That describes my efforts to preserve what's left of my hearing. I should have plumbed this knowledge base for opinions, but it was easy to get these from Amazon. For $15, they're better than nothing to protect my hearing from the noise of the router, saws, etc, as I build speakers. As I've said before, listening to 4 Speakerlab SKhorns blasting More Than A Feeling at full SPL during my mobile DJ biz in the 70s with only a pair of Sennheiser HD 424s for protection had a bad effect on my high frequency hearing.

  46. .........and here, some photos with the pair, WITH grills, and the KH as a backdrop ........grills removed......... I bought these SIGHT UNSEEN/HEARD.... I had nothing to go by except the really nice video presentation of the RP series release by Mark Casavant and his associates at Klipsch AND the many youTube reviews and demos... So, now, with a brand new woody 'aroma' sensed here in Music Hall, and after HOURS of tweaking their placement, they really sound wonderful.... The bass is as described, the highs via the new Tractix tweeter horn are smooth. The sound stage and stereo imaging is wider and fuller then the Klipschorns via direct, real time AB comparo... If anyone has questions concerning them, they can send me a private message and I will be sure to answer... OK, thats it for now, thanks taking in the little 'tour'.... Good times
