  1. Listening to these for like 10 minutes. I've had Rp-280's and Heresy's. These are a grand slam. Turned the sub off. My addiction is over. These are the best sounding speakers I've ever heard. Done buying. And I still have a Parasound coming.... On to retirement.

  3. Hey guys and gals! So, I'm fairly new into the home theatre game. Recently, klipsch had a 50% off sale on their r26f towers (i know not the best, but a bargain nonetheless) so I snagged two of those and a 10"sw. I also have a Sony strdh770 7.2 receiver. Now, my question is... will an rp-440c be a good bang-for-buck (literally) option for a center, as I just ordered one off Amazon, and will the receiver be able to cope with the power. I've read multiple threads about wattage and most say contradicting things and I just ended up confusing myself to be honest.. I also wanted to know about speaker settings, like large vs small... which Hz to use etc.. etc.. Let me know your thoughts on this setup, thanks!

  4. The 2 most important speakers in a HT are the center channel and the sub. They can make or break your HT experience. Yes, a sub will make a difference as right now there's a whole channel dedicated to LFE that you're missing. Your sub does not need to be left on 24/7 and doesn't necessarily have to brand match the rest of your speakers. Normally the sub is used any time you're using your other speakers, more so because your mains are bookshelf's.

  5. If you're happy with it, that should be enough. IMHO! Before dropping money on another amp, how is your listening environment? Room acoustics have a big effect on your system. I thought my system wasn't "loud" enough either. I have a Pioneer Elite receiver. I did some research and asked around here and after some recommendations, I set up a few panels to catch my first reflections, ran MCAAC again and the difference was like night and day. I just added some felt pads under my center and mains, I have tile floors and the center sits on a mahogany table, and while the audio didn't get any clearer this time, I am hearing so much more detail than even before. I experimented with a few scenes from the Transformers movies and they sound like different movies now. Not trying to talk you out of buying an amp. if that's what you want. I get it, a man has to have his toys, but if money might be a concern, there are cheaper alternatives.

  7. Welcome to the forum! I had a similar starting setup. AVR is plenty strong, Klispch doesn't need much. Those numbers are just the rated wattage i.e. what they are capable of 440C is a great center, much better than the R25C that would have matched the 26fs. If it's not a big price bump, I would grab a 450C personally, but would be very happy with a 440C also. With a sub the fronts should almost always be set to small, and then that let's the sub handle everything from the crossover down. The crossover can be set to a lot of different Hz but I think you will find -- listening -- that either 80 or 100hz will be best, possibly even 120hz. Some people, especially friends i know that love rock music, will run their fronts LARGE (full range) and the sub. There's a choice on the menu for this. WIth one sub there is a possibility you will like this better. Setting up a sub is very different if you set the fronts to large or small. Where you place it, how high to set the gain, and even the sub crossover are different Listen, enjoy, and your ears are the ultimate judge. Enjoy the speakers.

  10. Chad warned me the finish was going to be lighter than my cherry Heresy. He told me I could order them in the same finish as the Heresy for an up charge and a longer wait. I decided not to wait. The picture is lighter than it is in person. I'm still liking 'em. Doesn't have as deep of an orange tint. Time to plug them up.....

  15. AD, you would definitely benefit from a sub in your system. Keep an eye on the Frys.com daily deals. They regularly run the R-12SW twelve inch powered sub for $197 and it ships free. It was on sale earlier this week. For under $200 that sub would be hard to beat. Congrats on your system! Tim

  21. Zach, I think I see what you are thinking. You want to take the speaker wires from both the L and R and connect them to a single speaker trying to turn 25 wpc stereo into 50 wpc mono. With your particular amp, the answer is "no," it doesn't work that way. The only way you can bridge your amp is if your manual specifically tells you that you can and gives you instructions on how to do that.

  22. You typically use the positive of one channel and the negative of the other but a lot of amps require you to toggle a "Bridge" Switch on the back of the amp. If you look at teaman's Emotiva XPA-2, you will see what I mean.

  23. INMHO get a nice set of used forte II for around 400-600 depending on location and condition, then do the same mods you did to your Quartets plus titanium diaphragms in the squawkers, I think you will be more than happy with the results. Best regards, John

  30. I had H Monos - twice. Nice amps, quiet as promised. But as in any case only as quiet as the associated preamp. Now this is my opinion only but I have found with nearly every push/pull or Ultralinear tube design I have owned and it has been several, I found no advantage for tubes vs. a very high quality SS amp. Which is why I owned the Monos twice and another tube amp spoken around these parts, twice. But please - my opinion only -

  32. I don't know if it would be practical or not but in the past, I've gone to a UPS store, handed them what I wanted shipped and let them get the buyers credit card info over the phone while I was in the store. They wrapped, packed, insured and sent. All I had to do was get it to the store.

  36. Cool don't upgrade for that price difference, the 440C will be awesome. Crossover just means....where do the speakers trade off duties with each other? When does the subwoofer stop playing and give up the job to the main speakers? 120hz. The room is the limiting factor in almost every home setup, the room makes the speakers sound really bad, unless care is taken. Lots of people try and upgrade their speakers because their rooms sound bad. The subwoofer is free to roam around the room and make the low end sound as good as possible in a given room. So placing the sub is really a matter of where it sounds best (hopefully, assuming you have flexibility). A test tone should sound consistent without a lot of swings up and down in volume...in that main seat, and if you're lucky, in the seats left and right too. THAT is the right spot for the sub. So now the sub is placed. How do you know where to cross that sub over with the mains? Well, it should be where it sounds best! So, set it to 80hz, play a test tone, see if it sounds consistent. Try 100hz. Then try music you know. "best" is usually "consistent" in the most basic setup terms (imo). Set the fronts to small, the subwoofer crossover frequency knob on the back all the way up to max (so the AVR controls it), and experiment. It's fun and cool to find better spots for the front speakers and the subwoofer. The sub is really key, find that spot and you'll be in HT heaven.

  37. Welcome to the forum. I think @DizRotus is correct as later this evening you should get more feedback from the more knowledgeable HT folks. For me, I have an RF3 based system with the Yamaha receiver subwoofer crossover set to 50 Hz and the speakers set to small. I recommend 2 subwoofers, learned that on this forum, or more and found this to sound good with movies and music. With 2 subwoofers you don't have just one that has to work overtime especially during movie effects. I am not sure about your question on rp-440c's as I have not heard them. Good luck and glad you are here.

  45. The subwoofer wars continue. It is nice to own such beast but, we have to always remember what the human ear can take. The Bossobass Raptor system(dual) is a more home theater friendly system for that kinda money.
