  13. I've been working on these for so long lol... I made minor changes to the original Brook schematic build. I did a more modern ground scheme and used shielded cable for input and feedback. The orginal chassis was pretty small and as this was my second scratch build I made them much bigger so I could have room to work around. The parts are much higher quality than the original brooks as they used fairly crappy components back then. I am going to finsih the bottom plate to match the top. I had some gremlins on first power up but no smoke pops or bangs just horrible noise out of speakers lol.. My friend Chris helped me tweek the feedback and all was well with the world. One more once over and check up and they go to the big speakers. These are Push Pull 2A3's so after these we are going back to SET. Lessons learned: Use real hardwood not plywood. Don't wrap metal chassis in wood. Don't trust Sams Photofact. Wear pants while soldering. Wear pants!

  18. Have lived in a one horse town then another one came... Thanks for the hammer tip! Now where is the scales... LF has a hand grinder mill but, it looks a little rusty though. Has a drawer underneath to catch the grounds. Guess it may have been a coffee grinder. She bought it cause it was vintage.

  19. I'm often shocked at how poorly people pack things that are heavy or bulky, or anything at all. Even companies are guilty of this. Amazon for example - I ordered brake rotors big ones, heavy. They came packed in thin wall cardboard box, thrown into a larger thin wall box with a 2 or 3 air pocket thingies. One of the rotors was ok but the other one had a major impact/ding in the rotor. So I RMA'd it, got the refund and re-ordered. Thankfully the replacement survived the trip.

  22. the difference between that farm and all of the rest is that the feds are running the one in Mississippi. Ambulance was idling around here at 2:30AM. I was up... after a "nap". Someone must have been having a problem. I dinna see where they went. Hope it wasn't a friend. I about said "Someone I know" ... that would be most everyone Time to grind beans. And wake then wife. I do not know how the grinder doesn't. I have heard quieter garbage disposals.

  30. .... when I went to pick up my car, I was noticing the new "farms" down in the valley. Lot of big greenhouses. I know there is at least 5 acres legally planted. All w/i 3 miles of a BorderPatrol/Customs installation on I-19. Curious to see how this is going to play out. if they are let to grow ... I suppose the feds will allow the product to be moved to the dispensaries ???

  35. I feel sick for Texas. They were up by 14, lost it in OT. +++ Sunday will feature the West Virginia State Championship, WVU vs Marshall. Marshall has the #1 shot blocker in the country, WVU has the #2 shot blocker, along with Jevon Carter who is #1 in steals.

  38. The fact is the Recordings and the whole Recording Process is not neutral and has no consistent standards so unless you have some method of compensating to some degree for this you are missing a good opportunity for a higher quality of reproduction from your system. The debate isn’t if we need Tone Controls it’s about what kind of flexibility will serve our individual needs the best depending on the quality level of compensation our individual goals might be. miketn

  44. I've always liked Zeppelin but as I've grown older I actually appreciate them more. They are a lot like The Clash in my book. Always changing and trying different things. You can hear them grow as a band from one album to the next. I and II for all the hype are not my personal favorites. You are right that Presence is a hidden gem. I get a kick every time a see a kid under 25 with a Swan Song T-shirt on. I seriously doubt you will see a 20-something 40 years from now with an Arcade Fire, Maroon 5, <insert band here> shirt on. Maybe Foo Fighters, but I doubt that. Different time I know as rock was pretty young. Still I feel that Zeppelin has aged better than even the Beatles or the Stones. They sound dated to me. Zeppelin sounds timeless....and I was a die-hard stones fan from 12 to 40. I think history will be better to Led Zeppelin than Rolling Stone was in the day. Bowie has a timeless catalog as well....but save that for a different discussion. As for Aerosmith. Always loved them. The old drugged up days more so then once they got clean and discovered making videos. Saw a recent concert on TV. They still sound decent but looking like they have exceeded their Best Before Date.

  45. This place is falling to pieces. I could live without LZ I or II but I choose not to. If you can't at least like III, IV, Presence, HoH, PG you better have your head checked. Dyer Maker and The Ocean should be mandatory listening for anyone with Klipsch speakers every 2-3 months at a minimum.

  48. Some time back I put together the beginning of a music genre digraph based on Wikipedia sources (which is admittedly western music focused to date): The follow-on portion of the chart after 1980s is extremely difficult to chart in the same format due to the explosion of "micro-genres" that center on the input genres shown by the lead lines extending to the right of this chart. Note that the genres shown that still live on today aren't really indicated as such in this chart. I've noticed that the users posting on this forum tend to gather readily for chats on hi-fi hardware (and other subjects not related to audio), but when the subject turns to music, all that I see in the way of sustained discussions is the Right This Minute thread(s). You have to go over to the Steve Hoffman forum or perhaps some of the other big forums (AudioKarma, AudioCircle, AVS, etc.) before people consistently talk about the music that they listen to. The type of loudspeakers that Klipsch produces would tend to favor those that like music genres with greater dynamic range including: percussion "audiophile" recordings (which tend to be more avant-garde in terms of its musical genres) acoustic guitar (like classical, flamenco, and its modern offshoots) big band (including modern equivalents) world music (like traditional Indian music...sitar, etc.) acoustic jazz certain classical subgenres (like percussion and 20th-century neoclassicism) These genres of music are the ones that consistently show off the real dynamic capabilities of Klipsch loudspeakers. When people own loudspeakers that have trouble reproducing those genres, I find that they they tend to shy away from owning and listening to these genres of music. Chris
